SHOPPING A WEST AUSTIN CHILDREN’S BOUTIQUE DEFINED BY MOTHERHOOD, COMMUNITY, AND A LOVE FOR TIMELESS STYLE, FOUNDED BY MICHAEL MCCOLLUM ADAMS.

Celebrating the Women Who Inspire Us

There’s something special about taking a moment to recognize the women who shape our lives in ways both seen and unseen. Here in West Austin, that spirit is part of what makes this community feel like home. It’s reflected in the women who show up every day with care, creativity, and strength, often without seeking recognition, yet leaving a lasting impact on those around them.

For me, it begins with my mom. She’s always been my rock while building her own path as a business owner, and her example has stayed with me through every stage of life. With Mother’s Day this month, it feels like the right time to reflect on those who guide us, support us, and stand beside us.

Beyond mothers, there are mentors, friends, teachers, neighbors, and family members who give their time, wisdom, and care so generously. One of the most rewarding parts of what I do is getting to share the stories of women across West Austin who are building businesses, supporting their neighbors, and creating something meaningful. Their contributions, both visible and behind the scenes, add so much to the character of this community.

I hope you take a moment this month to reach out to someone who has made a difference in your life. A simple message or call can go a long way in letting them know they are appreciated.

We’re honored to feature a few of these incredible West Austin women and women-led businesses in this issue, and I hope their stories leave you feeling inspired and connected.

With love,

May 2026

A GIRLS’ DAY WELL SPENT

SPEND THE DAY SHOPPING, DINING, AND UNWINDING AT HILL COUNTRY GALLERIA.

How long has it been since you laughed until your side hurt? If it’s been a while, it may be time to set aside a few hours with your friends, even if it’s close to home. There’s something about stepping away from your routine, being fully present, and sharing that kind of laughter that can shift your mood almost instantly.

Tadashi Sushi, located 12820 Hill Country Blvd E-105, Bee Cave, TX 78738.

Studies from Stanford University and the University of California, Los Angeles show that time spent with close friends increases oxytocin and serotonin levels. These are the chemicals that help reduce stress, create a sense of calm, and strengthen connection. It explains why even a simple afternoon together can leave you feeling more like yourself again.

For those nearby, Hill Country Galleria makes it easy. There’s enough variety to keep things interesting without needing a full plan. You can come back often, try something new, and still leave feeling like it was time well spent.

A good place to begin is Apricot Lane Boutique, a locally owned women’s boutique offering everything from casual, everyday pieces to something you’d wear on a night out. New styles arrive often, and the space feels relaxed, giving you time to browse, try things on, and find what works for you. The team is thoughtful and attentive, offering guidance on fit, color, and styling so you leave with something you feel good in. It’s part of a larger brand that’s been around for more than 30 years, while still feeling very much a part of the Bee Cave community.

Just nearby, Athleta adds something different to the mix. The pieces are designed for performance, comfort, and versatility, with options like high-waisted leggings that stay in place and breathable styles that move easily from a workout into the rest of your day. It’s a reliable stop for pieces that fit into your routine—not just for the gym, but for everyday wear. The brand also focuses on sustainability as a certified B Corp.

There are a couple of popular dining options nearby, including Runaway Luna, an Australianstyle coffeehouse and lifestyle boutique with a relaxed, community-driven atmosphere, and Tadashi Sushi, where Executive Chef Sun Il’s cutlery skills shows in each slice of sushi and sashimi. Both offer something different, making it easy to choose what sounds best in the moment.

Spring also brings one of the season’s most anticipated events with the Spring Pecan Street Festival 2026 on May 9–10. The weekend includes local artists, handmade goods, live music, and a range of food vendors, all set within the open layout of the Galleria. It’s an easy way to spend more time here while experiencing something new.

A few hours, a change of pace, and time with the right people can carry you through your week.

Make the time, stay a little longer than planned, and enjoy it all right here at Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Blvd in Bee Cave.

“ANDERSON PARKER WASN’T BORN FROM A BUSINESS PLAN—IT WAS BORN FROM YEARS OF BEING A MOTHER AND GENUINELY CARING ABOUT THE DETAILS.”

In West Austin, where community and everyday life are closely intertwined, Michael McCollum Adams has created something that feels both personal and purposeful with Anderson Parker. Inspired by her experience as a mother of four, the boutique reflects a clear understanding of what people are actually looking for, pieces that balance quality, comfort, and timeless style. What began as a desire to find the best for her own children has grown into a space where others can experience that same level of care and intention. Shaped by motherhood and a strong connection to the community, Anderson Parker offers a shopping experience with pieces that fit seamlessly into everyday life.

A WEST AUSTIN CHILDREN’S BOUTIQUE DEFINED BY MOTHERHOOD, COMMUNITY, AND A LOVE FOR TIMELESS STYLE.

Michael McCollum Adams is the owner of Anderson Parker with her stepmom, Meredith McCollum. Meredith runs their embroidery and monogramming services! “Monogram Mer”

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN A CHILDREN’S BOUTIQUE, AND HOW DID THE IDEA FIRST COME TO LIFE?

Anderson Parker was truly inspired by, and named after, my oldest daughter. As a mom, I’ve always been passionate about finding the best for my children — clothing that’s beautiful, well-made, and built to keep up with real kid life. Over time, that passion turned into a deeper knowledge of children’s fashion, and eventually I realized I wanted to create a space where other families could experience that same thoughtful curation.

YOUR BOUTIQUE HAS A DISTINCT POINT OF VIEW. HOW DO YOU APPROACH CURATING CLOTHING THAT IS BOTH STYLISH AND PRACTICAL FOR EVERYDAY CHILDHOOD?

I think about my own four kids every single time I select a piece. My girls love to dress up, but they want to be comfortable. My boys are rough-and-tumble and sport-obsessed — they want comfy athleisure, but I still want them to look put together. So I’m always looking for that sweet spot: timeless style that doesn’t sacrifice the comfort kids actually need to be kids.

IN WHAT WAYS HAS YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE AS A PARENT SHAPED HOW YOU SELECT BRANDS AND RUN THE STORE?

It shapes everything. I understand firsthand how much goes into running their lives. I’m not selecting brands from a distance — I’m a mom who has lived it. That experience gives me a really honest lens for what actually holds up, what kids will actually wear, and what parents will actually love.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN THE BRANDS AND DESIGNERS YOU BRING INTO THE BOUTIQUE?

I look for timeless appeal and premium quality above all else. Every brand we carry — from The Beaufort Bonnet Company and Little English to Courtside Kids and Properly Tied — has a point of view that feels both classic and genuinely special. These aren’t brands I stumbled upon; they’ve each been carefully and intentionally chosen. I’m also deeply passionate about supporting local Austin talent, because the creativity in this community is truly something else. And I’m thrilled to share that we have something new on the horizon — I’m launching my own children’s resortwear line called Little Eight, owned by me and Jess McCoy. It’s been a dream in the making, and I can’t wait to bring it to life for our families.

ANDERSON PARKER

Anderson Parker, founded by Michael McCollum Adams, offers a curated approach to children’s style in West Austin. The boutique is named after her oldest daughter, Anderson, whose middle name honors her brother, Parker McCollum. Located in Westbank Market at 3300 Bee Caves Road, Ste. 375 in Austin, the shop features apparel, gifts, and in-house monogram services, along with a focus on timeless design and everyday wearability. Learn more at shopandersonparker.com

WEST AUSTIN HAS SUCH A STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY, HOW HAS THAT INFLUENCED YOUR BRAND AND ITS GROWTH?

West Austin is such a special place to plant roots. Families here are deeply connected and they genuinely support local businesses that reflect their values. Opening in the Westbank Market felt right because it’s a place where neighbors already gather. That built-in sense of belonging has really shaped the warm, welcoming experience I want Anderson Parker to be.

WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE CUTEST OR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS YOU’VE EXPERIENCED SINCE OPENING THE BOUTIQUE?

One specific memory recently was with an expecting couple who allowed us to be a part of their gender reveal. We got to curate and wrap an outfit based on their gender results and watch them not even make it to their car before opening it! It was so special.

RUNNING A BUSINESS WHILE RAISING A FAMILY CAN BE A BALANCING ACT. WHAT HAS THAT JOURNEY LOOKED LIKE FOR YOU?

It is absolutely a balancing act, and I won’t pretend otherwise! But honestly, my family is the reason Anderson Parker exists — so in many ways, the two feel intertwined rather than in conflict. My husband has always been my biggest cheerleader and the person who encourages me to follow my dreams! It’s full and it’s busy, but it’s extremely meaningful.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER WOMEN DREAMING OF STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESS?

Build from what you know and love. Anderson Parker wasn’t born from a business plan — it was born from years of being a mother and genuinely caring about the details. When your business is rooted in something real and personal, that authenticity comes through in everything. Don’t wait until everything is perfect. Start with your passion and refine as you go.

FINALLY, IF SOMEONE WALKED INTO YOUR BOUTIQUE FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHAT FEELING OR EXPERIENCE DO YOU HOPE THEY LEAVE WITH?

I hope they know the people I trust to run the day to day storefront are just as important to me as what brands we carry! They smile because they truly love our brand and they are ready to dress your littles.

WHEN YOU WERE BUILDING THE STORE, WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DID YOU WANT FAMILIES TO HAVE WHEN THEY WALKED THROUGH THE DOORS?

I wanted it to feel like a boutique that truly understands family life — the beautiful, chaotic, wonderful reality of raising children. Every brand, every gift, every personalized touch was chosen to make the experience feel meaningful, not just transactional. I wanted parents to feel seen, and I wanted kids to feel celebrated. That’s the heart of Anderson Parker.

BECKY HILLYARD

From Side Hustle to Style Empire

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”

She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?

A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Becky in Splendid x @CellaJaneBlog Spring 2026 Collection

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?

A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.

Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.

Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?

A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.

This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”

Allison Bryant, Owner and Lead Stylist, on Building Community Through Creativity and Culture.

Behind the Blue Door

There’s a distinct feeling the moment you walk into Blue Door Salon in Bee Cave, shaped by years of experience and intention. What began as a passion for the craft has grown into something more meaningful. With more than two decades behind the chair, Allison Bryant has created a space where women feel confident, supported, and at their best. She shares her journey and the values behind the salon.

Q: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLUE DOOR SALON?

A: The biggest inspiration for starting Blue Door Salon was the desire to create a safe, supportive, and loving community, something I never found in other creative spaces. I wanted a place where both clients and stylists feel empowered and inspired every day.

Q: HOW DO YOU CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT THAT EMPOWERS BOTH YOUR CLIENTS AND YOUR TEAM?

A: Our environment is built on positivity and enthusiasm, which naturally empowers our stylists and their amazing clients. We focus on encouragement, creativity, and collaboration, so everyone feels seen, supported, and inspired.

Q: WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BUILDING YOUR SALON?

A: The most rewarding part has been the family and culture we’ve built. No one dreads coming to work when they’re met with smiles, laughter, and genuine welcome greetings. It’s a place where people want to be.

Q: HOW HAS THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY EVOLVED SINCE YOU BEGAN YOUR CAREER?

A: After 20+ years in the beauty industry, I’ve seen drastic changes in trends, styles, and the workplace, but the biggest change is the increased respect for the art and technical skills outsiders have developed.

Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUNG WOMEN ENTERING THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY?

A: The best advice I ever received is: don’t settle and don’t stay stagnant. Keep growing, keep learning, and continually deepen your well of knowledge. The industry rewards passion, persistence, and creativity.
