Franklin's D1 to Open Spring Hill Location D1 Training, a fitness facility based on the concept of the five core tenets of athletic-based training, announced that they will be opening a Spring Hill location on June 13th. The new facility will be located at 1006 Crossings Blvd. Gary Fischer is the newest franchisee owner joining the likes of Tim Tebow, Peyton Manning, Michael Oher and Von Miller. Pickin’ in the Park is entering its 10th year of pickin.’ Historically based in Spring Hill's Harvey Park, their new, second venue, Sarah Benson Park, is in Thompson’s Station. And that’s before you even see your orthodontist! But it doesn’t have to be that way. Dr. Wes Chladny of Spring Hill’s Dr. Wes Orthodontics offers a unique patient-centric blend of upscale amenities, state-of-the-art technology and personalized care he calls “The Dr. Wes Way.” After running a traditional, large, busy orthodontic practice for over 10 years, Dr. Wes says he learned there is a better way for patients. One that puts the focus back on quality time with patients, accessibility and the doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Wes and his family moved to Thompson’s Station in 2018 to build a new kind of orthodontic practice. From the moment you walk in the door, you’ll notice a difference. I see each patient individually, handle the patient care myself and communicate directly with patients and parents every visit. There are no layers. We’re parents and this kind of personal orthodontic care is what we’d want for our kids.” Dr. Wes isn't interested in having the largest and busiest practice in town. Quite the opposite. “By limiting the number of patients we see each day, the reception and treatment areas are calm and inviting,

patients are seen on time and visits are unhurried,” he says. “We have one full time location in the town where we are raising our own family, so I am just up the road and accessible. This allows us to be completely invested in serving the community where we live and provide families like ours a consistent and individualized experience.” Dr. Wes sees patients of all ages, but about two-thirds of them are children. Treatments include traditional braces and custom wires along with Invisalign and in-house clear aligners that Dr. Wes creates in his own lab. Treatment duration varies but most are completed in the 18–20- month range. “No two patients are alike, so all of our treatment plans are individualized,” he says. “We use our wealth of experience with cutting edge technologies, including digital simulations, robotically bent wires and 3D printing to deliver results that are completely customized. “Buying the store was a blessing to us in so many ways, allowing me more time for our family,” she explains. “I am the day to day. My husband would tell you it’s all me, but he is a huge part of the success because he handles a lot of the behind the scenes.”

There’s nothing sweeter than a frozen treat on a hot summer day and there’s no better place to find one than at favorite local shop Sweet CeCe’s. Since the spring of 2021, Alyson Sherwin—owner of the Spring Hill Sweet CeCe’s location on Crossings Boulevard—has been carrying on the vision and legacy of entrepreneur CeCe McCormick, who started Sweet CeCe’s in 2009 with the first shops in Belle Meade and Franklin before expanding across Middle Tennessee. “I want everyone to feel welcome, excited, and enjoy time with friends and family over some delicious frozen yogurt,” says Sherwin. “We love it when families come in and we get to share in the absolute excitement that the kids experience while in our store. From the moment they get their cup of yogurt and realize they get to choose from over 50 toppings, the looks on their faces are priceless—we have even seen those looks on a few adults, as well! I try very hard to keep the store and the feeling of the store in line with the vision that CeCe herself had, and that is as if Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory came to life.” While Sherwin now serves the community by providing smiles and sweet treats, she has had a long career of helping those in need. After graduating with a degree in Family and Consumer Science from Lipscomb University, she worked as a court advocate at a domestic violence shelter assisting women through the legal process and facilitating support groups. She later went on to serve as a victim witness coordinator for the District Attorney's office in Nashville on the domestic docket before transitioning to criminal court. After taking some time to stay home with her two young daughters, she worked as a loan officer for five years before branching out into something entirely new: owning and operating her Sweet CeCe’s location. Running a business is not for the faint of heart, but for Sherwin, it’s her family that keeps her going. “Buying the store was a blessing to us in so many ways, allowing me more time for our family,” she explains. “I am the day to day. My husband would tell you it’s all me, but he is a huge part of the success because he handles a lot of the behind the scenes.” Their teamwork has given them the opportunity to spend more time with their four kids and “build something special together.” Sherwin takes pride in bringing joy to the local community and serving those that have supported her each step of the way. “Middle Tennessee has been home to me my whole life,” says Sherwin. “I have seen the landscape of our area change and grow in exciting ways over the years. There are so many opportunities for large scale businesses, as well as small [businesses] like ours, to thrive. Josh Groban said “After two years of sitting around {due to Covid}, everybody just shot out of a cannon.” The multi-platinum singer/ songwriter himself is among those feeling pumped and energetic, as he has been on the road since June 7 and will be touring through August, including a stop in Franklin’s FirstBank Amphitheater on July 19. His favorite part about being on the road? “The connectivity. Ever since I was a little kid, whether I was doing musical theatre or a showcase for the school class, there is something about the feeling of sharing in a musical connection that is unlike anything else. And it’s the gift of travel, being able see the country, drive across America and see all the amazing, beautiful cities and catch as many baseball games as I can. Seeing all those faces. Oftentimes, music can be isolating. You’re in a hotel room, on a tour bus, back home. It’s a perspective giver to get out and see who’s there and who wants to be there and to hear you. It gives you everything you need.”

When he stops in Franklin for his Harmony tour, fans can expect him to sing some classics. Groban says, “At this point I can’t believe I have so many songs to choose from when I put a set list together. They’re all my children. It’s always really gratifying to sing music that I wrote, that came from the heart, so sitting down and playing the piano and playing songs that started as a thought in my room is a really cool feeling. But I also love singing classics like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” When you get full orchestrations like that, there’s something about those classics that continue to move you.” With one of the most dynamic voices of a generation, you’d think the 41-year-old has been singing since he was in the womb. But he didn’t start singing until he was 13-years-old. Groban says, “I always knew I liked to sing, but I was very shy, kind of an introvert who had a hard time making friends. I was just inside myself. I thought I’d join the choir and sit in the back row and just kind of blend in. But there was a teacher that encouraged something in me, and he gave me a solo. Groban never forgot him. “When I was doing my residency at Radio City Music Hall, I flew that teacher out to New York City and gave him a big shout out. He realized that singing and music was a language for me that would

bring me out of my shell. And I haven’t looked back since.” Groban has been fortunate to sing over the years with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Faith Hill, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Maclachlan, Celine Dion, Audra McDonald and many more. “I know I’ve been spoiled by the voices I’ve been able to meld with. I’ve always wanted to perform with Bjork - I’ve been obsessed with her since I was a kid. There are some incredible new artists I’d love to collaborate with. Charlie Puth is an incredible songwriter. Carrie Underwood, whose voice I love a lot. Lots of great vocalists.” Groban's been acting in diverse and random roles since 2011. He says, "I was an acting major in college before I was discovered as a singer. I love disappearing into roles. I love reaching people through storytelling. And that can happen through a great script or a great song. It doesn’t have to be something you experience personally, but you want to tell the story. My acting portfolio is a lot more diverse than the singing. I love doing stuff that’s a little bit different than the music." Brad Rempel, frontman for High Valley grew up in Northern Canada (near Juneau, Alaska) but says Williamson County is “one of the most beautiful places he’s ever been.” So it’s no surprise that he and his family decided to build a breathtaking cottage in Spring Hill, not far from the home they purchased. “I grew up farming {in northern Canada} so when we moved out here to Spring Hill, even though we have three acres, it was still very different than where I grew up. I’d ride my dirt bike just trying to find some wide open spaces.”

While he was out riding his bike, Rempel, who says he has nothing in common with a normal Canadian upbringing, continues, “One day, nine years ago, I saw an actual cattle drive. Guys on horses getting cattle down to a pond.” Clearly, that sight intrigued him enough to want to own the land. “We kept our eyes on the property. When it became available, we bought a little bit. And as the years went on, we bought more. We’d ride our dirt bikes there and I promised I’d build a shed to leave the dirt bikes. That shed grew into a garage. That garage escalated into having a bathroom.

Then Covid hit and music row shut down all the recording studios. So we then decided to add a little creative writing space.” And the Cottage at the Ridge was born. Rempel says, “We posted it online. Then word spread and it snowballed.” Luke Combs spent some time at the property. Brittany Aldean did a photo shoot there. Rempel adds, “I feel like everyone has stayed there!” You too, can stay there, as the Rempel family has the cottage listed on AirBNB. Rempel describes the property as “modern farmhouse, but 90% modern and 10% farmhouse.” He and his wife Rebekah worked together designing and creating the aesthetic. “The view is my favorite. It feels like you’re not in Spring Hill but that you took a trip. It only takes me 10 minutes to get there from my home but I feel like I’m in the mountains. There’s so much beauty in it. It’s a phenomenal place to be.” On the music side, High Valley has just released their newest album, "Way Back," where Rempel says, fans chose their music. “I’ve always given our fans a lot of credit for choosing our music.” Rempel co-wrote all 13 of the album’s tracks. “I write - that’s what I do. I love when other people record my songs. It’s the biggest compliment. For my High Valley projects, it’s very much about faith, family and country music. I draw inspiration from nostalgia and from my actual everyday life. I take my kids to basketball, football and baseball games every day and pray every night that they don’t grow up too fast and live forever.” Rempel co-wrote “World Could Use A Dirt Road” about the dirt road they had to dig out and build to get to the cottage. He says, “This is what everybody needs. It’s therapeutic and could help us all out right now.” HighValleyMusic.com

Born and raised in Sumner County in Middle Tennessee, Teresa Kurowski suffered from severe allergies that continued to worsen over the years.
