Giving Issue
The holidays are here, and as the spirit of the season surrounds us, many of us find ourselves trying to recapture what made this time of year feel so magical in our youth. The traditions we create for our own families often mirror the ones we grew up with—the smells, the sounds, the lights, and the gatherings that fill our homes with warmth and joy.

This month, we wanted to highlight the magic of the season and what our city has to offer to help spread holiday cheer. From local events and festive activities to opportunities to serve others, there are so many ways to experience the beauty of this time of year. While the season brings joy for many, it can also be difficult for those who are grieving or feeling alone.
In the true spirit of Christmas, let’s remember the heart of the season—the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s greatest gift of love. His example calls us to care for one another, to show compassion, and to extend grace and kindness wherever we can. My hope for you this season is that you feel His peace and love, and that together we continue to look out for one another with empathy, generosity, and hope.
Merry Christmas!

Carlton Landing blends coastal charm, small-town spirit, and lake life into a storybook retreat just hours from Fort Worth.
A Hidden Gem
on Lake Eufaula
Just a short road trip from Fort Worth, you’ll find the idyllic resort community of Carlton Landing. A year-round playground of charming homes, restaurants, green space, and family adventures, Carlton Landing is a small incorporated town in Oklahoma that hugs the shores of Lake Eufaula.
A project of developer Grant Humphries, Carlton Landing has the feel of walkable beachside communities, but with its own unique twist. Humphries is a fan of places like Rosemary Beach and Seaside, and he envisioned building something

similar in nature to give people who might live a little too far from the coast a chance to experience the same type of carefree vacation. So much in fact, the same company that designed the 30A communities in Florida, DPZ, assisted in the master planning for Carlton Landing.
Amanda Coleman, a Fort Worth mother of three, fell in love with Carlton Landing from the start. She and her husband enjoyed a family vacation with friends three times over the course of a year before they decided to purchase their own place. The Lodge on Twinkle Lane has been a relaxing retreat for themselves and visitors for the last three years, and each time they arrive, they’re reminded why this community has captured their hearts.
“A lot of people talk about it being kind of a ‘90s childhood-type experience where your kids can run free and you know they're safe. It feels like the whole town is their playground. We really love that. We love our kids being able to experience that type of vacation, and it allows us to relax and breathe. It's a vacation for us as well as for them,” says Coleman.
Although all seasons in Carlton Landing have their charm, summer is the peak season, and boating and fishing activities are one of the main draws to the community. There’s a marina, a sandy beach, a dock that Coleman says is perfect for jumping off, kayaking, three pools, and a floating aqua park. There is pickleball, basketball, a sand volleyball court, nature trails, a Montessoriinspired park, and a nearby golf course.
There are even restaurants. Mama Tig’s offers wood-fired pizza (including allergy-friendly fare), gelato, and homemade pies. The Meeting House is a combo coffeeshop/bar/cafe that offers fantastic seasonal coffees, burgers, salads, and sandwiches.

“A
LOT OF TIMES, WHEN YOU GO PLACES, YOU DON’T THINK ABOUT CONNECTING WITH THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU; IT’S JUST YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. BUT WHEN YOU’RE HERE, IT FEELS LIKE THE TRUMAN SHOW. YOU SEE PEOPLE, THEY SMILE AND WAVE, AND YOU ARE DRAWN INTO A COMMUNITY. IT’S PART OF THE CHARM.”

There’s also the Carlton Landing Foundation, a unique organization dedicated to bringing Carlton Landing’s core values of relationships, creation, and simplicity to life through year-round family-friendly activities for residents and guests. Think summer movie nights, live music on weekends, free Yoga classes, the Dad Olympics on Father’s Day weekend, 4th of July festivities, Halloween fun, a home tour during the holiday season, and more. It’s truly a place where families and neighbors can connect.
Days spent in Carlton Landing seem as if they happen at a slower pace, but for all the right reasons.
“A lot of times, when you go places, you don't think about connecting with the people around you; it's just you and your family. But when you're here, it feels like The Truman Show. You see people, they smile and wave, and you are drawn into a community.
It’s part of the charm,” says Coleman.
The community is laid out in what Coleman describes as “pocket neighborhoods:” clusters of homes surrounding green space all designed similarly, whether that’s in a Coastal or French Farmhouse style or featuring old-world influences.
It’s perfect for small gatherings and large reunions, single families and multi-generational groups, or whoever you choose to vacation with.
“It's just a really great drivable destination. It's become a fantastic meeting place for people sprinkled throughout this part of the country: families that are spread out between Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and even Louisiana. In general, it's extremely family-friendly,” she says.
Coleman’s home, The Lodge on Twinkle Lane, is a 4-bedroom, 3.5-bath home that comfortably sleeps

10 and is ideal for multi-family and friend vacations. It’s a low-tox/fragrance-free environment, which means no scented air fresheners, plant-based cleaners, filtered water, organic coffee, unscented soaps, air purifiers, stainless steel cookware, and more.
And while The Lodge on Twinkle Lane is all about casual luxury, according to Coleman, it’s also got a laid-back vibe. “It's very forgiving and very kidfriendly. You’re not going to break much, and you can really relax. The kids can wrestle, and you know it’s going to be okay,” she says. The private back courtyard is her favorite space to relax near the fire pit and under the twinkle lights, while the front porch is ideal for making s’mores in the chimnea during the cooler seasons. It’s truly a retreat for anyone looking for a place to slow down, enjoy life, and connect with friends and family on a simple, but rewarding scale.

From Heartbreak to Hope
The Legacy of Amanda Mann Clark
One in 24 people will develop colorectal cancer. For Amanda Mann Clark, that statistic became a devastating reality at just 35 years old. Diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer, Amanda faced the disease head-on, channeling her energy into educating others about early-onset cancer and the life-saving importance of early detection.
Even as she battled her illness, Amanda’s determination to raise awareness inspired everyone around her, especially her close friends, who would carry her mission forward.
A LIFETIME PROMISE
“When Amanda was still alive, we were planning a girls’ weekend for one final trip together,” recalls Brittany Browning, Amanda’s close friend and now Director of Community Outreach and Events for the organization. “She ended up in the hospital, and because it was during COVID, we couldn’t go inside. So we made signs and stood outside her window. A nurse eventually let us into the lobby so we could hug
her and remind her how loved she was. We all left that day wondering if we would be able to see her again.”
That night, Amanda’s friends gathered around a dinner table, sharing stories about her passion for advocacy. “Amanda wanted to share her story with others to spread awareness,” Brittany says. “We wanted to make sure we continued to share her story, which led us to start a nonprofit in her honor.”
They had planned to surprise Amanda with the official nonprofit certificate once it was approved by the state. Sadly, it arrived after she passed, but her family was able to see her dream take shape.
HOW AMANDA’S DREAM BECAME A MOVEMENT
In 2021, The Amanda Mann Clark (AMC) Project officially launched, honoring Amanda’s spirit and commitment to awareness. The organization’s mission is to increase awareness of early-onset colorectal cancer, advocate for preventative

screenings, and provide unwavering support to patients and their families.
“After we got started, we joined a 5K for colorectal cancer,” Brittany says. “That event sparked more interest, and soon we were organizing our first board retreat and finding others who wanted to help.”
One of their most popular fundraisers, reflects the group’s lighthearted yet impactful approach. “We hold events like these because we want people to lighten up and actually hear what we are saying and understand the realities of colorectal cancer,” Brittany explains.
BUILDING COMMUNITY, ONE PARTNERSHIP AT A TIME
The AMC Project has quickly grown its reach through partnerships and community events. “We offer three $1,000 grants for patients to use however they need,” says Alexandria Strong, the organization’s President. “We also fund free colonoscopies for those who can’t afford them, because early detection can save lives.”
The team participates in numerous health fairs and serves as a healthcare vendor at the Cowtown Marathon, a race close to Amanda’s heart. They’ve also partnered with the Colon Cancer Coalition, a national organization that amplifies their message and connects them with other advocates nationwide.
Looking ahead, Brittany and Alexandria hope to expand outreach through medical partnerships. “We’d love to collaborate with OBGYNs, testosterone clinics, and GI offices – places where younger adults often go for care,” Alexandria says. “Educating providers helps us reach people who might otherwise miss early warning signs.”
KNOW THE SIGNS: DON’T IGNORE THE SYMPTOMS
Colorectal cancer is increasingly affecting adults under 45. Talk to your healthcare provider if you experience any of the following:
• Blood in your stool
• Unexplained weight loss
• Changes in bathroom habits
• Persistent cramps or low back pain
• Fatigue or anemia
• Feeling Bloated
Early detection makes all the difference.
HOW YOU CAN HELP CONTINUE AMANDA’S LEGACY
The easiest and most powerful way to make an impact is to start the conversation. “Talk about it,” Brittany and Alexandria urge. “Don’t be afraid to discuss symptoms or screenings. The more we normalize these conversations, the more lives we can save.”
There are many other ways to get involved:
• Join the team: Become a board member or volunteer for events.
• Student opportunities: High school seniors can apply for an AMC internship.
• Donate or sponsor: Contributions directly support grants, free screenings, and awareness campaigns.
To learn more or get involved, visit amcprojectcolon.org.
Amanda Mann’s story is one of courage, friendship, and purpose. Through the AMC Project, Amanda’s voice continues to echo, reminding us all to listen to our bodies, advocate for ourselves, and keep talking about the things that truly matter.

BELLA MITCHELL
SOUTHWEST CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
RECENT SPORTS OR ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS?
I’ve been blessed to win state three years in a row in five different events during my high school career, and I’ve also raced at the national level in Mexico a few times, most recently during my sophomore year. Representing another country I feel so connected to has been one of the greatest honors. I also had the opportunity to represent the U.S. in the Tri-Color Games in Reggio Emilia, Italy, where I earned a few medals and got to connect with athletes from all over the world through swimming. Academically, I was proud to earn Academic All-State last year as well.
PERSONAL HIGHLIGHTS?
Outside of academics and swimming, I’m really passionate about a nonprofit I co-founded with a friend called Gowns of Grace. We partnered with Girls Inc. to expand our mission of providing free prom and homecoming dresses to girls in need. This year, I also joined our school’s praise band, which has been such a blessing. Learning about worship and being able to lead in that capacity has helped me grow my faith and discover more about my calling. Another personal highlight is the relationships I’ve built with my friends. I truly value surrounding myself with people who not only make life fun but also encourage me to grow closer to the Lord. Community is so important, and I’m grateful for friends who remind me that I’m more than just my achievements. They’ve been a huge blessing in my high school journey.
HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN BALANCE?
Balance is definitely something I’m still learning, but I try to focus on finding joy and purpose in everything I do—whether it’s school or swimming. When I approach things with that mindset, it becomes much easier to put in the effort to do them well and succeed.
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
I don’t think swimming is something I’ll ever want to stop, whether that’s at a collegiate or club level. While I know swimming won’t be the main factor in my college decision, I do want to choose a school that will best prepare me for my future. Right now, I feel called toward a career as an occupational therapist or physical therapist, so I’m looking for a program that will help me excel in that field. Ultimately, though, my biggest goal is to follow wherever God leads me. Whether swimming is part of that or not, I trust His plan for my life.

Paddle? Check. Ball? Yep. Friends? Absolutely! Pickleball and friends. Two great things that go great together. And on the Trinity Terrace pickleball teams you can see the positive energy loud and clear. Nearby courts, clubs, and competitions, oh my! Call now to set up a visit to our community. And be sure to prepare yourself for a smashing good time.

Handcrafted Leather Treasures

Explore the high-quality craftsmanship and custom leather creations of Houston Armstrong
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE W. PARNELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY MACKA PHOTOGRAPHY

Husband and wife team Kyle and Ashlee Cowan created Houston Armstrong and now work together to produce unique leather products, which are perfect gifts for family and friends who seem to have everything. While Ashlee focuses on the business side of Houston Armstrong, Kyle spends time in the workshop creating the products. He finds that leatherwork allows him to have a similar creative outlet as during his previous career as a chef.

“The artistic side of me enjoys being able to take something raw and turn it into a beautiful piece at the end of the day,” he explains. “It has that same allure that I had when I was attracted to becoming a chef of taking raw ingredients, having a vision, and seeing the end product come to life.”
Over the last year and a half, Kyle has expanded the product line from one item to over forty items with no sign of slowing down. “I enjoy learning and creating new things,” he says. “I'm always looking at new ways to do things or new products that I can put together. I like having a wide variety of items for people to choose from.”
In Houston Armstrong’s recently opened workshop and gallery, customers have access to browse 1500 square feet of leather products and supplies. “We have a nice area for consultation and pickup of products,” Kyle shares. “Customers can also make an appointment for a personal shopping experience. They come by, browse things that we currently have in stock, and see they quality of products we’re producing as well as the variety of leather we have on hand.”
Items in the Houston Armstrong collection include holsters, wallets, belts, wine totes, rifle sleeves, and so much more. Items can be customized by laser engraving and branding the leather, and depending on the size of the item, Kyle can complete a project from start to finish in one to three days. Also available are corporate gifts and items such as custom logo mouse pads, journals, notepads, keychains, and soon-to-come leather patch hats.

Although most products are geared towards men, Kyle does have a partner he coordinates with, Urban Southern, to make more feminine items like purses and handbags. “I try to mostly focus on things for men because other than clothing, I don't think there is enough out there for women to buy for the men in their life,” explains Kyle. “I’m also an avid sportsman, so I enjoy making anything that is outdoors related because that's another passion of mine.”
Kyle embraces old-world craftsmanship, handcrafting each piece with premium, durable leather that is primarily American sourced and tanned from small tanneries. “We create great, long-lasting products with a lifetime guarantee,” he says. “I use high quality leather so there are not a lot of extra liners, covers, or sealers on the leather. I also try not to put pieces in my leatherwork that will fall apart over time. For instance, my leather belts are a 14-ounce harness leather which is one solid piece, so it creates a belt that will last a lifetime.”
One of Kyle’s favorite things he creates are gun holsters. “I’ve developed some holsters that I feel are very unique. I use a wetmolded process, so I customize each holster to each gun,” he explains. “A lot of guys carry a specific type of holster because it fits tighter. With the wet mold process, I can create a holster that is just as secure, if not more secure, but is easier on the handgun.”
With everyone’s focus turning to Christmas, Kyle has a few suggestions of unique items that would make great gifts. “We have a wide variety of men's bracelets from giraffe to elephant to buffalo,” he shares. “I've also got some great wallets, cigar cases, and leather journals. Leather valets for the bedside or desk and luggage tags also make for unique gifts.”
For more detailed information on products and to explore unique, custom gifts, visit houston-armstrong.com or call/ text Kyle at 512-810-1506. Also follow Houston Armstrong on Facebook and Instagram.

“The artistic side of me enjoys being able to take something raw and turn it into a beautiful piece at the end of the day.”

MAKEUP THAT INSPIRES CONFIDENCE

Enhancing beauty and empowering women with House of Tesla Beauty
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE W. PARNELL
Known for encouraging women to step out of their comfort zone and add pops of color, House of Tesla Beauty founder Halley Hamer has spent her career helping women look and feel beautiful. “I like women to feel and look like themselves because I have just enhanced their eyes, eyebrows, lips, or whatever is one of their favorite features,” shares Halley. “I want them to feel healthy, confident, and powerful.”
During her time as a professional make-up artist, Halley has seen and experienced how products withstand being photographed and continue to look fresh, or not, during and after events. She paired this knowledge with the desire to accentuate a woman’s features to develop the products in her full makeup line.
“I've been in the industry for a while now and I've used all our products as well as used them on family, friends, and clients for different occasions, including on set,” shares Halley. “The products perform in a way that looks good on camera, on a red carpet, or if you're a speaker in front of a crowd.”
Another unique aspect of the line includes personal consultations to ensure each client is matched with products and shades that best fit their goals and aesthetic.
“People are really focusing on their personal brand, how they look, and how they want to come across with their business. They want to ensure that it's all cohesive, which also gives them confidence to go out into the world,” explains Halley. “So instead of offering the full line where you can just buy foundations online, I meet with clients and find their perfect shade so that it is specifically made for them.”
In addition to providing high quality makeup products, House of Telsa Beauty offers makeup lessons as well as professional makeup for photo shoots, weddings, and special events. For more information, visit houseoftesla.com and follow the brand on Facebook and Instagram.

FOUNDATION STICKS
With customizable shades, foundation sticks provide maximum benefit with minimal fuss. Foundation sticks blend well and can be used as contour, bronzer, highlighter, and concealer. They are perfect for younger girls who only need a tiny bit of coverage, but are also buildable and creamy, complementing mature skin.
LASHES
Signature Lashes use cotton band technology to maintain lash shape and can be worn up to 25 times. Perfect for a lighter look, Natural Lashes utilize clear band technology and are thin and lightweight. DIY Lash Extensions can be worn up to five days and are placed underneath eyelash band.
SPECIAL LASH TRIOS
These small lash pieces are easy to apply and can be placed on lashes where a little extra fullness is needed. Lash Trios provide an excellent option for ladies who find full lashes complicated or intimidating because they do not require much practice to successfully apply.
POWERFUL POUT LIPSTICK/LIPLINER
The long-lasting, full-coverage lipsticks come in colors that range from classic, favorite shades of nude and mauve to bright reds, pinks, and tints of orange. The matte finish feels creamy and does not dry out lips. Pairs easily with signature lipliners to enhance and shape lips.
POWERFUL POUT LIP GLOSS
Full of luminosity, these lip glosses shimmer like a pearl without the use of glitter, which can often irritate lips. Pair with one of the matte lipsticks and lipliners to add a luxurious and shiny finishing touch.
MAKE-UP BUFFER BRUSH
One of Halley’s favorite tools, this brush can be used to apply concealer and foundation, then easily transition to add and buff out contour and bronzer. A best-seller, the brush is easy to use and its multi-function adaptability makes it perfect for ladies on the go.
In addition to volunteering services and donating products to support survivors of human trafficking, House of Tesla Beauty recently launched Pretty Powerful Co., a lifestyle brand designed to give back to survivors through The Net Fort Worth. A LIFETIME OF INTENTIONAL MOMENTS
ARTICLE BY BROOKE WADSWORTH
For the last five years, Angie Herdman has been helping families plan the travel experiences of their dreams. With an adventure-filled passport and a deep knowledge of the industry, Angie prides herself on crafting intentional moments that bring people together through new experiences. Angie is a Virtuoso Certified Travel Advisor and the owner of Intentional Itineraries.
Her love for travel began during her college years at Baylor University, when she studied abroad in London and Spain. “I spent six weeks in London and one week in Spain,” she recalls. “I just remember having so much fun. During our free days, I had the confidence to explore on my own and see everything I could. Every moment felt like an adventure.” Those experiences, she says, sparked a lifelong passion for exploring new places and cultures.
When Angie first entered the travel advising industry, she took every call that came her way. Today, her work is built mainly on referrals and repeat clients—an evolution that reflects both her expertise and the trust she’s earned. “I’ve learned so much in the past five years,” Angie says. “I continue to travel and explore so my clients can have the best experiences possible.”
For Angie, working as a travel advisor goes far beyond booking hotels and excursions. It’s about building meaningful relationships, understanding her clients’ priorities, and designing trips that are uniquely tailored to her clients. “I love the uniqueness of each client I work with,” she shares. “I want to get to know them, see what they’re truly like, and create an experience that’s personal and intentional.”
No matter where she’s sending her clients, Angie always offers one key piece of advice: “Make sure to get lost! Roam down the streets, go into the restaurant that smells the best. Experience everything and anything you can.”
This year alone, Angie has traveled to Italy twice and recently returned from Israel. “Having things you’ve only read about in books come to life is incredible,” she says. "It’s one thing to read about it and another
to experience it. Walking through history is a profound experience,” she shares.
As the holidays approach, Angie knows that travel can be both joyful and stressful. Her biggest piece of advice? Plan ahead. “Book holiday travel early,” she emphasizes. “It’s one of the most expensive times to travel, and deals are slim. The earlier you book, the more likely you are to get the flights, experiences, and hotels you’re hoping for.”
Last Christmas, Angie had the opportunity to take a Christmas Markets cruise. “We started in Vienna and took a train to Prague. It was like we were living in a snowglobe. We heard stories about the Christmas angels from the locals, and experienced how other cultures experience the holidays with their families.”
When it comes to recommending destinations for the festive season, Angie recommends

Costa Rica
Costa Rica. “Costa Rica will always be one of my favorite places,” she says. “It’s amazing for families. You’re surrounded by so much adventure and natural beauty.” For those who want to bring a touch of home to their holiday getaway, Angie can make that happen, too. “We can arrange to have a Christmas tree and stockings set up in your villa so you can carry a bit of home with you wherever you go.”
For travelers who prefer to stay closer to home, Angie suggests one timeless destination: New York City. “There’s nothing quite like New York at Christmas,” she says with a smile. “Snuggling up with those you love, walking through the city with a cozy scarf and big coat, and taking in the lights and decorations, it’s truly magical.”
Some of her favorite client memories are rooted in these personalized touches. “I have a couple who love the movie Home Alone, and
they’ve spent time in New York recreating iconic moments from the film,” she shares. “Now they’re expecting their first child and plan to return one day to relive those memories as a family. I love making experiences like that come true.”
For Angie, every trip she plans is built on trust and intention. “I really want to get to know each family so I can create memorable, meaningful experiences,” she says. “It’s a relationship. You’re investing your time and money into travel, and I want to make sure every second is worth it.”
At the heart of Angie’s approach is a belief in travel as a deeply personal, transformative experience. “I want you to have authentic experiences when you travel,” she says. “Be brave! Connect to the people, the culture, and the purpose behind your journey. And remember, I’m here every step of the way.”

With deep Texas roots and faithbased, steadfast leadership, Stevenson Oaks offers a bright future to those who call it home.
