The Role of a Pilot The Role of a Pilot
A ____________ is a person who flies an airplane or helicopter. Pilots are important because they help bring people and goods to different places. It is harder to fly a plane than to ____________ a car. Pilots must be smart and ____________. They have to be able to make the ____________ decisions in hard situations. This is why pilots go through lots of training before they are allowed to fly on their own.
One of the first things a pilot learns is how to prepare for a flight. Before takeoff, pilots check each ____________ on the plane to make sure everything is safe. They inspect the airplane to make sure it is the right ____________ for the job. A plane that is too small may not be able to carry enough people or luggage, while a plane that is too large could be difficult to fly.
During a flight, pilots use their ____________ to watch for any dangers in the sky.
They also need to pay attention to the weather and other planes. It’s important for pilots to be ____________ when they fly the plane. In the cockpit, pilots must focus on their work, no matter how ____________ the buildings and cars below seem. Pilots also need to be able to handle surprises. For example, if a pilot is flying over a forest and spots a ____________ in the wild below, they must stay focused. If something goes wrong ____________ they are flying, they must stay calm and think quickly. If you have ever ____________ flying a plane, you would know that it is no easy thing.
Before the ____________ at their destination, pilots announce the weather and the time in the place where they will be landing. Pilots who have time between flights sometimes like to explore the area, whether it’s a new city or the countryside. This is a good ____________ to help them relax before their next flight. However, they need to make sure to rest before flying again. A long ____________ is not a good choice for a pilot who will be flying soon. Pilots have an important job in making sure flights are safe and smooth.
