Around here, the holidays feel like home. The Thompson’s Station Tree Lighting at Sarah Benson Park, the Spring Hill Christmas Parade, holiday markets at White Hall, and neighborhoods glowing at dusk—these traditions connect us year after year. I love the energy of this season—the comfort of familiar rituals are small, yet anchor us. Whether it be watching The Grinch again, St. Nick treats tucked into shoes, or the advent calendar that stays taped (and re-taped) to the fridge... we all celebrate differently. Families look different. Traditions look different. Giving looks different—it could be opening your home, donating to a local pantry, or simply checking in on someone who might need to feel remembered this month, it all matters. What makes this community special is the way we show up for one another—in both big ways and quiet ones! Wishing you a season of connection, celebration, and the traditions that feel like yours. A Look Inside Local Nonprofit, The Well Outreach, And Their Dedication To Provide Hope And End Hunger
ARTICLE BY STACEY BARRETT
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY THE WELL OUTREACH
The Well Outreach, based in Spring Hill, was designed to inspire neighbors and bring hope to people all over. What started as a neighborhood pantry quickly grew into one of Middle Tennessee’s most effective, joyful engines of community care. Providing food for the hungry in our community, The Well Outreach fully recognizes the dignity of each person who comes to them with a need— they welcome them, listen to them, pray with them, and provide personal accompaniment and client choice as they shop for food. Operating without any geographical boundaries, the organization ensures that anyone who visits will be provided with food.
The Well Outreach began in 2006 as a food pantry in a local church with the goal of showing God’s love by giving food to those in need. Two years later, they began mobile food pantries as an effort to provide access to food outside of their pantry location and hours. After becoming an official nonprofit in 2009, both the team and community rallied to serve. In 2016, they acquired their first standalone space within a strip mall along Main Street in Spring Hill. It was 1500 square feet and the doorways were too narrow for them to bring food in by the pallet—so they relocated down the street, expanding their footprint to 7000 square feet. Over the past few years, they have developed family coaching, a second food pantry in Mount Pleasant, and have over 400 volunteers help them each week.
In the past six years alone, The Well has expanded from serving about 200 families a month to more than 2,300 families each month. Shelly Sassen, CEO of The Well Outreach, highlights the positivity and welcoming spirit The Well Outreach holds. Each day, volunteers are cheerful, helpful, and sincerely guest-focused—greeting guests by name, personal shoppers slow down long enough to listen, and small kindnesses are everywhere.
“Our goal isn’t just to give away food, our goal is to give hope,” Sassen shares.
of Giving The Season
The Well purchases strategically through regional food banks and rescues food from twenty-one grocery stores each week—items nearing their ‘sell-by’ date, discontinued products, and seasonal overages. Because of these partnerships, every dollar The Well spends on food can unlock up to ten dollars in food value through discounted purchasing and donated product. People often ask whether food or money helps more—and the answer is both. Food donations provide variety and can be routed quickly to where it’s most needed, while financial gifts let The Well buy exactly what’s missing, precisely when it’s needed— and stretch those dollars dramatically. The shelves of The Well feature items such as produce and proteins, family staples, and kid-friendly choices.

HAVE A CUP OF CHEER
SERVING TWO TOWNS, ONE CUP AT A TIME, WHITE SHEPHERD BRINGS A WARM FAMILY WELCOME.
White Shepherd Coffee is more than a place to grab a latte; it’s a new chapter for Adam and Kristi Sturgeon as they build community one cup at a time. What began as a mobile coffee trailer quickly grew into something bigger. Locals kept returning, not just for drinks, but for the sense of connection. Within a year of making the move to Spring Hill from Southern California in 2022, the couple opened their first trailer with the hopes and dreams of combining their love for coffee and community. With lots of prayers and support from their neighbors,

White Shepherd developed into a standalone coffee shop and before they knew it, a second mobile coffee shop was in the works. With years of passion and hard work coming to fruition, the pair were able to open their second storefront location in Spring of 2025, nestled in the center of the Tollgate Village Business Development.
White Shepherd honors both family and service, acting as a nod to their beloved dogs and Adam’s years of service as Sergeant for the Long Beach Police Department. A patch wall inside both shops reflects his law enforcement history and the connections they continue to
build within the community. Family is at the heart of all they do at White Shepherd; Adam and Kristi work hard to run the business, while Adam’s parents lend immense support and guidance. Even their oldest daughter is stepping behind the counter, learning the ropes and becoming part of the family operation. Sourced from a roaster in Washington, White Shepherd’s organic beans come from Ethiopia, Guatemala and beyond. Their signature drink, the White Shepherd, is a white chocolate blend inspired by his father’s favorite candy, Almond Joy, but their real specialty is the atmosphere—warm, welcoming and

full of local spirit. Guests can also enjoy a menu of homemade breakfast and lunch items, making White Shepherd a place to linger, connect and relish every visit.
"We can't put into words how much we appreciate our staff who feel like family," Kristi shares. "They are a true extension of our vision and love for community. We couldn't do it without them!"
The holiday season is a truly magical time at White Shepherd, where Kristi transforms the space with cozy, festive décor that captures the warmth of the season. Guests can enjoy a delightful selection of seasonal favorites, including the fan-favorite peppermint mocha, rich flavored hot chocolates, and comforting spiced cider. The White Shepherd team
loves seeing their shop come alive with holiday cheer—and this year is especially exciting as they celebrate their very first holiday season at Tollgate Village!
"It will be fun to see the regulars and neighborhood families come in and experience the season with us," Kristi shares. "Whether it's taking pictures with the Christmas tree or ordering a new seasonal drink, [I'm looking forward] to be living through a new season with a new community!"
In addition to their locations, White Shepherd Coffee is proud to bring bold, exceptional coffee directly to your private parties, community events, and employee or customer appreciation gatherings, ensuring a memorable experience with every sip. With two fully equipped, stateof-the-art mobile units, the team is ready to serve your guests wherever you choose to celebrate, delivering an unforgettable coffee experience that fuels genuine connection and lively celebration.
Over the Holiday season, White Shepherd Coffee is excited to partake in several festive events for the community to enjoy! Be sure to keep a look out on their website, www. whiteshepherdcoffee.com or follow them on socials @whiteshepherdcoffee to be the first to know.

Additionally, their licensed physical therapists are committed to championing each patient through their recovery process by providing expert guidance right in their community. Andrea Pierce, PT, and Angel Shipman, PTA—both longtime Spring Hill residents—lead the physical therapy team in Spring Hill, while Randy Hill, PT, ATC, oversees rehabilitation services in Thompson’s Station, bringing more than 35 years of experience to the field. By combining evidence-based rehabilitation practices with cutting-edge techniques, their therapists help patients regain strength and confidence close to home and family.
Should you need specialized orthopaedic care, Matt Anderson, M.D., Preet Gurusamy, M.D., Saurabh Mehta, M.D., and Keith Granger, D.O., also see patients at the Spring Hill Port Royal Road location, specializing in sports medicine and shoulder and elbow care,
hip and knee replacement with robotic-assisted techniques, hand and wrist treatment, and non-operative spine care, respectively. By providing convenient sub-specialized care in satellite locations, like Spring Hill, Bone and Joint Institute creates opportunities for patients to experience a more streamlined approach to orthopaedics by reducing excess travel.
