In Texoma, where strong women shape strong communit ies, The Owen Academy stands as a powerful example of wh at can happen when motherhood meets purpose.

Founded by Brina Dutton, TOA was born from a story many women understand at their core: the instinct to fight for your child, to search tirelessly for answers, and to create something better when the right support simply does n’t exist. What began as one mother’s journey to meet her chil d’s needs has grown into something far greater: a place where countless families now find hope, guidance, and real progress.
Like many mothers navigating autism and development al challenges, Brina experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to find the right resources.
Instead of settling, she stepped into a new role—advocate, community leader, and ultimately, provider. That decision didn’t just change her child’s life. It created a ripple effect that is now impacting families all across Texoma.
The Owen Academy offers individualized services inc luding speech and language development, social skills, ear ly intervention, and autism support. But what makes it truly special is the environment it creates—not just for children, but for their families.
Because behind every child is a mother who is carrying questions, hopes, and often, unseen weight. Here, those mothers are met with understanding. The y are given tools, encouragement, and a team that genuine ly walks alongside them.
R edefining
Strength doesn’t always look loud or visible. Somet imes it looks like showing up to appointments, advocating i n meetings, and celebrating small wins that mean everything.
The women connected to The Owen Academy: Admin, therapists, mothers, they all embody that quiet, re lentless strength every single day. And through that strengt h, lives are changing.
As we celebrate women this season, The Owen Academy is a reminder that some of the most impactful leadership begins at home.
It begins with a mother who refuses to give up. It grows into a mission that serves others. And it becomes a legacy that reaches far beyond wha t was ever imagined.
Because when women lead with purpose, entire communities are transformed.

If there is one thing the Texoma region knows how to do well, it is raise strong, stylish, and seriously driven women. This month, we are celebrating them with a little extra sparkle and a lot of admiration. Welcome to The Ladies Issue, where confidence is high, goals are getting crushed, and glass ceilings do not stand a chance.

We are kicking things off with Becky Hillyard and her journey from side hustle to style empire. It is the kind of story every woman loves because it proves you do not need permission to start something big. You just need the courage to try, the confidence to keep going, and maybe a little bit of stubborn determination along the way.
You will also meet five leading ladies in business across the Texoma region who are not just running companies, they are running the show. These women are building brands, creating opportunities, and proving that success can absolutely look powerful and feminine at the same time. They are ambitious, focused, and not afraid to take up a little space while they are at it.
And because every powerhouse needs a fun side, we are also celebrating the mahjong mania sweeping the community. The ladies have officially taken over the tables, and what started as a game has quickly turned into connection, laughter, and a whole lot of competitive spirit. It is stylish, it is social, and yes, it is just a little bit addictive.
As we head toward Mother’s Day, we are also shining a light on the women who somehow manage to do it all. Our feature with Twin Oaks Nursery is the perfect reminder that celebrating moms does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it is as simple as something beautiful, thoughtful, and filled with love.
This issue is confident, a little bold, and unapologetically feminine. It celebrates women who lead with heart, support one another, and never wait for permission to shine.
Here is to the ladies of Texoma. Strong, graceful, fearless, and absolutely unstoppable.
With admiration and just a touch of attitude,

The Classic Tile Game Is Bringing Communities Together

ARTICLE BY DANIELLE POCHE
“What was once considered a quiet pastime reserved for older generations has found new life across the region, transforming into one of the most unexpected social trends in communities from Frisco to Texoma.”
On any given weeknight, the familiar click of tiles echoes through coffee shops, country clubs, and living rooms alike. What was once considered a quiet pastime reserved for older generations has found new life across the region, transforming into one of the most unexpected social trends in communities from Frisco to Texoma.
Mahjong is having a moment, and in North Texas, that moment has turned into a movement.
The centuries-old Chinese tile game has deep cultural roots, historically played within Asian and Jewish communities as a way to gather, connect, and pass down tradition. Today, that same sense of connection is fueling a powerful resurgence, but with a broader, more diverse audience.
Across the U.S., interest in mahjong has surged in recent years, with a growing number of people seeking out lessons, social groups, and local events. What was once learned at home is now

being rediscovered in social settings, where newcomers are eager to pull up a chair and learn the game.
In Celina, Frisco, and throughout North DFW, mahjong has moved far beyond kitchen tables. Informal groups are forming in neighborhoods, with weekly games hosted in homes, clubhouses, and community spaces. Social media groups and word-of-mouth have helped fuel the growth, connecting players of all skill levels.
Local venues are also embracing the trend. Mahjong nights are popping up at wineries, including Valley Vines, and at restaurants, such as The Wick in Celina, and even boutiques, like Proper Gifts & Decor in Sherman. Whether it is a casual open play or a guided lesson for beginners, the format is approachable and social.
The appeal is simple: four players, a table, and a shared experience that encourages conversation as much as competition.
Perhaps the most surprising element of mahjong’s rise is who is playing.
Once associated with older generations, the game is now drawing in younger players, particularly women and young professionals looking for meaningful ways to connect offline. Mahjong nights have become a go-to for girls’ nights, neighborhood meet ups, and even networking events.
In fast-growing communities like Celina and Frisco, where many residents are new to the area, the game has become an easy way to build friendships. Open play groups welcome beginners, creating an inclusive and engaging environment.
Visit Facebook @Mahjong Prosper/ Frisco/Celina, where you will find local Mahjong Mentors, open play opportunities, special events, tournaments, and more!
It is not uncommon for players to arrive as strangers and leave as friends.
The resurgence of mahjong reflects something deeper than a passing trend. In a digital-first world, people are craving tactile, face-to-face interaction. Mahjong delivers exactly that.
The game requires focus, strategy, and a bit of luck, but its real draw lies in its rhythm. The shuffle of tiles, the anticipation of a winning hand, and the shared laughter around the table create an experience that feels both nostalgic and new.
In North Texas, where community connection is a defining part of the lifestyle, mahjong fits naturally into the social landscape. It offers a reason to gather, slow down, and be present.
What sets mahjong apart from other social fads is its staying power. It is not just entertainment. It is tradition, strategy, and connection wrapped into one.
Across the area, the game has transitioned from a niche activity into a growing cultural staple, attracting players of all ages and backgrounds. From beginners learning the rules for the first time to seasoned players hosting weekly games, mahjong is building something lasting.
And as more North Texans pull up a chair and pick up a tile, one thing is clear: this is more than a comeback.
It is a revival rooted in community, connection, and the simple joy of sitting down together.

“What sets mahjong apart from other social fads is its staying power. It is not just entertainment. It is tradition, strategy, and connection wrapped into one.”

FIVE INSPIRING WOMEN SHARE THE PASSION, PURPOSE, AND PIVOTAL MOMENTS THAT SHAPED THEIR JOURNEYS AND CONTINUE TO INFLUENCE BUSINESSES, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS TEXOMA.
Across Texoma, women are leading with vision, resilience, and heart. In this special feature, we highlight five remarkable leaders whose work is shaping businesses, supporting families, and strengthening our community. From advocacy and wellness to entrepreneurship and hospitality, each woman brings her own story, perspective, and purpose to the table. Kathleen Hagan, Jennifer Taylor, Alisha Rosenthal, Brina Dutton, and Michelle Castle share reflections on the experiences, motivations, and values that guide their work and the lasting impact they hope to leave on Texoma.
“If our work helps even one family feel less alone on their journey, that’s a legacy that truly matters.” - Brina Dutton

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO CONTINUE GROWING AND PUSHING FORWARD IN YOUR FIELD?
My husband and sons motivate me more than anything. My son Owen has profound autism and is nonverbal, which means the world doesn’t always understand him. Everything I do through programs, advocacy, and community work is rooted in creating a safer and more inclusive future for him and children like him.
My older son Carter inspires me just as much. Growing up as the sibling of a child with special needs takes incredible compassion, and watching the young man he is becoming reminds me why this work matters. When families tell me they finally feel hope or a child accomplishes something once thought impossible, it keeps me moving forward.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE AMBITION WITH PERSONAL LIFE AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT?
Over time, I’ve learned balance doesn’t mean everything gets equal time. It means the right things get your best energy. My family always comes first because they are the reason behind the mission. I’ve also learned to protect my peace and be intentional about where I give my time and energy.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR LEGACY, WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO LEAVE ON THIS COMMUNITY?
I hope families navigating autism feel supported instead of overwhelmed. If our work helps even one family feel less alone, that is a legacy that truly matters.

“That moment didn’t end my career. It redefined it.” - Michelle Castle

There have been many defining moments in my life. I became a mom at 17 while still a high school junior, and those early years taught me resilience quickly. But the most recent turning point came on March 15, 2020, when we were abruptly sent home from Cabo as the world began shutting down.
Two weeks of quarantine at our lake house in Bonham turned into a mirror. In that stillness, I faced what I’d been avoiding. I was burned out and questioning everything—my calendar, my priorities, and whether I was ready to walk away from a career I had built over 25 years.
That moment didn’t end my career. It redefined it. It began my “rethink” journey and ultimately led to my book, Rethink Everything You Know About Business Planning.
During COVID, I made a bold investment and hired a nationally ranked business coach. At the time there were no guarantees, but I trusted my intuition and went all in.
That decision changed everything. It didn’t just transform my business—it reshaped how I lead, how I think, and what I believe is possible.
Legacy, to me, is about ripple effects across generations. I hope to be remembered as someone who helped people rediscover their confidence, reconnect with their purpose, and build a future that lasts far beyond themselves.

“We may be the only moment of rest someone experiences all day.”
- Alisha Rosenthal

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO CONTINUE GROWING AND PUSHING FORWARD IN YOUR FIELD?
What motivates me most is the opportunity to help people truly feel better. At Spa 31, we often remind ourselves that we may be the only moment of rest someone experiences all day, sometimes even all month. When someone walks through our doors feeling overwhelmed or physically uncomfortable, our goal is to create a space where they can exhale, reset, and feel genuinely cared for.
I’m also deeply motivated by education. Through 31 Institute, our massage therapy school, I have the privilege of helping train the next generation of therapists. Watching students grow in confidence and begin careers that help others is incredibly rewarding.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG WOMEN WHO WANT TO FOLLOW A SIMILAR PATH?
Start before you feel completely ready. Confidence often comes after you begin. Any time I doubt a step, I ask myself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Most of the time, it simply means starting over.
Work hard, but don’t sacrifice your well-being. You can pursue big goals while still honoring your health, family, and values.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR LEGACY, WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO LEAVE ON THIS COMMUNITY?
More than accomplishments, I hope people remember how I treated others. I hope my children and community see that authenticity, courage, and serving others are the most meaningful ways to live.

“Small ideas can grow into something meaningful” - Kathleen Hagan
WHAT IS ONE DEFINING MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER THAT SHAPED WHO YOU ARE TODAY?
A defining moment in my career began with a simple goal. I wanted to take my boys skiing. I was about 40, working a job that didn’t pay much while my husband, a Dallas firefighter, worked a second job. With three boys at home, I felt a quiet pull toward something more.
I had always been known for a white pasta dish I made. Friends often asked for the recipe, though I had never considered myself a “recipe” person. One day I measured the ingredients and thought, if this turns out beautifully, this will be the recipe. It did, and Olive Oil de Fino was born.
In the beginning, I collected bottles from restaurants, removed the labels, and sterilized them to reuse. Later we took a leap of faith and ordered our first cases of bottles. In 2002, I received my license and began infusing each bottle by hand with garlic and herbs.
WHAT IS ONE INVESTMENT YOU HAVE MADE IN YOURSELF THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING?
One of the greatest investments I made was believing it was not too late to begin again. Building Olive Oil de Fino required learning how to create a product, build a brand, and step into something unknown. I chose growth over comfort, and that decision changed everything.
When I think about legacy, I think about connection. I hope Olive Oil de Fino has been part of moments where people gather around a table, share a meal, and create memories. If it reminds people that small ideas can grow and community matters, that means everything to me.

OLIVE OIL DE FINO

“It’s not just a beautiful table or delicious food. It’s the feeling people leave with.” - Jennifer Taylor

HOW DO YOU BALANCE AMBITION WITH PERSONAL LIFE AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT?
Several years ago, I made a conscious decision to block time on my calendar every January for the entire year. I schedule vacation, time to be alone, time to “work from home” on other projects, time for family, and time for the nonprofit boards I serve on. Then I allow the rest of my work and responsibilities to build around that calendar. It’s about controlling your time and your calendar, rather than letting it control you.
IS ONE INVESTMENT YOU HAVE MADE IN YOURSELF THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING?
Over the years, I’ve invested in myself through Mastermind groups, courses on writing and managing social media, and retreats. Each year I try to invest in at least one way to grow and learn. This year I enrolled in a year-long financial course with an accountability partner. It has stretched me and helped me gain confidence in an area where I once felt unsure. Understanding your financial picture and truly owning it is incredibly empowering.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR LEGACY, WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO LEAVE ON THIS COMMUNITY?
More than anything, I want people to remember how I made them feel. Through meals, gatherings, and experiences, I hope the moments we create become memories that last long after the table is cleared. If people leave feeling cared for and connected, that means everything to me.

One of Texoma’s hidden gems, Vinita, the historic home of T.V. Munson, is tucked into a quiet, unassuming neighborhood in Denison, Texas. This beautifully restored historic home is where one of the world’s most well-known viticulturists, Thomas Volney Munson, lived and worked to create the grapevines that ultimately saved the French wine industry. Today, the home celebrates the life and legacy of one of Texoma’s most important residents. In fact, it is likely that the French wine enjoyed around the world today exists only because of T. V. Munson and his expertise in viticulture.
Designated a Texas Historic Landmark in 1967, Vinita , built in 1887, was once the center of a sprawling 350-acre working vineyard and farm. Munson and his family lived in the home until his death in January 1913.
Robin Bogue, Viticulture and Enology Director and Professor at Grayson College, works to continue his legacy by preserving his
vines and rootstocks and passing on the knowledge he perfected to future viticulturists, ecologists, and distillers. The Grayson College Enology, Viticulture, and Distilling programs are among the few educational programs in the country that offer degrees in grape growing and winemaking. In addition to directing the program, Bogue also offers guided tours of Vinita
“I think it is so important to preserve and pass on the legacy of T. V. Munson and his life’s work and I can do this by teaching people about what he did. Vinita is perfect for showing people a snapshot of the life of one of the most important residents Denison and Texoma has ever had. Worldwide, T. V. Munson and his work is so well known. I hope to help pass on the importance of what he did for our community, our country and even the world. I want people to know and understand how important and historic his work was. His story definitely needs to be told and celebrated.”

“WE WANT TO CREATE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMMUNITY AND HELP OUR VISITORS TO REALIZE THE IMPORTANT WORK THAT TOOK PLACE HERE IN DENISON, TEXAS...”
Paula Jonse, Director of Development for the Grayson College Foundation, which was given the responsibility of caring for and offering tours of the T. V. Munson Vinita house, enjoys spending time at the home and sharing Munson’s legacy with visitors. Inside the house, guests can see original and period-correct furnishings and artifacts. Beautiful hardwood floors, vintage wallpaper,
original glasswork, and historic photos can all be seen throughout the charming two-story home. The house even includes a cellar that was once used to store wine barrels.
Jonse is quick to point out the importance of Munson’s work. “Wine as we know it today would likely not be possible without the incredible work of Mr. Volney. I love to give the tours of the house because it gives visitors a glimpse of what it was like to live during that time period. T. V. Munson was a genius. He was a renaissance man. Not only was he an expert in viticulture but also an inventor, artist, naturalist and a scientist as well.” In fact, visitors can even see drawings of a flying machine that foreshadowed the modern helicopter displayed in the home.
Jonse also understands how important it is to continue sharing Munson’s story. “We want to create a great relationship with the community and help our visitors to realize the important work that took place here in Denison, Texas. Work that honestly changed the world. I hope to help bring Texoma and our community together to celebrate all that took place here at the Vinita house.”
Vinita, the home of T.V. Munson, is located at 530 W. Hanna Street in Denison, Texas. Tours can be scheduled by contacting the Grayson College Foundation Office at (903) 463-8766 or by email at jonsep@grayson.edu.

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”
She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?
A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?
A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.
Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.
Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?
A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.
This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.
“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”
