Does your home need a minor or major spring cleaning? Are you thinking about renovation projects or looking to downsize or expand your home? “Home is where the heart is.” It’s a common phrase meaning that our homes are a central place in our lives—where we rest our heads, nourish our bodies, and make fond memories with loved ones. It’s the epicenter of our world, where we start and end each day. The best thing about your home is there's no other exactly like it. Sure, your neighbors’ houses may have a similar style or paint color. But the way you decorate each room and the memories you create to make it uniquely yours. This issue is about everything home. We have experts on Window Coverings, Interior Design, Home Remodeling, New Flooring, Pool & Backyard Rebuilding, Kitchen & Bath Remodels, Lighting & Electrical, and Home Fumigations. Yorba Linda Lifestyle | March 2021

BROOKER ASSOCIATES CONTRACTORS HAVE BROUGHT VALUE, FUNCTIONALITY, AND PURPOSE TO OUTDOOR SPACES FOR NEARLY 50 YEARS.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME WHEN YOU MAKE THE EXTRA TIME TO ENJOY IT. No matter how spacious your home felt two years ago it is likely to feel smaller now that home offices and schoolwork have spread out into every square foot of the house. After an entire year of squeezing the family (and extended family members) into the confines of existing rooms, homeowners are pushing their boundaries into the backyard with the luxury of pools and spas. While the pandemic keeps many people at home and springtime is just around the corner, there is increased interest in creating mini outdoor resorts, particularly with the installation or restoration of pools and spas, as they are some of the best forms of exercise and entertainment. The dry and mild California climate positively impacts how often people can use their yards, which makes it possible to spend more than 300 days per year in the great outdoors. “Many clients have expressed to us how they feel, for the first time, they will be using their backyards,” says owner Bill Brooker. “They feel their yards have value, functionality, and purpose beyond grass and trees.”

Looking forward to summer: restored pool and spa and new fire pit.

To w n e & Country Design SOFT AND DREAMY KITCHENS WITH A ‘STEAMY’ NEW APPLIANCE ARE TRENDING FOR THIS YEAR.

AFTER SPENDING THE LAST 25 YEARS IN THE DESIGN AND REMODELING BUSINESS, WE HAVE DEFINITELY EXPERIENCED PEAKS AND VALLEYS. While the beginning of the pandemic was definitely a difficult and uncertain time, as it still is for most businesses, we began to experience a definite uptick in the home improvement business. It took several months of people hunkering down in their home, discontinuing most travel and vacations, thinking they wanted to improve their surroundings given that, for the foreseeable future, they would be looking at it for a long time. They may have been putting it off for years. Initially, we faced challenges with product fulfillment, as many American factories were closed and not in production for several months. One obstacle to remodeling was that freight in transit was turned around and sent back to its origin since freight companies feared their employees might get stuck in a different state far from home. It took some time to get through this. Factories had to get approval from their Governors in order to get back to work,

the lowest maintenance possible, so the door styles are very simple. Manufacturers are meeting that demand with smooth or angled frames on beautifully crafted slab wood doors. The cabinetry we carry at Towne & Country Design is all made in the United States by artisans and craftsmen working in factories across the country. They offer hand-rubbed and stained applications that are baked into the pores of the wood, resulting in a butter-smooth finish that will last for decades without peeling or cracking. Countertops are almost always white or gray manufactured quartz with mild to moderate gray veining. For those who can afford natural quartzite, they choose the beautiful creamy undertone with light gold veining. Manufactured quartz and natural quartzite are very popular because they are non-porous surfaces that are a healthier choice for the home as they do not harbor bacteria. Finishes are no longer shiny; everything from faucets to cabinet hardware and appliances is coming in brushed or

matte finishes. Matte black and brushed gold are also trending for plumbing fixtures. One popular feature my clients seem to love and rave about after their kitchens are complete is the addition of the steam oven. This new appliance is replacing the microwave oven in many cases. People often say the food tastes so much better as it is much more succulent and retains nutritional value. I am often thanked for talking people into a second sink in the kitchen. This allows two people to work at one time, to make entertaining and family meals easier to prepare and clean up afterward. It prevents

What’s the best thing about being home this past year?

Brian: I got to sleep in, and spend more time doing things I can only do at home. Leia: I see my family more, and when we have breaks during the school day, I can chat with my mom or dad and share interesting notes about my day, or play games with my brother.

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

What is the most challenging part about being at home most of the time? Brian: I don’t get to see my friends in person, and there is limited space to pretend

play. I get bored not having enough room to have full fun.

What is the weirdest part about being in a pandemic?

Brian: The masks, and staying away from other people. It’s boring. Leia: Wearing a mask everywhere is weird. It can feel uncomfortable, and it’s

harder to talk to people because it’s difficult to hear what they’re saying.

What are you looking forward to when the pandemic is over? Brian: No more itchy masks, and I want to see my friends more. Leia: I’m looking forward to going back to in-person school, dance, and karate.
