WELCOME TO LIFE WITH LUCAS!
Church. For many of us, it’s a friendly word. We hear it and warm images fill our minds – the clinking of cups of tea with vintage friends, profound experiences of worship or hugs that helped to dry our tears. Others find church frustrating. It reeks of sameness. Some are just irritated by the whole thing; the music is too loud (or more ancient than modern), the minister preaches for too long (surely you can be deep in five minutes) and sometimes it all seems irrelevant. Others are simply exhausted by church. For them, it means the breathless Sunday dash, the mad rush from Sunday school class to Communion service to yet another event on Sunday night – not exactly a day of rest. More seriously, some have been so badly wounded by their church experience, they fear ever darkening the doors of a local congregation again. Church. We love it, sometimes we loathe it, and according to the Bible, we can’t do without it. Over the next few months, we’ll consider what church is really supposed to be – according to the one whose opinion really counts – Jesus. We’ll see He is utterly committed to the nurture and care of His people. And, as His words are found in the book of Revelation, we’ll be reminded that His love for and commitment to His people are eternal: the future is bright and beautiful. May we hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Also, in this edition look out for some video footage filmed during our recent visit to Turkey - we can see the sites as well as learn about them! PAUSE AND TALK TO GOD Take a moment to focus on God and ask Him to speak to you as you read and reflect on His word. READ GOD’S WORD Read the daily passage from your Bible. Don’t be tempted just to skip this part. It’s important: who knows how the Holy Spirit might speak to you as you read the actual text?
