Celebrating What Matters Most
In this season of gratitude, we often find ourselves reflecting on the many blessings in our lives. Thanksgiving encourages us to slow down, embrace the present, and appreciate the people and moments that bring us joy.

This month, I’ve been especially grateful for the small, everyday moments that make life beautiful: the laughter of loved ones, quiet mornings with a cup of coffee, gathering with friends around a warm fire, and the chance to contribute to such vibrant communities here in Waconia and Victoria. No matter where I go or what I do, I’m greeted with genuine kindness and warmth. Maybe there truly is something to be said about the power of “Minnesota Nice”!
Our November issue is dedicated to stories of gathering, giving back, and celebrating the people and organizations that make Waconia such a special place. We’re endlessly thankful for our advertising partners, whose support allows us to bring inspiring stories to your doorstep each month, and for the readers who make it all worthwhile. The stickiness and togetherness of this community is truly inspiring.
As we prepare to gather with loved ones, let’s take a moment to reflect on what genuinely brings meaning to our lives. This holiday season, may we find contentment not in possessions or accolades but in the connections we nurture and the good we do for others.
Wishing you and your family a season of gratitude and grace,

BONFIRE AND Barrel

A warm new chapter at Schram Vineyards as they unveil their latest expansion

ARTICLE BY LUTIE RONGLIEN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARIA CLAIRE MEDIA
Since opening its doors in 2014, Schram Vineyards has become a cherished destination in the Waconia area, offering award-winning wines and stunning views in a rustic-chic setting. Over the years, the original building has served as a jack-of-all-trades: tasting room, kitchen, production facility, and event space. But as the vineyard’s popularity soared, so did the need for more room to breathe.
Now, just in time for the holidays, Schram Vineyards is proud to unveil an ambitious expansion: Bonfire and Barrel Lounge, a new restaurant and gathering space designed to elevate the guest experience while staying true to the vineyard’s roots. This expansion also includes a wine bottle shop, curated gift shop, expanded tasting room, and educational space—all crafted with intentionality, warmth, and a deep sense of community.
The name “Bonfire and Barrel” draws inspiration from Schram’s popular Bonfire red wine and its annual Harvest Bonfire event. “Bonfire” evokes connection, comfort, and celebration, and “Barrel” pays homage to the vineyard’s winemaking heritage.
The new building will open in phases. The bottle shop and gift shop are expected to open by October, followed by expanded tasting experiences. Bonfire and Barrel Lounge will begin soft openings in late October, with a full launch planned for early November.
While Schram has always offered food, this new space marks a natural evolution.

“We’ve wanted to expand our menu, increase seating, and create a more efficient layout for years,” says Ashley Schram, owner. “This new space allows us to do just that— with table service, a full bar including liquor, bar seating, and a cozy fireplace.”
Bonfire and Barrel will feature soft seating, TVs for sports viewing, and a warm, inviting atmosphere perfect for any occasion—whether it’s a girls’ night out, date night, family dinner, birthday celebration, or just watching the game. The menu includes brick oven pizzas, burgers and sandwiches, salads and soups, signature skillet plates, brunch offerings, appetizers, shareable boards like charcuterie, and housemade desserts. Seating is first-come, first-served, and if the lounge is full, guests can still order from the patio menu in other areas.
The original 2014 building, now called the Vineyard Lodge, will continue to host events and be available for private gatherings and weddings. Live entertainment will remain in the Vineyard Lodge, which was designed with acoustics in mind.

“We knew early on that growth was inevitable,” says Ashley. “After purchasing 20 acres to the east last year, we finally had the space to bring our vision to life.”
The design of Bonfire and Barrel blends rustic vineyard charm with modern touches—wood accents, large windows, patio doors, and cozy seating that invites guests to linger. It’s a space for all ages, and families are welcome.
Beyond the restaurant, the bottle shop is a key part of the expansion.
“We wanted guests to interact with the bottles—not just see them behind the bar,” Ashley says.
The new shop offers ample space for browsing, and the adjacent gift shop features Schram apparel, wine accessories, home décor, and more.
Looking ahead, Schram Vineyards has exciting plans in the works. A Social Club membership program is launching soon, offering discounts and exclusive perks. A micro-distillery is slated for 2026, and a new deck will be added to the Vineyard Lodge. Long-term plans include a sparkling wine facility.

“Seeing a long-time vision become reality and knowing it adds something special to our community is incredibly rewarding.”
“Our mission has always been to create quality products paired with memorable experiences,” Ashley says. “Seeing a long-time vision become reality and knowing it adds something special to our community is incredibly rewarding.”
Schram Vineyards is currently hiring servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, bussers, and sales associates. Bonfire and Barrel will be open at least six days a week, with weekend hours extending to 10pm. For the latest updates, hours, and job opportunities, visit schramvineyards.com
Whether you’re sipping wine by the fire, enjoying a skillet plate with friends, or browsing the bottle shop, Schram Vineyards invites you to discover a new kind of gathering place—where flavor, warmth, and community come together.

Bringing Thanksgiving Home with LOCAL TOUCHES

It’s that time of year again when your spirit of thankfulness coincides with craving your father-in-law’s stuffing. Among the blessings on your gratitude list–family, friends, health, and so much more–you can also add a community full of small businesses that make creating a memorable Thanksgiving gathering delicious and beautiful. The best part? You don’t even need to leave town.

Support local businesses while setting a table your guests will love
APPETIZERS
Can a delectable Thanksgiving spread actually even be delectable without a cheese board from The Grater Good? These handcrafted arrangements are made with love, featuring artisan cheeses and perfect extras like fruits, nuts, and meats–tailored to your preferences. Order ahead, and when you pick up in their quaint cheese barn, be warned, you’ll find even more goodies to bring home.
It won’t surprise anyone when a plate of warm and golden cheese curds appears at a Minnesota Thanksgiving get-together. When the ooiest and gooiest is what you’re craving, order them from Iron Tap. Served with ranch and marinara sauces, you’ll be starting your Turkey Day off right with this comfort-food classic.
Those who aren’t completely sold on Brussels sprouts are going to fall head over heels for the Brussels and Bacon starter from Lola’s Lakehouse . A drizzle of truffle oil, a sprinkling of bleu cheese crumbles–and a whole lot of happy turkeys at your house.
If you plan to finish your day with apple pie, you'd better get a few veggies in the mix first. That’s why Sizzle Street’s vegetable rolls are an obvious choice to claim a little real estate next to the cranberry sauce on your Thanksgiving table.
SIDE DISHES
A deli salad from The Butcher’s Deli is a wonderful pairing with the rich flavors and comforting aromas of arguably the best meal of the year. Their counter menu is always changing, so give them a call or stop in to plan your side dish lineup.
Five words: Cornbread from The Southern Social. Order more than you think you’ll need because this is going to be the talk of Thanksgiving 2025. Butter pools on top of this melt-in-your-mouth comforting addition. Expect applause (and requests for seconds!)
If veggies were royalty, this one would be king of the table. The Noble Lion dresses up their broccolini with mildly spicy pepper from France and light, refreshing lemon vinaigrette. Now, this is the way to get your vitamin C.
The turkey won’t be the only thing brimming with flavor when you bring home Winchester & Rye’s stuffed mushrooms. Savory bites loaded with herb cream cheese… what could be better?
MAIN DISH
If you’d rather be watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade instead of basting and brining, let Mackenthun’s Fine Foods take over the kitchen duties. Order your fully cooked turkey, pick it up, then heat and serve!
Not a turkey family? Buddy Boy Fine Barbeque has you covered. Put their spare ribs or pulled pork front and center, and watch everyone start gobbling.
You’re ready to get a little creative, so of course, you turn to Gongoll Beef. Steaks or roasts pair amazingly with garlic mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.
DESSERT
Simply dial 952.442.4447 to order a delicious bookend to your Thanksgiving feast. Bakery on Main makes a show-stopping pie, and you’ll want one of every flavor to complete your holiday feast.
The Cookie Store is a delicious (and adorable!) option for a Turkey Day dessert–perfect for the not-so-pie people. You’ll have
“Among the blessings on your gratitude list–family, friends, health, and so much more–you can also add a community full of small businesses that make creating a memorable Thanksgiving gathering delicious and beautiful. The best part? You don’t even need to leave town.”
a tough time deciding what you love most: the detail, the colors, or the flavor.
A cotton candy cake? Believe it. Candie Clouds makes gourmet cotton candy that turns any table into a celebration–and everyone into a fan.
BEVERAGES
Wash down those sweet potatoes with a Wactown Wheat or 255 Amber Ale from Waconia Brewing Company. Just pick up a few growlers of your favorites and sip away.
OMNI Brewery and Taproom is another option to utilize when your Thanksgiving goals are to create something unforgettable. They offer a wide variety of signature beers, each adding extra flavor and flair to your table.
If wine is your preferred pour, you’re in luck with three delightful wineries situated right in Waconia: Schram Vineyards, Sovereign Estate , and Parley Lake Winery. With fine wine and excellent company, your Thanksgiving will be complete.
Thanksgiving without a cocktail mixed with J. Carver Distillery’s spirits is like a turkey without the gravy. What’s more, you can conveniently grab a bottle at the distillery when you’re there for cocktail hour, or at neighborhood liquor stores.
TABLE DÉCOR
So, now your table tastes delicious–but how does it look? Swing into Main St. Floral or Victoria Rose Floral (or order online) to add seasonal blooms and vibrant colors for a warm holiday setting. Lakeside Loft and Carpenter’s Daughter are your headquarters for fall décor. Both offer decorative touches like candles and accents that reflect a season full of thanks and giving.

HOCKEY SEASON heats up
THE WACONIA BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ HOCKEY TEAMS ARE READY TO HIT THE ICE AND CHASE SUCCESS THIS YEAR
ARTICLE BY EMILY MCKEEVER
You know old man winter is on his way when the smooth “shhhhhhh” of blades and sharp “crack” of sticks can be heard from the Waconia Ice Arena. This season is shaping up to be an exciting one for the boys’ and girls' hockey teams as they lace up and skate into action.
Boys varsity team captain, senior, Devon Stifter, says that this year’s team is strong in skill and chemistry. “We work really well together and we’re very close-knit,” he shares. Devon says the team is excited to compete, win, and hopefully go far in sections as they take on new competition in Single A. Varsity head coach Steven Maciosek echoes Devon’s sentiments. “What excites me most about this season is watching the players continue to grow—not only in their skills on the ice, but also in the way they support each other as teammates.
Waconia hockey has a bright future, and this group is ready to compete.” This group of young stars squares off against Roseville for their first game of the season on November 20th and hosts their first home game on November 29th against Rock Ridge.
Jordan Gates, head coach of the Waconia girls hockey team, is excited to build the Wildcats into a team that can compete night in and night out and to help the girls grow into the best versions of themselves on and off the ice. “These players have great attitudes and a willingness to work for not just themselves but for their teammates,” he emphasized. Jordan also notes that the plan is to use every game of the regular season as a lesson. “Whether it’s win, lose, or draw, there’s always something we can take from each of these games to reflect and learn from.” The community is in for a treat this month as these determined athletes hit the ice. Their season begins on November 1st in St. Cloud, and their first home game is set for November 7th against New Ulm.
When can you cheer on the Wildcats? You can find their schedules here: https://www.waconiabluelineclub.com/ https://waconiagirlsblc.sportngin.com/
“What excites me most about this season is watching the players continue to grow—not only in their skills on the ice, but also in the way they support each other as teammates.”

From Groceries to Growth
How the Prosper Program at Gather and Grow Food Shelf and Connection Center is helping the community learn, grow, and thrive
Nestled in the heart of two great communities, Waconia and Watertown, you’ll find Gather and Grow Food Shelf and Connection Center. Whether you’re a volunteer, contributor, supporter, or client, we’ve all been touched in some way by the way this organization fills plates and sparks inspiration. The Prosper Program, a holistic approach to well-being with life skills classes at its core, is one way in which the community, through Gather and Grow, helps neighbors not only survive but thrive. Angie Cruzen, Executive Director, says this program provides people who want to improve their circumstances with a free resource—and also creates opportunities to form connections and build relationships, something every community needs more of.
“During the pandemic, it became very evident to me that many were walking through our doors for food assistance, but needed help in other parts of their lives as well,” Angie explains. And so, with help from Carver County Public Health,
the Prosper Program, an initiative to support individuals with their entire well-being beyond access to quality groceries, was established.
“There aren’t a lot of free resources available west of Chaska, and since transportation can be a huge barrier for people, I wanted to create opportunities in our neighborhood.” Angie goes on to say that there’s usually more than one factor in play when someone finds themselves experiencing food insecurity. “If our Prosper Program can help someone get on more solid ground, then it’s worth it. It’s giving a person a hand-up, not a hand-out.”
The Prosper Program’s classes cover many topics, such as budgeting, seeking and preparing for employment, cooking skills and tips, and many more, depending on the community’s involvement. Angie shares that if an individual has a background in an area they’re willing to offer, like human resources, mental health services, or personal finance—and a couple of free hours a few months out of the
year, she’d be thrilled to welcome them. “This entire program is a grassroots effort of amazing people in our community willing to offer their expertise to others to better our community.”
When Angie says to better our community, she’s pointing to a vision where the whole community thrives. “The program benefits all of us in many ways—it gives people a chance to volunteer and impact their neighbors in a life-changing way.” One powerful example of this life-changing impact, Angie shares, is a former shopper named Carla. She was recently divorced and found herself not only in need of assistance with groceries but also needing to find employment after being a stay-at-home mom for several years. Carla participated in the Employment Strategies class, created a resumé, interviewed for jobs, and ultimately was hired.
“She credits the class for helping her feel confident going into that interview. She now owns a home, has received a few promotions from that same employer, and has shared her encouraging story with others.”

“This entire program is a grassroots effort of amazing people in our community willing to offer their expertise to others to better our community.”
And this chance to learn and grow is open to all—clients, supporters, and neighbors together. “The Prosper Program is offered to the entire community. A participant doesn’t need to be a shopper at Gather and Grow to benefit.” When a class is planned, details are shared on social channels, with online sign-ups and opportunities to sign up in-store as well. Angie adds that in addition to welcoming all, the goal is to gain enough experts to offer a more consistent schedule of classes that cover the topics most important to the community.
If you’re interested in teaching a class or helping with the administrative work of strengthening the program’s foundation so it can be more consistent and impactful, please contact info@gatherandgrowmn.org.

H O P E
with YOU
The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?
The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.
“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”
Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:
SCAN TO NOMINATE

“We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”
Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:
“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”
Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.
This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.
“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”
Nominations are open from November 1st to December 5th, 2025. To submit someone you know, simply scan the QR code or visit @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the nomination form in the bio.
This holiday season, let’s give more than gifts. Let’s give each other the gift of being seen. Because sometimes, the smallest gesture becomes someone’s greatest miracle.
To nominate someone in need, visit: KingdomBuildingFoundation.org or scan the QR code.
Matt turned a magazine into community.
City Lifestyle isn’t just a publication — it’s a pulse. A rhythm of voices, neighbors, and stories woven together by someone who believes in the power of connection. As we expand, we’re looking for people ready to turn care into community. Are you ready to be that spark?
