LIFESTYLE LETTER

Southlake Ladies

May 2025 PUBLISHER

Jon Calvin | jon.calvin@citylifestyle.com

I don’t know about you but I love any opportunity to recognize the women in my life who just make life more rich and beautiful. Our wives, mothers and daughters are some of the most influential women in our lives. And, of course, with Mother’s Day this month, all eyes are on moms… but it’s not just the biological mothers but the mother figures in our lives who have made an indelible impact on us. It’s the family members, teachers, friends and neighbors doing awesome things in our communities, pouring into our lives - making themselves unforgettable and irreplaceable. While it’s always important to shop local and support our area businesses, this month is the perfect time to patronize businesses owned by women in our communities. That’s one of my favorite parts of this role - connecting with and championing the best of the best when it comes to Southlake's women. They are movers and shakers, builders and makers. They are both seen and unseen. Their silent service blesses those who are under their care. Their attention to detail shows us something about beauty that can’t be seen or understood any other way. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to send a text, make a phone call or get your kids on a video call with the women in your life who deserve recognition. It only takes a minute to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much you love them.

At Southlake Dermatology, we offer a broad array of dermatology services, including medical, aesthetic, and surgical options. We have been in business since 1999 and have six total providers to help ensure timely appointments and offer the latest technological advances in skin care. We started out in 1999 in Southlake Town Square with just Dr. Bowers and two employees. Over the years, we have grown alongside the growth of Southlake, now operating in the Southlake Methodist office building. I love the patients that we see and the ability to help the self-esteem of so many teenagers and young people when skin disease affects their visible body. As a mother of two boys, I now have an empty nest, but it was a bit crazy at times trying to keep all the balls in the air. I give all my success to my staff, who are amazing and love people and helping others. It truly does take a village! We strive here at Southlake Dermatology to have a service-oriented practice and are always learning from

our patients to constantly improve. As a dermatologist, we do get called on the weekends, and it can be a challenge to balance family life with our responsibilities as physicians. However, when you love what you do, you find a way to make all the puzzle pieces fit. Our mission at Southlake Dermatology is to leave a legacy of patient experiences where they feel cared for and achieve great results in treating their skin conditions. Over the years, we have given generously through charitable donations—both monetarily and by donating various procedures and skincare products. In addition, we have supported many of the surrounding school districts. Both of my sons have witnessed the impact of giving to others through the blessings of this practice; this has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey. The relationships I have built over the years with patients and staff is also one of the most rewarding parts of being a physician. I have learned so much from them!

SHELLY CLAFFEY, Claffey Pools CAN YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS AND THE SERVICES OR PRODUCTS YOU OFFER?

Claffey Pools is a family-owned pool builder specializing in custom pool design, construction, renovations, service, and weekly maintenance. We’ve been creating outdoor living spaces since 1987, turning backyards into places where families make lifelong memories. Our goal is to bring both beauty and functionality to every project, ensuring our clients enjoy their pools for generations.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS, AND WHAT FUELS YOUR PASSION FOR IT EVERY DAY?

Claffey Pools was founded by my father and built on the foundation of family. Growing up in this industry, I learned early on that pools aren’t just about construction—they’re about the moments they create. Watching families gather, children take their first swim, and generations share the same backyard, brings so much meaning to what we do. When my brothers, Charlie and Brian, and I took over, we carried forward the belief that it’s not just about building pools; it’s about creating spaces where people come together. That passion continues to inspire me every day.

TELL US ABOUT BEING A MOM AND RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS.

When Ashley was little, I had to learn to balance being a mom and growing the business. There were days when she’d be in the office doing homework while I worked on designs or took client calls. Now, with grandkids— and one more on the way!—I see how special it is to have a business that’s truly family-driven. They get to witness hard work, creativity, and the joy that comes from bringing dreams to life.

WHAT IS SOMETHING UNIQUE OR SPECIAL ABOUT THE SERVICE YOU PROVIDE THAT SETS YOUR BUSINESS APART?

What makes Claffey Pools special is our deep-rooted commitment to quality and personal relationships.

28

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE

We aren’t just building pools; we’re building trust with families. Many of our clients come back to us years later for renovations or new pools when they move, or they refer their children to us when they get their own homes. That kind of connection is something you can’t manufacture—it comes from genuinely caring about the people we work with.

AS A MOM AND A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS OWNER, HOW DO YOU FIND BALANCE BETWEEN YOUR FAMILY LIFE AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES?

Balance comes from setting boundaries and being present where you are. When Ashley was young, I had to learn to prioritize—when I was working I gave it my

full attention, and when I was home I focused on being a mom. Now, I try to do the same with my grandkids. There’s always work to be done, but making time for family is just as important.

WHAT LEGACY OR IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO LEAVE THROUGH YOUR BUSINESS FOR YOUR FAMILY?

I hope that Claffey Pools continues to stand for quality, integrity, and family values. Whether it’s my daughter, my grandkids, or our incredible team, I want them to see that success isn’t just about what you build—it’s about how you treat people along the way. If we can continue to create beautiful spaces while making a positive impact on the families we serve, then that’s a legacy worth leaving.

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE

Step inside Texas Blonde Society, and you’re immediately met with more than just the scent of high-end hair products and the soft buzz of blow dryers—you feel it. That warm, electric energy that says you belong here. At the heart of it all is Lindsey Han: award-winning stylist, salon owner, mother of three, Girl Scout leader, and proud born-and-raised Texan with a heart bigger than her 3,000 square foot salon. “I always say we’re more than a salon—we’re a safe haven,” Lindsey shares, her voice equal parts confidence and kindness. “Our mission is to create a space where women can walk in, feel seen, and leave feeling like the absolute best version of themselves.” Texas Blonde Society isn’t your average beauty spot. Think: elevated Fort Worth luxury, on-trend custom color, high-quality extensions, and a team trained to deliver not just a service—but an experience. The salon has won awards for its innovation and excellence, but what makes it truly shine is its soul. And that soul? That’s Lindsey.

Between client appointments, she’s cheering on her kids—Harvey, Oliver, and Madalyn—at Basketball games, band concerts, and Girl Scout troop meetings. “We’re a big, blended family, and it just works,” she laughs. “We show up for each other. That’s what family’s about.” That sense of community is woven into every inch of her business. Lindsey doesn’t just style hair—she builds relationships. “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat behind the chair and had the most honest, beautiful conversations with my clients. We cry, we laugh, we give advice. It’s like therapy—with highlights.” In a world that often feels divided, Lindsey is proving that women supporting women still matters. “I’ve been given advice in this salon that changed the course of my life,” she says. “If we can lift each other up, love each other, and make things better for the next woman in line—we’re doing something right.” She may be transforming blondes, but Lindsey Han’s real superpower? Building something bigger than beauty.

“I wouldn’t be the strong female business owner I am today if it wasn’t for my mom, my aunts and my grandmother paving the way.” Erica Lynch, owner of Sofia Elaine Salon, has created a luxury salon experience with a warm, down-to-earth feel in Westlake’s Entrada development. A proud Euless native, she now lives in Trophy Club with her husband and two sons, deeply connected to the Southlake and Westlake communities. Since opening Sofia Elaine Salon four years ago, Erica and her team have been embraced by the local community, serving clients from all over the area—especially Southlake. As the only L’anza Healing Salon in the region, Sofia Elaine Salon is dedicated to providing highend services while making every client feel their absolute best. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS, AND WHAT FUELS YOUR PASSION FOR IT EVERY DAY?

After years as an executive at a Fortune 100 company—and moving eight times during my career—I had a front-row seat to the challenges of buying and selling a home. I noticed the process could be so much smoother and more personal. Leaving the corporate world gave me the chance to combine my passion for business and people with a mission to improve the real estate experience for everyone.

AS A MOM AND A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS OWNER, HOW DO YOU FIND BALANCE BETWEEN YOUR FAMILY LIFE AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES?

I’ll be honest, when you’re obsessed with client satisfaction and love your profession, it can be hard. Since typically our client’s largest investment whether buying or selling is their home - they need special time and attention.

The luxury of the George & Noonan Group is that we have the ability to leverage the skills of each team member to ensure that our client’s needs are met.

WHAT LEGACY OR IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO LEAVE THROUGH YOUR BUSINESS FOR YOUR FAMILY?

SUSAN SEMMELMANN, Semmelmann Interiors CAN YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS AND THE SERVICES OR PRODUCTS YOU OFFER?

My business, Semmelmann Interiors, is a full-service couture interior design firm specializing in everything from construction detailing and architectural design to custom furnishings and decor. At the core of our work is the belief that home is a sanctuary, so we curate every detail to foster connection, comfort, and a sense of belonging—using each space to reflect our clients’ unique stories. Our signature aesthetic, Organic Glamour, merges ethereality with innovation to make a bold statement.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS, AND WHAT FUELS YOUR PASSION FOR IT EVERY DAY?

When my husband battled a rare form of bone cancer, the odds were against him—but by God’s divine grace, he survived. That experience changed everything. We had been given a second chance, and I knew I had to do something meaningful with it. A few years later, as my children prepared to leave home, I sat at a table with other moms facing the same transition. Many felt lost, unsure of what came next. But I didn’t see it as an ending—I saw it as the beginning. With nearly two decades in the design industry, I realized my calling wasn’t just to create beautiful spaces, but to serve others through design. That’s why I started Semmelmann Interiors. Faith is the foundation of everything we do, and giving is our response to the blessings we’ve received. Every day, I wake up knowing our work isn’t just about interiors—it’s about creating homes that bring people together, reflect their stories, and inspire each of us to live life on purpose.

TELL US ABOUT BEING A MOM AND RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS.

Motherhood has shaped the way I run my business in every possible way. The same heart that goes into raising a family goes into leading a team, serving clients, and creating spaces that bring people together. I see both as an extension of the same calling—building something meaningful, something lasting, something that nurtures.

36

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE

My kids have watched me pour myself into this work, and in doing so, I hope they’ve learned that success isn’t just about what you accomplish, but how you use your gifts to impact others. At the end of the day, whether at home or in business, my goal is the same: to create a legacy of faith, generosity, and purpose.

WHAT IS SOMETHING UNIQUE OR SPECIAL ABOUT THE SERVICE YOU PROVIDE THAT SETS YOUR BUSINESS APART?

We don’t just design homes—we create experiences that match the lifestyle you’ve built. For those who live boldly, dream big, and say yes to the best, your home should be a seamless extension of that. Every detail is intentional, every space tells a story, and every project is an opportunity to elevate the way you live. With in-house artisans crafting custom pieces and a concierge-level process designed for effortless luxury, we take care of everything—so you can focus on enjoying it. From grand entertaining spaces to intimate retreats, we design homes that are not just beautiful but are a reflection of your success, your story, and the life you were meant to live.

AS A MOM AND A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS OWNER, HOW DO YOU FIND BALANCE BETWEEN YOUR FAMILY LIFE AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES?

I believe you can do it all—not because it’s easy, but because with God’s provision, we are given exactly what we need. For me, that means enough time to invest in my family, enough energy to pour into my work, and

enough grace to wake up every day ready to build His kingdom. It’s not about choosing between family and career—it’s about showing up fully in both. My kids see me working hard, leading with integrity, and creating something bigger than myself, and I hope that empowers them to chase their own callings with the same faith and determination. “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded.” (Luke 12:48) I know I have been entrusted with something greater than myself, and because of that, I don’t hold back. I give everything I am and everything I have—because I understand what a gift it is to steward both my children and my business with purpose and gratitude.

WHAT LEGACY OR IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO LEAVE THROUGH YOUR BUSINESS FOR YOUR FAMILY?

I want my children to understand that success isn’t measured by what you have, but by what you pour into the lives of others. My hope is that they see a legacy built not just on beautiful spaces, but on faith, generosity, and the unwavering belief that our gifts are meant to be shared. I want them to know that life isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment—it’s about stepping forward in faith, embracing the unknown, and trusting that what we build with purpose will always outlast us. If they take anything from my journey, I hope it’s the confidence to lead with integrity, the heart to serve without hesitation, and the wisdom to know that the greatest rewards in life come from giving, not getting.

“The same heart that goes into raising a family goes into leading a team, serving clients, and creating spaces that bring people together. I see both as an extension of the same calling— building something meaningful, something lasting, something that nurtures.”

Behind every masterpiece is an artist— one whose hands create beauty, whose mind envisions beyond the surface, and whose heart breathes life into their work. For Jurgita Januseviciene, artistry has never been just about aesthetics; it’s been her way of transforming lives. As a permanent makeup artist, she has spent nearly a decade restoring confidence, redefining beauty, and giving people a renewed sense of self through her incredible work with eyebrows. Her gift extends beyond technical skill—it’s a calling. And that calling has echoed through generations, inspiring her daughters, Ieva and Olivija, to pursue their own artistic dreams in music and visual art. For individuals facing cancer treatments or living with alopecia, losing their eyebrows can be devastating. Jurgita’s meticulous strokes do more than restore symmetry; they bring back a sense of wholeness. Each transformation is deeply personal. The moment a client looks in the mirror—truly seeing themselves—there are often tears, embraces, and overwhelming gratitude. “It’s a responsibility I take very seriously,” Jurgita shares. “Every stroke is made with precision. When they recognize themselves again, that moment is indescribable.” It’s because of this particular perfected skillset that she’s chosen to transition from her own studio, to teaching likeminded artists how to perfect their craft so they can also contribute to lifechanging moments with their clientele. This is truly a way to leave a legacy for the masses. CONTINUED >

Players celebrate a goal just scored!

ARTICLE BY DAVID MUSCARI PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY DALLAS TRINITY FC

Dallas Trinity FC, the city’s first women’s professional team to reside in the Cotton Bowl.

Dallas Trinity FC Dallas-Fort Worth has long been considered a center for soccer. Indoor and outdoor, the sport found its place through youth teams, top-notch high school and college programs, recreational leagues for adults and more. Over the years professional soccer teams have also peppered the region, including the Dallas Tornado, Dallas Sidekicks, Dallas Burn, and, of course, FC Dallas. Founded by legendary sports magnate Lamar Hunt, FC Dallas is now led by his sons Dan and Clark (Clark also runs the Kansas City Chiefs). The team is based north

The Cotton Bowl, which can seat over 90,000, represents the world’s largest venue to serve as a full-time home to a women’s pro sports team. Dallasite Jim Neil is well-known as CEO of Churchill Capital Company, a local real estate investment firm. His children – two sons and two daughters – grew up in Preston Hollow, all playing soccer in one form or another. Neil’s purchase of the Dallas Trinity FC franchise was designed as a family affair. Neil’s daughter, Dori Neil Araiza is the team founder and principal, and all of the Neil children have important roles in the franchise.

of Dallas in Frisco, along with the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars, and plays home games at Toyota Stadium. The FC Dallas complex is also home to the outstanding National Soccer Hall of Fame. Lately, the landscape has changed. Welcome Dallas Trinity FC, the city’s first women’s professional team to reside in the Cotton Bowl. It’s a refreshing change of pace for a market historically dominated by the Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks. Last May the team unveiled its logo to the press, a zippy new version of Pegasus, the fiery winged horse that stands tall within the city’s skyline. Dallas Sports Commission president Monica Paul applauded the city’s involvement. "The future of soccer shines brightly in Dallas,” she said. “The decision to make the Cotton Bowl Stadium home to a USL Super League franchise underscores the city's commitment to sports as a catalyst in its potential to unite communities, inspire youth and captivate fans of all ages," she said.

Araiza recognizes that Dallas is a definitive sports city. “You’ve got every sport you just don’t have women’s soccer.” And she seems well aware of the various headwinds when it comes to starting a new team. While the Dallas Wings continue to search for firm footing in the WNBA, Dallas Trinity FC got off to a solid start last August. The 2024-2025 season started with back-to-back tie scores against Tampa Bay Sun FC and DC Power FC, followed by a pair of wins against Lexington SC in Dallas, and in New York against Brooklyn FC. “We’re trying to give ourselves a leg to stand on and show the city that we’re worth it,” she says. “We’re playing at the highest level that exists for women’s soccer.” Araiza sees a unique void that Trinity FC can fill, as well as various opportunities. “We have more youth soccer players in North Texas than anywhere in the world,” she says. “There is clearly the demand.” As for the other local sports teams, have they reached out to welcome Trinity to the fold? “Yes,” says Araiza. “Some, more than others. However, we are all in this together, and I think the teams recognize that when one does well, we all do well. And everyone has been new at something at some point.” But spirits are high among players, coaches and staff, as well as in terms of growing a loyal fan base. “We’re trying to be strategic in how we are selling tickets, where we’re seating people, and how we generate longevity,” says Araiza. “When people come, they come back … so we hope that our fan base will continue to grow.”

This month the team plays a pair of home games on February 15 against Tampa Bay Sun FC, and then on February 22 versus Spokane Zephyr. Trinity FC’s impressive lineup of talent consists of athletes from some top notch college programs, including SMU, Texas, Northwestern, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Virginia. Several players are from North Texas, and a number logged time with international professional teams. Dallas Trinity FC coach, Pauline MacDonald has a solid reputation within the sport, and played for Scotland’s national team. “Our general manager, Chris Petrucelli, used to coach at SMU,” says Araiza. As with most professional sports teams, winning cures all. Araiza seems well aware. “So far, I think the press has been fair,” she says. “It is a lot easier to get good press when you do well. And we’re playing well. I think that those things go hand in hand.” In the case of Dallas Trinity FC, the march is just beginning. And it should be exciting to watch the journey unfold.
