Our Love Local Issue and an Update from Publisher Candice Berube I don’t know about you, but this time of year I am always torn. I find myself torn between resisting the commercialization of another greeting card holiday and indulging in all the sweet excuses to enjoy the season. To do a Valentine’s Day date out or enjoy a cozy night at home? To buy a card or just say a kind word? I usually land somewhere a little in between. We’ll each arrive at different answers based on our preferences and personalities, but what we hold in common is an opportunity to make sure those around us know we love them. And regardless of how you choose to celebrate, we hope the pages of this month’s magazine will help you do just that as we celebrate and highlight what’s to love in your local community. To that end, I am ushering in my own new beginnings. The last 4.5 years have been amazing, having launched Westfield City Lifestyle, and bringing local stories of the community into homes across Westfield and Southwick. I am stepping down from my role as Publisher of the magazine, but I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the publication’s new Publisher, Wade Rivest. Wade is a veteran, a local business man, and father - I know he’s going to do a great job and that you’ll welcome him with open arms! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

My name is Jennifer Judd, and I am an entrepreneur and musician who has been on a healing journey for approximately 14 years. I embarked on this path due to chronic health issues that traditional medicine couldn't address, leading me toward alternative healing. Despite the challenges, I'm grateful to say that I've been gradually reversing my issues. Now, I feel compelled to serve others by sharing the knowledge I've gained. I've undergone training in energy work, crystal healing, aromatherapies, and yoga. Currently, I'm pursuing my 500-hour yoga teacher certification in Kundalini Yoga and a 1000-hour certification in Ayurveda.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE INNER PEACE, OUTER BALANCE?

under that name. It's an ongoing process, akin to a relationship with myself and others, which I view as a sacred and lifelong learning journey. In 2020, amidst the pandemic, I ventured into selling crystals, and while it has grown substantially through social media, my passion for teaching and self-healing compels me to reintroduce classes and private sessions.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO OPEN THE SPACE?

In 2021, I had to move suddenly, prompting the need for a space to sell crystals urgently. Having previously rented from The Mill at Crane Pond, they welcomed me back. I chose a spot with ample natural light and open space, envisioning it as a space for yoga classes when I was ready to reintroduce them. WHAT DO YOU SELL? I offer polished and natural crystals, gemstone jewelry, and metaphysical items sourced globally. Additionally, we provide acupressure sessions, energy work, aromatherapy sessions, yoga and meditation classes, and special workshops that integrate these areas.

HOW DO YOU REACH YOUR CUSTOMERS? WHAT DO YOU WANT OUR READERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR STORE?

Our primary presence is through social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram. Tik Tok is on the horizon! While we have recently begun opening our space to local customers, those interested in shopping in person should call ahead to ensure my availability. By following my personal Facebook page and the Inner Peace, Outer Balance Facebook page, customers can stay informed about special sales, crystal giveaways, and new items. We regularly showcase new products in live videos on Facebook or in-store.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR INNER PEACE, OUTER BALANCE?

Since December, we've initiated regular yoga classes on Saturdays from 9:30-10:30 AM and will announce additional classes on our Facebook page. Work is underway to launch a website for Inner Peace, Outer Balance. Additionally, for strategic reasons, we are rebranding and separating the crystal side of the business, introducing the new name Epic Crystals. With this change, we aim to enhance our social media presence and provide an even better shopping experience. Q: WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THE BRASS RAIL MEETING HOUSE?

A: The Brass Rail was owned and operated by Louis “Gino” Boccasile and his wife Libera from 1941 to 1970. Born in Italy, the couple transformed The Brass Rail into a multifaceted venue, offering dancing, bowling, dining, floor shows, and live entertainment. The venue became a hub for various events, including weddings, receptions, banquets, fashion shows, auctions, and cocktail parties. In 2020, Jennifer Nolasco assumed ownership and initiated renovations that focused on preserving the venue’s history and charm. Notably, the historic bowling alley floor was salvaged and repurposed as the new dance floor and bar top in the lower-level ballroom. The Brass Rail Meeting House has a longstanding commitment to serving the community, and with updated renovations, top chefs, and attentive staffing, it aspires to continue providing memorable experiences for weddings and events.

A: The Brass Rail Meeting House hosts an annual open house for the public to tour the updated venue. The next open house, scheduled for Sunday, February 18th from 2-6 pm, features complimentary light bites, venue tours, live music, and showcases multiple event vendors. Starting in early summer, the venue plans to host a weekly Sunday Funday event with local vendors and live music on the beautiful outdoor deck from 2-6 pm.
