Season of Style
Mindy Briar, John Videler
WE’VE ALL HAD THAT MOMENT WHEN OUR CLOSET IS FULL BUT WE CAN’T FIND A SINGLE THING TO WEAR. Whether it’s too big, too small, or just plain last season, the perfect outfit can be difficult to find. It’s no wonder, too. Our style is the first thing the rest of the world sees, and whether or not we want to admit it, deep down we all care a little about how the world perceives us. With style being all around us in the form of clothing, hair, accessories, home decor or even food, we bring you our September issue—have you guessed it yet? The style issue! Whether you’re interested in a complete fall wardrobe refresh or are just looking for a few style pointers, we’re excited to share with you the stylings of Westport. We’re not just into clothes and accessories, though. From local designers and local boutiques to style for your home, your hair and even your meals, Westport has so much to offer we wish we could’ve squeezed it all in. Whatever kind of style you’re into this season, we hope this issue inspires you to

MELISSA JOAN HART WANTS WESTPORT TO #STOPSUCKING You may remember her as the star of Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Clarissa Explains It All, but current Westport mom Melissa Joan Hart is using her star power to promote the #stopsucking campaign against plastic straws. Kicking off with #PlasticFreeJuly, the campaign urges Westport residents and businesses to ditch single-use plastics like straws, bags, cups, cutlery and plates in favor of biodegradable or reusable types. Single-use plastic straws and other items are “a threat to our environment and as an environmentally aware town and a beach town on Long Island Sound, I think it is our duty to take small steps to ensure a better future for our children and community. How many times have you walked at Compo and found straws laying in the sand?” Melissa says. “Now imagine a sea turtle with a straw stuck in its nose." Small steps to remedy this can include local restaurants and food establishments supplying straws to customers only upon request. Consider this a friendly reminder from MJH that small actions can add up to contribute to meaningful change for the environment!

OPEN HOUSE
(CON TI N U ED)
“Our towns continue to have a lifestyle that people have been gravitating to for many years. Easy access to New York City, a waterfront lifestyle, culture, great eateries, top-notch schools and a great sense of community,” she says. “The Westport area has always been an artist community, so we still get a dash of celebrity. ”For our loyal WLM readers, Michelle imparts some insider market trends. “The buyer today is seeking a sense of community more than ever. I feel that our lives have become so connected that we’ve become disconnected. At the end of the day, buyers are seeking community and want to be walking distance to town, the beach or the train.” Michelle attributes this trend to technology. “The same is true with the style of homes that seem to be most in demand. Our lives are busier, so our homes need to be more of a sanctuary. We are seeing more interest in modern, clean lines, lots of glass and calm colors,” she says. “10 Gray Lane perfectly captures this feeling; you just exhale when you step through the door.” Michelle discovered the real estate industry while buying her first home 30 years ago. “Real estate found me! I discovered that realtors were not looking at real estate as their own business. No one focused on listing and marketing. I saw there was a real niche to be filled and started branding myself along with my properties. ”Michelle identified that attention to detail makes all the difference. She was the first to form a team, and today it consists of a dedicated administrative and five-member marketing team, along with five ABR-designated buyer specialists. Michelle&Company’s marketing team ensures every communication represents the properties at their best. Digital magazines, 3-D tours and online ad campaigns tell the story of each home. “We’re selling more than a home; we’re selling a lifestyle,” Michelle says. Does this innovative strategy actually work? “Our approach has helped us get outside the search engine, connecting buyers with properties they would never have found by a simple town search. ”The proof is in the results. Michelle&Company’s focus on branding and creative thinking has garnered accolades from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, recognizing Michelle as an industry leader. After our day at 10 Gray Lane, it’s clear that Michelle has honed in on what it takes to be an innovative leader in her field and has a natural ability to make you feel right at home.

RENOVATE & REFINE
CLOSET MAKEOVER UPDATE YOUR CLOSET TO ITS FULLEST POTENTIAL WITH THESE RENOVATION TIPS FROM A LOCAL CLOSET CONNOISSEUR
WHEN YOU'RE RUNNING LATE FOR A BIG MEETING, THE LAST THING YOU NEED IS TO WASTE TIME SEARCHING FOR YOUR LUCKY SWEATER. Nataliya Bryksa, co-owner of Closet Factory in Bethel, has a knack for designing closets that are built to maximize efficiency, save space, and most
1
importantly, save you time.
THE FIRST STEP TO RENOVATING YOUR CLOSET IS CONSULTING WITH A PROFESSIONAL.
“We work with the space and provide each client with
personalized service,” Nataliya says. “Collaboration is very important to us, and because of this, all of our consultations are complimentary.” Meeting with an expert closet company, such as Closet Factory, is crucial, as they will advise you on how to best maximize your space by thoroughly measuring the area and the inventory. They will then take this information and design a functional and aesthetic closet that fits your style and needs. Sit back and relax while your closet is transformed with care from start to finish.

MAKE IT CUSTOM. “We have the most extensive product line to build a closet system you will love,” Nataliya says. “Everything is locally manufactured based on the clients’ needs. We make everything totally custom, and we are full-service.” With so many options to choose from, you are bound to find a design that not only fits your personal style but also works fluidly with the items you plan on storing in the space. It can be easier to achieve your dream
3
closet than you think.
FOR A FINISHING TOUCH, ACCESSORIZE WITH FEATURES THAT GIVE YOUR CLOSET EXTRA ORGANIZATION AND ADDED PERSONALITY.
“If you can dream it, we can build it. Accessories aren’t always necessary, but they are very helpful in making the closet more organized…and they are visually pleasing,” Nataliya says. Accessories can include lighting, like lights inside of hanging rods, LED lights and strip lights, jewelry trays, clothing dividers and beyond.
