For Kristen Barbee, Honey Loves Boho started as a simple dream, one that blossomed from her living room into a cherished Fort Worth boutique. Today, it’s a place where women can feel confident and celebrated. Getting here, however, meant trusting her instincts and taking a bold chance. Before opening her storefront, Kristen worked at her family’s horse ranch, offering support through marketing and photography. “I loved working on my family’s ranch, but it didn’t fully fulfill me,” she shares. “I always wanted to open a boutique, so I used all my life savings and started this business.” Honey Loves Boho officially launched online in December, and by May 2024, she opened the doors to her first brick-and-mortar location. Those early months were scrappy, joyful, and full of hustle. Kristen shipped packages from her living room and recruited friends to model her latest arrivals. As demand grew, she began hearing the same request over and over: When are you opening a store? Her customers wanted a place to try pieces on and experience the brand in person. CONTINUED >

Kristen worked tirelessly through 2023 and saved enough to make it happen. “Ever since we opened, it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made,” she says. “We’ve grown so much, and I am incredibly thankful for the people who have been with me since the beginning.”

Honey Loves Boho is known for its wide range of styles and inclusive sizing, but Kristen continues to push her creativity with new collections, including her latest, a pickleball-inspired line of athletic wear. What sparked this sporty addition? “Pickleball is social and fun, and it’s exploded in our community,” Kristen explains. “I wanted to create a collection that makes you feel good about moving your body. A LEGACY OF LOVE AND SERVICE

Since 1970, Leukemia Texas has stood as a beacon of hope for families facing one of life’s most devastating diagnoses. For more than five decades, the organization has provided patient aid and funded innovative research, all while keeping 100% of donations right here in Texas. Its continued impact is due to the passion and generosity of people who believe no Texan should face leukemia alone. Volunteers, survivors, corporate and financial leaders, physicians, philanthropists, and a deeply committed Board of Directors all rally behind the same mission: helping Texans beat leukemia through patient aid, research, and innovation. The organization was founded by M.T. “Buddy” Minyard, who established it in memory of his wife, Clairene, after she passed from acute leukemia in 1967. His vision was clear: create a nonprofit dedicated to fighting this devastating disease while supporting patients and their families. More than fifty years later, that vision has grown into a statewide force for good. Leukemia Texas has awarded over $10 million in research grants and delivered direct aid to thousands of patients across Texas.

This commitment allows the organization to provide immediate, practical support to leukemia patients of all ages and backgrounds. Through the Leukemia Texas Patient Aid Program, eligible families can receive direct financial aid to help offset the overwhelming cost of treatment, transportation, hospital visits, specialized care, and other essentials. In 2024 alone, the organization issued 137 patient aid checks, providing support to those who need it most.

Yet financial aid is only one piece of the support system they offer. Leukemia Texas also fosters hope and connection through its Buddy Cares Program. With a $25 donation, supporters can send a 12-inch plush Buddy Bear to bring comfort during long hospital stays or volunteer to assemble Buddy Packs, care packages filled with blankets, socks, journals, and other comforting items. In 2024, 155 Buddy Packs, 65 Buddy Notes, and 8 Travel Buddy Suitcases were delivered to leukemia patients across Texas, offering small gestures with a profound message: you are not alone.

THE BOWMANS: A LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO PATIENTS

Among those championing the mission are Dr. Paul Bowman and his wife, Lois, who have served on the Board of Directors since 2022 and as Co-Chairs since 2024. Dr. Bowman has dedicated his career to caring for children with leukemia and advancing treatment through clinical research. “Leukemia is a group of cancers of the blood and bone marrow,” Dr. Bowman explains. “These diseases can happen at any age, and we at Leukemia Texas want to make sure that wherever someone is in their treatment, we can offer a helping hand.” CONTINUED >

While acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood leukemia, has seen increased survival rates worldwide, Dr. Bowman emphasizes that every diagnosis, even with a good prognosis, brings tremendous challenges. “Economically, physically, emotionally, spiritually—leukemia impacts the entire family,” he says. “Our goal is to support parents and caregivers so they can remain active partners in their loved one’s care without the overwhelming burden of cost.” Dr. Bowman joined Cook Children’s Hospital in 1982, specializing in childhood leukemia and leading clinical research to improve outcomes. Several years ago, he met a patient whose parents introduced him to Leukemia Texas and encouraged him to attend the organization’s signature fundraiser, the BEATLEukemia Ball. He and Lois attended their first Ball in 2007 and were deeply moved by the families’ stories and by Leukemia Texas’s dedication to helping patients and their families. “Leukemia doesn’t just impact the patient. It affects entire families and the complex challenges they are facing,” Lois recalls. “We wanted to take some of that weight off their shoulders.” In 2014, the Bowmans brought the beloved fundraiser from Dallas to Fort Worth, where the community welcomed it with open arms. This past year marked the event’s 20th anniversary. “We were amazed by the support in Fort Worth,” Lois says. “The leadership and community that stepped up when we moved the fundraiser were incredible.”

JOHN’S STORY: A FAMILY FOREVER CHANGED

One of the many families touched by Leukemia Texas includes a little boy named John, who was diagnosed with leukemia at age three in 2024. Previously a healthy child who visited the doctor only for routine checkups, John began to feel unusually warm one June evening. His parents, Aaron and Paris, brought him to Cook Children’s Urgent Care, hoping for simple answers. X-rays showed his lungs were clear, and they were sent home.

But by the next morning, John’s fever spiked to 104.7 degrees, and Paris struggled through the night trying to bring it down. When they took him to his pediatrician, bloodwork revealed something alarming: John had no normal white blood cells. He was immediately sent to the Cook Children’s Emergency Room for urgent evaluation. “I wasn’t outwardly worried at first,” Aaron recalls. “But when hours passed with no results, I knew something was wrong. We later learned the doctors had run the tests again and again, trying to confirm the unthinkable.” Eventually, a hematologist-oncologist entered the room with the news no parent ever wants to hear. “We felt like outsiders on the 5th floor Oncology Inpatient Unit,” Aaron says. “Sick children were playing, families were having Fourth of July parties, and we were there with our baby boy, hoping, praying, that we didn’t belong. But it was cancer.” The tests confirmed that John had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Finding Connection Through Leukemia Texas After the diagnosis, a friend encouraged Aaron and Paris to contact Leukemia Texas. That introduction led them back to a former church friend who had once cared for John as a newborn, and who had faced her own daughter’s leukemia diagnosis when she was just two. The family soon discovered more unexpected connections. Aaron realized he had known the daughter of the Leukemia Texas Co-Chairs for years, and even John’s oncologist had once worked with his nurse in the very clinic founded by that same chair. “These connections reminded us we weren’t walking this journey alone,” Aaron reflects.“We were surrounded by people who understood exactly what we were going through.”

SUPPORT WHEN IT MATTERS MOST

When John was first diagnosed, the family’s home AC system broke during the Texas summer heat. Leukemia Texas stepped in, providing a grant to help pay for repairs and delivering John a custom Spider-Man suitcase for his many hospital stays.

Support continued during the holidays. Partnering with generous local donors, Leukemia Texas surprised the family with Christmas gifts that filled their living room wall-to-wall. “We were living day to day—doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, no future planning,” Aaron remembers. “That Christmas was overwhelming in the best way. I’ll never forget that generosity.” Since October 2024, John has officially been in remission. He finished intensive treatment this past May, and even though he faced some setbacks getting into the maintenance portion of his treatment, John started kindergarten this year. “We are still working through the challenges of missing out on socialization for a year, but John is thriving in school and getting to be around other kids again. He still has about a year and a half of monthly treatment, and we are still on high alert for any fevers or illnesses, but life is settling into a new normal, and we are finally able to breathe again,” says Paris and Aaron.

STRENGTH IN COMMUNITY

John’s journey is just one of thousands shaped by Leukemia Texas. Through Patient Aid, the Buddy Cares Program, and vital research funding, the organization ensures Texans feel supported during some of the most challenging times of their lives. “You’re not alone,” Aaron shares. “This journey isn’t easy. Trust your medical team. Ask questions. Seek out resources. And when you’re able, share. When you see another family on the 5th floor getting the worst news of their lives, go to them. Build community. Support them just as someone once supported you.”

From an early age, Dr. James Fischer knew he wanted to help people in the realm of medicine. As a teenager, he discovered that dentistry was the right path for him, and dental school helped James refine his focus even further to specialize in prosthodontics. “While I was in dental school in San Antonio, I was really taken aback by the ability to transform a patient's smile and restore their quality of life,” shares James. “That is where I became introduced to the specialty of prosthodontics. I shadowed some residents in the prosthodontic residency program and knew immediately that was what I wanted to specialize in.” In 2016, James opened Fischer Dental and as a board-certified prosthodontist, he focuses on addressing dental concerns that are both functional and cosmetic. His practice offers dental solutions ranging from single-tooth replacement to full-mouth reconstruction, including crowns, veneers, implant restorations, dentures, and more. “Every person's story is unique to them and what brings them through our doors is different,” he explains. “Some people are not happy with their smile because of missing teeth; others have been enduring painful teeth for many years and may not have the ability to chew or live a high quality life. We spend a lot of time focusing on how we can best help them.” At Fischer Dental, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming to help patients feel at ease. “I work with a great team! We meet people where they are and we have intentionally created a pressure and judgement-free space. Our goal is helping people see the vision that they themselves might not be able to see,” he explains. “I want patients, either at consultation or when we are presenting a treatment plan, to have their questions answered in a way that they feel comfortable with. Because when a patient is on board with the plan and they feel good about it, that is when we see the best outcomes.” CONTINUED >

The first step to a beautiful, pain-free smile begins with an initial, complimentary consultation appointment where the team performs an exam, asks questions, identifies the problem, and talks through any points of concern for the patient. Because Fischer Dental is a boutique dental practice, James and his team have the time and resources to place top priority on truly focusing on each patient and their individual story. “We have designed our practice with the ability to invest a lot of time and energy into walking patients through their entire journey. We take a hands-on approach to all aspects of their care from intake, identifying why they need to be here, making sure they are a good fit for our practice, and coaching them through the process,” says James. “With our small practice feel, we can be a lot more intentional in our conversations, treatment approaches, and our ability to care for individuals at a higher level.” For James, one of the greatest joys in his profession is seeing the meaningful, positive impact having a new smile has on his

patients' experience and their quality of life. “Taking somebody from the beginning of their story and walking them through that transformation process to the other side, which can take anywhere from several months to a couple years, makes a huge impact. There is obviously a dental component, but there is a huge emotional component for individuals as well,” says James. “Seeing the before, capturing the vision for what we can accomplish and where we can take them, and seeing the other side is pretty impactful for them and for myself as well.” In addition to caring for his patients, James currently serves as the President of the Fort Worth District Dental Society and is an active member in multiple state and national professional organizations. When Provender Homes opened its doors in Fort Worth, it introduced a custom home builder committed to exquisite detail, thoughtful creativity, and genuine connection with the families it serves. should be as unique and inspiring as the families who live in it. With a shared passion for thoughtful design, the pair quickly found their rhythm building not just homes, but lasting relationships. Christian spent 15 years in the construction industry, working on major commercial projects, including the Amon G. Carter Stadium and the Kimbell Art Museum. But over time, he felt pulled toward a more relational side in the space. “I really like the people part of building,” Christian says. “I enjoy getting to know our customers on a deep level and then meeting a need. Quantity has never been a goal of mine. It’s the quality of our homes and the sweet friendships we have been able to develop that make the true difference.” Christian’s philosophy is simple: each project Provender Homes undertakes embodies creativity, precision, and meticulous attention to detail, while emphasizing the vital role of trusted relationships throughout the entire process. Allie, meanwhile, has always gravitated toward design and structure, with an eye for blending aesthetics and practicality. Having four kids of their own, Allie understands the importance of creating spaces that look beautiful while supporting the realities of everyday living. “Design should reflect the needs of

the people who use the space,” she says. “It should enhance its style while making everyday life feel effortless.” “We make a really great team,” says Allie. “I’m more administrative and aesthetically-driven, while Christian is focused on function and logistics. I can’t remember a time when we came across a complex problem that Christian couldn’t solve.” Together, their combined strengths create a uniquely thoughtful design process, one rooted in both precision and inspiration. “I’ve always gravitated toward timeless, traditional design styles—approaches that have endured for generations,” Allie explains. “Whenever we can, we travel before beginning a project to immerse ourselves in the architecture we’re drawing from. For one home, we visited Nantucket to study Cape Cod Colonial design. For another, we explored ‘single houses’ and toured the Bevolo gas lantern factory while working on a New Orleans–inspired build. Experiencing these places firsthand helps us stay inspired and deeply informed about the styles our clients connect with.”

BUILDING HOMES WITH INTENTION

When it comes to building custom homes, Christian and Allie embrace a highly tailored, thoughtful, hands-on approach. “We keep our client list intentionally small so we can stay deeply engaged in each project,” Christian says. “I take a very hands-on approach. I only have a few people I need to pick up the phone for, and they know they can reach me anytime. That closeness allows us to anticipate needs, stay aligned, and create homes that feel personal from start to finish.” Whether a homeowner is starting from the ground up or renovating an existing space, Allie and Christian guide each phase with care.

TAILORED EXCELLENCE IN ACTION

a personal boat dock for the family, and the property’s nearly one-acre footprint makes it a rare opportunity in Fort Worth.” Their clients were drawn to a traditional Colonial aesthetic with timeless architectural details. “Think of a symmetrical façade, multipane windows, thoughtful trim, gas lanterns, authentic louvered shutters, white-painted brick, and a dreamy brick-paved walkway. That was the vision,” Allie describes. "Collaborating with these clients was such a joy.” There was an existing home on the property, and the new homeowners initially hoped to preserve it. “When we first met with our clients, their heart was to preserve the roots of the property,” Allie explains. “But it quickly became clear that a complete rebuild was necessary to give their vision the space it needed to take shape.” Even as they chose to start from scratch, with the help of Heritage Designs Studio to bring the new design to life, the homeowners were committed to honoring the original property. “We reclaimed brick from the old home to craft the new flowerbed planters and repurposed the original front door handleset as a

meaningful detail in their new game room, blending past and present in a thoughtful, personal way,” Christian said. From teardown to completion, the project spanned thirteen months, with each step carefully managed.

RH YOUNTVILLE RESTAURANT The flashy, splashy RH Yountville is hard to miss as it takes up nearly a full block along Yountville’s ultra-walkable downtown. The Restoration Hardwareowned property is a wine, food, and shopping mecca comprised of five separate experiences—an indoor/ outdoor restaurant with a glass roof surrounded by 100-year-old olive trees and adorned with dramatic crystal chandeliers; a two-story wine-tasting space with its own share of crystal chandeliers and a sleek limestone bar; a limited-production wine center; an espresso bar; and a boutique design gallery grander in scale than even its ever-so-lavish sister property at the Scottsdale Quarter in Scottsdale. Award-winning chef Brendan Sodikoff leads the kitchen, sourcing seasonal ingredients from nearby farms and using them as inspiration for both whimsical, shareable, and New American fare, as well as twists on comfort-food classics. His team allows vegetables to shine right along with proteins, making it the perfect place for all diets. There are at least 40 wines by the glass on the menu at any given time, many from neighboring wineries.
