Curated Grain Collection

Treasured Grove Collection

Hardwood salvaged from a historic Alabama home; old-growth white oak with an open grain that harks back to a bygone era; barnwood with a century’s worth of hard work, sweat, and tears imprinted in the grains.

Logs that have slumbered for centuries in the mineral-rich waters of the Great Lakes; fallen old-growth trees remarkably shielded from the elements; vintage barn beams weathered to perfection by years of rain, wind, and sunshine.

LEARN HOW CLOSETS BY DESIGN CAN TAKE YOUR GARAGE ORGANIZATION AND STORAGE TO THE NEXT LEVEL

THIS IMPRESSIVE GARAGE PROJECT BEGAN LAST YEAR AS A REQUEST FROM THE HOMEOWNER’S SON TO CREATE AN AT-HOME GYM. They needed to free up space in the basement by shifting some storage to the garage. So, they reached out to Closets by Design (CBD) to accomplish their organizational goals while also upgrading the look of the garage. A year later, the space looks just as clean and organized as the day it was finished, and the owner’s son is happily using his home gym.

DESIGN AND INSTALLATION A designer from CBD meets with the client to discuss their storage needs. “We identify obstacles and work with the homeowner to design a storage solution that fits their space and works best for them,” says CBD Project Designer Trey Wight. After the customer approves the designs, cabinets are built at their factory. Next, the installation team sets up the space per the approved drawings.

2 STORAGE SOLUTIONS “Clients are typically looking for garage storage solutions to accommodate belongings such as lawn and garden equipment, sporting goods and holiday decor,” explains Trey. “We use a combination of cabinets and DesignWall systems to store or hang the customer’s items.”

3 WALL ORGANIZATION The DesignWall is a great way to save space by hanging lawn tools, small power-tools, sporting goods and hoses or extension cords. Available in several colors and with accessories like hooks and baskets that allow for hanging just about anything, the DesignWall hanging storage system featured in this garage is in Grey. Cabinets are fully customizable to fit the client’s space and store a variety of items. The floor-based systems use legs with leveling adjusters to compensate for uneven floors. The cabinets are leveled and then attached to the wall for greater stability. All cabinets are built with shelves strengthened with metal supports to hold heavier items. RENOVATE & REFINE

SIMPLE T R A N S F O R M AT I O N THIS YEAR WE ARE REALLY LIVING IN OUR LIVING ROOMS, SO IT’S IMPORTANT TO MAKE IT A SPACE WE LOVE. In need of a refresh, but don’t want to invest in new furniture? Enlist the help of Helen Wright, interior designer and owner of Interiors Plus in Mason. She can give your home a total makeover, but a simple change of paint and accessories can completely transform a space. “You can change the entire look of a room just by changing accessories,” says Helen. “It’s like dressing yourself—you put your earrings on, your necklace on, to make your basic dress look nicer, make it look complete. It’s the same thing with a room. You’re dressing your room to make it complete.”

UPDATED COLOR PALETTE

Beige walls and rust-colored accessories in this home felt dated and dark. By switching to a gray color scheme, the whole room becomes brighter and more modern. Wall color: “Knitting Needles” from Sherwin Williams. “Gray is a good neutral and you can put a lot with it,” says Helen.

FLOWER POWER

A custom-made silk flower arrangement gives the opportunity to tie in all the colors in a room while adding height and visual interest to a mantle. “I can’t keep a thing alive,” Helen says with a laugh, “so that’s why I have silks in my house. It also gives you some texture, some greens and something to absorb the sound in the room.” CONTINUED >

LIGHT

A stylish lamp adds more light for reading, puzzles and family games. “With all these high ceilings, there’s not adequate light for tasks that you’re performing at a lower level,” Helen advises. “Can lights are great for tall ceilings, but not for tasks.”

CUSTOM WINDOW TREATMENTS

Go custom: pick a fabric you love and get professionally crafted curtains to perfectly fit your space and style. “It’s easier to make something to fit with your room, your personality and your style than just going and buying something that’s pre-made,” says Helen. “Professional window treatments add a more refined look to your room.”

THREE-DIMENSIONAL ARTWORK

“Art with texture and dimension brings some depth to the room so not everything is flat,” says Helen. “It makes the room more interesting.”

LOCAL LIMELIGHT (CONTINUED)

“Blake even put some money into Carson’s college education fund. That was a really nice surprise!” says proud papa Jason. “I’m really proud of him,” Jason says of Carson. “It was his goal to be on ‘Shark Tank’ and his goal to have products that are successful. He has really worked hard to get to this point. It’s really starting to take off right now.” More hard work is ahead for this successful duo, as they continue to develop the product and make connections to promote it. The Touch Up Cup is for sale from their website, on Amazon and at local hardware and other retail stores. “We just did a redesign of our agitator and our whole packaging,” Carson says. “We are getting into Walmart locations with an end cap,” he adds, eyebrows raised hopefully. This young business leader offers his advice for other inventors and entrepreneurs. “If you have ideas, write them down,” advises Carson. “You never know where it’s going to go.” You, too, could go swimming with the sharks.

Don’t miss “Good Morning America’s Deals & Steals” airing on March 11, featuring the Touch Up Cup and other Grill products. View their full “Shark Tank” pitch, episode one of Season 12, online. ABC.com, TouchUpCup.com

REFRESH TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS AT KITCHEN TUNE-UP

SO MUCH OF OUR HOME LIVES HAPPEN IN THE KITCHEN. 2021 is a great year to tackle a new kitchen project or make plans for renovations to spruce up your cooking space. Whether you want a small change or a major addition, the owners of Kitchen Tune-Up of West Chester and Mason, Matt and Laura Fields, have great advice on what’s trending in kitchen design.

WHITE CABINETS

Clean, simple lines and framing are a style popularized on home design television shows. White cabinets offer the advantage of brightening your space. “Many people comment that a lighter kitchen also

feels larger and more open,” says Matt.

Even if you’ve got excellent overhead lighting, consider the popular additions of under-cabinet lighting or lighting above a sink or stove. “These lights help you really see what you’re doing in those particular areas,” says Laura.

CUSTOMIZED ISLANDS

New kitchen islands can be anything you want, since they are usually the easiest spot in the kitchen to access and modify. “The most popular island design is storage and seating, with cabinets and a large countertop to accommodate bar seating,” Matt says.
