WHILE ONE WEST PHILLY NATIVE KNOWS SHE WAS ‘BUILT FORD TOUGH,’ SHE REALIZED BEING “STRONG” HAD RESULTED IN HER ALSO BEING EXHAUSTINGLY TIRED. Latasha Jackson recalls understanding that she needed a change. “Life had left me overwhelmed, pressured, and just plain burned out. Being a mother, wife and full-time worker, my self-care was being neglected,” she adds. “Did I have time or the money to go to a big fancy spa? No! Did I want to travel through the busy inner-city traffic to get there? Another no. I needed something intimate, relaxing, safe and accessible, so I decided I should create it. I wanted to show men and women that we can have quality self-care without breaking the bank,” she explains. So, in April, Latasha opened a new mini spa, Body For Me, located at 9 North 5 Points Road in West Chester. “Our guests come to regain their peace, relaxation and positivity,” she says. Starting with a complimentary online consultation, the Body For Me staff can decide which of their waxing, massages, facials and body contouring services are best suited for each client. “Our facials are provided with

special techniques for each skin type, in three different ways — mini, deep or dermaplaning,” says Latasha. Dermaplaning is designed to help reduce visibility of fine lines and old acne scarring; it also helps the skin with better absorption for products and serums by removing peach fuzz and the top layer of dead skin cells. CryoSkin is a non-invasive procedure to slim and tone skin and remove fine lines and wrinkles, says Latasha. She adds that CryoSlimming uses a cold temperature procedure to slim bodies, while CryoToning smooths skin and reduces appearance of cellulite. Additionally, she says CryoFacials reduce appearances of wrinkles and fine lines. They have more than a dozen waxing services, ranging from lip waxing to full body waxing. For the holidays, Body For Me offers the following special: 10% of all services and a free body contouring session when three or more are purchased. Gift cards make wonderful holiday gifts, reminds Latasha.

DANICA PATRICK DEBUTS AN ALLURING NEW BOTTLE FOR DANICA ROSÉ

DANICA PATRICK HAS BEEN ACTIVELY REVVING THE ENGINE OF HER LATEST BUSINESS ENDEAVOR: HER PORTFOLIO OF WINE. The retired race car driver initially fell in love with wine her career. Her interest in the grape increased as she traversed the globe, becoming a formidable force in the sport. “I’ve been drinking wine since I was in England, and I would go and ask for a glass of whatever

I had my wine,” she remarks. But she didn't retire from racing to pursue other projects. “It was more like when I retired, I knew what I was going to do,” she adds. A PASSION FOR WINE Danica’s latest venture, Danica Rosé, grew from her ongoing passion for the libation. Her focus was on producing a traditional rosé from Provence, the oldest wine-producing region in France. She partnered with Les Vins Margnat, a family-owned company with a winemaking tradition dating back more than 200 years, and assembled a team of award-winning vintners. The result is a rosé created in a time-honored Provençal style. Danica Rosé is crisp, light and has a well-balanced acidity that makes it a perfect wine for any time of year. It incorporates flavors of white peach, melon, tart strawberry, hibiscus and lime blossom.

Although Danica also produces a rosé with her label Somnium, with Danica Rosé, she sought to create a wine that spoke to her personally. “Like with racing, people were always kind of curious about me. They would ask, ‘What is it about you?’” she explains. “The only thing I can come up with as to why people are interested is that they can relate to authenticity. Authenticity is something that is important to me.” “To make a rosé that is an authentic rosé from Provence was something that is really exciting for me — and here we are,” she exclaims. From vine to bottle, the wine is produced completely in Provence. Adding to its authenticity is its aesthetic; the bottle showcases Danica’s influence. The name Danica means “morning star,” and fittingly, the Danica Rosé bottle features a star on its neck, signifying hope, courage, guidance and

GIVING BACK

$30K donation helps 14 nonprofits WEST CHESTER ROTARY MEMBERS MAKE UP SHORTFALL TO STILL SUPPORT COMMUNITY

FOURTEEN AREA NONPROFITS RECENTLY RECEIVED A COLLECTIVE $30,000 IN FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM ROTARY CLUB OF WEST CHESTER MEMBERS. Community philanthropic grants usually are supported by funds raised at the Rotary’s annual Chili Cook-off, which was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. However, a generous donation from a Rotarian allowed grants to be given this fall. Meghan Ervine, Home of the Sparrow, volunteer coordinator, says the grant will assist women in their housing programs, as well as collecting school supplies for the women’s children. Glenda Brion, Community Warehouse Project executive director, says they serve an average of six families a week who come out of shelters needing furniture and household items. “Rotary funds will be used for bed pillows, and transportation costs to deliver furniture to families when volunteers aren't available,” she says. Hallie Romanowski, executive director of Act in Faith of Greater West Chester, thanks the Rotary Club for being one of the organizations who've provided overwhelming support. “We never had to close, remained able to help needy individuals throughout the pandemic, and will continue to do so with this grant,” she says. Dr. Dolly Wideman-Scott, CEO of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, says their organization also remained open during the pandemic because the need for services continues year-round. She thanks Rotary members for volunteering with some DVC projects during the pandemic, providing the grant, and emphasizes ARTICLE CATHY PALMQUIST 28

the partnerships with other nonprofit organizations in the county to meet victims’ needs. The West Chester Area Senior Center representative, Ellen Donohoe, acknowledges their long-term partnership with the Rotary Club, specifically in helping with WCASC’s food distribution program. “We provide food for seniors to pick up every week,

income senior housing,” she says. North Star of Chester County director, Don Neimetz, also cites long-term support from Rotary and other organizations that make it possible for them to help single, working parents. “Rents have been going up significantly,” he explains, “so Rotary funds will help us provide rental assistance for the working poor.” “The connection between horses and riders is visible,” says Dallas Knowlton, program director of Hope Springs Equestrian Therapy, which works with individuals having physical and/or cognitive issues. One example she cites was after their program was able to reopen, one of the horses noticeably responded to a returning rider. “We often note an emotional component,” she adds. Emily McClure, chief advancement officer of Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children, thanks Rotary for providing support since 2007. “We've been able to double our staff since then,” she says, noting that Friends is approaching its 200th anniversary. “Funds will go toward the housing we have recently acquired in Coatesville, which will eventually house up to seven families," she adds.

The Arc of Chester County serves 400 families annually, says director of advocacy, Kim Booz, who adds their grant funds will go toward education advocacy and system advocacy for people with disabilities. “Our grant will help remove barriers to and provide increased mental health counseling,” says Tyler Changaris, director of development at Family Service of Chester County, noting that “mental

She says Myrtle, a 101-year-old resident who has lived at the Hickman for 20 years, recently led their ‘Olympic Parade,’ an exercise event that included wheelchair volley ball and other sports. Marching forward with her walker, Myrtle declared, "I’m so glad to get out of lockdown!" “Our 24/7 hotline, advocates who provide legal and medical accompaniment, prevention outreach, and advocacy education will all benefit from our grant,” says Christine Zaccarelli, executive

director of the Crime Victims Center of Chester County. Natalie Coughlin, representing the Maternal and Child Health Consortium, says she was impressed that folks, such as Rotarians, are so invested in the community, and in organizations like hers, who work with mothers and children, and significantly in the Hispanic community. “Improving outcomes for youth will be the recipient of funds for West Chester Communities That Care,” says Loretta Cohen, Community Mobilizer of the organization. As part of their work with youth at risk, they're helping with the Padres Latinos program to encourage fathers and men to work with at-risk youth.

GIVING AWAY AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR, LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS IS GIVING $300,000 TO RECIPIENTS IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND BEYOND... AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

ABOUT SIX YEARS AGO ANNA SAROL, THE DAUGHTER OF A SINGLE MOTHER, WAS PARALYZED IN A GYMNASTICS ACCIDENT WHEN SHE WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT UNTIL LAST YEAR SHE DID NOT HAVE A STAIRLIFT IN HER HOME. The stairlift was made possible when Lifestyle Publications gave her family $10,000. “I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my

family and I are,” Anna says. The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of a giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients across the country with a final distribution of $250,000 throughout the year. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you nominated people that were in need of assistance. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers were able to help identify people who might have

Anna Sarol

otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her three young relatives. The children came from an abusive situation, and Kathy, a single guardian, works tirelessly to provide for them. Nevertheless, the family was already living in poverty despite her working seven days a week when Kathy lost her job during the pandemic. She resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent. When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy. “When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.” In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient and was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which resulted in a loss of income for her. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. *Names changed for privacy
