The following crowd-pleasing recipes taste like they’re made with a lot of effort, but couldn’t be simpler! B LT – B O UR B O N, L IME + T O NIC Cool and refreshing this cocktail will be an instant hit! DIRECTIONS 1. Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice 2. Add a shot of bourbon {Dad’s preference} 3. Juice of one lime wedge and a lime 4. Top with tonic to taste 5. Stir 6. Garnish with additional lime as desired

DIRECTIONS 1. Place 4 pounds of pork butt, cut into 3 large chunks in crockpot 2. Add one diced white onion 3. 1 tablespoon chili powder or chipotle chili powder 4. 2 teaspoons both oregano and cumin 5. 1 teaspoon kosher salt 6. Zest and juice of one navel orange 7. Slowly top with one 12-ounce beer- preferably Blue Moon and stir slightly to combine spices 8. Cook on low for 6 hours, high for 4 hours 9. Once pork is cooked, shred pork using two forks and place on sheet pan. Add ¼ cup- ½ cup of liquid from crockpot to the pan. Place under broiler until edges are crispy and delicious (5-6 minutes). Serve with your favorite Mexican accompaniments - items for tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas or bowls. For a quick change up, try sour cream and BBQ sauce instead of salsa in your taco.

The abandoned site used to build part of Interstate 65 in the early 1960s, once full of litter and loiterers, is now home to Thompson’s Station’s Graystone Quarry and FirstBank Amphitheater – an event venue that dreams are made of and a music venue that’s unlike any other in the United States. Acres of sprawling beauty now surround the limestone quarry. Owners Rick and Nancy McEachern discovered the quarry as it sat full of abandoned car parts, tires, wires and, by night, some seedy visitors. They heard of crimes like car thieving rings and drug activity and even rumored tales of moonshiners and of train robbers staging horses there from long ago. Not a trace of that can be seen there today. After six months of clean-up, an estimated 900 tons of trash were pulled from the land, including 245 tires! Being good neighbors is important to the McEacherns, and the clean-up has been greatly appreciated. “This is a largely generational neighborhood, and we want them all to be proud and happy that we’re here and to be good neighbors to them,” said Nancy. Having built these magnificent venues from the rocks up, they have kept the community as one of their greatest interests by using as many

resources as possible from the quarry land and surrounding artisans and businesses. The property’s own eco-friendly water treatment plant was built on site which allows them to purify their own water. Cement culverts left in the quarry from the construction of the interstate were crushed to pave the roads throughout the property. Wood used to build different structures throughout the venues is all locally grown and milled by a family mill located in Williamson County. All stone found around the landscape and in the buildings came from the quarry itself. And to top it all off, the amphitheater is plastic-free. Anything tossed by visitors is either recyclable aluminum or compostable. The wholesomeness is matched only by the beauty and the quality. Graystone Quarry is an event space unlike any other. If historic homes and rustic barn weddings aren’t your style, maybe a wedding photo by a dazzling quarry pond with a romantic 20-foot waterfall will better suit you. and double staircase – all tucked into the romantic landscape of the quarry. Maybe this isn’t your year for a wedding, but it’s definitely the year for a concert at the world-class FirstBank Amphitheater. This season, FirstBank will host artists such as Steely Dan, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Willie Nelson & Family, just to name a few, having already welcomed Miranda Lambert and Halsey. Walking through the quarry, the amphitheater is almost unnoticeable until the sound and scenery suddenly open up before you. A concert in a quarry amphitheater is a stunning experience. Colored lighting wraps the rock walls of the amphitheater creating the ultimate concert mood lighting. Each of the 7,500 seats available offer a great view of the stage and great sound. Cliffside suites include in-seat service and the use of a private bar, and concessions offer a wide range of elevated southern fare. Last but not least, the venue plans to widen the roads leading from Lewisburg Pike (TN-431) to the entrance of the amphitheater, reducing traffic and allowing for faster travel to and from the venue. New lanes should be complete midway through this year’s concert season. Downtown Franklin is made up of many charming, memorable places, but for Country artist Jimmie Allen, Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant will always be a particularly special place that changed his life forever. During his days aspiring toward a career in music, Allen was working at a gym and was introduced by a coworker to songwriter Chris Caminiti, who happened to be hosting a songwriters’ round at Puckett’s and needed two more songwriters to fill the slots. Allen played the round and it was there that he met fellow songwriter Ash Bowers, who signed Allen to his first publishing deal only a week later. “The crazy thing is we were actually both fill-ins because he [Caminiti] had two people cancel,” remembers Allen. “I wasn’t supposed to be there, and neither was Ash. It was crazy.” While some could say playing the songwriters’ round that day was fate, Allen has spent his life chasing music and makes it a point to show up every chance he gets an opportunity in life. “You never know which opportunity will be the opportunity that you’ve been waiting for,” says Allen. For the now highly successful artist, music was always the dream. There was never a backup plan for the humble yet confident and driven Allen, who moved to Nashville in 2007 and signed his record deal in 2017. “People ask me, ‘Well Jimmie, did you ever think in a million years you’d be doing what you’re doing now?,’” shares Allen. “Yes, I did – that’s why I put the work in. Nobody puts the work in to fail. Plan B is a distraction from Plan A. It’s impossible to give the career everything you need when you’re splitting it between two. But I feel like if you believe in yourself, you should just go for it.” The 2021 ACM New Male Artist of the Year and CMA New Artist of the Year’s rise to fame may appear as an overnight success to some, but the multi-Platinum selling country artist has had this vision for years, planning down to the most specific details of what he wanted his career to look like, and has made it a point to stay true to himself and do things his way from the very beginning. “I have a binder. It’s in the attic in my house. I created it in 2011. So everything I’m doing now is a part of a plan,” he shares. “In 2011, I kind of wrote out a landscape of how I wanted my career to go and that’s what I’ve been doing," He’s accomplished so many of the steps he mapped out over a decade ago, from releasing singles and playing on national television to later hosting shows, winning country music awards, and even being nominated for a GRAMMY. While he has accomplished so much already, Allen is continuing to look at the endless possibilities the future holds for him. “The next plan that I’m working on now is a reality show. I’m working on sitcoms, movies, a clothing brand is next. There are two shoe companies that I’m talking to. I want to be the very first country artist with

a sneaker deal,” he explains. “I’m trying to do everything. It’s been part of the plan. The kids’ book was in there, Broadway’s in there. I want to go to Broadway and do a show.” However, there’s one thing in his master plan that will surprise even his most avid fan. “I added bowling,” he reveals of his list. “I’m into bowling now. I feel like I’m at a place where I want to do things I love, and I love bowling.” For the artist and songwriter who has written his own children’s book called My Voice Is a Trumpet, served as Executive Music Producer for Netflix’s series "Titletown High," and even competed on ABC’s "Dancing with the Stars," Allen has always pursued his own unique path in life, which has proven to be the key to his success. “I feel like you have to think outside the box because every artist, we have the same goals. But everybody’s path to get there is completely different and you have to be open to trying new things. You have to be open to just not relying on the ‘standard’ way of doing things,” says Allen. Set to release on June 24, Allen’s new album Tulip Drive is full of sentimental meaning. Personal stories and experiences are intricately woven throughout

the album’s title and songs, especially the album’s first single “Down Home,” which is a touching, heartfelt letter to Allen’s late father. “My first album is called Mercury Lane, the street I grew up on. The second album Bettie James Gold Edition is named after my dad and my grandma,” explains the Delaware native. “This album’s called Tulip Drive, named after the street my grandma lived on in Delaware. It’s the first album where I’m writing a lot of personal songs. I actually wanted to do this album [where] everything is based off of a moment in my life…The music’s changing, but it’s still me. You have some country stuff, some country-country stuff, some pop-country stuff, some rock leaning stuff, some pop leaning stuff, some R&B leaning stuff, but the stories are still there. It’s still me. The same kind of music I made on Mercury Lane is the same stuff I’m making now – just a lot more mature; situations are different, the instrumentation might change a little bit in and out to keep it fresh. I’d say it’s just more me.” With all of the projects Allen has excelled in, the “Down Home” singer and father of three knows that at the end of the day, it’s doing what he loves and being with who he

loves that’s the most important. “It’s been really cool getting a chance to do a lot of different things, and getting recognition for it is cool, but the best part is getting to do what I love and provide for my family,” says Allen. “I want my legacy to be someone who cared about other people. Someone who made music he could be proud of, that his kids and wife would be proud of, and just someone [who] always looked for ways to be better.” When asked if he could go back to the beginning of his career and tell himself one thing knowing everything he knows now, Allen’s answer is quite simple. “Keep going. You’re doing everything right,” he states. “I don’t have any regrets. I don’t wish a record deal would’ve come sooner because I wouldn’t have been ready. There’s so much I learned when I was trying to learn the business before I got a deal. I learned about publishing, how to read different kinds of contracts, booking agencies, business management, PROs, trying to understand things like merchandise, marketing, and really understanding the business. I wouldn’t change anything. I would just tell him: ‘Keep going.’” JimmieAllenMusic.com

As a stay-at-home mom, Jessica Mobley started doing hair inside her home in Nashville. As her clientele grew (and even included some well-known names), she knew she needed her own salon. “It grew into something bigger than I was expecting, so on May 1st, 2018, I opened 931 Beauty Co., a hair salon in Columbia,” she says. “We started with four stations, then went to six, then eight and now we're at 10.” Plans are also in the works to expand even more to cover the entire 4000 square feet of the floor, while still keeping that warm, calming atmosphere. “The number one thing we hear from clients is that the vibe in here is so welcoming and fun,” says Manager, Vanessa Martini. “It's kind of like an escape.” They want people to feel comfortable as soon as they enter. Beauty, believes Jessica, is in everyone. “When you walk into a salon, you shouldn't feel like you need to be completely changed, but instead you just need to emphasize your confidence. If we can bring that out in a woman and have her eyes light up, there's nothing like it in the world.” Treating hair loss is a particular passion project for her. “I’ve had people cry in my chair,” she says. “They may be women who have gone through chemo or have been through a lot of stress, or they are men suffering from premature balding.” Jessica continues, “This pandemic has caused an immense amount of pharmaceutical and stress-related hair loss in men and women, so we really focus on non-surgical hair restoration. We have non-surgical mesh integration and products and vitamins to treat hair loss.” Of course, 931 Beauty Co. also offers all the basics such as haircuts, styling, hair color, and color fixing. Stylists can add extensions and beauty experts can apply makeup. The salon also trains others who want to become stylists. Moving Music Down the Highway Jon Long isn’t what you would call a ramblin’ man, and he’s not exactly running down the road trying to loosen his load. As a matter of fact, he keeps it pretty tight as the tour bus driver for Dierks Bentley and other big-name artists because he’s the one responsible for keeping the music moving from town to town. A Spring Hill resident of twenty years, Jon drove trucks for two decades before a neighbor and friend, Glenn Dustin of southern gospel group Legacy Five, having driven tour buses himself, talked him into shifting gears. It’s not an easy gig to break into. To earn his credentials, Jon had to drive for a short time as a Williamson County school bus driver. Soon, he would start getting seat time with acts like Devin Dawson and Colt Ford. Friends on the road like Mark Banks, driver for Lee Greenwood, showed him the ropes on how to operate tour buses. Once he got his feet wet and was driving crew buses for acts like Little Big Town, he got his next big break. Andrew Morton, lead driver for Dierks Bentley, hired him on as the driver for the band, and he’s been driving Dierks’ bus for six years now. When he’s not on tour with Dierks, he gets to drive for other artists such as Lady A, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert, Clint Black, Chris Stapleton, Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, and, of course, a gritty little band known as the Hot Country Knights. Jon catches most shows still in rehearsals when he’s not

sleeping, but it beats waiting for tickets to go on sale any day. “I get to meet all kinds of cool people. I haven’t met anybody yet artist-wise, band or crew that hasn’t been nice. They’re all pretty laid back and easy going,” said Jon. While there’s plenty fun to be had, driving a tour bus is serious business, and Jon is responsible for the bus and all its passengers while they’re on the road. “You drive differently than a tractor trailer because there are people on board, and your center of gravity is higher, so you have to drive slow on your ramps and slow on your curves,” Jon explained. A big tour like Dierks Bentley’s can travel with something close to eight buses and nine trailers. Tours leave out of a town and drive all night to get to the next one. When they get to the venue the next morning, the drivers park the buses and get them all cleaned up and ready to go back out that night. Jon goes to sleep about 3:00 pm, then he wakes up at midnight, picks everyone up back at the venue, and they head back out into the night to do it all again the next day. Jon says you can’t beat it. In a sense, he gets paid to travel, and that’s his favorite part. He’s traveled with artists from north to south, east to west. On days off while on tour, he takes the opportunities to go out and tour some cities for himself. “I’ve been all over the U.S., all over Canada, and it never gets old,” said Jon.
