We offer tailored groups for students with shared experiences, including young carers, care experienced students, young parents and asylum seekers. These provide a safe, supportive space to connect, share and get practical help.

Confidential support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week via text, phone or video call. Whatever challenges you may be facing, help is always close at hand. During term time, students can also access face-toface support from our counsellor.

Our learning support team works closely with teachers, welfare staff and other specialists to make sure you are fully supported. UNDERSTANDING COURSE LEVELS We offer a wide range of qualifications to suit different interests, abilities and career goals. Our admissions team is here to guide you, helping you choose the right course combination based on your interests, career ambitions and predicted GCSE results. A LEVELS

NEW FOR 2027!

A levels are ideal if you enjoy academic study and want to keep your options open, usually studying three subjects over two years, with a focus on exams at the end.

V Levels are new vocational qualifications, equivalent to one A Level, combining academic study with practical, careerfocused training. They support progression to university, employment or apprenticeships.

T LEVELS T Levels combine classroom learning with industry experience, giving you practical skills and knowledge aligned to real careers, and are equivalent to three A Levels.

Richard Taunton Sixth Form College is at the forefront of these new qualifications, offering V Levels in Accounting and Finance.

VOCATIONAL COURSES Vocational courses, such as BTEC or City & Guilds, focus on practical, hands-on learning, with a mix of coursework and assessment. They are highly valued by employers and accepted by many universities.

ENRICHMENT Enrichment is an important part of your study programme and you will take part in at least one activity. It is a great way to build new skills, gain experience and meet people who share your interests, all while boosting your confidence both in and out of the classroom. There is something for everyone. You might choose to stay active through activities such as football, badminton or fitness sessions. You can also explore personal development opportunities like nature club, politics discussions, young entrepreneurs or learning sign language. Creative options such as art, music or DJ club provide a chance to express yourself and support your wellbeing.

You can also follow your own interests through activities like esports, programming, mythos & monsters or even starting your own club. Our focus is always on your future, helping you move confidently towards your ambitions. Our expert careers team provides impartial advice and guidance through one-to-one sessions, workshops, tutor activities and dedicated progression events, helping you explore the wide range of options available.

Supported Internships are designed for students aged 16–24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who want to take the next step towards paid employment but may need extra support to get there.

Work experience is built into your programme, giving you valuable opportunities such as placements, industry projects, employer visits and World of Work Week. These experiences help you develop key skills, build confidence and gain insight into your chosen career.

This one-year programme is built around real workplace experience. You will spend most of your time in a job placement, gaining practical, hands-on skills in a role that matches your interests. Alongside this, you will attend college to develop important skills such as English, maths and employability.

Before you apply, make sure you do some research into the types of courses that are out there, and which ones could be right for you. Look through college prospectuses, course information on the website, and attend open events to work out the best route for you after school.

Once you’ve completed each step, submit your application to us. We’ll let you know when we’ve safely received it with an acknowledgement email.

Offers will be sent to you via the email address you have provided and by post. The offer will be conditional, based on your predicted GCSE grades.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY WELCOME MEETING? Welcome meetings are friendly one-on-one chats to make sure the courses you’ve chosen are a good fit for you. We’ll get to know you better, and you’ll have a chance to ask any questions you have. We’ll also give you advice and guidance about the best path for your future. You don’t have to come alone. If you’d feel more comfortable bringing someone with you, that’s totally okay. Applicants are expected to attend a Welcome Meeting in order to be considered for a place at Richard Taunton and to be invited to enrol with us in August.

TRAVEL TO US Richard Taunton Sixth Form College is well connected by several local bus routes and offers on-site parking for cars, mopeds and bicycles, making travel to and from college straightforward. TRAVEL BY BUS There is an extensive network of bus routes covering the wide area surrounding Richard Taunton. Bluestar is our college bus provider. We have two routes – 505 and 509 – and the timetables are shown on our website. Students who use these services can access the rest of the Bluestar network during term times. This means if you start later or finish

earlier than the 505 and 509 departure times you can arrive at or leave college at a more appropriate time. The 19s Bluestar service stops and departs just outside college. It is ideal as a connecting service for many students. For up-to-date bus pass costs, payable in two instalments, please see our website.
