BEGIN WITHIN ARTICLE BY REBECCA BOSWELL

Cultivate a healthy mind, body, and spirit this month and it will serve you throughout the year

2023 is fresh and new, like a blank canvas. What is your vision for it? What are your dreams asking of you? When we begin within, we cultivate a healthy mind, body, and spirit. This sets us up for success in the months ahead. Mind. Begin by intentionally reviewing the ups and downs of 2022. Celebrate the bright spots and acknowledge the growth that accompanied each challenge. By honoring what’s been, you create fertile space for what’s next. Choose a word from your heart to serve as your compass for the year. Let it inspire and uplift you. Let it remind you of what you aspire to be and are growing into. When thoughts get heavy, or doubts get big, you can lean into your word. It will remind you of what’s most important when your vision becomes clouded. Body. Creating what’s next is tough without physical health. These body basics are game changers when practiced regularly. Hydrate. Many of us walk around mildly dehydrated without even realizing it. Instead, drink consistently throughout the day, adding to your intake when exercising or in high temperatures. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty! You will notice improved energy, complexion, mood, weight, and focus. Nourish. Choose locally grown organic foods, avoiding highly processed ones with low quality fats, sugars, colorings, preservatives, and chemical additives. Fill your plate

18

H EA LT H Y LIF E ST Y LE | W E LLNE S S

with colorful veggies, fiber-rich carbohydrates, and opt for animal products free from hormones and antibiotics. Rest. Poor sleep doesn’t just leave you tired, it affects hormones, mood, mental and physical acuity, and metabolism. It can make you irritable, anxious, and depressed. Over time, it can contribute to higher blood pressure, diabetes and even a weakened immune system. Move. Aerobic activity elevates your heart rate, contributing to heart, brain, and mental health. Weekly resistance training improves and retains muscle mass and strength, keeping you strong and lean, especially as we mature. Add in flexibility activities like stretching, yoga, and movement therapies to support an active lifestyle. Take your exercise outside for the added benefits of fresh air. Spirit. Connect daily to something greater. Whether you connect through faith, nature, or the universality of breath, create space daily to quiet your mind and still your body. Settle your thoughts, let your worries slip away. Meditate on your word for the year. Allow any insights and guidance to emerge. You can share your word with others to create greater momentum and spiritual connection through shared experience. This year, begin within and 2023 may just be your best year yet!

Cultivating a Healthy Mind, Body, and Spirit

1 2.

| Hydrate

How much? A good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces each day (i.e. A 135 lb. person would drink 67.5 oz per day).

2

| Nourish

How much? Aim for 2-3 cups of vegetables per day, especially green and leafy ones. To calculate your basic protein requirement (in grams), multiply your weight in pounds by 0.36.

3

3.

| Rest

How much? The general recommendation for adults 18-64 yo is 7-9 hours of sleep per night. By going to bed and waking up around the same time each day, you support your body’s circadian rhythm. Going to bed between 8pm-12am is considered an optimal window.

4

| Move

How much? 30-60 minutes of aerobic exercise per day, five days per week, can help you feel better, think more clearly, and live longer. Weight bearing exercises 1-3x’s per week is important for building and/or maintaining muscle mass. Download your complimentary Body Basics Guide at www. rebeccaboswell.com/bodybasics and join the Coaching Collective at www.facebook.com/groups/coachingcol lectivewithrebeccaboswell for a whole month of Fresh Starts & New Beginnings.

A Fresh Start D E C L U T T E R YO U R H O M E F O R T H E N E W Y E A R

The New Year is the perfect time for a fresh start, and what better way to achieve that than by decluttering your space? Ms. Placed Professional Organizing is a personalized luxury service that specializes in decluttering and organization to promote functional, stress-free environments. Layne Brookshire, owner and a professional organizer of Ms. Placed, leads a team of dedicated professional organizers based in Austin, Texas. We interviewed Layne, a West Austin local to chat about her incredible company and get some advice for anyone looking to tidy up in the new year.

MW: WHY DID YOU START MS. PLACED? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZER? LB: Simply put, I started Ms. Placed to help people expertly manage the personal items in their lives. I get to make spaces beautiful AND take tremendously overwhelming projects off my clients plates. The projects that always needed to get done, but no one knows the right person to call for, were right up my alley. In January 2023 we are starting our 13th year in business!

MW: FOR THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW, WHAT IS A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZER? WHY DO PEOPLE HIRE YOUR TEAM AND WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER? LB: A professional organizer is someone who can help you manage and organize the

physical items in your life. To me, it’s a trusted person who can help you make decisions and think through all of the options available, so you don’t have to. I often refer to our service as an accountability service, we will help you reach the goals you have set for yourself, and oftentimes do so by taking the entire project off your plate so you can focus on the things that only you can do. We aim to exceed client expectations and requests, and set you up in spaces that work FOR you.

MW: CAN YOU PLEASE SHARE SOME TIPS OR PRODUCTS YOU RECOMMEND FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO ORGANIZE THEIR HOME, BUT DOESN’T KNOW WHERE TO START? LB: If you don’t know where to start, begin by identifying the items you don’t need - what is NOT currently serving you. Look for stuff you never use. Ask yourself, “What am I constantly reaching over to get to what I am looking for? Can those items that are in my way go away? Do I even need them? If not, why am I allowing them to take up valuable real estate in my home?”

MW: FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY FEEL ORGANIZED, DO YOU HAVE SOME DAILY OR WEEKLY HABITS TO HELP THEM STAY ON TRACK? LB: Do a quick tidy of your home daily. All spaces should be reset each night so you can wake up to a space that functions for the routines you/your family need each day. Start the CONTINUED >

dishwasher every night. Do small loads of laundry throughout the week so you aren’t left with a huge pile that takes an entire day to get through.

MW: HOW DOES DECLUTTERING YOUR SPACE OPTIMIZE MENTAL HEALTH? LB: The outside environment is often a reflection of what people are feeling internally. By starting with our physical environment, we begin to make progress which gives us a sense of order and accomplishment. That feeling builds, and even releases endorphins that feel good. When you feel good in your space, you free up energy to focus on feeling better in more places.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB? Taking decisions off my clients plates is one of my favorite things about this job. By hiring out our service we are giving clients mental space and energy to focus on things that only they can do. We all have a limited amount of decision making neurons each day, and we live in a world of overconsumption of stuff and information. People feel “overwhelmed” constantly so the fact that I can help alleviate that for people in some small way (usually a big way in their home) is an incredible feeling to me. It’s not JUST the organizing that is valuable about our service. It’s the systems we set up that serve you in your everyday routines for how you use your spaces that is the biggest, lasting effect of the investment. Ms. Placed can assist you in starting the New Year organized and create a functional and beautiful space that you’ll love. Contact their team of professional organizers by calling (512) 987-8303 to request a consultation or visit msplaced.com.

“Overwhelming spaces lead to more overwhelm. By filtering through what is not needed, you visually eliminate unnecessary visual and physical “piles” that can weigh you down.”

Collettes Mini Donut Cakes

Events by Collet te DELICIOUS AND NUTRITIOUS GLUTEN-FREE, VEGAN, AND ALLERGY-FRIENDLY MINI DONUT CAKES, CATERING, AND GIFTS.

When Collette Simko-Knauss discovered she had several food allergies, she didn’t just give up the foods she loved. Collette set out to create recipes that were both delicious and safe for her to enjoy. That’s how Events by Collette was born - a local business that specializes in mini donut cakes, cooking classes, and gifts. Chef Collette not only understands the importance of dietary restrictions from her own experience as a self-taught chef and certified nutritionist, but she also creates recipes that take into account both her personal needs and those of the local community. No matter what your dietary restriction is - vegan, gluten free, or anything else - her dishes will have you coming back for more! “Collettes” mini donut cakes highlight her culinary skills and dedication to helping everyone eat well and learn the

importance of cooking. You can find them at the Lone Star Farmers Market located at the Hill Country Galleria on Sundays. Made with love and without any artificial ingredients, these bite-size cakes are perfect for any occasion. You can even improve your cooking skills with private classes from Chef Collette! Taught both in English and Spanish, these fun and informative classes will cover everything from the basics of knife skills to baking and decorating. And the best part is that Chef Collette will come right to your home! So, don’t wait to treat yourself to something delicious and nutritious! Head to Collette’s website for more information and recipes: eventsbycollette.com.

LEGGINGS 3 WAY S ARTICLE BY HALEY WILLIAMS

Our suggestions for styling faux leather leggings As we move through the season of spandex when most of us feel we’d rather not leave our stretchy pants, we wanted to feature three distinct looks using the same pair of Foil Snake Print Faux Leather leggings from Spanx. Whether you’re brunching with the babes or getting ready for date night, these versatile leggings can carry you through from casual to chic. While there are endless ways to wear them, we’re going to show you three ways to start styling them today.

Who doesn’t love a good brunch with the girls after your workout complete with mimosas to celebrate? Our suggestion is to layer your tank with loose layers and a light jacket to swiftly transition you from the barre to breakfast. A hat is always a good option to have on hand in case you worked too hard and that hair is showing it. We opted for easy-to-slip-on sockless sneakers that breathe. Lastly, don’t forget a cute tote or bag. Consider throwing in a clean tank and any makeup or face wipes you may need for freshening up on your way.

Whether you want a bit of a boost, a hint of a lift, or just a little tuck, you won’t go wrong with this versatile shapewear. And with these styling tips, you’re ready to throw them on for any occasion!

MOTO MAMA What we love about Spanx is their inherent ability to elevate your look, regardless of the occasion. Stretchy pants in a faux leather snake design? Say no more. Pair them with edgy booties or colorful pumps for a more elegant aesthetic. Playing with different textures is a good way to add interest and intrigue. Consider a chunky sweater with some unexpected details like the bare shoulder shown here, a thick boucle or intricate detailing. We love a good leather jacket with hardware details draped over the shoulder(s) for chilly evenings as you traverse the town. Pair this look with a gorgeous sparkly clutch and chunky bracelet.

SAT U R DAY SPORTS CH IC Whether you’re headed to a child’s sports game or a bar to watch the big game with your friends, leggings offer the structure and flexibility you’ll want as you find your spot among the fans in the bleachers or indulge in some lovely libations. Layers are life for this look. We tied a button-down around the waist which is so nice through the colder winter months as both an outfit accessory and a layering piece. Fur-lined high tops provide practical footwear for this look — because who doesn’t love some killer sneaks? A shacket and crossover bag complete the look. JANUARY 2 0 2 3 | C I TYL I FE STYL E .
