Fall Into Your Style There’s something about September that feels like a fresh start. The kids are back in school, every food and beverage item imaginable offers a pumpkin option, football returns and the hint of fall weather can be felt in the air. It’s a season of transition, and with that often comes a chance to refresh: our schedules, ourselves and our wardrobe. Our Style issue is all about celebrating the many ways we express who we are, from the clothes and accessories we wear to the confidence we carry. Style is about more than labels, it's embracing what makes you feel your best. In this issue, you’ll find inspiration from local businesses, national style icons and a wide variety of cultures that are here in our community. As I was cleaning out my closet recently, I came across an album of photos from the ’80s. Let’s just say there were some questionable fashion choices—from my permed hair to pink pastel corduroys (it wasn’t just neon in the ’80s, pastels had their moment too), feather hair barrettes, stirrup pants and so much more. It made me laugh, but it also reminded me how style tells the story of each season of our lives. One day our kids will look back at what they wore in the 2020s and be equally horrified that they ever left the house wearing “that.” As we step into fall, I hope this issue inspires you to embrace your own unique style, try something new and support the local businesses helping our community look and feel its best.

OF FASHION One day in 2012, Rebecca Reed picked up a pencil and watercolors, sat down and began drawing and painting with a laser focus on fashion. She produced stacks of paper featuring mostly dresses and occasionally accessories, each one different from the last. CONTINUED >

Once the drawings started, they didn’t stop. Rebecca’s mother, Jenny Reed, who has a degree in fashion merchandising, had some of the drawings beautifully matted and framed, but there were so many that she wasn’t quite sure what to do with all of them. “A visit from my former college roommate, who is now an art therapy instructor, was the beginning of turning those paintings into greeting cards and gift bags,” explains Jenny. Because of the work and dexterity required to turn the art into cards and bags, Rebecca’s ClothesLine has become a mother-daughter project, one that they clearly adore doing together. “I feel happy and useful, and I love accomplishing something,” enthuses Rebecca. “I also like sharing the experience with my mom.” Jenny adds, “I love how each design is unique and how proud Rebecca is of her work. When I finish an item, I hate to part with it!” Rebecca has Down syndrome, but she is very independent and enjoys connecting with her customers. “Making money isn’t the top priority,” says Jenny. “For Rebecca, meeting and interacting with her customers and receiving compliments and encouragement on her work is the most important part.”

When asked what her dreams are for her drawings and development as an artist, Rebecca doesn’t miss a beat. “I really just want my work to be noticed,” she says with a smile and a sparkle in her eyes. She is well on her way. Rebecca has loyal customer friends, sells occasionally at craft events and a curated selection of her work is available for purchase at Inside Out Studio in Hamilton, where she is an art student. Rebecca and Jenny have recently expanded their product line to include bookmarks, which have become a popular item. Rebecca finds inspiration in thick fashion tomes she checks out from the library, the pages of fashion magazines and clothing catalogs and style-focused movies like “The Devil Wears Prada” (both one and two, she is quick to point out), “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” and “Cruella,” plus TV shows like “Making the Cut” and “Project Runway.” Her preferred medium is watercolor, and she combines standard colors with pearlescent watercolor paints for the patterns and designs on the dresses. Rebecca’s precise, swooping lines are reminiscent of drawings from a Parisian designer’s sketchbook, and the dresses feature a wide range of thoughtfully chosen color palettes that favor feminine pastels. For her part, Jenny carefully cuts out the drawings and affixes them to gift bags and card stock for greeting cards and thick water color paper for bookmarks. She adds delicate details, outlines with glitter and attaches shimmering ribbons. Each item is unique and infused with the love and care they take to create them. For those interested in viewing and purchasing Rebecca’s ClothesLine products, Rebecca and Jenny plan to host open house “Show and Sells” at their West Chester Township residence twice a year. Some clothes are made to be worn. Others are made to be lived in. For Abby Farr, the difference begins with how a piece moves, feels and fits into everyday life. “When I design, I’m thinking about how it will actually function for the person wearing it,” she explains. “It flows, is easy to care for and the luxurious softness makes the wearer feel good.” That philosophy is at the heart of Tillage Clothing, her thoughtfully designed line that blends elevated style with everyday comfort, all while quietly carrying a deeper purpose. Abby, a Cincinnati native, has built more than a brand. Through Tillage, she’s created something both practical and personal, where intentional design meets a meaningful mission. The dream began years ago in Southern California. Working as a nanny, Abby found herself frustrated by clothing that didn’t quite fit her lifestyle—too tight, too restrictive, lacking function. Living near the ocean, she began imagining something different. “You could say the ocean helped inspire the design,” she says. What emerged became the foundation of Tillage: elevated athleisure designed for movement, comfort and everyday life. Her signature pieces, especially the cozy camper pants, are known for their buttery-soft feel, deep pockets and relaxed non-compression fit.

However, comfort was only one part of the vision. Abby had been drawn to fashion, not for its trends, but for its transformation. Taking the artistry of high fashion and reshaping them into something people could actually live in. The name Tillage arrived just as organically. While home in Cincinnati one Christmas, Abby found herself flipping through a collection of Ralph Waldo Emerson essays that had belonged to her mother. One line about “tilling the land” caught her attention. And it stayed with her. “It felt like more than just a name,” Abby explains. “It captured the idea of cultivating something meaningful, from the way each piece is made to the greater purpose behind it.” That sense of purpose had already been growing in her life for years. Since her mid-twenties, Abby has felt a deep pull toward fighting human trafficking, a cause that would later shape the direction of her business. “Learning about these girls broke my heart,” she recalls. “I have never been able to let the issue go.” That conviction eventually became the foundation of Tillage’s mission: To lead the movement against human trafficking in the U.S. by creating comfortable, ethically-sourced apparel... because consumers deserve to know how their clothes are made CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . and have the opportunity to help make a difference whenever they shop. Today, every Tillage purchase gives back to organizations working directly with survivors, helping women move from crisis into safe, restorative environments where they can begin again. The mission also shapes how each piece is made, with fabrics thoughtfully sourced and garments sewn in the United States to ensure fair wages and ethical conditions. “It holds me accountable to who is sewing the clothes, and how things are sourced,” Abby notes. Still, it’s at her pop-ups where the brand truly comes to life. “They make me feel like an old-fashioned tentmaker who would set up shop where the people are,” she says with her easy laugh. Abby’s schedule is full this fall. And centered around in-person moments that often turn meaningful. “I love cultivating authentic conversations where barriers are broken down,” she shares with sincerity and conviction. Sometimes, those conversations come full circle. At a recent event, a customer revealed she was a survivor of trafficking, connected to the very organization Tillage supports. Now as Tillage approaches its 10-year anniversary, the brand continues to evolve...slowly and intentionally. A recently launched hoodie line (made in Ohio) has already become a fan favorite. And Abby is looking ahead to future designs, including a wide-leg pant planned for next spring. She also hopes to expand into new cities, increase sustainable sourcing and raise the percentage each purchase gives back, currently at five percent with plans to reach ten. Her long-term vision is clear. “I really want to be known as having the best travel clothes ever,” she says. Clothing that moves, adapts and endures, just like the people who wear it. If you want to truly know someone, don’t look at what they wear, look at what they carry. Often, getting dressed is governed by a quiet set of rules: what’s appropriate for the office, what’s expected at a dinner party. Accessories, by contrast, remain untouched by these unspoken social rules. The handbag you reach for each morning is one of the few style decisions made entirely on intuition—a small, daily act of self-expression, unbound by convention. Few designers understand that creative freedom as intimately as Timmy Woods. Born and raised in Beverly Hills to parents in the real estate industry, Timmy was constantly surrounded by inspiration and design. Sitting in the backseat of her parent’s car, she would tag along to appointments and meetings, often finding herself drawing in a sketchbook or shaping natural materials in the backyard into small designs. Those years shadowing her parents instilled two lessons: the discipline of hard work and the rarer skill of recognizing beauty before it’s fully developed. What many might have discounted as childhood whimsy became the launch pad of her career, an instinct that took her from a sketchpad to the red carpets and closets of Hollywood. In 1975, Timmy Woods Beverly Hills was born, blending glamour and old-world craftsmanship— not out of formal training, but natural creativity. Timmy crafted her first leather bags entirely by hand, cutting the leather with scissors, and bringing them to New York City, where they landed at Bendel’s, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s. Bloomingdale’s later honored the collection with its own window display, a moment that would mark Timmy’s career as proof of what she’s always believed: that true creativity, paired with courage, can transcend experience. When American costume designer and stylist Patricia Field spotted one of Timmy’s designs, it wasn’t long until the rest of the world knew the luxury boutique brand. First came the pop-culture debut of the now-iconic Eiffel Tower handbag that Sarah Jessica Parker carried as Carrie Bradshaw in the 2008 Sex and the City film, which would later make its reprise in 2022’s And Just Like That. more than 7,000 Swarovski crystals, the landmark bag ignited a cultural moment. Legacy publications like Elle, and countless corners of the internet, asked the same question in unison, “Where can I find Carrie Bradshaw’s Eiffel Tower bag?” The spotlight didn’t stop there. Timmy found further recognition when Heidi Klum held the designer’s playful Luscious Lips bag inside the glossy pages of 2009 German Vogue. Since then her designs have stayed in steady rotation among stylists and collectors—all of them drawn to the true intention behind her designs: pieces that aren’t just accessories but conversation starters and works of art. While the fashion industry tends to favor mass production of products, Timmy’s designs celebrate what happens when you appreciate patience instead. Her belief that maximalism and craftsmanship were never meant to compete, but rather to work as two ingredients of the same designs, has led to one-of-a-kind luxury bags that are less about seasonal purchases and more about small investments of permanence. That belief runs through her aptly named Art to Wear collection, where an onyx oval clutch is adorned with a hand-carved, crystal-embellished orchid in full bloom, or in an intricately beaded typewriter-shaped bag. Each piece reminds the wearer that boldness and craftsmanship aren’t opposing forces but complementary ones. In a more understated approach, her Naturals collection takes sustainably sourced, fallen acacia wood and turns it into handcarved bags. Each grain and knot is left visible, making every piece inherently one of a kind. From an event-ready clutch to a handbag that draws inspiration from the temples of Kyoto, these pieces aren’t simply accessories meant to be used and replaced, but heirlooms to be passed from one generation to the next. It’s in the tension between eye-catching glamour and streamlined beauty that Timmy’s true ethos and inspiration can be found: the world itself and the people who reside in it. Each piece captures the countries she has wandered and the cultures whose presence have found their way into the textures and patterns of her designs. That reverence extends well past Timmy’s workshop, channeled into giving back to the communities she has visited: street lighting in Laguna, a village in the Philippines or helping support a local reforestation project. For Timmy, legacy isn’t something fixed or finite, it’s measured by what we give and the lives we are able to touch along the way.
