SUNDAY, JUNE 20 MARKS THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER, AND IF YOU WERE THINKING ABOUT PURCHASING A BOAT, DOCKING YOUR BOAT OR STORING YOUR BOAT, CHECK OUT CLUB ROYALE. Club Royale has marinas on both Elizabeth Lake and Cass Lake; additionally, its Super Center is located at 4825 Highland Road in Waterford Township where you can visit their 15,000-square foot showroom and enjoy shopping for your new Supra, Moomba, Starcraft Pontoon, Premier Pontoon and more. If your boat is in need of repair, Club Royale’s technicians have over 80 years combined experience, which means that they can serve your needs no matter how large or small. Whether it be the simple fix or the most complicated problem, Club Royale prides itself on the fact that customers can have peace of mind knowing that their boat is in good hands. Plus, all boats are water-tested upon completion of repair to ensure safe and trouble-free days on the water. For more information, call (248)-681-9100 or visit clubroyale.net.
THE SPECS STARCRAFT CX 23 DL BAR (RIGHT) With the do-everything CX 23 DL Bar, Starcraft takes a novel approach to pontoon boats, developing a convertible bar-turned-lounge arrangement on the aft deck of this 23-footer. Raft up to the fleet at the cove or island, lower the bar, then recline and tan yourself awhile. When the sun drops below the yardarm (a phrase denoting cocktail hour aboard boats the world over), convert the arrangement into the entertainment bar and watch as crowds of friends and family belly up to it. It’s impossible not to notice this cool arrangement, just as it’s impossible not to enjoy it.
STARCRAFT SLS-3 (LEFT) Starcraft Pontoon boat innovation continues with the SLS series in 21, 23 and 25’, featuring HMX tubes. With strategically-placed strakes, HMX tubes give you better lift, less surface drag, increased speed, faster planning and a tighter-turning radius.

NOVI RESIDENT TIM QUINN WAS ALREADY PLANNING OUT WHAT HE’D LIKE HIS SLOT CAR RACE TRACK TO LOOK LIKE LONG BEFORE HE RETIRED FROM HIS CAREER AS A SENIOR SALES MANAGER AT BORGWARNER. 2.5 years later, the track is not quite completed; however, the 5’ by 15’ platform the four-lane track sits on is getting closer and closer to what he had always pictured being in his home. “[It] contains hills, rock cliffs, a waterfall that streams into a pond, valleys and bushes and trees of various sizes and types,” said Quinn. “It also includes a lighted partial downtown area, lighted billboards (including a Lifesavers sign and a Good Humor sign), numerous grandstands, a parking lot, refreshment stands (including a KFC), restrooms, an overpass, a pit lane, a lap counter system and 62’ of CNC routed track built to specification in California.”

I’d deliver them, too.” With an obvious passion for reporting and writing starting at an early age, it wasn’t surprising that Foster ended up attending Central Michigan University to pursue journalism and contributing weekly stories to the Freep throughout undergrad. Since then, he’s covered a variety of sports stories, including Detroit sports teams, Super Bowls, basketball championships and more. He’s most known for co-hosting Valenti and Foster on WXYT-FM The Ticket, a sports radio station, with Mike Valenti for 13 years until his retirement. My body turned cold, I had goosebumps and I think the hair even rose on my arm. I’ve always been curious what happened to that girl.” In 2016, Foster had a stroke. “I woke up one morning and felt a little woozy,” he described. “When I was trying to write something on Twitter, I couldn’t write anything, and my right hand kept falling on the keyboard. I then went to do radio, and it sounded like I had been drinking, only to later find out from my doctor that I had a stroke. I was totally caught off guard as I thought I had the flu.” Learning from his experience, Foster said that if a

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE THE PRO GOLFER’S FITNESS JOURNEY
SCOTT
STALLINGS’
WORKOUT
LIKE MANY IMPRESSIONABLE KIDS WITH GIDDY ENTHUSIASM FOR THEIR FAVORITE SPORT, SCOTT STALLINGS DISCOVERED HIS INTEREST FOR GOLF AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 3.
But it was the “aha moment” for his LOVE of the game that came in 1997 when Tiger Woods won the Masters and would forever change the entire landscape of the industry, as well as what Stallings would aspire to achieve in his future professional endeavors. Little did he know at the time, however, not just how successful he would become, but also how an unforeseen health compromise would also rock his world, and his cross training, for the better.
ARTICLE CITY LIFESTYLE
FROM 3-YEAR-OLD PUTTER TO ALL-AMERICAN GOLFER: STALLINGS’ BACKGROUND Born in Boston and raised in Oak Ridge, TN, Scott set off on his golf career at the early age of 3 and trained his way through achieving all-state golfer and Dean’s List status in high school. He was a seven-time tournament winner and was an All-American while attending Tennessee Tech, and he has won on the PGA Tour three times as a professional golfer. Upon realizing earlier in ‘97 “that Woods wasn’t that much older than him,'' Scott set himself into overdrive to “get it together” and tapped into his natural drive to be one of the best. CONTINUED >

SCOTT’S HEALTH PROBLEMS AND DEVELOPING A NEW WORKOUT
Flash forward to the year 2016: It became a life-changing year he never would have anticipated; one filled with strife as he learned he had been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and acute adrenal fatigue. It was a result of some unhealthy nutritional habits, both of which affected his ability to continue effectively as a professional athlete. With the guidance of doctors, surgeons, and his good friend Rich Froning, a four-time Crossfit champion, Scott developed a workout to trim 60 pounds, boasting 10% body fat, revising his daily eating habits, and sleeping healthily through the night.
26
West Bloomfield Lifestyle | June 2021
THE WORKOUT BASICS:
STALLINGS’ PRIMARY EQUIPMENT: KETTLEBELLS - Cast iron or cast steel ball with a handle attached to the top; ideal for exercises that combine cardio, strength and flexibility training. BARS AND WEIGHTS - A long iron bar on which weight plates are placed. Weights come in a variety of styles, including weight plates, barbells and dumbbells. DUMBBELLS - Short barbells, usually held in each hand MEDICINE BALLS - Weighted balls roughly the diameter of the shoulders that are used for strength training and rehabilitation
HIS TOP EXERCISES:
KETTLEBELL POWER SNATCH: Uses ground force to leverage the kettlebell upward, then the shoulder, arm and back support the weight as it gets pushed overhead. Also a great cardio exercise and trains the body for a good golf swing.

tomorrow, and you’ll never look back.” Had Scott not gone to the doctor because of that innate fear, he never would have known the diagnosis of sleep apnea that needed to be addressed. “You only get one body,” he says. Luckily for Scott, he didn’t have an overwhelming, crazy life overhaul. Instead, he was able to find one small thing, delivering simple systematic changes in his workout that led to his improvement in fitness and quality of life. He still was driven to be one the best PGA Tour players and the best family guy he could be, and he would do all of the discovery, the surgeries, and the daily changes all over again to continue living his best life. “I legitimately have some great people push me and stay around me,” Scott says. Scott has traveled the world over, playing on some of the best courses around, from Augusta National twice, to courses across Asia, Europe, Australia, and the hope to cross the Middle East and more stunning destinations in New Zealand off his global travel list. His next “bucket list” trip? Golfing 36 holes a day across seven courses on Long Island, some of the top in the country all within 20 miles of one another— and you better believe Scott “teed up” a “fitness test” among him and his two buddies to see who would fare the best in the end.
Today, Scott happily shares healthy time with his wife and kids and is leading up The Scott Stallings Kids Play Free Junior Golf Initiative, a partnership with the Tennessee Golf Foundation to bring free junior golf to the Knoxville area. “The mission is simple: Provide Knoxville's youth with unrestricted, free access to the game of golf at multiple facilities, 365 days a year,” he says. Look for Scott Stallings to be the first PGA Tour professional and mainstream athlete to represent NOBULL, a footwear, apparel and accessory brand that aligns perfectly with Scott’s train-hard story. 28

INSPIRED BY LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER SHARES WHY PROFESSIONAL PORTRAITS ARE IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY ON LINKEDIN, AND WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN TAKING THEM.

Thus, metro Detroit photographer Joe Lease (joelease.com) said creating a professional digital identity is now more important than ever. “When someone clicks on your profile, the first impression they get is how you present yourself,” he said. “As the old saying goes, ‘you don’t get a second chance at making a first impression,’ so selfies, vacation pictures and shots showing you out with your friends are fine for casual posting but not if you want to show you are professional and want to be taken seriously.” To create a professional digital persona, Lease said there are three things we should all keep in mind: our body language, dress and environment.

BODY LANGUAGE. “Body language is one of the most important aspects of non-verbal communication, and photography is all about non-verbal communication. People instinctively take cues from how we stand, if we touch our face and
JOE’S ADVICE:
if we are smiling or not.”
DRESS. “How we dress says a lot about how and what we see ourselves and how we establish our individual identity. A suit and tie works for a businessman or salesman but is inappropriate for a plumber, factory worker or dentist. How you dress is an effective way to tell the viewer how you want to be seen.”
ENVIRONMENT. A canvas or paper background works well if you want a traditional portrait but doesn’t say anything about what you do and who you are. To accomplish that, shooting on-location works best. It shows the subject in their environment and adds to their character.
