Second Chance’s Wreckers Ball Second Chance’s signature event, the Wreckers Ball, was held on Oct. 13. Guests enjoyed live music, dancing, games, a silent auction, a raffle and more. Towson Chamber of Commerce’s Taste of Towson The Eighth Annual Taste of Towson was held on Thursday, Sept. 20 at Towson University’s SECU Arena, featuring culinary delights from 30 of Towson’s favorite restaurants. More than 500 guests were treated to everything from the Charmery’s ice cream concoctions to Charles Village Pub’s famous bacon-wrapped shrimp. A NEW BAKE SHOP FOR MOM'S In October, MOM’s Organic Market opened MOM’s Bake Shop in a space adjacent to the MOM’s store at Yorkridge Shopping Center in Lutherville. The bake shop offers organic vegetarian and vegan sandwiches, raw juices and muffins. The shop's organic bread (baked in-house) is made from heirloom grains and live starters. “We have been anticipating the opening of the Bake Shop for months, so we are thrilled that it is now open to customers,” said Mark Renbaum, CEO of Schwaber Holdings. “The addition of the Bake Shop will give shoppers another great option for a healthy lunch as well as organic, fresh baked bread. ONE MAGICAL NIGHT EACH YEAR, VISITORS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO STEP BACK IN TIME AT HOMEWOOD MUSEUM ON THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, EXPERIENCING THE FESTIVE HOLIDAY SPIRIT OF LIFE AS IT WAS LIVED BY THE AFFLUENT CHARLES CARROLL FAMILY IN THE EARLY 1800S. The Palladian-style, Federal-era mansion was built for Charles Carroll of Homewood (son of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence), his wife, Harriet Chew Carrollton, and their five children, and the family used it as their country home during the first quarter of the 19th century. At the Homewood by Candlelight open house on Dec. 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., visitors may tour the furnished period rooms festooned with boxwood and garlands, enjoy seasonal refreshments in the wine cellar and do some holiday shopping in the gift shop. Homewood House remained in the Carroll family until 1838, when it was sold to wealthy Baltimore merchant William Wyman. In the early 1900s, the rapidly growing Johns Hopkins University moved from downtown to the former site of the estate, taking the house's moniker as the name of its new campus. Today a National Historic Landmark, Homewood House served as the architectural inspiration for the many university buildings that sprang up around it.

Towson graphic designer Laura LeBrun Hatcher discovered Bead Wear at 29 Allegheny Ave. in Towson about a year ago and was immediately smitten. “It’s a tiny little jewel box of a place with beautiful handmade jewelry created by shop owner Patti Hall and other really unique pieces by local artisans, including vintage handbags and tiny paintings,” says Laura, an adjunct professor who is also active with Little Lobbyists, a grassroots group that advocates for children with complex medical needs like her son, Simon. Patti has operated Bead Wear for more than 15 years. She uses part of the shop for her jewelry-making. “I’ve tried to create a store with an art gallery feel to it—but not the heavy price tag,” she says. 18
