Style Your Story

With September comes the much-anticipated beginning of Fall. Although we are still quite warm here in the Valley, there’s a promise of cooler weather, new fashion, and the upcoming holidays. After a wonderful but hot summer, I know I am particularly looking forward to our cooler season. Like most moms, my fashion varies. Sometimes, I run the red carpet; for others, I am in the early morning carpool line, dropping off my daughters and rocking my pajamas and mom bun.

Style is so unique and individual. Anyone who knows me knows my infinity for fashion and shoes… particularly high heels. September is our Style Issue and I am so excited to share some of Valleys Fashion Icons. From Luxury Jewelry & From clothing to jewelry, we have a little of everything to prepare you for wherever life takes you!

Like many of us, our styles change and evolve with the seasons, the decades, and the newest trends. I have always believed that when you dress your best, you feel your best. Whether it’s a new dress or a timeless set of earrings, every detail tells a story and holds a memory. Whether you are refreshing your wardrobe or pulling out your staples, remember to let your fashion be an expression of who you are.

In the world of fine jewelry, few names command the respect and admiration held by Molina Fine Jewelers and Black, Starr & Frost. These two storied brands have carved their places in history, offering exquisite craftsmanship, timeless designs, and unparalleled customer experiences.

Alfredo J. Molina

Their rich heritage and dedication to excellence make them the epitome of luxury, elegance, and sophistication.

Alfredo J. Molina, is the visionary behind Molina Fine Jewelers. Molina Fine Jewelers stands as a beacon of worldclass gems and masterful jewelry craftsmanship. Tracing its roots back to 1634 in Milan, Italy, Molina represents centuries of jewelry-making expertise. The brand’s showroom is more than a place to purchase jewelry; it is a sanctuary where clients receive concierge-level service and personalized attention. Each visit promises a journey through the annals of fine jewelry, where customers can design their next heirloom piece with the guidance of skilled artisans.

Founded in 1810, Black, Starr & Frost is America’s first jeweler, a title that carries a legacy of nearly uninterrupted history. The brand pays homage to its remarkable past through timeless designs and everyday luxury collections. Stepping into their showroom is an experience unlike any other, where the charm of history blends seamlessly with modern luxury. Clients can enjoy a curated selection of pieces that perfectly complement their personal aesthetic, all while sipping on a glass of champagne.

Both Molina Fine Jewelers and Black, Starr & Frost pride themselves on serving a diverse clientele. Each customer brings unique preferences, celebrating life’s milestones with pieces that speak to their individual stories. The experienced sales professionals offer an elevated experience,

ensuring that each selection is a perfect match for the client’s taste and style. Whether you are beginning your jewelry collection or adding a custom masterpiece, Molina and Black, Starr & Frost provide the expertise and personal touch needed to find or create the ideal item.

Alfredo Molina shared the guiding philosophy behind these esteemed brands, encapsulated in a simple yet profound mantra from the book “Rhinoceros Success” by Scott Alexander: “Keep charging and have thick skin.” This philosophy resonates deeply with the ethos of Molina Fine Jewelers and Black, Starr & Frost. It is a reminder to persevere, to ignore detractors, and to keep moving forward with determination and resilience. This mindset not only fuels the success of these brands but also inspires their clients and the community.

For Alfredo, the business is more than a profession; it is a lifelong passion. Inspired by his grandfather at a young age, Alfredo developed a deep love for jewelry, cultivated amidst rows of master jewelers and the feel of raw metal. His grandfather was instrumental in his life, introducing him to the art and emotional value of jewelry making at the age of eight. This passion translates into a profound dedication to both the craft and the clients, creating an environment where every client feels like family.

The heart of Molina Fine Jewelers extends beyond its luxurious offerings. Alfredo’s journey from Cuban refugee to successful jeweler instilled a profound commitment to giving back. Early experiences of generosity inspired a lifelong dedication to philanthropy, supporting charities such as Teen Lifeline, Childhelp, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. “I have been very lucky. I started with nothing and had challenges like we all do. But I’ve always had the belief that we need to help people who are less fortunate,” Molina says. “It’s never been about money. It’s always been about doing the right thing for people.” This spirit of community stewardship is integral to the brand’s identity, ensuring that their success benefits those in need.

“When you have clients who feel like family, work doesn’t feel like work. I love what I do and never feel like I’ve worked a day in my life.”
“I have been very lucky. I started with nothing and had challenges like we all do. But I’ve always had the belief that we need to help people who are less fortunate. It’s never been about money. It’s always been about doing the right thing for people.”

Walking into Molina and Black Starr & Frost you will always see beautiful, cascading fresh floral arrangements. Every detail inside Molina has a rich history and amazing story. From the many Rhinos that have been gifted to Alfredo from clients, and treasures collected around the world that hold special memories, to family treasures that have been passed through the generations, there is always an amazing story behind each piece. With such dedication and commitment to his clients Alfredo Molina says “Every client is like family and when you love what you do, it never truly feels like work”. When Alfredo is not working he enjoys the simple pleasure of being home, relaxing and watching movies or spending time in his garden.

and bonding BEAUTY, BUSINESS,

HOW TWO SISTERS TURNED THEIR PASSION FOR BEAUTY INTO A THRIVING AND UNIQUE LASH STUDIO.

Starting a business with a sibling brings unique challenges and rewards. For these two sisters, Leslie PhilpReese and Lindsey Philp, launching a lash studio in Surprise was a dream driven by their shared passion for beauty and wellness. In this interview, they share insights into their journey of working together.

“Starting a business with a sibling brings unique challenges and rewards. Our combined skills and vision made launching our lash studio in Surprise the perfect venture. We wanted to create a place where people feel confident and beautiful.”

What inspired you to start a lash studio together in Surprise?

LESLIE & LINDSEY: We wanted to be multi-unit owners from the start, and Surprise became our third location because of its growing community and business opportunities.

How do you divide responsibilities and manage the business as sisters?

LESLIE: I handle marketing, social media, and public relations, leveraging my background in sports PR.

LINDSEY: I manage operations and daily management. We consult each other on major decisions and complement each other’s strengths.

What unique services or experiences does your lash studio offer compared to others in the area?

LESLIE & LINDSEY: We offer lash extensions, lifts, facial waxing, and brow services, along with a personalized experience. Our focus on customer service sets us apart.

How has the lash industry changed since you started your business, and how have you adapted?

LESLIE & LINDSEY: The beauty industry has evolved significantly since we opened in 2020. We’ve partnered with local schools to support new lash stylists and adapt to industry changes.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as business partners and sisters, and how did you overcome it?

LESLIE & LINDSEY: Learning to trust each other in our roles. We’ve grown by recognizing each other’s strengths and supporting one another. We’ve overcome it by giving each other the time and tools to improve and succeed.

What advice would you give to other siblings considering starting a business together?

LESLIE: Allow each other room to grow and make mistakes. Lean into each other’s strengths and work as a team.

LINDSEY: Take a chance—it’s completely worth it!
