Personal Growth & Wellness For many, January brings a renewed sense of excitement for the future. The glittering promise of a new year invites changes and offers fresh opportunities for those seeking to better themselves. Balancing physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional vitality can often feel overwhelming, but this time of year offers a brief pause, offering a chance to breathe and reflect. It provides an opportunity for us to set meaningful goals in the areas of our lives we wish to nurture. This month, we invite our readers to seize the novelty of the new year by considering how health and wellness shape their daily lives. How do you take steps to support your body? In this issue, you’ll find feature articles that inspire reflection on these questions and highlight some of North Orange County’s best health-focused businesses. Read about Skin Perfect Medical Aesthetics, a Brea medical spa that can help rekindle your love for your body. Or The Aesthetic Immersion, which provides classes for doctors and PAs to acquire certifications in surgical injections and similar skills. Engaging with your community is one of the most effective ways to support physical and mental well-being. Social connection boosts your mood, encourages activity, and helps you discover new skills. Fortunately for Yorba Linda residents, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of volunteer programs, social gatherings, and classes designed to bring people together and enrich daily life. The city’s year-round calendar includes monthly ice cream birthday celebrations, weekday coffee gatherings, and bi-monthly Monday movie matinees—all created to inspire connection and support active, healthy living. A highlight each year is the Wellness Expo for adults aged 50 and older, featuring health and wellness vendors, medical screenings, seminars, food, and live demonstrations that celebrate senior vitality. Residents looking to stay active can participate in bi-weekly Longevity Stick balance sessions or enjoy both introductory and advanced line dancing. The quarterly Senior Bulletin lists
all programs, services, and events in one place, making it easy for seniors to explore new interests, stay fit, and meet new people. Yorba Linda also offers several volunteer opportunities for all ages. The Clean Parks Campaign invites community members to help maintain the city’s 147 acres of parks, trails, and public spaces. Additionally, the city partners with the Orange County Aging Services Collaborative, supporting programs that enhance the aging experience. Volunteering not only benefits the community—it also provides a renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment. Neighboring cities share this commitment to engagement. Villa Park’s Community Services Foundation will host a spring 5K and its annual “Spring Into Health” Fair, featuring demonstrations, vendors, and wellness activities. Similar opportunities are available in Anaheim Hills, Placentia, and Brea. Whether you join a class, volunteer, or attend an event, participating in community programs boosts well-being—for both you and your city. Explore more at www.yorbalindaca.gov.

HOPE AND HEALING FROM WITHIN: REVIVEWELLNESS365 Behind every meaningful wellness movement lies a story of perseverance and purpose. For the founder of teleconsulting practice ReviveWellness365, the journey toward holistic healing began in the depths of personal and family health challenges—experiences that would ultimately reshape her understanding of health. Battling conditions conventional medicine couldn’t resolve inspired her to pioneer functional strategies that target root causes like inflammation, gut health, hormones, and toxins. Determined to offer new hope to patients suffering from unresolved “mystery” illnesses, she became a Certified Functional and Nutritional Medical Practitioner (CFNMP) through the American Academy of Functional Health, enabling a holistic, evidence-based program that delivers personalized healing and vitality. “Designed to complement—not replace—existing healthcare, it integrates seamlessly by sharing detailed lab reports and progress summaries, coordinating supplement and lifestyle recommendations with current treatments, and fostering open communication with primary doctors and specialists to enhance overall outcomes.” At the heart of the practice is a passion for empowering seniors to embrace a healthier path forward—even in a virtual setting.
“At ReviveWellness365, we specialize in guiding seniors toward sustainable health improvements through gentle, achievable actions tailored to their unique needs—particularly in our fully virtual telehealth format, which eliminates travel barriers and fits seamlessly into busy or homebound lifestyles.” Unlike other generic wellness apps, ReviveWellness365 offers tools that are truly unique. “ReviveWellness365 delivers 100% virtual, deeply personalized care from a licensed medical professional who treats you as an individual, not a data point. While most digital health tools offer pre-recorded videos, automated meal plans, or chatbots, we provide live, oneon-one teleconsulting with unlimited phone and email access during business hours, meaning you’re never left waiting days for answers.”
Personalized programs include flexible session frequencies, such as biweekly or monthly one-on-one virtual consultations, ensuring progress feels feasible. “Between sessions, we provide unlimited access via email and phone calls during normal business hours, so support is always just a message away, allowing for quick adjustments or encouragement as needed. We focus on holistic, root-cause strategies, introducing small lifestyle shifts alongside targeted dietary modifications, such as anti-inflammatory meal ideas or gut-supporting foods, to combat underlying chronic issues like inflammation, pain, or fatigue without disrupting daily routines. This one-on-one care empowers seniors to build confidence and momentum at their own pace, fostering longterm vitality and joy.” CONTINUED >

focus from symptom suppression to healing the underlying drivers of chronic illness— allowing the body to restore its natural balance and resilience. We guide clients in making gradual, sustainable changes: optimizing nutrition with anti-inf lammatory, blood-sugar-stabilizing meals; rebuilding gut integrity with targeted protocols; balancing hormones naturally; reducing environmental stressors; and enhancing sleep, movement, and emotional wellness.” Client safety and seamless integration with their existing medical care are the foundation of every recommendation. “The process begins when you complete our comprehensive Functional Health Survey. This information is thoroughly analyzed by your licensed Certified Functional and Nutritional Medical Practitioner (CFNMP) prior to your initial evaluation session. During a dedicated one-on-one virtual consultation—we review your survey, discuss your goals, and present a clear, personalized roadmap. Every recommendation is cross-checked against your medications and conditions to avoid interactions or contraindications. Your existing care remains the anchor, while our functional strategies enhance—not interfere with—it, giving you confidence that every step forward is both effective and medically sound.”
Try these simple, everyday health tips to make a big difference. Start with one or two to build momentum without overwhelm: • Hydrate Mindfully: Upon waking, drink 16–20 oz of warm lemon water (squeeze half a lemon into filtered water.) This gently kickstarts digestion, supports detoxification, and combats overnight dehydration— setting a hydrated tone for the day. • Breathe Deeply for 2 Minutes: Practice simple box breathing (inhale 4 counts, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4) anytime stress creeps in. It calms the nervous system, reduces cortisol, and improves oxygen flow, helping with inflammation and mood. • Move Gently for 10 Minutes: Take a slow walk outdoors or do seated stretches. Natural sunlight boosts vitamin D and serotonin, while light movement enhances circulation, eases joint stiffness, and stabilizes blood sugar—no gym required. • Eat One Anti-Inflammatory Food: Add a handful of berries, a sprinkle of turmeric (withblack pepper for absorption), or leafy greens to any meal to combat chronic inflammation
at the root, supporting gut health and energy without drastic diet changes. • Wind Down with Gratitude: Before bed, jot down three things you’re thankful for. This shifts the mind from stress to positivity, improving sleep quality and hormonal balance overnight. “These small steps create compounding benefits, often reducing fatigue, pain, and brain fog over time. Consistency beats perfection!” ReviveWellness365’s founder finds her greatest fulfillment in helping clients achieve lasting change and renewed well-being. “What I enjoy most is witnessing the quiet transformation that happens when someone realizes their body can heal from within, no matter their age. At ReviveWellness365, we don’t limit our care to seniors; we support all ages battling chronic illness, using the same root-cause, personalized functional medicine approach to help everyone—from 25 to 85—feel vibrant, capable, and truly alive again.” To reinforce your healthy habits at home, check out www.revivewellness365.com.

Across Southern California, advancements in aesthetic medicine are improving individuals’ lives from the inside out—empowering people to embrace confidence at every age and stage of life. For Lori J. Robertson, MSN, FNP-C of Skin Perfect Medical in Brea, the healthcare field has always been driven by one core principle: "My passion is helping others." This simple–but profound–internal motivation has guided her through a diverse and accomplished career, from the high-stakes environments of the ICU and ER to Family Practice. More recently–for the last 18 years, to be exact–her passion and determination have supported her innovative work in the specialized field of Medical Aesthetics. Today, that passion is the driving force behind the patient-first philosophy at Skin Perfect Medical, where meeting clients’ beauty and well-being needs are prioritized in a serene, professional environment. An array of services is available at Skin Perfect Medical, ranging from body sculpting, laser treatments, dermal fillers and injectables to skincare products, facial treatments, feminine rejuvenation, microneedling, ultrasound treatments, radiofrequency treatments, and more. Anti-aging rejuvenation, hair restoration, and treatments for men are also offered at this multi-faceted facility. Whatever your aesthetic goals may be, Skin Perfect Medical offers a customized solution—powered by advanced technology and delivered with unmatched expertise.
THE ART AND SCIENCE OF NATURAL RESULTS
Skin Perfect Medical, a family of seven clinics across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Orange counties, operates on a unique and sophisticated understanding of aesthetics. "We specialize in Medical Aesthetics, which is the assessment of innate facial anatomical structure combined with age-related changes," Robertson explains. Their targeted approach goes deeper than just treating symptoms. "We understand the 'why' of the aging and facial balancing process." This deep understanding allows the team to help patients look "natural and rested." The clinic achieves this by: CONTINUED >

• Restoring Skin Quality: Using lasers and other energy-based devices to remove sun damage, soften fine lines, and treat skin laxity. • Replacing Volume Loss: Employing collagen stimulators and soft tissue fillers to address volume loss from both the natural aging process and weight loss. At the heart of this technical expertise is a commitment to the individual. "Empathy and compassion are a priority, along with patient safety, which comes from provider knowledge and education," Robertson notes. "Providing a very personal approach to each patient's needs assures their happiness with any outcomes." This philosophy is the foundation of the Skin Perfect team's mission: to provide an unparalleled client experience, ensuring every individual feels heard, valued, and comfortable from the moment they walk in, while delivering safe and effective treatments to help people feel confident in their own skin.
AN EXPERT'S APPROACH TO INNOVATION
What truly sets Robertson apart is her dedication to the science behind the art. An internationally recognized educator, she has shared her expertise with providers around the world. "Medical Aesthetics is my passion," she says. "I am known worldwide for my focus on patient safety, knowledge of anatomy, and natural, refreshed outcomes." This commitment to excellence means staying at the forefront of technology. Robertson is particularly excited about the new treatments now offered at the clinic. “We offer the latest radio frequency microneedling technology in skin tightening and pore/acne scar reduction," she shares. "We also offer the latest technology for replacing age-related facial fat loss with your natural tissue!"
ADVICE FOR PROACTIVE SELF-CARE
When it comes to self-care, Robertson believes that confidence in one's appearance can be a powerful catalyst for achieving a sense of overall wellness. "What you do on the outside to increase your self-esteem and self-confidence translates into improved long-term self-care," she advises. "Pay attention to what you see in the mirror. Fix any issues related to the aging process to help you feel younger and more rested." She follows this advice with a crucial warning. "This needs to be performed by providers who know the anatomy of facial aging very well for a natural and safe outcome." It is this combination of advanced technology and an expertlevel focus on safety that defines her practice. And for Robertson, the work provides a daily reminder of her original calling. "Seeing the smile on our patients' faces," she says, "and knowing that they feel better about themselves is the greatest reward we could ask for!" Southern California is renowned for its vibrant health and wellness landscape. Of all the options available to patients, one institution stands apart from the crowd, thanks to a unique fusion of clinical excellence and educational pursuits. Ketchum Health is the clinical teaching facility of Marshall B. Ketchum University and is closely connected to the educational programs at the school. The Medical Clinic is part of the Ketchum Health family. Its leaders, Daniel L. May, MD, and Prana Luisa Yenkosky, MMS, PA-C, share an inside look at the full spectrum of services and innovations happening at the Medical Clinic.
DANIEL L. MAY, MD, MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND PROVIDER
The School of Physician Assistant Studies mission is ‘to educate individuals to become compassionate physician assistants who deliver the highest quality healthcare in a collaborative environment, serve diverse communities, work to eliminate health disparities and improve overall health outcomes while advancing the PA profession. “Our mission at the clinic is an extension of that mission,” he says.
As both a provider of essential medical services and a cutting-edge teaching facility, the Ketchum Health Medical Clinic serves as a vital cornerstone of the community. “Since we are educating students to become excellent providers, we must continue to stay abreast of the latest developments in medicine, and this translates into our patients getting the most up-to-date, evidence-based care,” explains Dr. May. To best meet their patients’ needs, The Medical Clinic offers a wide range of services. “As a full-service Family Practice, we see patients of all ages and medical conditions. We provide routine health maintenance examinations at all ages, including well-child care, sports physicals, routine gynecological exams, and annual physicals for all ages. We do several office procedures such as skin biopsies and lesion removals, vasectomies, and toenail removals. We have walk-in hours twice a week in the morning for patients who need to be seen before the next scheduled appointment is available.” At Ketchum Health Medical Clinic, exceptional patient care isn’t a strategy—it’s a core value that shapes their everyday practices. “I have always placed patients’ needs at the highest priority, and we strive to treat all patients like we would our own family. Being part of a university allows us to focus on patient care rather than simply making a profit.” Another advantage of Ketchum’s Medical Clinic model is the hands-on training offered to students. “We strive to treat each patient as we would our own family members, making sure they get the proper diagnosis and treatment while getting support and help navigating the challenges of our often-complicated medical system.”
PRANA LUISA YENKOSKY, MMS, PA-C (CLINIC DIRECTOR AND PROVIDER)
“Our students gain experience by being able to interview and examine patients, and then the patients are always seen by the Physician or Physician Assistant as well, ensuring the most appropriate plan of care.” By encouraging preventative care, the clinic empowers patients of all ages and walks of life. “In our adult patient population, we treat a lot of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. We do a lot of dermatology, including diagnosing and removing suspicious lesions, either surgically or using liquid nitrogen to destroy warts or keratoses.” Dr. May also helped develop MBKU’s Physician Assistant program from its inception. He remains involved in their didactic education and mentors students in a clinical setting as well. “It is our goal to teach the student to care for the whole patient, providing the most up-to-date medical treatments while still learning to care for the emotional needs of each person as well.” To Dr. May and his team, providing compassionate patient care will remain an enduring priority.

PA Prana Luisa Yenkosky sees the bond between the university and clinic as a partnership cemented in shared values and pioneering work in healthcare. “The clinic’s mission is to be a trusted, compassionate medical clinic dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered healthcare delivered with kindness and respect to every individual served,” she says. When it comes to the clinic’s mission, the connection is clear. “Our mission connects to the educational programs of MBKU, as MBKU’s mission is to educate caring, inspired health care professionals who are prepared to deliver collaborative, patient-centric health care in an interprofessional environment.” According to PA Yenkosky, Ketchum Health Medical Clinic’s unique model allows providers to stay up to date with the latest changes in the industry. “This is important because not only are our students practicing and learning updated information to put into practice, but patients are receiving the best medical care using the latest updates in return,” she says.
“Many MBKU students who complete their rotations at the clinic stay in the community as medical providers or pharmacists once they graduate from their programs, and this is beneficial as some patients encounter them in their new careers and feel a sense of comfort as they have already had interactions with them, increasing trust, satisfaction, and patient-provider professional bond.” “My approach to patient care is that I view patients, not just as their medical concerns, but also as a whole. I listen to their medical problems with kindness and compassion while including them to be part of their medical care and treatment plans. As a certified Physician Assistant, I love patient interactions and knowing that I have achieved a professional bond with my patients, where they can feel safe with me and trust that I will do my best to assist their recovery.” She emphasizes the importance of teamwork in creating a positive environment for both staff and patients. “We foster collaboration between everyone by respecting each other and understanding that each role has its own expertise,” she says.
“Working together allows for a healthy work environment that is felt by patients, and it aids in making the patient’s experience at the clinic a positive one.” She highlights the crucial role of training future healthcare providers while always keeping patient well-being at the center. “The demand for healthcare education will most likely continue to grow, especially since technology keeps advancing. As providers, we need to keep up with medical technology, but we also need to train and remind our students that caring for the patient is at the heart of what we do, whether physically, mentally, or emotionally. Students are the future providers, and as their preceptors, it is our responsibility to guide them so they can be the best providers they can be for their patients.” Looking ahead, the clinic aims to expand its reach in the community and connect with more patients through new initiatives and outreach efforts. “In 2026, we are hopeful to continue to grow as a clinic and be able to provide care to additional community members, since we are working on accepting a new medical health plan. Being a clinic that belongs to a university provides us with additional opportunities to share information about the clinic and its services, such as attending community health fairs and events. We welcome everyone to contact us at (714) 463-7505 or meet us at any of the community events we participate in.” Visit https://ketchumhealth.org/medicalclinic to learn more.

THE A ESTHETIC IM MER SION

A new era in aesthetic medicine means redef ining education to empower more effective, artistic providers. ARTICLE BY LORI J. ROBERTSON MSN-FNP-C

Where exceptional patient care meets refined artistry, The Aesthetic Immersion is transforming the standard of medical aesthetic education—and raising the bar for the industry as a whole.
“We offer over 450 learning videos on our website [and] a 3-tier Mentorship program. Our mentees range anywhere from new injectors to seasoned medical providers with over 15 years of aesthetic experience.” BEYOND THE BASICS: HOW THE AESTHETIC IMMERSION IS REDEFINING MEDICAL AESTHETIC EDUCATION
In a rapidly evolving field, the quality of an aesthetic injector's education is the most critical factor in patient safety and results. Yet, for many years, the industry standard has often been "less than acceptable," notes the founder of The Aesthetic Immersion Training Academy. This gap between the complexity of aesthetic medicine and the superficiality of many training programs is what inspired a new approach moving forward. "I have always wanted to share what I have learned with other providers to lift them up on my shoulders to someday be better than me," the founder shares. This passion culminated in the launch of The Aesthetic Immersion in 2019, built on a clear mission: "We NEEDED
a comprehensive educational school to provide the best accredited medical aesthetic education possible."
A CURRICULUM BUILT ON COMPREHENSIVE, EVIDENCE-BASED LEARNING
The Aesthetic Immersion's curriculum is designed to go far beyond basic injection techniques. In fact, it is an entire ecosystem focused on creating safe, competent, and artistic medical care providers. The program specializes in a wide range of advanced topics, including: • Anatomical assessment • Facial aging processes • PDO Threads • Complication assessment and management • Advanced cannula use • Beginning through advanced aesthetic courses CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . This core learning is supported by a massive digital and personal support system. "We offer over 450 learning videos on our website [and] a 3-tier Mentorship program," the founder explains. This mentorship is a key feature, supporting providers who may not have access to a preceptorship in their own practices. "Our mentees range anywhere from new injectors to seasoned medical providers with over 15 years of aesthetic experience." Crucially, the curriculum isn’t static. "Our educational videos are updated and filmed as new research is published and verified in clinical practice, so our information is both evidence-based and relevant."
THE 1:1 FLIPPED CLASSROOM: BUILDING TRUE CONFIDENCE
To build lasting skills, the school employs a "flipped classroom" model. Students are first immersed in "4-12 hours of pre-class online didactic education." This comprehensive preparatory work covers the fundamentals of facial assessment, soft tissue fillers, wrinkle relaxers, PDO threadlifting, collagen stimulators, laser physics, and even the use of ultrasound in aesthetic medicine. Only after this foundational knowledge is established does the hands-on training begin. "Once the student has completed the online education, they are then allowed to sign up for 1:1 hands-on educational sessions with our world-class instructors," the founder states. "This provides a very detailed and student-focused session."
WHAT SETS THE AESTHETIC IMMERSION APART?
The difference is immediately apparent to providers who have trained elsewhere. "At every class, our students who have gone through other medical aesthetic programs tell us... 'I never learned all of this in my other classes,' 'they never told me WHY I was doing what I was doing,'" the founder recounts. This focus on the "WHY" is the program's core differentiator. The advice to prospective students is blunt: "Make sure a school teaches evidence-based, comprehensive information. If not, choose another school." This commitment to high-level, relevant information is maintained by the founder's own active role as an educator in both the US and Europe. "Those of us who teach must stay up to date on the latest research to be able to critically evaluate it... We then can share relevant information with other providers to help raise their level of knowledge."

“At every class, our students who have gone through other medical aesthetic programs tell us... ‘I never learned all of this in my other classes,’ ‘they never told me WHY I was doing what I was doing.’” the founder recounts. A DOSE OF REALITY: ADVICE FOR ASPIRING INJECTORS
For those considering a career in aesthetics, the school's founder offers a critical dose of reality. "If you want to get into aesthetic medicine, understand it is a specialty of its own. It takes years to be both safe and proficient. Do not expect to take a weekend class, open your own clinic, and know what you are doing. You won’t." The path, she advises, requires both patience and investment. "Find a preceptor, a mentor to work alongside, even for free, to learn everything you can... You are starting back at the bottom. You must be willing to pay for good training; it isn't free. Many providers spend 20-30K a year on aesthetic education."
Perhaps the most crucial advice is to build a strong medical foundation first. "Work in acute/primary care first!" Why? "Because in aesthetic medicine... We find many health issues that other primary care providers have missed. Without this background, these sometimes-life-threatening issues could be missed." It's a powerful reminder that this field is, first and foremost, all about medicine. "We need a holistic approach to our patients...this is still medical care, just focusing on aesthetics." The New Frontier of Health U N D E R S TA N D I N G T H E “WHY” BEHIND WELLNESS ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES AND PROVIDED like ferritin or SHBG—which binds testosterone and estrogen—are completely missed. AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. KYLE GILLETT
Why do so many people feel exhausted, foggy, or unwell, even when their medical tests insist everything is “fine”? Why are we prescribed quick fixes instead of being given real answers? Across modern medicine, a shift is happening. More patients are demanding real explanations, and more clinicians are rethinking what “healthcare” should actually mean. Leading that shift is Dr. Kyle Gillett, a dual board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine and an expert in metabolic, hormonal, and preventive health. Through his clinic, research, and The Gillett Health Podcast, he’s become a trusted voice for people seeking science-based, root-cause solutions rather than symptom-based band-aids. “Functional medicine is really ‘root cause medicine,’” Dr. Gillett often says. “It’s about asking why the problem exists and not just quieting the noise.” In this Q&A, Dr. Gillett breaks down the most common questions he hears from patients and offers simple, actionable guidance anyone can begin using today.
1. “WHY DO I FEEL AWFUL EVEN THOUGH MY LABS ARE ‘NORMAL’?”
Dr. Gillett: I like to say, “There is no such thing as ‘we’ve done everything.’” We can always dig deeper. Often, the labs ordered are the wrong type of assay, or important markers

2. “HOW DO I FIX MY ENERGY, BRAIN FOG, OR SLEEP WITHOUT 20 MEDICATIONS?”
Dr. Gillett: Start with a good, comprehensive lab panel to assess nutrients and hormones. Then build the foundation with sleep. My favorite tool is the 10/3/2/1/0 rule: • 10 hours before bed: No caffeine • 3 hours: Avoid large meals and alcohol • 2 hours: No vigorous exercise • 1 hour: No bright blue or white light • 0: No snoozing and no inconsistent sleep/wake times Aim for 7+ hours of high-quality sleep. When sleep improves, energy almost always follows.
3. “IS MY GUT ACTUALLY CAUSING ALL THESE OTHER PROBLEMS?”
Dr. Gillett: Gut health influences most major health issues, but it’s rarely the only problem. Diet is my second pillar of health for a reason. Exercise, sleep, and stress reduction all improve gut function too. Even simple tools like self-hypnotherapy apps can reduce gut-related symptoms.
4. “WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW, TODAY, TO START FEELING BETTER?”
Dr. Gillett: Focus on the pillars of health: diet, exercise, sleep, stress, sunlight, social connection, and spiritual

A FINAL WORD FROM DR. GILLETT
