I'd like to introduce you to my two favorite cats: Reacher and Rexie. They're my personal pets, and they represent a feline breed that many people have never heard about or seen in-person. In this edition, we share a bit about them as Cornish Rex cats and their special type of fur. I enjoy how athletic and affectionate they are. Thanks to a woman named Nina Ennismore and her kitten she called Kallibunker, we now love the breed she discovered 71 years ago in England. This month, we toast a whole-hearted cheers to a new microbrewery and their unwavering dedication to reflecting the history of our region through their ambiance, beers and community support. We also peek into the fast-paced world of public relations and how one team is "Philly based, not bound." Looking for a landscaping team to design your own outdoor, gathering haven? Then please turn to page 34, and again at the example of Dean's Landscaping on this issue's cover.

POLICE ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP AIDS PERSONS OF COLOR IN BECOMING OFFICERS Brian Woodard became the second recipient of a Municipal Police Academy scholarship, a program created by Pennsylvania's Act 120 as a result of the Black Lives Matter march with 4,000 people at Chester County Courthouse June 4, 2020. A graduate of Philadelphia's Franklin Learning Center and a father of two sons, Brian was accepted at Delaware County Community College's Municipal Police Academy and began full-time courses in July. He works in security for the Phoenixville Area School District, and says he has always wanted to become a law enforcement officer.
WEST CHESTER CHAMBER RENAMES FORMER PRESIDENT WALKER TO ROLE Katie Walker, who served as Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce president from 2005 to 2012, took the role again for the Chamber, effective June 14. She replaced Shannon Royer, who became the director of legislative and external affairs for Main Line Health.
Experts indicate the much loathed spotted lanternflies are worse this year than last. While lanternflies aren't directly dangerous to humans, they are an invasive pest that's destructive to just about all plants in their paths, including trees, vegetables, flowers and crops. Entomologists encourage anyone spotting them to smash them, spray them with insecticidal soap, capture them in a bottle, collect them with a shop vac, wrap trees with sticky or duct tape, and spray weeds with vinegar. Milkweed is poisonous to this insect, so helps. Photo credit: National Park Service

You state that you’re in the business of building relationships. During the COVID-19 pandemic, what new strategies did you use to keep relationships going? In the beginning of the pandemic, we started an Instagram live series called "On The Stoop," where I interviewed guests live on Instagram from my stoop in South Philly. TREND SETTER (CONTINUED)
As a public speaker about the importance of networking, what do you think most people get wrong about networking? What do most people do well when it comes to schmoozing? So, it's not just about networking, it's about the follow up. If you met a great connection at an event, did you send them a follow up email? Connect with them on LinkedIn? Follow them on Instagram? Yes, it's a lot of work, but you made an effort to meet them. Don't forget the importance of following up.
Social media has been called the new department store this year. What's your favorite part about social media? I love learning about new products, companies and individuals doing good things in the world that I might not have discovered. TikTok is actually great for that.
As a result of social movements that the U.S. (and the world) experienced in 2020, people are more culturally aware than ever before. Consumers are analyzing the companies they do business with to see what their stance is on public issues, which often thrusts companies' spokespersons or executives into the limelight. What leadership qualities do you look for in potential clients? I try to only work with companies that I connect with. To publicize your client the right way, you really have to believe in their mission. I learned this early on in my career, and it's a core principle in my company. Believing in who and what you promote motivates you to work harder for them.
Consumers demand authenticity these days. How do you prepare clients to deliver authentic answers to hard questions? Oh yes, I coach my clients on how to answer questions because that's what publicists do, but I always advise them to be true to themselves and tell the truth.
Disinformation is at an all-time high. As a PR pro, how do you take an active role in clarifying and correcting misleading tidbits about your clients? This goes back to connections, if you know the media you know who to reach out to right away if something misleading was published. I work hard however to relay proper information and facts to the media.
Any new services you plan to launch by year's end or next year? We're always looking for ways to expand our services. We're doing more digital marketing campaigns and website designs than ever. It's fun to get the team together to collaborate on creative projects like this. We all enjoy it! Throughout the years, I've seen PR make a major difference in some of the small businesses I helped launch. Seeing a client succeed means so much to me. I also love working with nonprofits and planning events or fundraising campaigns that help expand their mission and cause. With events being back, I'm really looking forward to doing more of this soon. 20

that’s yielded generations of sought-after, Artillery sourdough pizzas, which are cooked in a wood-fired pizza oven. Pizza choices range from Margherita, bacon/onion and pepperoni to mushroom or Mediterranean. There’s also the pulled pork sandwich on a pretzel roll, done the Memphis Style with spicy pickles and slaw on top. “We also sell red, white and brew merchandise, such as shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts,” says Mike. He says they plan to host in September a 5K Run/1-mile Walk event called The Cannonball Run, which will donate a portion of the overall proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project. CREATIVE LANDSCAPE PROJECT AND PLANTINGS COMBINE SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW
THIS AMAZING TRANSFORMATION IN DEVON WAS CREATED BY DEAN’S LANDSCAPING. It includes a spacious, custom paver patio combining a unique “wood plank” floor beneath a detached pavilion with modular-textured paving stone. This outdoor space is enjoyable during days or evenings via multiple interest points. A personalized stone/brick fireplace offers charm and comfort. The outdoor kitchen island and custom-raised Koi pond are both useful and interesting. Two waterfalls appear to originate and disappear into the ground. The lighting system provides beautiful effects, giving the backyard a resort feel. 34
