Celebrating the Women We Love and Admire

May has a way of reminding us to slow down and appreciate the people who hold everything together. And more often than not, those people are women.

This issue is dedicated to the women who shape Tulsa. The ones building businesses, raising families, leading quietly, and showing up for the people around them in ways that don't always make the headlines but always make the difference.

What I love most about putting this issue together each year is the chance to sit down with women in our community who are doing extraordinary things not for the recognition, but because they genuinely care about the work and the people it serves. Their stories are in these pages, and I hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as I did.

This month also brings Mother's Day, and I'd encourage you to think broadly about what that means. A mother, a mentor, a friend who stepped in when it mattered. The women who shaped us don't always share our last name. Whoever comes to mind, let them know. A handwritten note, a phone call, even a simple "thank you" can carry more weight than you'd expect.

Here's to the women of our city and the ones in each of our lives who make everything a little brighter.

Happy Mother's Day and God Bless,

May 2026

Want

Purposeful and Collected

PHOTOGRAPHY BY KACEY GILPIN
Bronwyn Spain uses her unique gift to design spaces that feel purposeful, collected, and effortless

When Bronwyn Spain was a little girl, she couldn't explain why her grandmother's house made her feel like she never wanted to leave while the fluorescent-lit school room made her want to crawl out of her skin. She just knew. Warm light, rich colors, and a sense of intention would settle her completely. Beige walls, commercial flooring, and sound bouncing off hard surfaces would do the opposite. She didn't have the language for it yet, but she was reading rooms the way most people read faces.

It wasn't until a psychology of design course at the University of Oklahoma that everything connected. "There are colors that make people want to linger in a space," she says, "and there's a lighting pattern that can help people feel more comfortable." She suddenly realized the instinct she'd carried since childhood had a science behind it, and a career ahead of it.

After graduating with a degree in Interior Design from OU, Bronwyn worked briefly at a residential firm in Tulsa before a detour into real estate and then, at just 23, a leap into designing Spain Ranch, the nationally recognized wedding venue. "I thought 'I'm diving into the abyss,'" she recalls of those early days, with no support staff and no experience in the wedding industry. Over the next decade, she served as creative director, designing everything from the venues to the branding and marketing. The work earned national recognition, including an AIA award, a Tulsa People Magazine cover, and features in Cup of Jo, Green Wedding Shoes, and The Venue Report. But through it all, the work that filled her up most was always the design itself. "Branding and social media drain me," she says. "Whereas I'm working right now on eight different projects and I'm like, 'Give me more.' It fills me up."

“I don’t design homes for trends because I want longevity,” she says. “I don’t want a client to have to hire me again in 10 years when everything looks outdated.”

That clarity led to Studio Bronwyn, her return to the work she'd loved from the beginning: interior design.

Today, Bronwyn takes on residential and commercial projects in Tulsa and New York City, from mid-century renovations to postmodern apartments to traditional homes. There is no signature style, and she prefers it that way. What ties her work together isn't a look. It's a philosophy. She designs on feeling: asking clients psychology-driven questions about how they live, what colors draw them in, and what makes a space feel like theirs. Her goal is that nothing in the finished home feels contrived. "I love a home that feels purposeful and collected," she says.  Bronwyn believes great design should feel effortless at every stage, from first conversation to final installation, building her client relationships around proactive communication and transparency so the process itself never becomes a source of stress. "If the home feels effortless," she says, "they're going to be more comfortable in it."

She is also intentional about designing with permanence in mind over what's popular at the moment. "I don't design homes for trends because I want longevity," she says. "I don't want a client to have to hire me again in 10 years when everything looks outdated."

Bronwyn credits some of her strengths and intuition as a designer to qualities she believes women bring naturally to creative work: the ability to juggle multiple projects, a gift for clear and consistent communication, and a nurturing instinct that quietly elevates every design decision. As a mother, she thinks through the daily rhythms of living in a space, anticipating details others might overlook. It's a perspective that turns good design into design that actually works for the people living in it.

Her perspective has also fueled her ambitions beyond Tulsa. A love affair with New York City that began over a decade ago has grown into a second market for Studio Bronwyn, with projects underway in Manhattan. "I am in love with that city," she says.

Bronwyn Spain built a career on something most designers study but few truly possess: an instinct for how a space makes a person feel. From a little girl who couldn't sit still in the wrong room to a designer whose projects now span two cities, that gift has been her compass. Today, with many projects on her desk and a studio that bears her name, the work fills her cup. "I love what I do," she says, "and feel lucky I get to do it."

Women Empowering Women

Maggie from Empower with Integrity shares her healing journey

In a world with such polarizing ideologies, never has it been more important for women to empower other women. If we aren't there to support, uplift and encourage each other, who is going to? It's time we cast away judgment, stop criticizing each other for good and be the support we can be for other women because we are the ones who can relate. If we are lucky enough to live past our 40s and 50s, we will all go through menopause. Sharing our personal struggles with aging with other women should be a priority. That is what our goal at Empower always has been and one we continue to strive for.

Dr. Amy Hurlburt certainly was that support for me. About a year ago, she reached out to me, suggested we work together, and told me she thought we'd make a good team. She was right and her timing was impeccable. I was at a time in my life when I needed someone, another woman to pick me up a little and show me some support. Almost exactly

this time one year ago I was recovering from a difficult life transition and was in the thick of the most difficult period of my life. On top of all I was going through, I had been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, was in the middle of treatment and in perimenopause. Dr. Hurlburt was a godsend in my life and entered it at a time when I needed it the most. In working with her this past year, I've learned that I wasn't as limited as I thought in treatment of menopausal symptoms. I was still a candidate for vaginal estrogen and with approval from my oncologist, I could even use testosterone for treatment of low energy, brain fog and low libido. The feedback I'd been receiving from our patients was that hormones, specifically testosterone, helped "jumpstart their battery." I wanted my battery jumpstarted and as it turns out, I had options.

My double mastectomy unfortunately left me with two large, unsightly scars that keloided. Dr. Hurlburt has been helping me with those. With injections and eventually treatment with Morpheus 8 when I'm healed enough, she is hopeful I can achieve dramatic reduction in the appearance of my scars. She is quite literally assisting me from the inside and out.

One of the things I have learned in working with Dr. Hurlburt is that menopause and HRT are vastly misunderstood, that there are options for breast cancer survivors, and that

it does require the expertise of a physician who understands the complexity of hormone regulation in older women. Dr. Hurlburt impresses me with most things she does, but her knowledge in menopause and its treatments is what stands out the most. Most of her new patients have at least one experience with providers in which they either didn't feel listened to or they weren't given options that adequately addressed whatever it was that was bothering them the most. At Empower with Integrity, both Dr. Hurlburt and I are committed to doing our part in the upliftment of women and women's health. We would love to meet you at a free consultation.

Oklahoma Renaissance Festival Returns

The 31st Annual Oklahoma Renaissance Festival returns this spring, inviting guests to step back in time to 1569 England for six weekends of adventure, entertainment, and merriment at the Castle of Muskogee. Opening Saturday, April 25, 2026, the festival promises an immersive experience filled with history, fantasy, and fun for visitors of all ages.

Each day begins with a royal welcome from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and her court, setting the stage for a full day of exploration in the lively streets of Castleton Village. Guests can enjoy thrilling jousting tournaments held twice daily, along with interactive experiences like Edged

Feather. Throughout the village, a wide variety of food and drink options are available, offering something to satisfy every appetite. Visitors are also encouraged to wander through the winding lanes and browse more than 150 merchants featuring handcrafted goods such as toys, costumes, leatherwork, and other unique treasures.

New this year, the festival introduces a complimentary shuttle service designed to make arrival easier and reduce traffic congestion. Guests can also enjoy the romantic Table Pour Deux, an intimate Champagne experience overlooking the jousting arena, perfect for couples seeking a memorable outing.

Exciting upgrades have been completed throughout the grounds, including the return of The Garrison, where the Castleton Yeoman will present engaging weapon demonstrations and historical displays. The Bavarian Forest area will also feature the newly refreshed Edelweiss Stage, showcasing lively performances by the popular band Wolgemut.

For those seeking a more interactive adventure, a new partnership with the Royal Players Guild offers immersive, tabletop-style questing experiences suitable for all skill levels. Whether a seasoned adventurer or a curious newcomer, guests can take part in unique storytelling journeys.

One of the most anticipated highlights this year is the grand reopening of the Castle’s Great Hall. Following significant fire damage last October, extensive renovations have restored the structure, including an updated drawbridge, rebuilt stone walls, and a stunning timbered ceiling.

With more than 15 stages of entertainment, the festival offers nonstop excitement. Special events such as The Queen’s Tea, King’s Smoker, and Royal Tastings provide exclusive experiences for adult guests, while evening events like the Masque Ball, Pirate’s Feaste, and Ceilidh bring music, dancing, and celebration to select weekends.

The festival runs Saturdays and Sundays from April 25 through May 31, plus Memorial Day, May 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Balance Approach

BALANCE MED SPA IS REDEFINING THE SPACE WITH COLLABORATIVE CARE AND A WELLNESS-FIRST PHILOSOPHY

The building at 61st and Elm in Broken Arrow used to be a pharmacy. Today, it’s Balance Med Spa, a full-service wellness and aesthetics practice rebuilt from the studs up, but with deep, lasting roots in clinical care. Leading the practice is Director of Operations Lindsay Corsini, a Doctor of Pharmacy who spent 14 years as a compounding pharmacist specializing in hormone consultations. That clinical foundation shaped a philosophy the entire team shares. “You’re not going to look your best if you don’t feel your best,” Lindsay says. “It’s all connected.”Balance Med Spa operates with four providers: nurse practitioner Amy Oden, physician assistant McKenzie Bonnewitz, and certified nurse injectors Alexis Schmoker and Johnna Johnson. Each brings a distinct specialty, and the collaboration between them sets the experience apart. It’s a model that’s uncommon in the med spa space, where most practices rely on one or two providers who handle a little of everything.

“IT’S NOT ABOUT WHAT WE DO. IT’S HOW WE DO IT. THAT IS REALLY WHAT I’M MOST PROUD OF.”

At Balance Med Spa, a client who walks in for one service might leave having met the entire team. Lindsay recalls a gentleman who came in for one specific thing. “As we talked, it became clear there were several ways we could help him,” she says. “By the time he left, he had met all four of our providers.”That collaborative approach is especially evident on the wellness side, where Balance Med Spa often begins. Hormone optimization, weight management, and thyroid support are frequently the starting point for new clients, and the providers make a point of addressing what’s happening beneath the surface instead of immediately turning to aesthetic enhancements. Amy, a platinum BioTE provider whose specialty in hormone optimization is rare to find in the med spa setting, tailors every plan to the individual. “There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ here,” she says. “Whether someone is brand new to med spa treatments or very experienced, I meet them where they are.”McKenzie operates at the intersection of wellness and aesthetics. Her focus spans aesthetic dermatology and wellness-based treatments, from advanced laser procedures and skin rejuvenation to hormone optimization. She blends clinical precision with a deep understanding of the technology driving each result. “We combine advanced technology with a strong clinical foundation,” she says, “but we also prioritize education, safety, and long-term results over quick fixes.” Alexis sees the Balance Med Spa approach pay off in deeply personal ways. She recalls a client

who came in wanting to feel refreshed but was clear that she didn’t want to look overdone. “At her follow-up, she became emotional and shared that she finally felt like herself again,” Alexis says. “Moments like that really reflect our philosophy.”Every client relationship starts the same way: with a conversation. Balance Med Spa rarely lets someone walk in and book a treatment on the spot. Instead, the providers begin with a consultation, discuss short- and longterm goals, and build a plan together. It’s a process built on education, transparency, and genuine care, and that trust is what keeps clients coming back and telling the people closest to them to do the same.“It’s not about what we do,” Lindsay says. “It’s how we do it. That is really what I’m most proud of.”

BECKY HILLYARD

From Side Hustle to Style Empire

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”

She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s , she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?

A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Becky in Splendid x @CellaJaneBlog Spring 2026 Collection

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?

A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.

Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.

Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?

A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.

This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.

“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”

ALL

IN

I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM MY FATHER, AND NOW I GET TO PASS THOSE VALUES ON: INTEGRITY, ETHICS, FOLLOW-THROUGH, CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND CEMENTING YOUR SIGN IN THE GROUND, LITERALLY.

Twenty-seven years ago, Amanda Duenner was five months pregnant when a major client gave her and her father, William Daniels, an ultimatum: start your own firm, or lose the deal. They didn't think twice. Daniels Greer Properties was created the next day. "We went all in and never looked back," Amanda says. From the very beginning, Amanda put in whatever the work demanded, whether that meant sleeping in a construction trailer to accommodate a client's schedule or working long into the night to close a deal. While the industry and the way they do business have

IN COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE, DANIELS GREER PROPERTIES PROVES THAT EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE

evolved over the decades, that commitment to going above and beyond for their clients has remained constant.

Their first projects were massive: landmark leases with Kaiser Francis Oil Company, million-square-foot buildings across downtown Tulsa, and pivotal properties beyond. Amanda's background in retail had taught her early that customer service is everything, and she carried that principle into commercial real estate from day one. As the business grew, she and her father did not lose sight of what set them apart. Daniels Greer was built as a boutique firm on purpose. "We don't take on more than we can handle," Amanda says. "We stay in close contact with our clients, even after the deal is done." They stay responsive, timely, and relentlessly hands-on. Today, most of their business comes through referrals, a testament to relationships that outlast transactions. That standard of care shows up in ways most firms wouldn't consider. Amanda keeps bolt cutters, latex gloves, trash bags, a Phillips screwdriver, and cleaning supplies in her car at all times, a toolkit she's built one client at a time, with every item a story of showing up where other firms wouldn't. Recently, she and her son Cameron were out scraping old lettering

off windows, repainting walls, pulling weeds, and picking up trash on a property to get it ready for market. "We don't just project all that onto the seller," she says. "That's a service that we bring." It's the kind of work that doesn't make a brochure but speaks volumes about the firm.

And when things get complicated, Amanda leans in. With over 45 years of combined experience, she and her father have navigated nearly every challenge the industry can present, from legal hurdles to difficult tenant situations to properties that test every ounce of patience. "I am somebody who likes a challenge," she says. That grit, she credits to her father. "He is probably one of the most mentally tough people I have ever met. He taught me how to pull myself up by my bootstraps and not stay knocked down."

Today, the next generation is stepping forward. Cameron Greer has joined the firm, bringing fresh energy and ideas while carrying forward the values that built it. "I learned so much from my father," Amanda says, "and now I get to pass those values on: integrity, ethics, follow-through, customer service, and cementing your sign in the ground, literally." In an industry that continues to evolve, Daniels Greer Properties is proof that exceptional service never goes out of style.
