AROUND TOWN communities suggest that the number of closed sales are currently similar to that of 2019; however, the demand is incredibly higher with far more buyers in the market. For sale prices to stabilize, more homes need to be listed for sale. The good news is that it appears the West Bloomfield and Orchard Lake communities are in high demand, most likely for the excellent school system, parks, lakes and the diverse community! HOUSING INVENTORY REMAINS LOW WHEN COMPARED WITH DEMAND The real estate market continues to remain hot throughout Metro Detroit and also when focusing in on the West Bloomfield and Orchard Lake communities. When taking a snapshot of May 2021, single family homes have sold for as much as 25% over their asking price, in which most of the sales are selling for over the asking price in varying degrees. For comparison, in May 2019, roughly half of the single family homes sold for over the asking price by as much as 9.7%, but also many of the homes sold for below the asking price. In regards to listing and sale numbers, in May 2021, there were 115 new listings and 71 closed sales of single family homes whereas in May 2019, there were 83 new listings and 84 closed sales.

LOCAL RESIDENT AND BLOGGER SHARES TWO SUMMER RECIPES: PASTA PRIMAVERA AND STRAWBERRY NO-CHURN ICE CREAM.

Strawberry No-Churn Ice Cream + 2 cups heavy cream + 1 can sweetened condensed milk + ½ tsp vanilla + ½ tsp salt + ½ cup strawberry preserves In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, pour in the 2 cups heavy cream. Whisk until stiff peaks form (about five minutes, but you’ll want to watch it). Gently fold in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla, transfer to a freezer-safe container (a loaf pan lined with plastic wrap works great). Once it’s in the container, gently stir in the strawberry preserves, so there is a ribbon of it throughout the ice cream and freeze for at least six hours.

Pasta Primavera

+ ¼ cup diced onion + 6 tablespoons unsalted butter + 12 oz pasta (farfalle is a favorite for this dish) + 4 cups hot water (more as needed) + 1 thinly sliced zucchini + 1 cup thinly sliced carrots + ½ cup sugar snap peas sliced on diagonal + ½ cup frozen peas + 1 tablespoons minced garlic or 1 frozen garlic cube + ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese + ½ teaspoon coarse kosher salt or to taste Before you get started, cut up all the vegetables you are using. (You’ll want to make them similar in size, so they all cook at the same rate!). Heat a large saute pan over medium heat and add in the butter and onions; saute until the onions are just translucent, then add in the garlic and let it cook for about 30 seconds. To the onions and garlic, add in the pasta, water and salt. Stir well to incorporate and bring to a low boil. After the pasta cooks for a minute or two, add in the vegetables in the following order, leaving about two minutes between additions: carrots, sugar snap peas, zucchini and sweet peas. The veggies all cook at a slightly different rate, and you want them all to come out perfectly cooked in the end. Once the pasta is cooked and the vegetables are tender (about 15 minutes total), add in the remaining ingredients (Parmesan cheese, butter, salt and pepper to taste) and stir them in to form a light primavera sauce.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND THE STORY BEHIND WAKEBOARD CLINIC. I am 43 years old and grew up in Bloomfield Hills. Having parents who were teachers, my summers were always spent with my family at our cabin on a lake in Northern Michigan. We spent countless hours on the lake, learning everything from skiing to skurfing. Being heavily influenced by skateboarding and snowboarding, wakeboarding was a perfect fit for me when it was first introduced. I spent my high school and college years training to be a professional snowboarder and wakeboarder. With the dream of doing what I loved for the rest of my life, I began training young athletes and shortly after founded Michigan’s first school for wakeboarders: WakeBoard Clinic.
