Hello neighbor,
INTERN
MaKayla Allen
I hope this letter finds you inspired and ready to embrace the beauty of self-expression. Style is such an extraordinary part of life—it’s far more than the clothes we wear or the accessories we choose. Style is woven into every detail of our existence, from the way we decorate our homes to the art and music we enjoy, the books we read, and even how we interact with the world around us. It’s the unique thread that creates the tapestry of who we are. What makes style so captivating is its deeply personal nature. It evolves alongside us as we explore new interests, embrace our quirks, and express what we value most. It’s a language without words, a powerful tool for connection that can bridge differences and spark shared understanding. Here in Southlake, we’re fortunate to have endless opportunities to celebrate and explore style, with XAR as the premier clothier and D-Flawless as the premier jeweler—both hands-on, small-business leaders who tailor to each client’s needs in a way only such owners can. Whether it’s through visiting their showrooms, supporting creative entrepreneurs, or simply drawing inspiration from our city’s vibrant culture, there’s so much to ignite your creativity and lift your spirit. This month, I encourage you to think of style as an authentic expression of yourself. The most beautiful style is one that reflects who you truly are—your passions, your story, your individuality. And the incredible thing is that no one else in the world can replicate that. So go ahead, celebrate your unique style. Whether you’re exploring new trends, blending classic elements, or creating something entirely original, let this issue inspire you to embrace the power of self-expression. Here’s to being unapologetically and uniquely you!

Some vacations fade into memories. Others become part of your story. Aruba is one of those places. Affectionately known as One Happy Island, Aruba welcomes travelers with crystal-clear waters, sugar-white beaches, nearly perfect weather, and sunsets that seem to stretch endlessly across the sky. Adventure awaits around every corner, from snorkeling through the island's brilliant Caribbean waters to discovering Aruba's rich aloe heritage, a tradition deeply woven into its history and culture. Rise early to watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the iconic California Lighthouse, or pause for a quiet moment of reflection at the peaceful Alto Vista Chapel, where breathtaking views remind you to simply slow down. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or meaningful moments along the way, Aruba is everything you imagine a tropical island escape should be—and so much more. But somewhere between your first glimpse of Palm Beach and your first warm "Bon Bini," meaning "welcome" in Papiamento, the islands affectionate language, something unexpected happens. You discover that Aruba's greatest treasure isn't found in the turquoise water or swaying palm trees. It's found in its people. That feeling begins the moment you arrive at the newly renovated Aruba Marriott Resort. Yes, the views are spectacular. The accommodations are beautifully redesigned. The dining is exceptional. The beach is everything you imagined and more. Yet what truly sets this resort apart cannot be captured in a photograph. It is the genuine warmth that greets you from the moment you walk through the doors and stays with you long after you've returned home. "The heart of our resort is our people," says Complex General Manager Raoul Lemmerling. "Our associates, their genuine warmth, passion and dedication to service is truly what makes us special. We have many associates that have been with us for decades, and hospitality is deeply rooted in Aruban culture. That true warmth and feeling stays with our guests even after they have left the island—that is the Aruba effect." It's impossible to spend even a day at the Aruba Marriott without understanding exactly what he means. Every interaction feels authentic. Team members greet you with sincere smiles, remember your name, ask about your day, and celebrate your experiences as if they were their own. By the end of your stay, it feels less like checking out of a hotel and more like saying goodbye to friends. Following an extensive renovation completed in late 2025, every guest room and suite now reflects the natural beauty of Aruba with a sophisticated coastal design inspired by the island's tranquil colors and relaxed elegance. Spacious accommodations, many overlooking the brilliant Caribbean Sea, create a peaceful retreat after days spent exploring the island or simply relaxing on Palm Beach. The resort itself has mastered the art of offering something for every traveler, making it the perfect destination for honeymoons, destination weddings, anniversaries, family vacations, and corporate retreats. Families gather around the lively pool before heading out to enjoy complimentary paddleboards, kayaks, and snorkeling equipment, while couples retreat to the adults-only H2Oasis pool, private cabanas, or the award-winning Mandara Spa, the largest spa on the island.
“The heart of our resort is our people. Our associates, their genuine warmth, passion and dedication to service is truly what makes us special.” — Complex General Manager Raoul Lemmerling Wellness here goes beyond a massage. Inspired by Aruba's rich aloe heritage, the Mandara Spa incorporates locally grown aloe into several signature treatments, allowing guests to experience one of the island's most treasured natural resources in a truly relaxing way. The connection to aloe continues throughout the resort, where handcrafted cocktails infused with locally grown aloe can be enjoyed at Mercát and the Lobby Bar, offering a refreshing taste of Aruba in every sip. Of course, no visit would be complete without experiencing the resort's remarkable culinary offerings. Mornings begin at the newly opened Nana's, where every breakfast is thoughtfully prepared and served with warm island hospitality. More than just another restaurant, Nana's creates the comforting feeling of gathering in someone's home kitchen. "Inspired by the warmth of a traditional Dutch kitchen, Nana's brings together the simple joys of freshly made pancakes, golden stroopwafels, and delicate poffertjes," says Director of Sales and Marketing Aisling Seberry. "But Nana's is more than a cozy kitchen—it's a feeling. It's the comfort of someone cooking just for you... warm, welcoming, and made with love." That same philosophy extends throughout the resort's diverse dining experiences. Guests can enjoy Mediterranean-inspired flavors at Mercát, casual beachfront lunches by the pool, handcrafted sushi and cocktails in the lively Lobby Bar, or an unforgettable evening at Atardi, where tables are set directly on the sand and dinner is served alongside one of Aruba's spectacular sunsets. With ten restaurants and bars, every meal becomes part of the journey. While the Aruba Marriott makes it wonderfully easy to spend an entire vacation without leaving the property, the island itself invites discovery. Crystal-clear waters make snorkeling an unforgettable adventure, revealing shipwrecks, playful sea turtles and colorful marine life beneath the Caribbean’s surface. Visitors can also explore Aruba's fascinating history at the Aruba Aloe Factory, where they learn how aloe has shaped the island's culture for generations. These authentic experiences deepen your appreciation for an island whose beauty extends far beyond its beaches. CONTINUED >

Yet no matter where the day leads, returning to the Aruba Marriott always feels like coming home. That feeling is no accident. More than 150 associates recently celebrated 30 years with the Aruba Marriott, a remarkable milestone that reflects the enduring culture cultivated within the resort. "It speaks volumes about the execution of our values," Seberry says. "These team members have shaped our legacy. They have passed through knowledge and direction to the new generation, and it has helped create a culture of excellence. The Aruban happiness of our people is catching, and they are very proud of the island and wearing a Marriott name tag." Perhaps that's why so many of the resort's guests return again and again. They're welcomed back by familiar faces who remember their favorite table, their preferred drink, or simply ask how the family is doing. It's a level of hospitality that cannot be taught—it can only come from people who genuinely love what they do. As the final evening arrives, the sun slowly melts into the Caribbean Sea, painting the sky in shades of gold, coral, and soft lavender. It's the kind of sunset that reminds you to pause, breathe, and simply be present. You'll remember Aruba's white sand beaches, crystalclear waters, unforgettable dining, and the adventures that filled each day. But what stays with you long after you leave is something far less tangible. It's the feeling of being welcomed. The feeling of belonging. The feeling that, somehow, in just a few short days, a luxury resort became a place that felt like home. That is the Aruba effect.

D-Flawless J ewelers Where Luxury Meets Lasting Relationships ARTICLE BY SAMANTHA FARRIS PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAMANTHA FARRIS AND D-FLAWLESS JEWELERS
The most memorable jewelry isn’t measured by its sparkle alone. It’s measured by the memories it represents, the milestones it celebrates, and the people who wear it. That commitment has shaped every experience at D-Flawless Jewelers, where clients are welcomed like friends and every piece is chosen with purpose. Step inside D-Flawless Jewelers and you will quickly discover it feels less like a retail store and more like visiting a good friend. Guests are welcomed with genuine conversation, a glass of wine, and an invitation to stay awhile. Whether stopping in for a professional jewelry cleaning, redesigning a treasured heirloom,

creating a custom piece, or searching for the perfect gift, clients are encouraged to slow down, relax, and enjoy the experience. “We try to make it a warm, inviting, comfortable feeling here,” says owner Darla Stapleton. “Some people come in to have their jewelry cleaned and end up staying for an hour or two just visiting.” That welcoming philosophy has guided Darla throughout her career. This October, she celebrates 34 years in the jewelry industry, including 25 years serving the Southlake community. During that time, she has built more than just a successful jewelry boutique.
She has built lasting relationships with generations of families who return to celebrate life’s biggest moments together. From timeless diamond earrings and elegant necklaces, to designer collections, engagement rings, wedding bands, colored gemstones, and one-of-a-kind custom creations, D-Flawless Jewelers offers something for every occasion. They also specialize in jewelry repairs, heirloom redesigns, and custom jewelry, transforming cherished pieces into fresh designs that can be enjoyed for generations to come. Every consultation is personal because every client has a unique vision worth bringing to life. “No matter what you’re buying it for, every piece of jewelry has a story,” Darla shares. That belief shapes every appointment. The focus is never simply on the jewelry. It’s about preserving memories, celebrating life’s milestones, and creating meaningful pieces that become part of a family’s legacy. To make gift giving effortless, D-Flawless Jewelers offers personalized wish lists that allow clients to curate their favorite pieces throughout the year. When a special occasion arrives, family and friends can shop with confidence, knowing they’re selecting a gift that’s both heartfelt and truly desired. It’s another thoughtful touch that reflects Darla’s commitment to creating a personalized experience for every client. Behind every exceptional experience is an equally exceptional team. Darla credits the people around her for creating the warm atmosphere clients have come to know and love. Together, they have cultivated a culture centered on hospitality, expert craftsmanship, trust, and genuine care. Those relationships extend far beyond the showroom. Many who first visited years ago now return with their children and grandchildren, continuing traditions that span generations. Some stop by simply to say hello, have their jewelry cleaned, or share news about another exciting chapter in their lives. Those moments are just as meaningful to Darla and her staff as the jewelry itself. In a world where luxury is often defined by exclusivity, D-Flawless Jewelers offers something even more enduring: authenticity. Every visit is personal. Every piece carries meaning. Every milestone is celebrated with care. And every client is welcomed like family. For those seeking timeless jewelry, expert guidance, and a truly personalized experience, D-Flawless Jewelers continues to prove that true luxury isn’t found only in diamonds and gemstones. It’s found in the relationships that last a lifetime. S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/ S O UT HL A KE

For Roxanne "Roxy" Knight, healthy skin has never been about chasing perfection. It is about helping people feel confident in their own skin through education, personalized care, and lasting results. As founder and licensed esthetician of SkinRX Clinical Spa, Roxy opened her business in 2015 with a vision that went beyond traditional medical spa services. After years of working in the aesthetics industry, she recognized that clients wanted more than one-size-fits-all treatments. They wanted someone who would create a plan designed specifically for them.
That philosophy remains the foundation of SkinRX today. "We take the time to truly listen, understand each client's primary concern, and educate them about their skin before recommending a treatment," Roxy says. "Our focus is long-term skin health, not quick fixes or unnecessary procedures." SkinRX relocated to Southlake in 2017, a natural move as many of its clients already lived in Southlake, Westlake, and surrounding communities. Roxy's family was deeply involved in local schools, athletics, and community organizations, making Southlake feel like home. "What I love most about Southlake is its incredible sense of community," Roxy says. "People genuinely support one another, celebrate each other's successes, and invest in local businesses." Roxy's passion for skincare began at just 14 years old while watching her mother, a spa owner in Florida, care for clients. Years later, that passion became personal when she experienced cystic acne after having children and was diagnosed with melanoma in 2014. "I understand what it feels like to lose confidence in your skin and feel overwhelmed by all the products, treatments, and conflicting advice available," Roxy says. Those experiences inspired her to create the kind of spa she once needed herself, combining advanced clinical treatments with a relaxing, luxury experience. Today, SkinRX offers customized facials, chemical peels, microneedling, laser treatments, radiofrequency skin tightening, acne care, pigmentation correction, oncology facials, and pregnancy-safe treatments.
The practice was also the first in Texas to offer Density RF, an advanced collagen-stimulating technology developed in Korea. Education continues to be the driving force behind every appointment, with treatments tailored to each individual client's specific goals, lifestyle, and budget. The team also participates in ongoing training throughout the year to stay at the forefront of skincare technology and safety. Beyond the treatment room, Roxy is equally passionate about serving the community. She serves on the board of the Southlake Women's Club, is co-president of the Carroll Emerald Belle Booster Club, and supports numerous local schools and nonprofits. At the heart of everything she does is a simple mission. "Healthy skin is not about perfection. It is about confidence," Roxy says. "Our mission at SkinRX is to educate and cultivate confidence. We are incredibly grateful to be part of the Southlake community and honored to care for generations of families who have trusted us with their skin over the years.” For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit dfwskinrx.com or follow @skinrxsouthlake on social media.

OF MIRACLE LEAGUE OF SOUTHLAKE
Baseball, Belonging, and Unforgettable Moments
28
LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE
ARTICLE BY SAMANTHA FARRIS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOANNE TERRELL
Where Miracles Take the Field
There are few places where the true meaning of community is more evident than at Miracle League of Southlake. Every Saturday during baseball season, the field comes alive with cheers, laughter, high-fives, and unforgettable moments as athletes with special needs experience the joy of America's favorite pastime. What began as a dream to make baseball accessible for everyone has grown into an extraordinary organization that not only changes the lives of its athletes, but also impacts families, volunteers, and the entire Southlake community. Executive Board Secretary Joanne Terrell explains that Miracle League of Southlake exists to "provide all members of the special needs community, regardless of their abilities, the opportunity to play baseball in a safe and enjoyable environment and to promote community support and sponsorship of the Miracle League of Southlake." While baseball is at the heart of the organization, Terrell says the mission extends far beyond the game itself. "Since the inception of Miracle League of Southlake, we have had a three-prong focus," she says. "Obviously, first and foremost, are the athletes themselves. Our second focus is the parents. Our goal
is to give them about an hour each week where they do not have to be the primary caregiver and can just sit in the stands and cheer on their athlete. Our third focus is the volunteers. Our goal is to bridge the divide between the special needs and neurotypical communities." One of Terrell's favorite descriptions perfectly captures what makes Miracle League so special. "If I were to tell you about an organized youth baseball league, you might call it ordinary. If I were to tell you the athletes were mentally and physically challenged, you might call it touching. If you were to see them play, you would call it a miracle." That miracle became possible through the dedication of local community leaders. In 2007, when the City of Southlake announced plans to redevelop Bicentennial Park, several residents who had volunteered with Miracle League of DFW saw an opportunity to bring a Miracle League field to Southlake. With the support of city leaders, passionate advocates, generous donors, and countless volunteers, years of fundraising and construction followed before the first Miracle League of Southlake season officially began in the fall of 2015.
Today, the league serves approximately 250 athletes ranging in age from 5 to 65. Unlike many Miracle League organizations, Southlake does not have an upper age limit, ensuring athletes can continue enjoying the game for years to come. Every game is played on a specially designed synthetic field with painted baselines and bases, eliminating tripping hazards and allowing athletes who use wheelchairs, walkers, or have visual impairments to safely participate. Each player is paired with a volunteer buddy who provides whatever level of assistance is needed. Sometimes that means helping swing a bat or navigate the bases. Other times, it simply means sharing smiles, encouragement, and friendship throughout the game. One of the organization's most remarkable features is that participation is completely free. "Thanks to our amazing sponsors, there is no cost to our athletes to play baseball," Terrell says. "Uniforms, baseball equipment, a free stadium lunch every Saturday, and even the Miracle League field itself are all provided by the generous support we receive from the city, foundations, charities, local businesses, service organizations, and individuals." She recalls one mother who shared just how meaningful that support was. "There was no room in their budget for extracurricular activities. Without the support of our sponsors, her son would not have been able to play baseball." Over the years, Miracle League has created countless unforgettable moments for families. One of Terrell's favorites involves a young girl who was completely nonverbal when she joined the league during its inaugural season. "On the fifth Saturday of the season, as they were walking to the field, she looked at her mom and said, 'Ball?' It was the first word she had ever spoken." Another athlete began playing at age five while using a wheelchair to round the bases. Years later, strengthened through determination and confidence, he now runs the bases independently while his buddy simply stays close by. The league's impact extends well beyond the athletes. Volunteers often discover that their experience changes their own lives just as much as those they are helping. Before Miracle League's first season, Terrell volunteered in the attendance office at Carroll High School, where she regularly
watched students in special education classes and neurotypical students pass each other in the hallways without interaction. Just weeks after Opening Day, everything changed. "They were greeting each other by name and high-fiving in the hallways. The first time I saw it, I just stood there and cried because the system worked exactly the way we hoped it would." Many teen volunteers return season after season, forming genuine friendships with the athletes. Some have even discovered future career paths through their experiences. "I had a mom tell me that her daughter had volunteered with many different organizations. The only volunteer opportunity she truly loved was Miracle League. She became a special education teacher after graduating from college." For Terrell, these moments represent the true legacy of Miracle League of Southlake. The organization hosts two seven-week seasons each year, with games taking place in the spring and fall. Community members are always encouraged to attend, volunteer, or simply spend a Saturday cheering from the stands. "We invite you to join us and be a cheering fan in the stands," Terrell says. "You would be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable or uplifting way to spend a Saturday. I hope to see you at the ball field!" S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/ S O UT HL A KE

THE HUE ARTICLE BY SAMANTHA FARRIS PHOTOGRAPHY BY AKHIL “CLICKBRIGHT7”
Theory Where Confidence Meets Color
For Meghna Deva, Founder & Creative Director of The HUE Theory, fashion has never been simply about clothing. It is about confidence, self-expression, and creating timeless pieces that make women feel extraordinary. After more than two decades designing luxury apparel for some of the world's most respected fashion houses in New York City, she transformed a lifelong dream into a brand that reflects exceptional attention to detail while encouraging women to embrace color with confidence. Meghna's journey began in India, where her fascination with textiles, artistry, and beautifully crafted garments inspired an ambitious vision. That dream eventually led her to Parsons School of Design in New York and a distinguished career designing for leading global brands before launching The HUE Theory. Today, Southlake is where that vision continues to flourish. Meghna, her husband, Saurabh Khandelwal, known to most as Nick, and their children, Vihaan and Myra, are proud to call the community home. From the welcoming atmosphere to the strong sense of connection, Southlake has provided both a place to raise their family and the foundation for building their growing fashion brand. The encouragement and support of the Southlake community gave Meghna the confidence to turn a lifelong dream into a growing luxury fashion brand. "The HUE Theory was born from a simple belief: exceptional craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and beautiful color have the power to transform how a woman feels. Every piece is created to become a conversation starter, inspiring confidence and prompting the question, 'Where did you get that?'" Meghna says.
32
M UST SE E | L I FE + C ULTU RE
That philosophy extends beyond every collection. The "Hue" in The HUE Theory represents every woman's unique personality, confidence, and presence. While neutrals are timeless and elegant, the brand encourages women to embrace color as an expression of who they are. "'No Inhibition' is an invitation to express yourself confidently and without hesitation," Meghna says. "Fashion should never feel limiting. It should be liberating." Each collection blends luxurious fabrics, intentional design, and timeless silhouettes with inspiration drawn from destinations around the world. The current collection captures the elegance of Italy's Amalfi Coast through vibrant prints, refined details, and effortless sophistication designed to become lasting wardrobe favorites rather than seasonal trends. Every garment reflects meticulous attention to fit, fabric selection, and craftsmanship, blending timeless elegance with modern sophistication. As The HUE Theory prepares to introduce its Fall/Winter collection and Spring/Summer 2027 collection, the brand is thoughtfully expanding into a carefully curated selection of luxury boutiques across the Southwest, Northeast, and South, while exploring collaborations with luxury jewelry and accessory brands. Despite that growth, Meghna remains focused on authentic relationships, intentional brand building, and creating exceptional pieces that women will love for years to come. "The HUE Theory has always been about more than beautiful clothing—it's about celebrating confidence, individuality, and the women who inspire us every day," Meghna says. The HUE Theory collection is available locally at XAR Clothier in Southlake and online at thehuetheory.com.
