LIFESTYLE LETTER
A Fresh Start
January 2026 PUBLISHER
Hi Upper Westchester, January isn’t just about turning the calendar it’s about turning inward, resetting your rhythm, and making space for what matters most. In a world that moves fast, this month gently reminds us to slow down, reflect, and consciously choose how we want to feel and show up in the year ahead. That intention flows beautifully through this issue. One of our features this month spotlights In Her Voice, a powerful local event that asked one simple question: What happens when you give nine women a microphone? The answer was connection, confidence, and a room filled with stories that needed to be shared. Created by registered nurse and Biggest Best Life podcast host Lauren Chapnick, the event brought together female entrepreneurs united by their mission to use their voices for impact. We’re honored to share the energy of that event and the nine women who stepped on stage with purpose. We continue our wellness focus with a conversation with Janna of Thrive Acupuncture, offering insight into how Eastern medicine can support modern living, and an interview with Dr. Kyle Gillett, whose perspective helps bridge the gap between performance, health, and longevity. And of course, we share Dr. Julie Sweeney’s Pediatric Wellness Trends, helping families stay informed as they navigate the evolving world of children’s health. But beyond the features, this issue is about something larger and choosing a new narrative for the year ahead. Wellness doesn’t have to look perfect to be meaningful. It can be as simple as drinking more water, moving your body each morning, saying no when you need to, or finally saying yes to what’s been calling you. It’s found in daily rituals, honest conversations, and creating pockets of calm in lives that are anything but. As you move through these pages and into 2025, we hope this issue feels like a deep breath and a reminder that growth doesn’t need to be rushed, progress doesn’t need to be loud, and your voice matters exactly as it is. Here’s to a month of intention, balance, and becoming.

Pediatric Wellness Trends What every parent will be talking about this year Parents today aren’t just trying to keep their kids healthy — they’re rethinking what “wellness” really means. From nutrition and stress to emotional balance and sleep, families are asking deeper questions and seeking a more complete picture of health. Pediatric care is shifting too, blending science with compassion and embracing new ways to support the whole child. From mindfulness and nervous-system regulation to outdoor play and gut health, here are the trends reshaping how we help children truly thrive.
postbiotics balance the immune system, strengthen the gut lining and reduce inflammation. Ways to nourish your child’s microbiome: • Offer foods such as berries, flax, garlic, beans, and oats to feed healthy bacteria. • Try kid-friendly fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, miso soup, pickles and sourdough bread. • Encourage outdoor play — exposure to diverse microbes supports a healthy immune system. Our internal and external ecosystems work hand in hand to build stronger, more resilient children.
MINDFULNESS AND THE VAGUS NERVE
FROM SICK-CARE TO WHOLE-CHILD WELLNESS
With rates of stress and anxiety rising, parents are looking for ways to help kids regulate emotions and focus their energy. Mindfulness and breathing practices activate the vagus nerve, which calms the body’s “fight-or-flight” response and supports better mood, digestion, and focus. Simple ways to start: • Take three slow belly breaths together before school or bedtime. • Keep a “gratitude jar” and share one good thing from the day at dinner. • Add gentle stretching, child yoga poses or calming music to the bedtime routine. Small, consistent rituals build emotional resilience and give children lifelong tools for balance and self-awareness.
GUT HEALTH AND POSTBIOTICS
Microbiome health remains a cornerstone of pediatric wellness, but the newest buzzword is postbiotics — beneficial compounds made by healthy gut bacteria. While probiotics add good bacteria and prebiotics feed them, postbiotics make the “magic” happen. Emerging research suggests that

More parents are reimagining the purpose of a pediatric visit. Instead of waiting for illness, they’re asking bigger questions: How can I improve my child’s sleep? What nutrients might help with focus or energy? How can we prevent recurrent colds? This proactive, personalized approach reflects a cultural shift — families want to invest in wellness, not just manage symptoms.
Integrative strategies gaining traction: • Nutrition, mindfulness, botanicals, and sleep optimization for ADHD and anxiety • Anti-inflammatory diets, breathing exercises, and stress-reduction tools for asthma and chronic inflammation • Building healthy daily rhythms around rest, movement, and mealtime connection These evidence-based approaches don’t replace medicine; they enhance it, helping children feel and function at their best.
THE RETURN TO MOVEMENT AND CONNECTION
After years of digital overload, families are rediscovering the joy of movement and outdoor play. Free time outside supports both physical and mental health — improving sleep, mood, and even microbiome diversity. Ideas for bringing movement and connection back:
Dr. Julie Sweeney, Abby Cole Photography
• Schedule unstructured outdoor time every day — playgrounds, parks, or neighborhood walks. • Plan weekend hikes or family bike rides to model active living. • Try backyard scavenger hunts, gardening, or snow play to blend fun and nature. • Protect family dinners or community events as screen-free spaces for real connection. Children thrive when they feel supported, seen, and part of something larger than themselves. Social connection is medicine too.
THE FUTURE OF PEDIATRICS
As we move through 2026, pediatric wellness is both more evidence-based and more heart-centered than ever. It’s about prevention, connection, and teaching children the foundations of lifelong health. Dr. Julie Sweeney is a board-certified pediatrician and fellowship-trained integrative medicine physician. She is the founder of SproutWell Pediatric Integrative Medicine in Darien, where she helps families add evidence-based holistic care to conventional medicine for whole-child wellness. In Her Voice: LAUREN CHAPNICK WEBSITE: LAURENCHAPNICK.COM INSTAGRAM: @LAURENCHAPNICK What happens when you give nine women a microphone? In Her Voice was born from that very question. Created by Lauren Chapnick, a registered nurse and host of the Biggest Best Life podcast, the event was designed to bring together a dynamic group of female entrepreneurs who share one mission: to spread their messages from the stage. Held on Sunday, November 16th at HudCo in Dobbs Ferry, In Her Voice gathered nine women who not only delivered powerful talks but also came together to support one another, form meaningful connections, and build community with fellow coaches and business owners in the area. This is just the beginning—Lauren plans to bring many more In Her Voice events to life, continuing to create spaces where women’s stories, wisdom, and leadership can shine. Next month’s issue will feature exclusive photos from the event. Here are the speakers:

A R E T UR N T O T HE B ODY INSIDE THRIVE ACUPUNCTURE & WELLNESS
ARTICLE BY LAURA SABIA
24
S ELF CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS
When Dr. Janna Siegel arrived in Northern Westchester, it wasn’t just a move it was a homecoming. After more than two decades in New York City, where she built her life, career, and deep roots in the acupuncture world, something began to shift. A quieter rhythm called her north. More space. More nature. More presence. And eventually, that calling planted Thrive Acupuncture & Wellness in the heart of Chappaqua.
“This community welcomed me with open arms,” Janna says. “I feel incredibly grateful to be here. Thrive has truly found its home.” And so has she. Janna’s journey into acupuncture wasn’t a straight line. In fact, she began on a path that never quite felt right one filled with expectations rather than alignment. Then, at 30 years old, with a shoulder injury that wouldn’t resolve, she found herself lying on an acupuncture table for the first time. What happened next changed everything. After several treatments, her long-term injury nearly disappeared. But beyond the physical relief, she experienced something deeper: curiosity. Connection. Hope. “She wasn’t just treating my shoulder, she was treating me,” Janna recalls. “That was the moment everything clicked.” She went on to complete a demanding five-year graduate program, earning both her Master’s and Doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2011, she opened Thrive Acupuncture & Wellness, a practice rooted in the belief that healing is not about quick fixes, but comprehensive, personalized care. At Thrive, the focus isn’t just on needles or herbal formulas. It’s on listening. “I built this clinic to reflect everything I wish healthcare could be,” Janna says. “I spend time with my patients. I ask questions. I want to understand their story not just their symptoms.”
Her approach blends ancient Chinese medicine with modern functional techniques to help treat a wide spectrum of conditions, including: • Chronic and acute pain • Autoimmune and complex conditions • Women’s health and fertility • Insomnia and anxiety • Digestive issues • Migraines, allergies, and sinus concerns • Emotional and stress-related imbalances But what her patients often talk about most isn’t just the results but it’s the experience. “There’s no rush here,” she explains. “We work together. We set goals together. And I create a treatment plan that feels aligned, realistic, and supportive.” Her gratitude for the Chappaqua and Upper Westchester community is woven through everything she does. “Thank you for trusting me,” she says. “It means the world. And I look forward to growing, healing, and continuing this journey with all of you.”

The New Frontier of Health AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. KYLE GILLETT
Why do so many people feel exhausted, foggy, or unwell, even when their medical tests insist everything is “fine”? Why are we prescribed quick fixes instead of being given real answers? Across modern medicine, a shift is happening. More patients are demanding real explanations, and more clinicians are rethinking what “healthcare” should actually mean. Leading that shift is Dr. Kyle Gillett, a dual board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine and an expert in metabolic, hormonal, and preventive health. Through his clinic, research, and The Gillett Health Podcast, he’s become a trusted voice for people seeking science-based, root-cause solutions rather than symptom-based band-aids. “Functional medicine is really ‘root cause medicine,’” Dr. Gillett often says. “It’s about asking why the problem exists and not just quieting the noise.” In this Q&A, Dr. Gillett breaks down the most common questions he hears from patients and offers simple, actionable guidance anyone can begin using today.
1. “WHY DO I FEEL AWFUL EVEN THOUGH MY LABS ARE ‘NORMAL’?”
Dr. Gillett: I like to say, “There is no such thing as ‘we’ve done everything.’” We can always dig deeper. Often, the labs ordered are the wrong type of assay, or important markers like ferritin or SHBG—which binds testosterone and estrogen—are completely missed. Beyond lab work, there are other factors: mitochondrial health, sleep quality, mental health, and even how sensitive your dopamine and serotonin receptors are. “Normal” labs do not always equal normal physiology for you.

Stay Warm this Winter with a Worry-Free Heating System.
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES AND PROVIDED
Dr. Gillett: Start with a good, comprehensive lab panel to assess nutrients and hormones. Then build the foundation with sleep. My favorite tool is the 10/3/2/1/0 rule: • 10 hours before bed: No caffeine • 3 hours: Avoid large meals and alcohol • 2 hours: No vigorous exercise • 1 hour: No bright blue or white light • 0: No snoozing and no inconsistent sleep/wake times Aim for 7+ hours of high-quality sleep. When sleep improves, energy almost always follows.
3. “IS MY GUT ACTUALLY CAUSING ALL THESE OTHER PROBLEMS?”
Dr. Gillett: Gut health influences most major health issues, but it’s rarely the only problem. Diet is my second pillar of health for a reason. Exercise, sleep, and stress reduction all improve gut function too. Even simple tools like self-hypnotherapy apps can reduce gut-related symptoms. CONTINUED >

4. “WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW, TODAY, TO START FEELING BETTER?”
Dr. Gillett: Focus on the pillars of health: diet, exercise, sleep, stress, sunlight, social connection, and spiritual health. Treat them like habits and find ways to make them enjoyable or easy to start. Supplements and medications are supportive tools, not substitutes. Think of them like turbo chargers: they enhance a system that’s already functioning.
A FINAL WORD FROM DR. GILLETT
“The goal isn’t to tell people what to do, rather it’s to give them the information they need to decide what’s best for themselves.” By understanding the why behind your symptoms, labs, and lifestyle choices, you become the driver, not the passenger, of your health journey.

For a complete spread, pair the soup with a simple arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette or roasted carrots with honey and thyme to round out the table beautifully.

The Power of PRESSING PLAY: Inside Club Sweat Digital HOW A SIMPLE FIFTEEN-MINUTE DAILY WORKOUT ROUTINE CAN CREATE SUSTAINABLE HEALTH, MOMENTUM, AND CONFIDENCE OVER THE NEXT YEAR ARTICLE BY LAURA SABIA
January is full of good intentions and busy calendars. Between work, family, carpools, snow days, and early sunsets, even the most motivated among us can find the idea of commuting to a workout class feel overwhelming. That’s where Club Sweat Digital steps in to help. Not as a replacement for in-studio fitness, but as a powerful extension of it. Designed for real life, Club Sweat Digital brings the energy, structure, and results of high-intensity boutique fitness directly into your home. On your time, your terms. And in the season of fresh starts, that flexibility matters more than ever. One of the biggest barriers to consistency isn’t motivation — it’s logistics. “I don’t have time.” “I couldn’t get a sitter.” “It already started.” “It’s too cold.” Sound familiar? Club Sweat Digital removes every excuse by meeting you exactly where you are: your living room, your office, your hotel room, or your kitchen floor between meetings. With on-demand classes ranging from quick 15-minute sweat sessions to full-length workouts, it allows users to stay consistent without needing to rearrange their lives. It’s fitness on demand and it's accessible, effective, and designed for modern schedules. What makes Club Sweat Digital stand out isn’t just convenience but it’s community. The platform offers not only strength, cardio, and sculpt classes, but also mindset, mobility, and recovery programming. Creating a holistic approach to movement. It’s not about punishing your body after the holidays. It’s about supporting it as you ease into the new year. Because sometimes the biggest win is simply showing up, even if it’s in pajamas. Get a free week trial to kick off 2026 at digital.club-sweat.com Three ways to make at-home workouts stick: Schedule them like meetings. Start small with 15-minute sessions. Create a dedicated space, even a corner. Use headphones for immersion. Track consistency, not perfection. Celebrate streaks. Most importantly, choose classes you enjoy because sustainability beats intensity every single time this January and beyond always.
