We’ve rounded up the coolest kids camp as well as some great crafts for you and the kiddos! We have also highlighted some young entrepreneurs (ages 7 and 10) who have recently started up their own business. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from living in Fort Worth, it’s that we sure do love our pets! This issue also highlights some of the best dog grooming and boarding for our furry friends. Also, be sure to check out a special dog who holds an important title as Chief Happiness Officer. As summer winds down and we prepare for another school year ahead, we remind you to take the time and enjoy some quality time with your kids—and pets—this month. AROUND TOWN With the 2021 John Sasso National Community Development Week Award, NCDA recognized Fort Worth’s marketing and social media efforts. The campaign highlighted the programs and services as well as community development projects undertaken over the last year utilizing CDBG and HOME funds, including park improvements, multifamily housing developments and social service programs. There are multiple camps offered for kids of all ages and experience levels. Those camps include Little Dogies Camp, an introduction to sailing and water sports for kids 4-7 employing games, activities and other instructions to “prepare them to be confident when entering the mainstream FWBC Summer Sailing programs.” The Opti Learn To Sail Camp, for kids ages 8 to 17 who weigh 120 pounds or less and “just want to have fun.” The camp covers sailing fundamentals. GLAMOUR PAWS & THE PAW PAD (CONTINUED)

The Paw Pad is also a hub for family-friendly events. Every third Thursday of the month, there is a Yappy Hour. Families can bring their dogs and kids, it’s BYOB, there’s a raffle, and they’re hoping to expand with more vendors and food trucks in the future. They have a Barktober event with a pet costume contest, and twice a year there will be a weenie dog race! Charlene is also busy organizing new events for 2021, like a Doodle Dash and a neighborhood Pup Crawl. “We’ve been trying to bring the community together,” says Baxter. What makes Glamour Paws and The Paw Pad different from other grooming and dog care companies? Charlene says it’s all about the customer service and the level of knowledge in her staff. “We treat customers like family,” she says. Plus, “everything we bring into the store, as far as food and treats, are all-natural products; you won’t find them in big box stores. I do a lot of research to make sure we’re getting the right products for our customers. We also do food training with the staff, and once a year we do training seminars for the groomers.” Charlene’s business has grown at an impressive rate in five years. The first location only had three employees, and now in 2021, there are 37. C.R. Paws Mobile Grooming is still in operation, now with three vans and six groomers. “I have a good work ethic,” says Baxter. “And my son helped a lot. He pushed me to do better.” The business hasn’t been without its challenges though, the biggest being running one business while building another during COVID. “Sometimes you sit back and think, did I really do all this? And other times you sit back and think, why am I doing this? But I love it.” For more information visit glamourpawsonline.com or pawpads.com.

FUN PAPER CRAFT PROJECTS FOR YOU + YOUR KIDDO ARTICLE NICOLETTE MARTIN

SEARCHING FOR WAYS TO GET SOME QUALITY TIME IN WITH YOUR KIDS (AND KEEP THEM BUSY)? Put down the tablet and bust out the toolbox—the craft toolbox, that is...we don’t condone giving power tools to children. When you’re looking for some productive indoor time to spend while empowering your little ones’ imaginations, consider these easy (but we can’t promise mess-free!) projects you can create with a few standard supplies and a lot of creativity.

+ Cardboard + White crepe paper + Construction paper + Glue + Scissors + Beads, yarn, pom poms, etc.

DIRECTIONS 1. Take your cardboard and cut two pieces into the shape of a llama (we found a stencil online). Then, cut strips of cardboard the depth you want your llama to be. You’ll connect these to either side of the llama cutouts to enclose your piñata. 2. Glue your strip of cardboard all along the edge of one side of your llama, then glue to the other side. (Be sure to leave a hole you can close up later so you can fill it with your favorite candy!) 3. Starting at the neck, cover the front, back and sides of your llama with white crepe paper, cutting a slit every half inch or so to create the traditional piñata look. 4. Cover all remaining sides the neck and head with white construction paper, cut to fit your design. 5. Using construction paper, beads, pom poms, tassels, buttons, etc., add some flair to the rest of your llama! Bonus points for incorporating different shapes and textures into your final product.

Fruit driven and well suited for any occasion.

WHAT’S HER FAVORITE TRICK? She isn’t really a fan of doing tricks, but she will entertain us because she knows she will get a treat out of the deal.

WHERE CAN YOU FIND HER? She usually travels to all of the facilities, so you can’t find her at any specific location, but she tries to make it to all TotalCare facilities fairly regularly.

WHAT’S HER FAVORITE TREAT? Bailey likes all foods, but the funniest thing about her, is that she likes to eat pretty healthy foods. Some of her favorite snacks are apples and carrots. She will
