Second Anniversary Celebrating our

Warm Holiday Greetings

As the year draws to a close and the lights begin to twinkle across our neighborhoods, December reminds us of what truly matters—connection, kindness, and community. It’s a season that invites us to pause, reflect, and give—not just gifts wrapped in ribbons, but our time, our presence, and our compassion.

Texoma City Lifestyle celebrates its second anniversary! The last two years have been a privelege and honor to highlight all that is special and meaningful in Texoma. Thank you for reading each month. We'd like to extend heartfelt gratitude to our partners for sharing their stories and businesses with all of us.

In this issue, we celebrate the many ways people come together to make the season bright. You’ll find heartwarming stories of neighbors turning small acts of kindness into big change, creative ideas for meaningful holiday gatherings, and inspiration for giving back in ways that extend far beyond December.

Whether it’s volunteering at a local food bank, supporting small businesses with holiday gift shopping, or simply sharing a meal with those you love, we hope these pages encourage you to rediscover the joy of togetherness. Because community isn’t just where we live—it’s what we build, one generous act at a time.

As we step into a new year, let’s carry that spirit forward. Here’s to a season filled with gratitude, grace, and giving.

With warmth and joy,

December 2025

The Owen Academy

At The Owen Academy, we celebrate the unique qualities that make each child special—especially during this season of joy and togetherness. We take the time to truly understand your child—not just their diagnosis. By learning their likes, dislikes, strengths, and interests, we create a therapy environment that feels safe, engaging, and full of care.

After assessment and enrollment, we thoughtfully pair your child with a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) who aligns with their personality and learning style. This helps make therapy not only effective but also enjoyable—encouraging meaningful growth. This Christmas season, and all year long, we’re honored to walk alongside your family—nurturing your child’s individuality with heart, hope, and joy.

ELVES CHRISTMAS TREE FARM

Experience The Holiday Season And Cut Down Your Own Tree In Denison, Texas

Do you love the Christmas holidays and want to establish a fun tradition for your family? Texoma residents and visitors are fortunate to have a unique opportunity in Denison at Elves Christmas Tree Farm. Cutting down your own Christmas tree to take home and decorate creates special memories for your family. Taking a tractor ride down to the tree farm, picking out your favorite tree, and cutting it down will be something that your family will enjoy and remember.

Marshall and Sharlote Cathey know how special the Christmas season is for Texoma residents.

Sharlote grew up next door to the tree farm and took part in watching people come every season to cut down their own Christmas trees. When the opportunity to purchase the property and continue the tradition of having fresh-cut Christmas trees available for those who want a memorable experience came up, she and Marshall knew they needed to make the move to purchase the tree farm. Together with Marshall, who grew up in Sherman, and her three sons, the Catheys continued the Texoma tradition of having trees available for the holiday season. Marshall said the opportunity to open the tree farm was an exciting one for his family, “It was a great opportunity for our family to work and play together. We feel like the spirit of Christmas is important to us, and this allows us to share what our family enjoys with the public.”

Christmas Trees are available the Friday after Thanksgiving and are sold until all the available trees are cut down. According to Marshall,

customers should consider visiting the farm as early as possible. “We have Virginia Pines and Leyland Cyprus trees for you to cut down on our farm for as long as the supply lasts. But we also have a great selection of traditional trees, including Frasier firs, Oregon Noble firs, Grand firs, and Nordmann firs. We also flock our trees on site. We can flock any tree purchased from our farm, but remember it takes a few days to dry. Once you pick out a tree, you can schedule to pick it up."

Marshall continues, "It is more than just the trees. We have a great Christmas gift shop with unique and fun ornaments, wreaths, nativity sets, hot apple cider, stockings, and yard art. We are a very family-friendly business. We are happy to assist our customers and can help load it up for you as well.”

The Elves Christmas Tree Farm has been a family tradition since 1989 in North Texas.

AN ANNUAL DENISON HOLIDAY TRADITION

ARTICLE BY MIKE ZAPATA

Christmas is a time for joy and laughter for most families, but some families struggle to make ends meet and have money to spend on Christmas gifts for children. In the 1990’s, Fred Pilkilton and the Denison Rotary Club decided to act on that need and established a program to have local first responders help children receive Christmas gifts. A long-time Denison Rotary Club member, Fred Pilkilton, had an idea and shared it with the club, and a Texoma Christmas tradition was born.

The Rotary Club raise funds and partner with the Denison Walmart and uniformed police and firefighters to bring smiles to children in need during the holidays. The Denison Independent School District helps with selecting the children who need toys, clothes, and other items. The uniformed Denison police officers and firefighters volunteer to take the children on a shopping spree on a Saturday at Walmart before Christmas. They help the children pick out gifts they otherwise would not receive.  Sadly, Fred Pilkilton passed away earlier this year from cancer, but his wife, Rossi, also a Denison Rotary

Club member, continues the tradition of making sure the children can enjoy a nice Christmas.

Rossi Pilkilton fondly remembers how important this program was to her husband. “For Fred, it was all about the kids, not about him. God was always first in his life. He always said a prayer to praise and thank God right before he started calling the kids names to start shopping. Fred was a humble man. His passion was to help children. It is awesome to have the support of the Denison Rotary Club, the Denison Police Department, the Denison Fire Department, and the Denison Independent School District. We started slowly. I think we started with around thirty kids originally, and it continues to grow. I am always amazed at the support our Denison Walmart provides. They are such a great partner. Each year, we manage to pull together groups to make a great event for the children. It is pretty big, but we have a lot of help. We have Santa, our Denison Rotary Club members, Walmart volunteers, police officers, and firefighters, and we have refreshments for the kids. I love hearing the stories from the event. One of the things that really touches me is to hear that often, many children want to use their money to purchase gifts for other family members. The beauty is that they don’t often choose for themselves. They put their family first.”   In a 2024 interview with KTEN News, Mr. Pilkilton expressed his thoughts.  “There is a lot of need this time of year.  A lot of times, there are kids who won’t have a Christmas. So, we try to identify those kids and take the opportunity to invite them to come with us and go shopping.”

According to Rotary Club member DeeAnn Abner, most of the funds are raised during Denison's Annual Fall Festival, but anyone can contribute to the event by contacting the Denison Rotary Club on their Facebook page or DenisonRotary.com. Your support will continue to make this Christmas tradition a great success in the years to come.
