CHESTER COUNTY HOSPITAL NAMED ONE OF 50 BEST IN AMERICA Chester County Hospital-Penn Medicine, 701 E. Marshall St. in West Chester, was named one of America's top 50 hospitals by national hospital evaluator Healthgrades. Healthgrades is a health provider rating organization that evaluates hospital quality for conditions and procedures based solely on clinical outcomes to help consumers understand, compare and evaluate hospital performance. Chester County Hospital-Penn Medicine earned the Top 50 designation, along with recognition in four specialized areas as one of America's top 100 hospitals in cardiac care, critical care, gastrointestinal care and stroke care. The local hospital also received awards for excellence in general surgery and in pulmonary care. "Chester County Hospital relentlessly pursues new clinical services and higher levels of quality to provide the best care possible for our community. Our workforce has endured many challenges as we opened the largest expansion in our history, moved quickly into fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and administering vaccines, and still sought opportunities to advance the level of care we provide. I am filled with pride and admiration for our staff," says Chester County Hospital President and CEO Michael Duncan.

effort and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefit for the military community. More than 1,200 schools sought Military Friendly designation by participating in the 2021-2022 proprietary survey. Institutions also were evaluated using public data sources. Of the 747 institutions that earned the general designation, only 162 nationally were selected for Gold award status, which is reserved for schools that scored within 10% of the 10th ranking school in their category.

a special tree commonly known as Mountain Gordlinia. He says it’s a cross between a Franklin tree and loblolly bay. This hybrid is a member of the tea family with flowers having a mild sweet fragrance. While Gordlinia has a reputation for being challenging to develop, Dean says it is fast-growing and does bloom in late summer through frost. The Gordlinia actually can be grown as a large, multistemmed shrub or as a small tree. It attracts pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Anyone who would like to know more about how this type of tree is faring in the West Chester area can call Dean at 610.793.2386 or email digtrees@verizon.net.

EALTH, WHOLENESS, SELF-AWARENESS, JOY.

Personal transformation is possible through the choice to con-

nect, or in some cases reconnect, with one’s soul, the part of people that’s already whole. Helping others learn how to live an awakened, heart-centered life is the daily focus of local intuitive energy healer and wellness consultant Allison Prettyman. “Healing sessions address clients’ physical, mental, emotional and spiritual nature. Within sessions, we may combine life coaching, mindfulness, reiki and meditation techniques to facilitate the deepest transformations,” Allison explains.

Connect with your inner self, where infinite peace, healing and joy reside. “Profound healing and joy is possible when we face, with honesty, the blocks we’ve put in our own way. When we risk letting go of fear and victim consciousness, and open ourselves to the power of our heart’s wisdom, a new and vibrant way of living is possible. We all have innate healing wisdom and need to learn how to tap into it.” Allison says the reiki healing technique can aid with headaches, tension, depression, insomnia, pain, fatigue and mood swings. Her services can be grouped in three areas: + Energy Healing:

Energy healing sessions work directly with individuals’ energy field to restore harmony. + Healing for Cancer Care: For those with a cancer diagnosis, Allison says energy healing can help reduce uncomfortable symptoms one may experience with cancer treatment, such as anxiety, weakness and nausea. Energy healing also may induce relaxation and balance for those who are in remission after completing cancer treatments, she adds. + Distance Healing: This remote healing radiates healing energy directly to clients through the power of focused intention. “Energy is not bound by time and space, making it easy for healing to be sent at a distance,” says Allison. MEETING CHANGING NEEDS IN HOME INTERIORS

MANY HOMEOWNERS CONTEMPLATE, EVALUATE AND VALUE THEIR HOMES MUCH DIFFERENTLY THAN THEY DID A YEAR AGO. “With your home being the center of your life, it’s the main place where you’re making memories -- now more than ever. Many residences need to function differently now,” says Deborah Bettcher, a Decorating Den Interiors professional based in West Chester. She says she understands how to design spaces for people who are working and learning from home, anchoring multigenerational households, and 22

needing private spaces. “Homes now need to be practical while still being a welcoming retreat.” “You may have never worked with a designer and think you’re not that type. However, you’re just the type that I work with every day,” assures Deb. For example, she recently assisted a widow who longed for a fresh beginning; a biochemist who purchased a brand-new residence and wanted to make it his warm, forever home; a young family who renovated a 90-yearold stone home and desired to combine heirloom with contemporary furniture but lacked time to weave together options; a retiree who was ready for an updated look; and a multigenerational family that needed help creating both common and private spaces within their Chester County farmhouse. ‘THE HOUSE WHISPERER’ (CONTINUED)

Deb says it’s a perfect time to invest in quality furnishings. She says a client recently gleefully told her: “Finally, I have ‘grown up’ furniture!” Among options from her hundreds of furniture suppliers are Americanmade, upholstered seating with performance fabrics that hold up to busy lifestyles or custom details that set them apart. She can help with securing locally sourced solid wood tables or cabinets, too.

West Chester Lifestyle | April 2021

To create distinct areas for adult home offices, student learning spaces, and relaxation, Deb can help with reading nooks, craft rooms, sitting rooms for couples to chat away from other household activities, and luxurious home media rooms in which to gather with family and friends. She

Their tax team works with clients to adjust their financial planning and tax management strategies. Mark says clients with the business pro package receive the same benefits, such as receiving help with completing tax returns, along with other services, such as tax planning, accounting services, entity considerations and advisory services. “We’re here to help clients improve their business,” he assures. Before Mark became the director of Delphi Tax Management Group, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, the biggest accounting firm by size in the world. While there, he says he was surrounded by many knowledgeable people who were dedicated to ensuring everyone on the team was working to the best of their ability. Mark says he was grateful to work with some of the top global financial professionals, but decided to leave because he wanted to work directly with his clients and form meaningful business relationships. “I had experienced those types of relationships with a summer position at Delphi Wealth Management. I reached out to that group and let them know I was ready to start a tax practice that emulated the values of Delphi Wealth Management. The timing was right, and they gave me an opportunity to start Delphi Tax Planning,” he says. Delphi Wealth Management was started by John Kane and Kevin McDermott. John and Kevin are financial planners dedicated to educating individuals about their personal finances. Between the two of them, they have 45 years of experience in financial planning. Luxury Residence SOME WOULD SAY THE STUNNING ONE-OF-A-KIND ESTATE AT 1245 S. CREEK ROAD IN WEST CHESTER IS A MUSEUM-QUALITY WORK OF ART. Others marvel at the ambiance radiated by the private, gated 21-acre lot perched atop a hill overlooking the Brandywine River. Yet others appreciate that this residence offers the most current, automated smart home technology. Regardless of what attribute first catches one’s eye at this 23,956 square feet of finished space, some fortunate new owner is going to benefit from the thoughtful design executed by the home’s current owner, who says he had this masterpiece built using only the finest materials. “This home truly must be experienced to be appreciated,” assures listing agent Rory Burkhart, CEO and associate broker of

The Burkhart Realty Group/Keller Williams Realty – Kennett Square. Sunshine lovers are certainly in luck at this residence, with an abundance of gorgeous windows and skylights. The main focal point is the three-story Super Sky commercial aluminum and glass curved wall that yields a 180-degree view of the land. The five-bedroom home was built in 2007, has 8.5 baths, a huge inground infinity edge pool and a furnished pool house begging for guests. This property package is listed at $8.6 million. A SHOWPIECE INSIDE AND OUT The open floor plan extends throughout the main living area, which welcomes the exterior with more than three-stories of custom glass and panoramic views at every turn. The grand foyer is accented by a dramatic, curved staircase that carries up through three levels. A commercial elevator in the center of the home accesses all four levels. The home includes two fireplaces and a central vacuum system. This home’s customized, gourmet kitchen could be the envy of many an executive chef, with features such as multiple ovens, several refrigeration drawers and dishwashers, custom cabinetry and high-quality appliances. The second level features four, full guest suites; each including sitting rooms with balconies, walk-in closets and full bathrooms, as well as laundry access. The entire third level is devoted to the home’s master suite, which features two separate his-and-hers, spa-oriented master baths, complete with private walk-in closets, jetted tubs and walk-in showers. It also contains a private den area for office work. The suite includes a retractable flat-screen TV from the ceiling. And, one can imagine the beautiful window views from this suite as well. The lower level of the residence is an entertainer’s dream, with a full bar, state-of-the-art theater, game room, exercise room and sauna. An eight-car, drive-through subterranean garage is also temperature controlled, making it a perfect environment for collectors. Outside on the driveway, there’s plenty of room to park up to 20 more cars comfortably. The exterior terrace offers nearly 10,000 square feet of additional space, and has multiple venues for entertaining. Accented by an amazing, custom pool with built-in spa and tailored lighting, the space also is finished with a brand-new pool house and a second kitchen, air conditioning, flat screen TVs and powder room. The lot is professionally landscaped with made-to-order accent lighting and irrigation. LOCATION AMBIANCE Anchored with voluminous qualities, this address also provides easy access to Philadelphia and all major consumer routes. The associated school district is Unionville-Chadds Ford, a district with the vision of “unlocking the potential” in all its students. The school district, and this residence, are nestled amidst the rolling hills of southern Chester County, where the Battle of Brandywine was fought, and northern New Castle County, Delaware, where the paper was milled for the Declaration of Independence and America’s first currency. It’s also where the duPonts made their fortunes and built their mansions, and where three generations of Wyeths have lived and painted the landscapes and people of Chadds Ford. Rory can answer questions about the listing, and facilitate a virtual tour of this home using cutting-edge VR technology for a complete and safe walkthrough of the residence. A video of the property can be viewed at 1245SCreek.com.

HOW WILL HE LEAD THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES TO EXCELLENCE? HIS LIFE HAS BEEN 'FAITH, FAMILY AND FOOTBALL'

HOW NICK SIRIANNI PLANS TO ‘SWOOP’ IN AS A 39-YEAR-OLD, FIRST-TIME NFL COACH TO GIVE A WINNING EDGE TO THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES HAS BEEN THE TOPIC OF LIVELY DEBATES. He has until to figure it all out; but, this independent thinker

coach in the history of the Eagles. He’s the fifth head coach hired by Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie, with all five of them coming to Philadelphia to launch their NFL head coaching careers.

He says his five core values for helping the Eagles reach a new level of excellence are: 1. Building true connections with each other, through good and hard times, so they all want to do better for one another.

Nick Sirianni, 39, grew up in Jamestown, N.Y., and was a wide receiver at Division III powerhouse Mount Union. He turns 40 on June 15.

2. Competing every single day, as well as practicing how to compete in tight-scoring games that come from parity in teams. 3. Establishing accountability by setting standards early and communicating what’s needed to improve. 4. Playing smart football through putting systems in place so they know what do before game situations and plays happen. 5. Covering fundamentals by winning one-onone matchups. “I know how passionate Eagles fans are. I’m glad we’re on the same team -- that you’re on my side now,” shares the new luminary for The Iggles. Nick’s wife, Brett Ashley Cantwell, is a former school teacher. They have three children: Jacob, Taylor and Miles.
