Get ready for the holidays with cosmetic dermatologist and skincare expert Dr. Tanya Futoryan and her team of nurses and PAs. Enhance your best features and look your best this holiday season.
Call for a consultation 203-226-3600. I have had about 10 treatments of botox at various places over the past several years. Some in CA some in CT. This experience was by far the best I have ever had. The placement of the botox was different than I had ever received, but also the most effective for my eyebrow tension… I highly recommend this practice! - Kim
I have been seeing Dr. Futoryan for about two years now, and have been so pleased with my experience at Westport Dermatology. She is professional, has deep experience and knowledge in the field, and is warm and kind …the office is clean and pleasant, the nurses and staff are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend her and Westport Dermatology … they are the best! - Megan
I met Dr. Futoryan when I first moved here…She eventually did my Botox and then suggested I try Sculptra. I was nervous at first, as it is an investment, but once I did it, I was so pleased with the results. (And it lasts up to 2 years!) She is very knowledgeable and skilled. She truly is an artist when it comes to making you look naturally younger and fuller in the face…and feel lucky to have found her. I trust her and like that I have someone that can help me continue to age gracefully and naturally. It helps, too to start sooner than later. I started in my 40’s and am so happy I did. She also suggests maintenance treatments based on what your goals are, like IPL, Laser Genesis or Clear and Brilliant that keep your skin feeling young, refreshed and bright. - Lisa

H O L I D AY C O C K TA I L S & M O C K TA I L SOME OF MY FAVORITE FUN HOLIDAY COCKTAILS (AND A MOCKTAIL!) to celebrate the season. Wishing the happiest of holidays to you all. Cheers!
Ginger Sparkler Personally, this is one of my favorites. I love the subtle hint of ginger in the bubbles; tastes like seasonal perfection. If you’re looking to prep several drinks for guests, this recipe is especially easy to make for a large group. Just make the ginger simple syrup ahead of time & pop a bottle of bubbles when your guests arrive.

really my thing, anything with ice cream is. The bourbon, rum & spices are sure to warm you up from the chilly winter gusts while the ice cream makes for a wonderfully decadent base. I'd describe this drink as "sweet, but not too sweet" as the flavors blend incredibly well in this melange; even my non-sweet-toothed husband loves this holiday hit.

Cartier, because it’s Cartier and their watches are notoriously beautiful. Rubber wristbands are becoming increasingly popular (waterproof, lightweight, easy-to-clean), so Cartier has designed them to resemble sewn leather or incorporated hardware to evoke stainless steel. Then there’s the one that truly captures our imagination, the Brietling Emergency watch. It’s for the adventurous individual who runs risk of being lost or stranded somewhere more exotic than a lonely road in New Haven. “You pull an antenna out of the watch to send a signal to the Coast Guard and other organizations, alerting them to where you are,” Mike explains. WESTPORT'S FAVORITE SUCCESS STORY
MARTHA STEWART IS, PERHAPS, THE WOMAN FOR WHOM WESTPORT IS MOST FAMOUS. While living on Turkey Hill Road she began capitalizing on our country’s waning interest in domesticity, then elevated the art of housekeeping and entertaining to a multi-billion dollar business with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. With the advent of social media, she unwittingly invented the role of “influencer,” forging a new career path for millions of followers. And her friendship with Snoop Dogg has become as famous as her roast poultry. More recently, she started the popular mail-meal service Martha and Marley Spoon and an elegant line of CBD pastiches and dog treats. Further, Harper’s Bazaar profiled her in April, including numerous images of the former model in drop-dead ensembles, proving that style and substance endure like the cast-iron steel of a beloved sauté pan. As a (very) junior graphic designer, Westporter Michele Consentino recalls working in 1998 at Doyle Partners in New York City. “Stephen Doyle, the principal, was married to Gael Towey, the creative director of Martha Stewart. At that time Martha was expanding her publishing business to include household products like paint, garden seeds and supplies, cookware, and baby accessories. “Martha selected Doyle Partners to design her new product packaging. She came to our office on the day we presented the baby line packaging. I was delighted to see she matched my larger than life perception of her. “Silently, she began looking at each design with consideration. Masterfully, Stephen elaborated on his designs, explaining finishes and paper selections. “Martha chose three designs she liked best. They were mine. I couldn’t help but smile to myself while they left the room. I began cleaning up when Martha re-entered. I froze. She said, ‘Those three are yours, aren't they?’ I nodded. She looked me in the eyes and with the slightest smile said, ‘You are good.’ She nodded and left the room again. “She was direct, appreciative, and spent one extra moment to encourage a young woman. Thank you, Martha.”

AS HARPER’S BAZAAR POINTED OUT, YOU ARE THE ORIGINAL INFLUENCER. YOU’RE ALSO A BOTTOM-UP INNOVATOR IN EVERY FACET OF YOUR BUSINESS, BEGINNING WITH YOUR WESTPORT “LABORATORY” HOME. NOW THE COUNTRY IS LITTERED WITH INFLUENCERS, MOST OF WHICH DON’T HAVE THE SUBSTANCE AND KNOWLEDGE BASE THAT YOU DO. THIS ISN’T A QUESTION, IT’S JUST AN OBSERVATION. I’ve been lucky in the fact that as an influencer I am 100% authentic. I never profess to know anything about anything unless I have done it myself. That pertains to gardening, cooking, entertaining, decorating and investing. THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER, WHO HAS INFLUENCED YOU MOST AND WHY? Experts always influence me the most. Whether it’s a top notch chef like Daniel Boulud, Eric Ripert, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, or Nobu Matsuhisa, or a great interior designer like Stephen Sills or a great landscape designer like Jens Jensen, I always look to the experts in a certain field for inspiration and information.

A MAGICAL CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
FAVORITE SEASON MEMORIES

ARTICLE ROBIN MOYER CHUNG
One year I got it in my head that we needed to throw a live donkey into the Christmas Pageant mix at Greens Farms Congregational. I put the word out that I was on the hunt for a well-priced mule, and to my surprise, I received this text, “I found a donkey, I booked it, it’s my ‘TIS THE SEASON FOR STORIES THAT WE TELL

poignant, funny, and special.
On the morning of the pageant, the donkey arrived on time, ready for a quick run-through. A hush fell over the room as the children gazed in wonder at a donkey strolling down the aisle. The moment felt magical– I silently high-fived myself. As the donkey approached the front of the church it suddenly stopped, the carpet it had been walking on switched to hardwood floor, and that was enough to spook it. It lost it. Literally. Everywhere. Poop. On the carpet. In the middle of the church. And that… is how we made our church truly feel like a manger that year! By Caroline B.

MRS. PRICE AND THE HOLIDAYS
DRIVING LESSON
04
On Christmas Eve my grandson took a long nap. I told everyone to go on to dinner and I’d drive over with him when he woke up. I was driving along a quiet road and spotted a police car ahead of me. I explained to my toddler in the back seat that the police are helping us by catching cars that are speeding. All of the sudden I saw the police following me. I stopped my car. “Anything wrong?” I asked rolling down the window. “License please,” the officer said. “You were speeding in a school region.” Luckily I only got a warning. By Maria C.

Mrs. Price lived with a caretaker next door to us. Her family had moved away and it was sad for her at holiday time. We brought her things - she especially loved the fresh eggs. We made her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and sang carols in her living room. While walking through the woods to deliver these meals, my kids would sing, “Over the river and through the woods to Mrs. Price’s house we go!” Her son moved her to Texas to be closer to him. She died last year at 99 years old. By Dierdre O. CONTINUED >

rushing us to church. Like many newlyweds, my parents struck a deal—my mother would convert to Judaism if my Dad would attend Synagogue, she would cook all of the meals and celebrate our Jewish holidays if he would “let” her have a tree and attend midnight mass annually. However, attending a Christian service in an unfamiliar church on an island in the middle of his hard-earned vacation was more than he could bear. Still, we asked a local taxi driver to take us to a church and soon he dropped us at a some back street dilapidated church. The building was packed building with no other white people in sight. I was certain we weren’t welcome. Then a beautiful lady in the pew in front of us turned, “Hello little one, Merry Christmas!” she said with a rhythmic accent. Then the singing and the Caribbean drums filled the church with music. The spirt was contagious - I sang at the top of my lungs, danced in my seat, Even my

I grew up in an Orthodox Jewish home. I went to an orthodox jewish school, spoke Hebrew. My grandparents, especially, were very religious. However, I’m not religious. I married a woman whose Christian family loved a big Christmas. Suddenly every December there was a large tree in my home. I was surprised at how difficult it was, culturally and traditionally, to see a Christmas tree in my home. Sometimes I’d have to walk out of the room. I’m fine with it now. By David J. 74

GIVING BACK
Gratefully
GIVING AWAY AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR, LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS IS GIVING $300,000 TO RECIPIENTS IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND BEYOND... AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!
THEY NEED YOUR HELP FINDING THOSE RECIPIENTS. ARTICLE ALLISON GIBESON
Last year’s giveaway campaign culminated in the distribution
PHOTOGRAPHY JANIE JONES
of $250,000 throughout the year to recipients from across the country who had various needs. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community members such as judges, Anna Sarol
police officers, teachers, mentors, social workers and readers like you nominated community members who were facing hardships. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers and stakeholders were able to help identify people who might have otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Anna Sarol. About six years ago Anna was paralyzed in a gymnastics accident when she was a freshman in high school, but until last year she did not have a stairlift in her home. The stairlift was made possible when Lifestyle Publications gave her family $10,000 and made sure it was installed. “Stairlifts don’t come at a feasible price, and unfortunately our insurance denied coverage,” Anna says. “I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my family and I are.” The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of the giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients. Among those recipients were single mothers, families with children who were facing illnesses, individuals impacted by the loss of a job, unexpected deaths and more.
84
Westport Lifestyle | December 2021
Another nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her two nephews and niece. The children came from an abusive situation involving violence, drugs, and neglect. Kathy, a single parent, worked tirelessly to provide for these children, but the family was still living in poverty despite her working seven days a week. Additionally, Kathy lost her housecleaning job during the pandemic and resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent. When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy.
“This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.” CONTINUED >

GIVING BACK (CONTINUED)
“When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors. They experienced Christmas like their peers, which filled them with such pride as it was something they have wished for all their lives.” The case manager says the lesson is clear – when we give back to others, we truly gain so much more in the process. She said she was filled with overwhelming joy when she saw the children’s faces filled with smiles and a Christmas tree in their home for the first time. In addition, the aunt’s expressed desire to give back to others made the giving cycle full circle. In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient. She was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children, let alone providing them with a fun Christmas. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which impacted her income as the students attended a nearby school after the building was hit. The whole town was struggling as 220 people were injured and five were killed because of the tornado, and everyone needed encouragement. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. The leaders of Lifestyle Publications believe God has blessed them, so they want to be a blessing and encouragement to others. With this year’s giveaway being increased to $300,000 to give away throughout the year, it’s clear this is an opportunity to change many lives in the same way Anna’s was changed. “As a 2020 recipient of the Christmas giveaway, I am forever grateful I now can access my basement independently,” Anna says. “Locating a fully accessible household in my area is nearly impossible, and living in a state that experiences tornado warnings means finding a way to get to my basement by myself is crucial. Not only this, but I also now have the option of utilizing another level of my house to hang out with friends and family.” *Names changed for privacy

Keep your guests happy with the perfect cheese plate. Consider how many people you’ll be serving, whether you’ll be serving before or after dinner and what cheeses you’ll want to include. According to WineFolly.com, sparkling wines pair best with creamy, sticky cheeses due to the high acidity and carbonation. WHAT YOU NEED + Cheese board or serving plate + Assortment of cheeses (We recommend Brie, Port Salut, Muenster, Camembert or Gruyere) PUTTING IT TOGETHER Cheese is best served at room temperature, so be sure your cheese has time to rest prior to serving. Slice the cheeses and arrange artfully on your cheese board with labels for each. Consider providing separate serving knives for each cheese to avoid any mixing of flavors. Add any additional bites you’d like and enjoy!
