Spring Hill Approved 1,252 Residential and Commercial Building Permits Last Year
Pre-planning helps alleviate any questions, problems or differences among family members.
We are honored to help.
As the single-fastest growing Tennessee city, with at least 15,000 residents, this past decade, Spring Hill has seen building permits for both residential and commercial projects approved by the thousands. According to the Spring Hill Homepage, 2021 saw Spring Hill collect $10.1 million in residential development fees, almost $1 million more than 2020's $9.3 million, attributable to 2021 seeing almost three times as many water and sewer permits issued.

Even if you’ve been living under a rock for the last six months, you’ve no doubt heard Walker Hayes’ ‘Fancy Like’ on the radio, or on a TV commercial or watched him dance with his daughter Lela on TikTok. Hayes has been working in and around country music for at least the last 12 years, and just now has become a household name because of one song. “I was just having some fun and all of a sudden, this is happening.

I didn’t have an agenda. I didn’t calculate. I didn’t do a dance with my daughter to blow up on TikTok. I mean I had just figured out Instagram!” Hayes continues, “This song, ‘Fancy Like’ crept in. My career was tiny, but it was enough. Everything has completely fallen from the sky. Released in June 2021 - only 5 months old and I just got a double platinum status. Nobody could have predicted this. It is so funny
to try to describe what has happened. Laney and I just look at each other like ‘What is going on?’ Having the biggest song in the world? I don’t think we ever even considered it.” After working at Costco during one point in his career to make ends meet, Hayes can’t contain his disbelief. “What is going on right now is the pinnacle of the dream. I’ve seen people way more talented than me go home. I’ve seen how many tiny things can make you miss an opportunity. We are in utter disbelief every day.” Hayes’ wife of almost 18 years, Laney, reveals, “We are still definitely acclimating to it. There’s a learning curve to jumping back in to life like this. It’s trying to figure out the balance. We’re so grateful and it’s a good problem to try to figure out. How do we get family time? How do we get time off for Walker?” She continues, “The thing that has been a hard adjustment for me is that I have always been so present and constant with the kids, and trying
to help Walker take things off his plate keeps me busier and the kids are having to do some things on their own. But they’re really understanding.” Hayes responds, “If there’s a perfect mom, it’s right here. She home schools them, plays with them, gets down on the ground with them, kisses them goodnight. She does it all.” Their 15-year-old daughter, Lela has become somewhat of a breakout star herself, choreographing TikTok dances with her Dad. Laney maintains, “We protect Lela a little bit from social media because we know how easily you can get wrapped up in it. It’s ironic that she blew up on TikTok with her Dad. I don’t want her buying in to the good or the bad of it. It’s hard enough to be 15.” CONTINUED >

“We’re trying hard not to try so hard and do the right thing with all of this. We’re so grateful for our adventurous life.” As the family prepares to head out on the road, Hayes says, “We’ll have two buses and tour as a family. It will be life-changing for us because we definitely function better as a family.” But their family has not been without struggle. The ups and downs of Walker’s career, his struggle with alcoholism and the loss of their infant daughter Oakleigh, just a few hours after her birth in 2018. “Losing Oakleigh was the birth of our faith. The way we both looked at life the day after that. We were so sad and so mad. Everything we thought we knew was wrong. We just didn’t know what we didn’t have control over. We had never been brought to our knees like that,” says Walker. Much of that struggle will be chronicled in Hayes’ next project, a book he’s co-authoring with his friend and neighbor Craig

Cooper titled, I’m Glad You’re Here. Hayes says, “We bought this house {in Thompson’s Station} because Craig lives next door. His first words to me were ‘I’m glad you’re here’” Craig gave the Hayes’ family a van when they were struggling. His kindness meant that the family would have a vehicle big enough for all of the six Hayes kids to have a seatbelt. “He supported me so I want to support him.” Walker also started the Be A Craig Fund and wants to encourage individuals to seek out opportunities to help others. Walker tells Franklin Lifestyle, “We’re trying hard not to try so hard and do the right thing with all of this. We’re so grateful for our adventurous life. From sunrise to sundown, we are never bored! Gratitude is the biggest word in our life right now.” WalkerHayes.com

AMISH-MADE FURNITURE HAS FOUND A HOME IN NASHVILLE
With more and more furniture being imported from overseas, the quality is not always the best. And there often isn't the ability to customize this furniture. Gary O’Reilly, the owner of O’Reilly’s Amish Furniture in Nashville, wanted something better for his customers. “I’ve been in the furniture business since 1972,” he says. “In 2010 or 2011, I was at a furniture show in Chicago and there were two Amish people who had some things on display,” he says. “They got my attention.” He bought one of the bedroom sets to showcase at his store, which at the time was in Illinois, and within the first week he sold two of them. He then bought more, and they again sold within the first week. He kept buying and they kept selling. At this point, he decided to get rid of all the manufactured and imported furniture he had in stock and replace it with this beautifully handmade Amish furniture. CONTINUED >

In 2018, Gary sold his business in Illinois when he and his wife, Tomi, moved to Nashville to be near family. He knew he didn’t want to retire. He loved the work and loved the furniture business, and so two years ago he opened O’Reilly’s Amish Furniture. What makes Amish furniture so special? “Number one, it’s solid wood,” he says. “There is no particle board. Number two, it’s made in America. And number three, the finishes are wonderful.” It’s also extremely customizable. “You can take a 66-inch dresser and make it 64 ½ or 69; you can make it 36 inches high or 46 inches high.” In addition, customers can choose from over 407 types of hardware, 100 finishes, as well as choose their wood including oak, maple, cherry, 1/4 sawn white oak, hickory, elm, or walnut. “I’ll sometimes spend an hour and a half with a husband and wife to pick out a table,” says Gary. “There’s the shape, the size, the base, with leaves or without, and edging.” There are nine different edges available just for a table. “On our floor right now, we have approximately 35 tables and chairs, so I walk the customers around and they show me what they like,” he says. “We have a big wall that has 75 10 x 10 inch boards in six different woods, and there are 16 colors of each wood.” They’re attached with Velcro, so people can take them off and lay them on a table. If something in the store is not exactly what a customer wants, customized pieces can be made. He first asks the person to find a style they like on the floor, and then he designs and sketches from there. Once the sketch is approved, he sends it out to be built. “When someone comes in to ask if they can get a particular thing, I always interrupt them and say ‘yes,’” says Gary. “We can basically do whatever you want.”

O’Reilly’s Amish Furniture also carries three high quality American-made upholstery lines, as well as American-made lamps and more. “One of the other big draws is the handmade dual-pillow top flippable Amish mattresses,” he says. “Even the box springs are real box springs." “What I sell reflects me. I’m pickier than my customers in most cases. I have high expectations and Amish furniture fulfills those expectations.” Today, he buys direct from 40 to 50 Amish builders, and it’s all real bench-built handmade furniture. People drive from 100 miles away to shop at the store. “We deliver and set up everything within a hundred-mile radius,” says Gary. “We’ve also made four deliveries to Florida this past year.”
Customers are always thanking him for opening a store like this. “People love the quality. We’re getting toward the end of our second year here and I think I’m doing about 50% more business than I had hoped for. It’s blown away my expectations and the people have just been wonderful. They are so friendly and nice.” At different points, his wife, children and other family and friends have worked alongside Gary in the business. Today, his daughter Stefanie handles the website and social media. Stop in and discover how O’Reilly’s Amish Furniture can change the look and feel of your home. OReillysAmish.com

Farmhouse style is an interior design style that prioritizes practicality, simplicity, and rustic charm. Much of the same can be said of the couple, Brad and Holly Lauritzen, behind Our Faux Farmhouse. With a cult-like following of over 1.2 million on Instagram, people have discovered that these two (as well as their projects) are practical and charming all rolled into one couple. It started in 2016 as a place on Instagram where Holly shared Brad’s DIY projects. But she was sharing the photos after the projects were completed. Their Instagram exploded once Holly started sharing their projects in real time instead of looking back. Holly, a former elementary school teacher says, “We weren’t professionals. along with us. We are normal homeowners just wanting to make our house look better. One room, one wall at a time.” Brad adds, “I think it was super relatable because every home we got into was a builder spec home. And we were trying to show ways to improve and add character.” The couple has made the journey from Provo, UT to Austin, TX and have now settled in the Franklin area, also bringing their Urban Sips, a soft drink shop, concept with them. “We started Urban Sips & Sweets and Our Faux Farmhouse within months of each other. Once we decided to move here - we fell in love on a whirlwind weekend trip - and in three days, we bought a house and leased a spot in The Factory for Urban Sips. Once we decided, it all fell in to place seamlessly,” says Holly. Brad adds, “For us, family is first. If it’s not a good fit for our family and it isn’t going to make us thrive, we aren’t going to do it.” That family first attitude has definitely contributed to how their Instagram has evolved into more lifestyle content. People want to know about their family, and things like healthy products for the family and certainly, how they manage five kids (ages

15, 13, 11, 8 and 6). Holly says,“We’ve shared our struggles and realistic things about our marriage.” The entrepreneurial couple has recently bought into Flutterhabit, an eyelash company. “We always promote doing things ourselves. We’re big on self-reliance and learning to do things for yourself. I love the product so much so I felt comfortable putting our name on it,” says Holly. But don’t fret. Holly and Brad are moving into a new home in our area that they say will need lots of character. What’s next for the Lauritzens? “We would love to expand Urban Sips. Soda is something we are passionate about. We have no idea where Our Faux Farmhouse will take us,” says Holly. “We never really had a plan for it,” added Brad. Holly continues, “The whole goal of this is teaching people and empowering them to know they can do the same things that Brad is doing. He’s not trained - he’s just taught himself. And the difference between him doing it and them doing it? He’s just trying. He’s picking up the tool and trying. That’s it. We want to give people the confidence to get started on making their own home exactly how they want it.” OurFauxFarmhouse.com

Willow Branch Raffles Off A New Home i n T h o m p s o n' s Station ARTICLE BY ED ATLAS A Williamson County homebuilder recently raffled off a new home in one of Middle Tennessee’s more desirable neighborhoods and it’s right here in Thompson’s Station. Willow Branch Homes built and raffled the home as a benefit for Monroe Carrel Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and the I Am Second foundation. The property is situated in the heart of the Canterbury neighborhood. Tickets for a chance to win the $700,000 home were sold for $100 each between August 31 and November 27 last year. The winner was selected via a random electronic drawing. “We’re proud to be a part of this community and to be a local homebuilder,” says Willow Branch COO, Paul Winegar. “The reason we’re as successful as we are is because of the people in the community. We give back where we can.”
32
O PE N H OU SE | HOM E SERVI CE S
Ticket sales proceeds of $639,000 were distributed equally to Children’s Hospital and I Am Second. “We wanted to partner with them because they struck us as doing so much in the community,” says Winegar. “We approached both organizations with the idea and they jumped right on it.” It was Willow Branch’s first raffle. Winegar termed it a “work in progress but we made it successful.” Plans are in the works to raffle another home in 2022. “We’re working on an agreement for the next one and hopefully, we can come to a long term agreement over the next few months for as far as we can see,” says Winegar. The raffled home is Willow Branch’s Fenwick model, which is available with four to five bedrooms, 3.5 baths and 3,072 square feet. The interior is designed by Willow Branch along with I
Am Second’s celebrity ambassadors, Kathie Lee Gifford and Moriah Peters. “The winner was shocked and surprised,” says Winegar. “They thought they would donate to a good cause and did not expect or think it would happen to them.” Canterbury presented an opportunity for Willow Branch to extend its reach beyond Brentwood and Franklin. “We built in Canterbury because it’s one of the most successful and largest communities in the state,” says Winegar. “Our homes feature very unique craftsmanship and they’re different than what other builders are doing. The front elevation has more of an urban feel with garages off a side street or behind the house.” According to Winegar there are approximately 750 homes in Canterbury with 1,100 projected by end of 2024. Geri G has completely changed my life—in every sense of the phrase. I wish I could even begin to tell you the amount of time that she has invested in helping me to improve my health on every level imaginable. As such a genuine person, she has strong and steadfast ideals which translate into both the care that she gives to her clients as well as the products that she creates.
“
Geri is AMAZING! I have been seeing her for almost 4 years and she has done wonders for my skin. She will tell you exactly what you need to do from the inside out to make your skin look and feel fabulous! I have had facials throughout my life whole adult like and used a countless number of products, and nothing comes close to how my skin looks and feels after seeing Geri and using her products. If this rating had 10 stars, I would give her all of them!!!
– Shanna Khan
Geri is truly a miracle worker. I developed a severe hormonal acne breakout that had lasted two weeks, had seen a dermatologist for it, and nothing was helping. After a facial with Geri and with her recommendations, my face is completely clear. Geri made me a truly personalized facial plan and helped me learn what I needed to change in or order to clear my skin and she completely changed my skin and my outlook! I am so grateful for Geri’s facials and my skin has truly never looked better.

What started out as a cozy place for family to stay when visiting Stefanie Gorman and her husband Steve, turned into an Airbnb adventure she never would have dreamed of. And the ultimate opening of two general stores she could never have imagined. “My husband is from Michigan and I’m from the South,” says Stefanie. “We decided to build two cottages in 2013 in Leiper’s Fork so everyone would have their own space when they visited.” Stefanie, a fifth grade teacher at Hunters Bend Elementary at the time, explains that a friend suggested she should consider putting the cottages on Airbnb so other people could enjoy them. Stefanie notes, “I put a couple of pictures of the cottages on social media and went to bed that night thinking no one would rent them. When I got up the next morning, they were rented for Saturday. The cottages have enriched our lives beyond our wildest dreams.” She adds, “I want to bring others joy and our cottages have bought joy to so many people. We get compliments and some guests would ask where they could buy a certain item like a map we have, a pillow, or a cute stuffed animal we had in the cottage. Steve and I love meeting our guests and have been blessed with many guests returning, and we also get referrals. One guest told us, ‘This was the best experience we’ve had with Airbnb. You totally ruined us with all of the extras. Everything is so cozy and perfect.’” “The cottages have been a blessing and allowed us to open both general store locations. Our Franklin store opened in August 2019; the Columbia store in November 2021. The stores are two very highly-curated Southern gift shops with a lot of happy gifts folks can give for birthdays, hostesses, down-in-the-dumps, and any occasion to make people feel good.” The name ‘Fork of the South’ was inspired by Stefanie and Steve’s love of Leiper’s Fork and her true love of the South. When asked how she decided on inventory for her stores, Stefanie notes, “I just picked out things I love and went with my gut. I love finding things that bring people joy.” The Southern-inspired general stores are stocked with unique gifts for babies, kids, pets, kitchen and hosting, spa and self-care, and bar and glassware items. “Fork of the South is where shabby and chic meet Southern, with cottages designed for a relaxing getaway and two general stores curated purposefully with items that make the perfect gifts for the ones you love or just a little self-care.” -- Stefanie Gorman
Stefanie left her teaching position in 2019 to focus solely on her Fork of the South cottages and general stores. “My first year out of the classroom was really hard because that was my family,” she notes. “But now with the cottages and stores, we have lots of amazing guests and customers who I see every day and it’s gotten to evolve as some of my former students have worked in the stores!”

Stefanie is a master at multi-tasking, dividing her time among the Franklin and Columbia stores and her Leiper’s Fork cottages. She notes, “My husband is my biggest asset. I couldn’t do any of this without his love and support.” Fork of the South Franklin is located at The Factory near Five Daughters. The Columbia store is at 101 North James Campbell Blvd., and Fork of the South cottages can be booked on Airbnb. ForkOfTheSouth.com

Mojo's Tacos: BRINGING GOOD FOOD AND GOOD TIMES TO THOMPSON'S STATION
ARTICLE BY LISA VALENTINE | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

OWNERS BILL BUTLER, DAVE STORY, WILL BUTLER, TRAVIS ANDERSON
What began as a food truck back in 2017, has become so much more for the owners of Mojo’s Tacos. Fast forward five years and their food truck has turned into not just one, but two brick and mortar locations, with the first in Franklin and now the newest Mojo’s Tacos location recently opening in Thompson’s Station Tollgate Village. Throughout the pandemic, Mojo’s Tacos owners Travis Anderson, Will Butler, Bill Butler, and Dave Story found that they had great success in the neighborhoods of Thompson’s Station. With two of the restaurant’s four owners living in Franklin near the flagship location and the other two calling Thompson’s Station home, it was only fitting to choose the area for the second store after seeing such high demand from customers there. When dreaming up the vision for Mojo’s Tacos, Chef and Owner Dave Story wanted the restaurant to be a place fit for all occasions that offered something for everyone.“When I started coming up with the concept of what I wanted it to be, I kind of wanted it to be a ‘vetofree’ restaurant,” recalls Story. “You know when you have your kids and there’s always one person who doesn’t want to eat somewhere where everyone else wants to eat? So that’s how I kind of came up with it. I was like ‘What if we did a taco concept that was great for
the kids, but could be date night for the parents, [and a place to] grab a beer with the guys?’ That’s kind of how I wanted to gear the menu, so that it kind of had a little bit of everything for everybody.” When it comes to the menu, the new location has a variety of fun and unique menu items that go beyond your average taco, such as the Green Chili Cheeseburger, which is a special menu item at the Franklin location but a mainstay on the Thompson’s Station menu. “It has the core of Franklin, but there are some different items on this one,” says Story of the menu. “We are scratch. We make our own corn tortillas and press our own flour tortillas, so we’re a little different than your standard taco place. We smoke our meats on site…we do everything the way we should do it,” he explains. Taking the homemade touch a step further, at Mojo’s Tacos kids even get free popsicles that are made in house! As for his favorite menu item, that’s a hard question for Chef Story to answer because he loves them all. This week for him, it’s the hot chicken tacos—which are a crowd favorite that keep diners coming back for more. Be sure to stop into the new Mojo’s Tacos location to enjoy some great food and say hi to Chef Story! MojosTacos.com MAR CH 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/TH OMP SO N S STAT I O N
