New Play structure and updates starting in this month More upgrades are headed to Woodstock's Downtown Playground. The next phase adds a Moku-Yama Play Structure by Great Southern Recreation, built for climbing, perching, jumping, and hiding, plus 2,500 square feet of artificial turf, drainage work, and landscaping. On-site musical equipment will be relocated in coordination with Woodstock Arts. Construction is set to start mid- to late-September, wrapping up within two to four weeks. The playground sits at 809 Market St., next to Woodstock Arts.

Ray and Kerri fell in love without leaving downtown Woodstock It had been raining since the night before, and everyone standing along Wheeler Street knew it wasn't going to stop for long. Ray and Kerri walked out anyway. The sky held just long enough for Kerri to make it down the aisle. Then, right as the vows began, it opened up. Nobody moved. About a hundred guests stood there in the rain, soaked through, refusing to leave. So Ray and Kerri did the only thing that made sense. They waved everyone up onto the stage at Wheeler Street Amphitheater and kept going, surrounded now by nearly every person who mattered to them, packed shoulder to shoulder under the cover of the small downtown venue. More than one guest later said it was the best, most intimate and memorable wedding they had been part of, because of that moment, not despite it. It fit, somehow, because their whole relationship had been built on this same stretch of downtown Woodstock with the people who call it home. Ray and Kerri both quietly rebuilding a life they weren't expecting to share with anyone new. Ray had told himself he was ready to just live in the moment with his girls and leave it at that. Then came Pub Crawl 2024, a February night that started as nothing more than dinner with friends at Salt. Ray was there with his group. Kerri was a few tables over with hers. A mutual friend crossed the room, Ray turned to see who he was talking to, and that was it. They sat there looking at each other for what Ray still calls an uncomfortably long time, until Kerri finally cleared the seat next to her. Their first date landed on Valentine's Day, purely by accident. They had picked a Wednesday

that worked for both schedules, not realizing what the calendar said until they were standing outside a sushi spot with no open tables. They ended up at Truck and Tap instead, which Kerri insists was exactly where they were supposed to be all along. Walking home that night, back toward the condos, they were about to cross the railroad tracks near downtown. Ray still remembers Kerri stopping him right there to ask, only half joking, whether a loving kiss was even on the table before she'd let this go any further. It was. That crossing became their spot, the place they always paused on the walk home, night after night, for two years, long before either of them knew what it would become. From Ray's balcony, right above Tenku Sushi, the two of them could look out over nearly all of downtown Woodstock, the same rooftops and string lights that had quietly witnessed the whole thing unfold below. So when Ray got down on one knee at those same railroad tracks, on Valentine's Day, exactly two years after their first date, the story simply folded back into itself. Once the proposal happened, Ray and Kerri built the whole wedding around one rule: keep it in Woodstock. Ray orchestrated Wheeler Street Amphitheater through Sixes Management, the small covered stage tucked behind their own condos, and he booked it without hesitation. Two weeks before the wedding, the venue abruptly closed for reseeding. Ray panicked, then found out the crew's work would wrap in exactly two weeks. It did, right on schedule. CONTINUED >

“One of our friends told us we brought the whole community JD's on Main hosted the reception, renting out its upstairs space and treating the couple, in Kerri's words, like family from the moment they walked in. The guests were wowed by the dessert table. The Pie Bar supplied the pies, a nod to one of Ray's favorite downtown spots, while Small Cakes handled the cutting cake, and a friend of Kerri’s baked Southern homemade cakes just like Grandma. Flowers came together through Purple Lotus Events, Gather & Bloom, and Brenda's House of Flowers, filling the amphitheater with color despite the weather working against them. Pinnacle Party Rentals supplied the chairs guests abandoned the moment the rain started, and Gene-O Entertainment carried the ceremony music while Judah Swilley kept the reception dance floor full afterward. The officiant came together almost by accident. Sitting at Salt one night, still without anyone to marry them, Ray overheard the bartender mention her husband was an ordained minister running a Christian men's group, bearded, tattooed, which was more their style. They met Andrew Pringle at Canyons, and within minutes both of them knew he was the one who understood their story. Rings came from Holly Springs Jewelers, chosen together months before the wedding was even fully planned. Forever Films Co captured video throughout the day, and Jess Suro Photo Company handled every photograph, catching guests mid-laugh as they climbed onto the stage in the rain. Kerri had her nails done at Lush Nail Bar the week of, one last stop before a ceremony that tied her whole day back to the same few blocks that had quietly hosted almost every part of their story.

Ray and Kerri are currently living at Kerri’s home in Hickory Flat, waiting on her daughter to finish out her last year at Sequoyah High School before they move back into the condos above Tenku Sushi for good. They already know they want it: the same balcony, the same view down onto the railroad tracks and the amphitheater and the whole stretch of downtown that raised their relationship one small, ordinary night at a time. Their advice to anyone planning a wedding around here is simple. Lean on your neighbors. Book the local florist. Say yes to the pie bar. Let the bartender introduce you to her husband, because you never know who's about to change everything. Woodstock has a real way of showing up when it matters, and on a rainy Saturday in May, a hundred people proved it, standing shoulder to shoulder on a stage built for community theater, refusing to let a little rain get in the way of a wedding that always belonged to this town as much as it belonged to them.

Last October, Northside Hospital quietly opened the doors of the Northside Hospital School of Radiology. No admissions essay, no fouryear commitment, just eighteen months and a promise. The hospital had watched radiology jobs pile up faster than anyone could fill them, so it opened the Northside Hospital School of Radiography, growing its own workforce, student by student. Tuition runs a fraction of comparable programs, and Northside Hospital offers further competitive discounts for students who join the organizational workforce. The first class graduates in December 2026.

HOW NORTHSIDE HOSPITAL CHEROKEE IS TRAINING ITS OWN FUTURE, ONE STUDENT AT A TIME 18

The two people who built the Northside Hospital School of Radiography did not have years to plan it. Jamie Bailey, Program Director, and Abby Carter, Clinical Coordinator, joined Northside in mid-August 2025 and started building the program from the ground up almost immediately, writing curriculum, setting up the simulation lab, and lining up clinical rotations across five hospitals and more than seventy imaging locations statewide. The inaugural cohort walked into the classroom on October 20 and started clinical education the following week. We sat down with Jamie to talk about what that first year looked like, and why she believes this program is unlike anything else in the county.

Q: YOU HAD ONLY A FEW MONTHS TO BUILD THIS FROM NOTHING. WHAT DID THAT ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE? A: It was fast. Abby and I joined in mid-August, and we were developing processes, resources, and systems while we were already teaching our first students. Our students entered the classroom on October 20 and started clinical rotations the next week. Despite the pace, they showed up every day with enthusiasm and professionalism, and they have consistently exceeded what we expected of them.

Q: WHO IS THIS PROGRAM REALLY FOR? A: People who are passionate about patient care, committed to lifelong learning, and ready to build a rewarding career

in medical imaging. We see people from all walks of life, some students in their 40’s and 50’s looking for a career change. Then we see the other side of the spectrum, a fresh-faced 20-year-old ready to start their career and change the world.

Q: WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR STUDENTS? A: They start with lectures covering anatomy, patient care, and radiation safety, then move into our energized X-ray lab to practice positioning before they touch a patient. From there, they rotate through Northside's hospitals and outpatient centers, working supervised shifts alongside registered technologists until the classroom skills become second nature.

Q: WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT THIS FIRST YEAR? A: How much we grew right alongside our students. While they were learning the art and science of radiography, Abby and I were learning Northside's systems and building the foundation for every class after this one. It has been one shared journey of teamwork and growth, and watching our first cohort come full circle to become mentors. Beyond that, our real goal is for them to stay long after the guarantee ends. We support this with modality internships and leadership development to ensure a real path forward. Some will come back as mentors and preceptors, which is the heart of what we are building here. Lindsay Shockey, a Woodstock resident, spends her days helping bring spaces to life through thoughtful design. As Mrs. Georgia America 2026, she's applying that same intentional approach to helping others build resilience, purpose, and self-belief. "I was inspired by the incredible women who held this title before me," says Shockey. "Through their service, leadership, and dedication, they created a legacy I wanted to continue." The journey to the crown was years in the making. Along the way, Shockey discovered new strengths, formed lasting friendships, and learned valuable lessons about courage and perseverance. Professionally, Shockey has spent her career helping others see possibilities. A licensed and NCIDQ-certified interior designer, she serves as a Hospitality Interior Designer with Sims Patrick Studio. Her award-winning career includes recognition as the 2013 IIDA Best of the Best Award Winner and leadership as a past president of the Georgia Chapter of the International Interior Design Association. Her passion for design extends far beyond aesthetics. "Design is storytelling," she says. "Inspiration can come from nature, architecture, history, or the people around us. Every space has a story to tell." That creative mindset has also shaped how she approaches life. Whether she's exploring a thoughtfully designed space or spending time with her four year old daughter, Cameron, Shockey has learned the value of slowing down and being present. "My daughter has taught me to appreciate the little moments," she says. "Sometimes those are the moments that matter most." Community service is another cornerstone of her life. Through her initiative, Constructing Confidence, Shockey partners with organizations that promote leadership and community engagement. Her volunteer efforts include support for IIDA Georgia, Keep North

Fulton Beautiful, Community Bucket, Chattahoochee Riverkeepers, and the Atlanta Police Foundation. Balancing pageantry, a demanding career, volunteer commitments, and family life requires intentionality. "One day at a time," she says. "I come from a world of timelines and schedules, so knowing how to prioritize is important. Above all else, I'm a mom first. Making sure my family is taken care of is always the priority." She credits much of her success to the unwavering support of her husband, Clint Myers, and her parents David and Kate Shockey who have stood beside her throughout her pageant journey. "If it weren't for my husband, I wouldn't be a Mrs.," she says with a smile. "He knows how much I enjoy competing and helps however he can. My parents have also been on this journey with me since I was a teen. They've seen the highs and lows and have always been there cheering me on." When she's not working, volunteering, or preparing for appearances, Shockey enjoys spending time with her family in Woodstock and East Cobb. She appreciates the area's small town feel, local parks, community events, and opportunities to connect with neighbors. For women and young girls, her message is simple: stop comparing yourself to others. "Comparison is the thief of joy," she says. "Don't spend your time searching for perfection. Find what makes you happy and excited to get up every day and do it with confidence. You never know what new passion you might discover by simply going for it." Looking ahead, Shockey hopes her legacy as Mrs. Georgia America 2026 will be defined by strength, resilience, and encouragement. "I've faced loss and challenges that made me want to give up," she says. "But I kept moving forward because I knew others were watching. If I can inspire even one person to keep going when life gets hard, that's a legacy I'm proud to leave."

Jason’s full circle story:

One foot in front of the other, a local race director beat colon cancer and returned to the same finish line Local Woodstock resident, Jason Stine has run the Peachtree Road Race yearly since 2003. But last year, he crossed that finish line without knowing something was wrong, three days later, a routine colonoscopy revealed Stage 3 colon cancer. This year, the 52-year-old Ironman triathlete and race director toed the same starting line again. Only this time, he wasn't chasing a personal best. Before cancer, 10-mile runs were routine for Jason. Running has always been part of who Jason is. His first Peachtree was back in 1986, and since then he's completed multiple Ironmans, directed countless races, and led a local running club twice a week. Cancer wasn't on his radar, he had no symptoms, and the only reason he scheduled his colonoscopy was a birthday reminder from Northside Hospital. "I scheduled it just to check a box," he said. "I'm super healthy. I run." The diagnosis hit hard. "My world was flipped upside down in a day." Jason began treatment in August 2025, weeks of radiation followed by chemotherapy. His local Northside Hospital care team including radiation oncologist Dr. Abhinav Reddy, medical oncologist Dr. Yi Dong, and colorectal surgeon Dr. Mohammed Jaafar Atta Al Fayyadh.

Jason's radiation oncologist, Dr. Reddy reports, "Jason was a healthy endurance athlete with zero symptoms, which shows how silent colorectal cancer can be. His routine screening caught the disease early, allowing us to utilize an upfront radiation and chemotherapy paradigm. Because his tumor responded completely, he was able to undergo a 'watch-and-wait' protocol. His story is the exact reason we emphasize screening." His colorectal surgeon, Dr. Al Fayyadh, stated, "We are very proud of the progress that Jason has made. His positive attitude and energy definitely helped him throughout his journey and will continue to serve him well in the future. His story emphasizes the importance of early screening and the potential that colon and rectal cancer can have." "There were some days I wanted to wither away," Jason admitted. "But I'd say, 'No. Get up." He started walking a mile before each radiation session, and even when he couldn't run, he kept showing up to his running club just walking alongside the group he loved. "Just being around people made a huge difference," he said. When Jason started running in late May, he could only manage one mile. "It was a demoralizing reality check," he said. But by late June, he was up to four miles. At this

year's Peachtree, he averaged a nine-minute mile and finished the 10K in 58 minutes, slower than his usual pace, but a finish that meant more than any personal record ever had. "I just kind of went out there with the attitude of, 'Hey, I'm not going to run fast,'" he said. "I'm going to put one foot in front of the other and just keep going, I've had my day in the sun for personal bests." This year, Jason crossed the finish line cancer-free, confirmed by a follow-up colonoscopy.

"The Peachtree Road Race is full circle for me," he said. "This was different because it was a chapter opener versus a closure. This was the first page." His message to others is simple: get screened.
