e were exactly 25 hours into summer vacation when my 9-year-old first uttered the words, “Mom, there’s nothing to do.” If you’ve also heard these words or felt them yourself, we have some great ideas for you inside this issue of West Chester & Liberty Lifestyle. We are fortunate that our suburbs of West Chester and Liberty are situated just a short drive from downtown Cincinnati, which is overflowing with beautiful scenery and fun, free outdoor activities. Seven Liberty Township girls just returned from competing with their Oxford-based equestrian team at Nationals for the Interscholastic Equestrian Association. We also talk with the Lakota West baseball team, which made it to State this year for the first time in nearly a decade. Congratulations to both of these teams for their great seasons! When I think of beautiful, outdoor living spaces, the first place that comes to mind is Carriage Hill. This unique master-planned Liberty Township community is helping to bring back multigenerational living. May 5 was the eighteenth annual Cinco de Mayo Party hosted by Judge Rob Lyons of Lyons & Lyons,Â and his family at their West Chester home. Guests included Congressman Warren Davidson. The fiesta provided a fun atmosphere for all.

Shortly before graduation day, graduating high school seniors, dressed in their caps and gowns, paraded past cheering elementary-aged students who lined the halls of their school. PRO WAKEBOARD TOUR RIDES INTO WEST CHESTER The Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour, the longest-running professional wakeboard competition, will visit West Chester this summer as part of its 25th-anniversary season. Voice of America MetroPark will host the final stop of the tour on August 12. According to the Butler County Visitors Bureau, the event will bring an estimated economic impact of $150,000 to the region and feature the top 16 professional men wakeboarders in the world competing for the coveted world championship. In addition to high-flying wakeboard action, the tour will bring one of the hottest up-and-coming sports in North America to West Chester. Wakesurfing—riding the boat’s wake without the help of a towrope—saw an astonishing 30 percent year-over-year growth from 2012 to 2015. The event at VOA will be open to the public with tickets just $5 for each person ages six and up. GetToTheBC.com

LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STOCK MARKET GAME TEAMS WIN BIG Two of Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School’s (MTCES) Stock Market Game teams won first and second place among all middle school teams in the state of Ohio. First place team Bubble Guppy advanced to the Portfolio Challenge at the University of Cincinnati where they won and received an all-expense paid trip to New York City. The Stock Market Game is a year-long competition among regional schools using online market simulation allowing students to manage a virtual stock portfolio with real-time data. a modern-day weekend in Butler County. The young women of the Honey Tree Stables Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Team work and laugh together, a team of confident equestrians, a sisterhood. Twelve local teens make up the team, spanning grades six through twelve. Honey Tree Stables of Oxford has hosted the team for two years, competing with IEA around the country from September to May. IEA competitions are uniquely equalized. No rider is required to own a horse; horses from each show’s host barn are selected by random draw among competitors. Riders and horses work through a course of jumps together within minutes of when they are introduced. Contestants are judged on their horsemanship and how they handle a horse that is new to them. Under the direction of coaches Sarah Oelerich and Laura Kursman, the team ended this season with a rank in the top 22 of nearly 600 teams at Nationals in Lexington, Virginia. As they mingle with one another and the horses, the team exhibits a noticeable camaraderie. Although they compete against each other individually, they work together as a team with mutual trust, respect and friendship. “At the end of the day, they need each other to do well. That’s how they got to Nationals. It wasn’t one person, it was everyone—everyone bringing their game to succeed, “ explains Oelerich, team coach and owner of Honey Tree Stables. “The team is like a second family,” says team member Victoria Lake of Oxford. “My teammates act like sisters to me,” agrees Angylynn Kiss of Liberty Township. “We came to Honey Tree for a lesson and I really liked it here. It was like coming home.” Lauren Obermeyer started riding at age seven, when her mom sent her to horse camp against her wishes. The Fairfield graduate is now off to the University of Findlay this fall where she will continue competing at the college level. “This is my barn family. Honey Tree is home!” Obermeyer says, arms wide in a gesture to the rolling hills around her. “The team is only two years old and has already accomplished so much,” she adds. “I am bummed I don’t get to watch these middle school girls. When they get to high school, they are going to kill it!” Competition brings more than horsemanship skills. In preparation for the arena, these young women learn life lessons. CONTINUED >

Oelerich agrees. “Think of how these skills transfer into the schoolyard. It’s hard to be bullied when it just doesn’t work on you. Confidence is key.” GG Dombrowski of Liberty Township is one of the Nationals competitors on the middle school team. “I have learned a lot from Sarah and Laura,” Dombrowski says. “I am excited for next year on the high school team.” Dombrowski’s parents, Dean and Paula Dombrowski, are equally as excited.

Oelerich took ownership from her father in 1999. She lives a legacy of deep love and understanding of equines. When Jeff and Diana Godsey moved their family of four to Carriage Hill in 2014, they hoped Jeff’s parents—Jeff and Kathy Godsey— wouldn’t be far behind. Sure enough, the Godsey grandparents moved to the patio home section of Carriage Hill this past May to be closer to their children and grandchildren. “When Jeff's parents made the decision to move to Carriage Hill, we were absolutely thrilled,” Diana says of her in-laws. “Carriage Hill encourages an active lifestyle and we have the opportunity to do activities together as a family. It is also comforting to know that if anyone needs anything or if there’s an emergency, we live close enough to help each other out.” Creating a multigenerational neighborhood was always part of the Terry family’s plan when they began developing Carriage Hill in 2009. “We wanted to create the type of family environment that we experienced living on the property with Mom and Dad and raising our children,” says Randy Terry. “It really is unlike any other community in greater Cincinnati and South Dayton,” says Patty Terry, Randy’s wife, who serves as Administrator and Marketing Director. “Our vision was to take what the land really gave us and form it into a community,” Todd adds. “We didn’t want to knock down the trees and start from the ground up like most new neighborhoods do.” Carriage Hill’s master planned community offers single-family estate homes and grand estate homes, as well as maintenance-free patio and courtyard homes, perfect for a variety of age groups and multiple generations. With clubhouses and pools, community parks, planned social activities, more than 80 acres of open space and miles of sidewalks and walking trails, the neighborhood keeps its residents busy—young and old alike. “We love that Carriage Hill is a master planned community. There’s an abundance of green space, walking trails and fishing ponds,” Diana explains. “Our children enjoy riding their bikes and going down to the creek to throw rocks. They love swimming at the pool and playing at the playground. They are able to ride their bikes to their grandparents’ house, and because they live so close, their grandparents are very active in our children’s lives.” In 2008, the Terry’s began looking at plans and exploring the zoning process to prepare Carriage Hill for a long-term 450acre development plan. Now in its seventh year, Carriage Hill is not slowing down anytime soon. New this year is the Terry Gatehouse, an adult-only clubhouse and pool, a Shooters Sports Grill, several new neighborhoods and many new estate and patio homes. More than 200 families currently live in Carriage Hill and nearly 250 more will move in during the next few years. “There was quite a pent up demand after the market crash in 2009,” Todd says. “We’re looking forward to welcoming more families to the neighborhood.” Patty adds, “The people who live here want to live in nice homes in a very friendly community governed by standards. There is an understated elegance about Carriage Hill.” Indeed, it’s this understated elegance that has attracted so many families to the neighborhood thus far. “As you travel throughout the neighborhood, you encounter stone bridges, creeks and mature trees,” Diana says. “Jeff and I love how friendly the neighborhood is and how the neighbors look out for one another.” Diana reflects on their decision to move to Carriage Hill with a sense of gratefulness, thankful that her children live so close to one set of their grandparents. “We truly believe that Carriage Hill promotes family values with multigenerational living,” Diana says. She adds, “In fact, my parents, who live out-of-state, find this community to be so unique that they are also considering a move to Carriage Hill.”
