September brings with it our annual STYLE issue, with fashion trends and tips that will help keep you on top of the latest styles. The fashion world continuously brings us a fresh new take on something from generations past or shares an entirely new concept for us to enjoy. Fashion choices can reveal a little bit of our personality, so it’s a great way to express ourselves. And with the changing of seasons comes a good time for a wardrobe refresh. We have you covered with where to find the newest fall styles around town, in our fashion spread that features the talented and beautiful Stahlschmidt sisters. We also have a handy listing of area fashion boutiques in our Local Experiences section.
An annual event you also don’t want to miss is the 27th Annual Mosaics Fine Art Festival in Historic St. Charles, featuring the works of numerous artists including Melinda Engel Runge, page 18. So whatever you’re doing this month, we hope you do it with your own unique style. There’s only one YOU! We’re glad you’ve chosen to be a City Lifestyle reader/supporter as we continue to highlight the best of what our community has to offer!
Inspired by you,
Another fall trend is football, and we encourage you to check out Lindenwood’s community “fan fair,” Lion Pride Tailgating, on campus before each home game (see schedule on page 35).

ARTIST’S PALETTE | ARTS + CULTURE
PETERSJUDYBYARTICLE
About eight years ago, Melinda Engel Runge was painting with brushes as usual, but couldn’t get the look she wanted. So, she says she used her finger to push, pull and “smoosh” to get the look she was going for. And since then, she has put down all her brushes and creates now using only her fingers.
18
“Being able to feel the paint on my fingers and applying it to a canvas turned out to be a spiritual tactile epiphany for me,” says Melinda. "Every painting you see is done entirely using my fingers and layering and layering the paint. I work with water-based oils to get the same look as oils with a bit of a faster drying time. The final prod uct is what I affectionately call 'Adult Fingerpainting.'”Bornandraised in St. Louis, Melinda says she spent many, many days with her grandpa, who taught her how to create art, a talent he inherited from his mother, Eleanor Hartwell, a highly regarded member of the St. Louis ArtistsMelindaGuild.worked 25 years in corpo rate sales and it’s only been in the last 10 years that she has focused more on her art, which can be enjoyed, and purchased, on her website: EngelRungeArt.com/. It’s also fun to watch her create on her Facebook vid eos (Melinda Engel Runge Art).
Melinda’s art focuses mainly on ani mals and nature. “You may notice a hint of Impressionism. I was greatly influenced by Monet, Renoir, Manet, Seurat, Pissarro, Cezanne and many more. In their styles, I found my style. I consider myself more of an interpretive painter. I tend to see colors in animals that most people do not see and I try to reflect my interpretation of those colors in my paintings,” she says.

“We’ve both been supported by our hometown community in so many ways,” Abigail says. “Gabrielle and I have seen our community cheer us on time and time again. When I look back, it’s truly incredi ble to see how many of our memories and friendships have been made here, and just how many people have supported us at various points in our careers. This is a full circle moment for my sister and I, and we’re so grateful.”
An internationally recognized electric violinist and professional model, Abigail is currently working on a solo album in Nashville, after finishing touring with the European symphonic-metal band, Vivaldi Metal Project. Along with shows in Italy, Amsterdam and Finland, she toured Bulgaria and shot a fashion editorial with Elle m agazine while there.

Gabrielle says the honor was hers. “With both of our careers requiring so much of our individual attention, being able to spend the day together, while enjoying the incredible surroundings that our hometown has to offer, was truly special. There’s nothing better than being able to bond with your sister while dress ing up in beautiful fashions.”
Jerri says outfitting the Stahlschmidt sisters in the heart of the wine region she’s invested so much in was a dream come true for her. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a young woman,” she says. “It’s a sweet spot for me. And it’s a perfect fit with the way we are growing with Augusta. It was thrilling to see our clothes spring to life on these wonderful, accomplished young women,” Jerri adds. “They are not just pretty faces. They are amazing, young women, and St. Charles should be very proud of them.”
Augusta Clothing Company features women’s clothing and accessories—fash ions Jerri describes as classic ‘wine-coun try’ casual clothing, as well as posh and polished looks for an evening out. Augusta Clothing Company is part of the Hoffmann Family of Companies; Jerri and husband, David Hoffmann’s, privately owned con glomerate of more than 50 companies. Natives of Washington, Missouri, the cou ple has invested about $150 million in and around Augusta over the past year with plans to turn the region into an interna tional wine-tourism destination, similar to Napa Valley in California.
Jerri says her clothes are for both young women and mature women who enjoy life and who don’t take themselves too seriously. "It’s fashion. It’s fun. And it’s a great creative outlet. We're bridging that gap between high-end couture and con temporary misses. It's classic, but with an updated look. We have a resort vibe, which we feel is perfect for the wine country.”
And for Jerri, retail seems to be in the genes. She says her great, great, great grandfather opened the first mercantile in Washington, Missouri. The building that housed the Kahmann Mercantile Store in the mid-19th century still stands at the cor ner of 2nd and Elm Streets in Washington.
