peek at any garden on a day like today reveals the amazing dichotomy that occurs with seasonal regularity around SW Lake County: tender green shoots poking through snow. When this happens we, of course, worry whether spring will ever arrive. Some may even shake a fist and curse climate change. The fact is spring will come. Green shoots survive. Resilience, resolution and adaptability matters. All three of these traits help to define the Women of Distinction profiled in this issue. Toss in smarts, toughness, charity and service and you’ll see why we are so pleased to bring their stories to you. I’d also add good humor and a sense of adventure because the photo shoot directed by our editor, Stephen Neilson, at the marvelous Barrington White House was a lot of fun. If you have yet to attend an event at The White House please do so soon. It is a super stylish, gracious venue that we are lucky to have in our midst. Girl Scout Gives Back to Oncology Patients and their Families

Piper Novak of Girl Scout Troop 609 recently delivered 425 boxes of Girl Scout cookies on March 26th to Lurie's Children's Hospital when she went for an oncology appointment. A cancer survivor since age 2, it's Piper's third year doing a cookie drive for oncology families, and this year was supported by her entire troop (4th graders from Lines School in Barrington).

LAKE COUNTY ANNOUNCES $100 MILLION IN PROJECTS FOR 2018 CONSTRUCTION The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is gearing up for a busy road construction season. In 2018, Lake County will have nearly $100 million in road projects under construction, including 30 new projects such as the Quentin Road widening project near Lake Zurich and the intersection improvement and reconstruction of Old McHenry Road in Long Grove. There will also be several resurfacing projects, culvert replacements, signal modernizations, and enhancements to the non-motorized network. Once the home was finished, I brought the story to life and the home to a wider audience through my lens. As an interior photographer, my aim is to capture spaces as our natural eye takes them in. Shooting only with natural light allows me to survey how the light moves through the space. As an artist, my work is most inspired by light, whether waking up early to capture a space right before the sun peeks through the windows or capturing the light in my own home as it dances through the rooms in the early hours of the day. As a teenager, I wrote an essay about Barbara Walters, the most prominent woman on television at the time. I got to tell her about it personally when I worked at WABC-TV in New York during the 1990s. She was gracious, friendly and encouraging. However, my biggest influences are my parents: first-generation immigrants who ran a Chinese restaurant for three decades to send me and my two brothers to college.
