So, how do you narrow down so many wonderful local businesses to what our readers consider “the best of the best”? The process began in August when we asked readers to nominate their favorite businesses across 40 categories. The top five nominations in each category then moved on to the voting round of the competition. The voting website was announced in September's Fall Fashion issue, when nearly 4,000 readers voted to select their favorites in everything ranging from restaurants to doctors to mechanics. During our second anniversary celebration in November, we announced the winners of the Readers’ Choice Awards. Now, inside this special issue, we’re excited to share the results with our faithful readers. Thank you to all who participated in the nomination and voting rounds! Your involvement enabled these awards to truly represent the opinions of our readers. Don’t worry if you missed the chance to vote this year. Due to the overwhelming response, we’ll be bringing the awards back on an annual basis, and we’ll even be adding some new categories next year. Look for the nomination round to take place in the fall of 2018. Our winner for Best Casual Dining, Troy’s Café, is helping us get ready for the holidays by sharing some delicious recipes perfect for entertaining this season. Inside we also have a step-by-step guide for how to reuse your ribbons (the ones that get crumbled in a box year after year!) to create a beautiful and unique wreath. This time of year is perfect for celebrating with family and friends, but there are many local families and children who are struggling financially. WEST CHESTER RECEIVES FIFTH CONSECUTIVE AUDITOR OF STATE AWARD WITH DISTINCTION For a fifth consecutive year, West Chester Township received the Ohio Auditor of State Award with Distinction. Ryan Holiday, southwest regional liaison for Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost, presented the award for the 2016 audit year at the October 10 Board of Trustees meeting. “It is important to note that this award puts West Chester Township in a very select group,” Holiday said. “Fewer than five percent of all entities that are audited annually earn and are eligible for this award.” To be eligible for the award, entities must meet specific criteria upon filing a timely and accurate Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) with the State’s office. CHICKEN WITH BACON GARLIC MUSHROOM SAUCE INGREDIENTS:

• 4 6-8 oz. chicken breasts • 1 cup cream • 2 cups chicken stock • 4 cloves garlic, minced • 12 oz. shiitake and portobello mushrooms • 8 oz. diced bacon, not cooked • 2 tbsp. chopped parsley • 2 tbsp. corn starch • ¼ cup cold water • Salt and pepper to taste DIRECTIONS:

1. In a large sauté pan start cooking diced bacon until crispy. 2. Take bacon out of the pan but leave bacon grease in. 3. Pan fry chicken breast in the bacon grease until golden brown on both sides. 4. Transfer chicken to a baking pan and cook in the oven at 350 degrees until done. 5. While the chicken is baking, add the garlic and mushrooms to the pan with bacon grease and sauté. 6. When the mushrooms become soft add the bacon back to the pan. 7. Then add chicken stock and cream. When it comes to a boil, combine corn starch and cold water, then add slowly to boiling liquid to thicken. Finish with salt, pepper and parsley. 8. Add the cooked chicken back to the sauce and let marry for 5-7 minutes on a low heat. 20

How to Make a Ribbon Wreath

YOU WILL NEED: • A 14” straw or Styrofoam wreath form found at floral and craft stores • Around 12 yards each of 4 different but coordinating ribbons of varying widths and textures • A chenille stem to make the hanger, found at craft stores (looks like a pipe cleaner) • About 50 to 75 fern pins, found at floral and craft stores (looks like a long staple or hairpin)

Next, twist the chenille stem around the wreath to form a hanger (Fig. 3). Now, create several bows of various ribbons, with the loops being about the same size. Leave the tie ends as single “tails” and cut the loose ends into a swallow tail. You may also create single loops and tails to fill in between bows (Fig. 4).
