For many of us, this is the best time of year. Incredible food, seasons changing, sports, family gatherings, the list goes on. What I love most about Thanksgiving (outside of baking my famous warm apple pie and sipping hot cider!) is being able to practice gratitude and sharing what I’m thankful for with my children. Instilling those core values and letting them share what they’re thankful for is such a special experience as a parent and one of the things I look forward to most. I personally am so excited to share this November issue with you. For anyone that knows me, you know that one of my biggest passions is supporting women, especially when it comes to female entrepreneurs. This issue was such an incredible joy and honor to get to showcase some new dear friends and the amazing (& tasty!) empires they’re building. We’re so thankful to be able to feature the lovely Tiffany Reed, owner of Personalized Grazing and the amazing Alicia Lynch, owner of Cake Pops by Alli. These women are not only experts in their craft but such incredible people with selfless servant hearts in their communities. Despite their hectic schedules with large custom event orders and national publicity, they both still find time to donate and give back to the extent that we could barely make a list of everything they’ve done. You’ll find much more to be inspired by as you flip through these November pages. You’ll especially love our fall travel article by our premier travel partner, Eysa Portugues, owner of THE SPLENDID LIFE | Travel Designs. No trip is too big or too small to get our trusted expert, Eysa involved. She has amazing connections and years of industry knowledge. She can even help with last-minute getaways, she does it all! As 2022 slowly comes to a close, all of us at Trophy West Magazine want to say how thankful we are to you, our wonderful community, for all of the amazing stories you've allowed us to share and the incredible friendships that have come as a result. To show our gratitude, we hope you'll join us in celebrating you and our valued business partners at our Trophy West Launch Party on November 3rd at 6 pm hosted by our friends and premium hotel partner, Marriott Westlake. See you there and come ready to party! Cheers, CHLOE MILL ARD, PUBLISHER @TROPHY WESTCIT YLIFEST YLE

Nat ure-Inspired

Thanksgiving Ta ble s c a p e Annette Lee gathers nature’s bounty to create a simple yet elegant fall arrangement to greet your guests around the table.

As long as autumn lasts, I shall not have hands, canvas and colors enough to paint the beautiful things I see. – Vincent Van Gogh Leave it to Van Gogh to capture the perfection of fall. With nature providing an endless bounty of colors and botanicals, Annette Lee, owner of the North Richland Hills Farmers Market and master gardener extraordinaire, shows us how to build an all-natural tablescape perfect for Thanksgiving and other fall gatherings. With a focus on simplicity and casual elegance, Lee assembles a tablescape that will wow everyone from your mother-in-law to your inner Martha. The best part? Her ideas are affordable, easier than pie and materials can be found in the floral department of your grocery, farmer’s market or even your backyard. Have fun with Lee’s tablescape inspiration, knowing you can’t go wrong because you’re working with nature. Don’t be afraid to play around with color combinations, florals, plants, pumpkins and decor to match your home and style!

ST E P 1: Use your favorite tablecloth or runner for the table backdrop. Gather and place in the center of your table either: • A wood dough bowl • Thanksgiving platter • Charcuterie or cutting board

ST E P 2:

All the materials for this tablescape can be found at the grocery store!

Gather your florals and fall bounty. To craft this Thanksgiving Tablescape, Lee used: • Small to medium-sized pumpkins or squash in a variety of colors • Croton leaves (snip them from the plant) • Celosia clippings • Marigold blooms • Small succulents • Green moss (packaged) Tip: Lee used a glue gun to affix the clippings, leaves and moss to the pumpkins. Alternative ideas for tablescape materials: • Clean magnolia or oak leaves from your yard • Zinnias • Salvia • Petunias • Lantana • Blooms from a fall bouquet

ST E P 3: Choose a variety of pumpkins, gourd and squash of different sizes for your centerpiece.

14

H OW TO | HOM E + D ESIG N

Starting in the center, place your most giant pumpkin on your platter or in your dough bowl. Fill in the space around the center pumpkin with smaller pumpkins/squash, and succulents, tucking in marigolds and green moss for variety, contrast and texture. To expand the tablescape horizontally, add several smaller pumpkins flanked on each side of the main centerpiece in different colors (Lee used a combination of white and orange). To add color to the base of the centerpiece, tuck in a layer of croton leaves at an angle. As with any organic arrangement, tweak and adjust as you want to get it right. Once you’re done, don’t forget to take a moment, step back and delight in your “beautiful things.” Happy Thanksgiving!

A beautiful runner or tablecloth can serve as the perfect backdrop for your Thanksgiving Tablescape.

Special thanks to Annette Lee of the North Richland Hills Farmers Market (nrhfarmersmarket.com) for her time and talents in creating this amazing Thanksgiving Tablescape for City Lifestyle readers! We also appreciate Bobby and Laura Lee, for opening up their gorgeous home for the photo shoot.

Sugar and Spice

TIFFANY REED AND ALICIA LYNCH ARE FOLLOWING THEIR HEARTS AND FULFILLING THEIR CULINARY DREAMS WHILE GIVING BACK.

Whether donating food or their time and talents, this culinary dream team serves with their hearts.

A L IC I A LY N C H & T IF FA N Y R E E D Dynamic Duo. Sugar and Spice. Sweet and Savory. Those are just some of the two-word combinations that come to mind to describe the amazingly talented culinary team of Alicia Lynch of Cake Pops by Alli and Tiffany Reed of Personalized Grazing. They are friends, event partners and food heavyweights taking the North Texas catering scene by storm with their amazing catered spreads and sugary delights. For City Lifestyle’s first Thankful issue, we want to focus the spotlight on this entrepreneurial dream team who can support your holiday entertaining. Reed is your gal for catering events and offers personalized charcuterie boards and grazing tables – perfect for feeding crowds during the holidays. Lynch can serve any type of dessert you dream of – from scrumptious and towering cakes (like the one shown in our spread) to cookies, candy, and other sweet confections that we cannot help but indulge in this time of the year.

16

C HE F ’S SE LE CT ION | FOOD + BE VE RAGE

True to Tiffany's and Alicia's giving nature, the food used in the photo shoot was donated to the organizations mentioned in the story.

Despite their opposite natures – Reed is an introvert who loves behind-the-scenes work – while Lynch is an extrovert who doesn’t know a stranger, their yin and yang balance is key to their success and spectacular collaborations seen on these pages. For many decades, the two worked in the corporate sales world, putting in excessive overtime and achieving high levels of success, earnings and prestige. Yet, like the rest of us, the pandemic caused them to do some soul searching regarding what’s important, and they switched gears. They ditched their corporate jobs to follow their culinary passions. With their mega-watt cooking and baking talents, endless creativity and massive amounts of hard work, they are fulfilling their dreams with many “pinch-me-is-thisreal” moments. Another thing the two have in common is their generous hearts regarding giving. They work with many local charities to donate their creations. Three organizations near and dear to their hearts are: • Christ’s Haven for Children • Stepping Stone Foundation • GRACE - Grapevine Community Relief & Exchange Also, they love to support teachers with their culinary creations, with Lynch donating baked goods, while Reed donates her time and creations to many educational events. Learn more about their unique stories and culinary creations on the following pages.

C HE F ’S SE LE CT ION | FOOD + BE VE RAGE

Tiffany Reed grew up watching Julia Child over Sesame Street as a kid. She got the cooking gene from her mom, Diane, and her late grandmother, Laura. From the day she came home from the hospital, she was in the kitchen with them. They always had her around while cooking and taught her about food. The kitchen became her happy and creative place. Her background in culinary arts and nutrition gave her a great launching pad for the thriving catering business she built from scratch while holding down her demanding corporate job. She is as big-hearted as she is driven and focused. She can do it all regarding event catering and set up. When we say “all,” we mean it. Reed designs and creates the setups and executes the layouts to make some breathtaking creations. Her attention to detail is exceptional, and her level of creativity is endless. Another impressive fact is she builds her charcuterie boards herself. She has some impressive and creative boards – perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays and special occasions. She even provides engraving so you could take one as a hostess gift for a unique and fun touch. You can check out her complete gallery of charcuterie boards on her website. There’s even a charcuterie board for Santa. Along with charcuterie boards, Reed offers “grazing tables,” which are filled with hors d’oeuvres, hot dips, mini desserts and more – perfect for holiday gatherings.

CAKE POPS BY ALLI

Alicia preserves her rich culinary heritage by using family recipes in her sweet shop. Her baked goods are a way of sharing family history with new generations.

(Soon to be Alli’s Sweet Shop) CakePopsbyAlli.com What’s not to love about Alicia Lynch? She sprinkles sugar wherever she goes. She is a baking queen with her apron stuffed with recipes from her beloved Aunt Marsha, Grandmommy Davis and Great Mom Simmons. When baking, she even uses their measuring spoons and an aluminum cupcake pan to remind her of their influence. Lynch got her entrepreneurial start during the pandemic, delivering individually wrapped cake pops. Her family business now offers everything from cookies and cakes to candy and holiday goodies such as chocolate-dipped pretzel rods. Since her daughter is a teacher, she has a heart for teachers and has donated hundreds of cake pops for educators. Keep her in mind for delicious and unique teacher gifts this year. You can view her complete menu of offerings on her website at CakePopsbyAlli.com. Like Reed, she is extremely grateful for her support in the North Texas community. During the holidays, she’s been known to don her Mrs. Claus outfit and serve up sugar cookies at the City of Southlake’s Christmas Tree Lighting celebration when she isn’t busy baking. Let these amazingly talented women take the stress out of your holidays this season and cater your next event! We promise – you will not be disappointed!

Previous recipients of Around the Block in partnership with KOHL'S..

Marti Conner first got involved with Kids Matter International in 2010. A board member invited her to volunteer at a clothing event called “Around the Block” in partnership with KOHL's Department Store. It was a cold day, and Conner was touched by the many families waiting in line, braving the chilly weather for hours. The kids were wrapped in sweatshirts and blankets to keep them warm instead of coats. After that experience, Conner recalls, she volunteered annually at each event and helped with fundraising. Then her volunteer work took an unexpected turn. “In 2016, just before retiring from her career in healthcare marketing and strategic planning, I was approached by the board chairman asking if I would consider becoming president and help grow the charity strategically. I’ve served in this position ever since,” says Conner of her six-year tenure. During that time frame, Kids Matter International went from serving 750 kids annually to more than 2,000. The organization is a platinum-rated charity for six years in a row with Candid

(previously GuideStar); 87 cents of every $1 goes back to its programs. Ratings are based on financial transparency, accountability, serving a diverse population and other metrics. Conner is proud of its mission focus during this time of the year. “While many organizations focus on toys for Christmas, we focus on clothing events held every November in partnership with KOHL’S and Twisted X (shoes and boots). The kids we help desperately need warm clothes and shoes to prepare for the cold winter. Each child has $100 to spend. With the discounts and tax-free shopping, they can leave with $250-$300 in new merchandise. For most of these kids, it’s the first time they have new clothes versus hand-me-downs or clothes from a secondhand store,” says Conner. Kids Matter needs volunteers year-round, but its greatest need is during the clothing events held the first three weekends in November. Volunteers shop with the kids and keep up with how much is being spent to ensure they maximize the $100. It’s an unforgettable experience not only for the kids but also for the volunteers. Your Autumn Dinner Party Is Served Catering experts Chef Kyle and Hannah Williams, owners of Savor & Swirl culinary company, create an outdoor dinner party with chef-driven perennial dishes served in beautiful seasonal settings.

For this alfresco Autumn Dinner Party, Chef Kyle draws on favorite fall recipes updated for a modern palate and paired with wine selections to complement the bountiful feast. Hannah creates an iconic autumn ambiance using artisanal table settings and mixed flannels for each guest to blanket any chill on a brisk evening. Whether for Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving or a new November tradition, it’s time to get outdoors again surrounded in sweater-weather coziness while sharing bites and clinks with family and friends.

Insider Tips for Hosting:

• Build a menu around the season. “In November, people crave turkey, sage stuffing and cranberry sauce,” Chef Kyle says. “Autumn dinners mean bigger-course meals with varied proteins, like turkey, duck and sirloin, hearty starches, and good fall produce, especially root vegetables such as butternut squash and pumpkin.” • Always greet guests with a beverage and appetizers. “Offer champagne for wine-lovers or a sparkling drink or signature cocktail. It’s all about serving guests to the highest caliber,” Kyle says. • Draw inspiration from the season’s changing colors, cooler temps and lower humidity to move back outdoors. “Think flannel blankets, wooden tables, fire pits, open grills, string lights and candles to create a really cool environment you haven’t been able to do all summer.” • “You can’t go wrong with fresh flowers,” Hannah says, “but keep bouquets low to not interfere with conversation flowing. For fall, I like richer, jewel-toned florals to mix and match and keep whimsical. I vary glass vases with burnished brass for warm fall vibes.” • An easy but thoughtful detail is to put a simple menu at each place setting, so guests know what to expect. “Add a pen, so guests can jot tasting notes, especially for wine pairings or multiple courses,” Hannah says. “Guests can share comments, then take the menu home as a sweet reminder of the event.” • Follow the French principle of mise en place or everything in place before your event. “This is actually our company’s name,” Kyle says. “It’s that important to us. Make sure the wines are all open, cocktails are pre-made, place settings are out, candles are lit and music is playing. When guests arrive, it gives that wow-factor and shows you intentionally made them feel special.” • To build confidence as a host, start small and practice. “Keep the menu and guest list small,” Kyle says. “Choose recipes you already have confidence in. If you make a great Beef Stroganoff, then go with that.
