Williamson Health Reveals New Website Williamson Health has overhauled its website to make it easier for patients and visitors to learn about and navigate the variety of services the expanding regional health system offers. The site, now live at WilliamsonHealth.org, features a simple and more organized design including Williamson Health’s new colors and logo that debuted in its new brand launch earlier this year. City of Spring Hill Fire Department Awarded $3.1 Million Grant The Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) awarded a $3.1 million dollar grant to the city of Spring Hill for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER). The purpose of the SAFER Grant is to provide funding directly to fire departments to assist in increasing the number of firefighters to help communities meet industry minimum standards and attain 24-hour staffing to provide adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards. A NEW HOLIDAY TR ADITION Sing, Dance and Read Along To A Christmas Cookie Musical

Carissa Biele is a local country artist, script writer, author, entertainer, and mom. The former morning news anchor wrote A Christmas Cookie Musical, a children’s storybook with accompanying soundtrack. It’s the perfect story to dive into with your family this holiday season.

TS: WHAT INSPIRED THE STORY AND MUSIC FOR A CHRISTMAS COOKIE MUSICAL? CB: During COVID-19, I focused on song and scriptwriting. As the holidays approached, I thought about past family traditions, like baking cookies and making candy. During this time, I leaned on inspirational sayings like “All things are possible to those who believe,” which is the subtle message of the story. All these thoughts led my subconscious to come up with the story idea for the book one night. I told myself as I was creating [the story and the music] that I would have a child to read the book to one day, and I am so grateful to share it with my boy for the first time this year.

TS: WHAT ARE SOME FUN TRADITIONS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAD/ HAVE DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON? CB: As a child, I remember singing Christmas songs while watching holiday movies and decorating the tree while my mom baked. I plan to add my twist on baking Christmas cookies—we will have matching baking aprons, and be sure to sing and dance while we bake cookies for Santa, just like the Cookie Crew in the book.

TS: IS THERE ANYONE THAT HELPED YOU WITH THE BOOK AND MUSIC? CB: One guy, Steven Farella, created all of the backing tracks. He is super talented and played all the instruments himself. All but one character are voices from the Christ Church choir, including mine. Derwin Hinson, a professional singing Santa, had the deep bluesy sound I heard for the song, “The Sick Reindeer Blues.” I grew up with the illustrator Joshua Potter, who sketched the entire story by hand and colored it digitally. The illustration was the most time-consuming part of the project, so I appreciate him sharing his talent.

TS: WHAT PROJECTS DO YOU HAVE IN THE WORKS RIGHT NOW? CB: I want to figure out how to get this story animated, released to a network or streaming service, and watch it with my boy next year at Christmas. Aside from my songwriting, there is a television show concept I’m pitching in hopes of seeing it in production in the future too.

True pioneers need a vision, determination, and the courage to challenge the status quo. Dr. Somi Javaid and Komel Caruso are no exception. This dynamic sister team is on a mission to change the women’s healthcare landscape. Born and raised in Ohio, Somi and Komel did not envision that, one day, they would serve a fundamental role in the women’s healthcare revolution. Although Somi had always been interested in the field of medicine, it wasn’t until she was a pre-medical student at Northwestern University and a major family health scare solidified her decision. At the age of 45, her mother was rushed to a hospital for emergency quadruple bypass surgery. “Despite her constant plea for help in the days leading up to her surgery, my mother was told her chest pain, left arm pain, and shortness of breath were due to anxiety and caffeine consumption. No one listened to her as she described the classic symptoms of heart disease. We lost valuable time with my mother due to the repeated delays in her diagnosis,” notes Somi. From that point, Somi made it her life’s mission to advocate for women. She became an OBGYN, and later, a specialist in menopause and sexual healthcare. As an OBGYN, Somi worked long and grueling hours. Typically, each patient appointment was slotted for 15 minutes, not nearly enough time to listen to concerns and offer comprehensive care. Frustrated with the broken healthcare system, Somi decided it was time for a change. She wrote up a business plan for a healthcare center focused on women’s needs and the first HerMD opened in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2015. began consulting for HerMD, driving patients and national brand recognition to the first location. Somi and Komel noticed that once women learned of the unique HerMD model, which includes 20 to 60-minute appointments, they were willing to drive, even from another state, for an appointment. HerMD provides a “one-stop-shop” for patients seeking personalized care under one roof. In addition to specialized women’s healthcare, HerMD locations are equipped with phlebotomy, surgical, and imaging services. To top it off, HerMD offers medical aesthetics services, because many women who struggle with healthcare issues also struggle with aesthetic issues. HerMD

prides itself on accessibility. “We accept most major insurance plans, so it makes the care affordable,” Caruso adds. Somi and Komel decided to bring the HerMD model to women nationwide. Kathy Lai, joined them as one of the three co-founders of HerMD and provides financial and strategic expertise to the growing business. HerMD expanded to Crescent Springs, Kentucky in 2021 and although the odds were stacked against them being women and minorities, in 2022, the co-founders were able to fundraise $10 million for additional expansion efforts. HerMD has since opened locations right here in Franklin and in Carmel, Indiana. Another location opened in New Jersey last summer.

In support of its goal to educate, empower and advocate for women, HerMD offers free educational events and multimedia resources, such as the HerMD podcast, HerVoice. Routine community events also occur at each HerMD market location. “There is a big void to be filled,” Somi says. “Only 20 percent of OBGYNs are trained in sexual health and menopause.” Komel further advises women to “find their tribe.” She encourages women to talk more about their healthcare issues and learn from one another. HerMD’s founders say they hope they can help eliminate gender disparity in healthcare, as well as the stigma surrounding women’s personal healthcare needs and topics historically considered “taboo.” HerMD.com

Actress Danica McKellar is perhaps best known for her role as Winnie Cooper in the hit ABC-TV series The Wonder Years, but McKellar has now made a home for herself on the Great American Family (GAF) network. McKellar left Hallmark Channel not long after Hallmark’s former CEO Bill Abbott left to start Great American Family in 2020. McKellar had been a a holiday movie queen and a veteran of the network since 2015. McKellar says of the move, “It didn’t really

feel like a big change. It just felt like following Bill. The biggest difference is that I now have a multi-picture deal where I’m also a very involved producer, so that makes it a much different experience. I’m much more hands on and it’s not just a title. McKellar says, “It is such a charming, sweet movie filled with joy and love and romance. There’s something really special between me and my co-star Damon Runyan. He’s just one of these really deep actors. I couldn’t be more thrilled with this movie. And as executive producer, I got to watch all these different takes of the scenes and I was so struck by how special they were.” A Royal Date For Christmas is one of the 21 (and counting) original new films for Great American Family’s Great American Christmas (the network’s signature franchise), which returned in October with new holiday movie premieres every Saturday and Sunday and 24/7 Christmas movies through the end of the year. A Royal Date For Christmas premiered on November 25 and will run throughout the month of December on GAF. McKellar, her husband Scott and son Draco made the move to Tennessee last year. “We love it here so much. I lived in California my entire life. It was just time. As soon as we were able to go, we left. We were ready for nature. We were ready for more beauty trees and horses, lush and beautiful. If you’re looking in the distance, it’s just mountains and hills and beauty. I didn’t realize you could love where you live so much. Don’t get me wrong. I love New York, I love Los Angeles, I love cities, but I love them in smaller doses now. I like to visit. Coming back to a peaceful, idyllic scenery is such a luxury and so wonderful.” While McKellar is loving her new life in Tennessee and continues to entertain as an actress, she is equally celebrated for her contributions to math education for young minds. McKellar Math (McKellarMath.com) was born in 2007, a few years after Danica spoke before a Congressional Committee about why kids in the United States are far behind kids of many other countries in math scores, and why girls especially begin to shy away from math in middle school.

Live reindeer, miles of light displays and delicious gourmet treats are just a few of the magical Christmas offerings for visitors to Santa Claus, Indiana. About two and a half hours north of Nashville, the town has loads of unique shopping, vibrant local restaurants and family-friendly activities such as cookie decorating. “The holiday season in a town called Santa Claus is pretty spectacular!,” shares Melissa Arnold, Executive Director of the Spencer County Visitors Bureau. Wintertime festivities begin the first weekend in December with the Santa Claus Christmas Celebration, followed the next weekend by the Santa Claus Christmas Parade as well as an arts and crafts show. “There is a lot you can see and do at no charge,” Arnold continues, such as seeing the reindeer and writing a letter to Santa. “Santa and his elves respond to every letter. We also do a wonderful chestnut roasting on Saturdays, just like the song, and learn about that longstanding American tradition.” Among the paid activities are a special Christmas dinner with Santa at his lodge and the Land of Lights, a 1.2mile driving journey that tells the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in giant, brilliant LED light displays with storyboards. “It’s a really neat event to get you in the spirit for the holidays,” Arnold adds. Additional entertainment includes musical concerts, Storytime with Mrs. Claus, food trucks and the Festival of Lights, a nine-mile residential Christmas lights tour through a gated community that is open to the public on select Saturdays in December. “It is magical when we get a blanket of snow,” says Arnold, who reminds everyone to dress warmly.

Visitors can enjoy a museum dedicated to the history of the town. According to local legend, the town’s name dates back to the 1800s, when it was called Santa Fe. But when the residents applied for an official post office, they were denied because there was another Santa Fe, Indiana. Many other names were suggested but nothing seemed to fit. On Christmas Eve the townspeople gathered for church in a log cabin. Suddenly a gust of wind blew open the doors of the church and the children shrieked excitedly, “Santa Claus is here!” The townspeople took this as a sign and agreed that Santa Fe would become known as Santa Claus. Another bright spot in the area’s history is that Abraham Lincoln spent his formative years in Spencer County. The story of young Abe’s early life in Indiana is revisited at the popular Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. Among the numerous shopping options are Santa’s Candy Castle for homemade confections and gourmet hot chocolate, the giant Santa Claus Christmas Store for ornaments and decorations, and the can’t-miss Santa’s Toy store. Santa Claus is close enough for a day trip from Nashville. For tourists choosing to spend the night, overnight accommodations include Santa’s Lodge or the Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph with cottages, RV parking and tent sites. One of Santa Claus’ most famous attractions, Holiday World amusement park, is closed during the winter months. But tourists can take advantage of another wintertime option—Paoli Peaks ski resort, about an hour from Santa Claus. Or head east to Louisville, home of the Louisville Slugger Museum, world-famous horse racing and the Bourbon Trail. SantaClausInd.org
