LIFESTYLE LETTER
LADIES. LADIES. LADIES.
May 2022 PUBLISHER
Chad Jeffry | Chad.Jeffry@citylifestyle.com EDITOR
Paige Candee | paige.candee@citylifestyle.com AD DESIGNER
My entire life, I’ve been around strong and compassionate women. My mother, mothers-in-law, and daughter are easily the four most influential of those. As we were putting together this Ladies’ issue, I considered these relationships to guide and hand-select businesses and content reflective of these women, what they would want to read about, and what they deserve. We found some of the best here in beauty, fitness, and food—ways for our local ladies to pamper themselves, break a sweat, and enjoy a delicious bite. The great thing about these specific businesses and stories is that while it seems so simple, the details behind these operations are truly inspirational. I hope as you read through this issue, you’ll stop by these businesses and enjoy the experiences and expertise they offer to better the community for us all. As we continue to grow South Vegas City Lifestyle, I’m excited to find more women and stories to highlight. If you know of someone you think should be recognized and would like to share your ideas with us, please visit citylifestyle.com/southvegas. As my mom would say, South Vegas, “who loves ya baby!?” Cheers,

Rongavilla Becomes First Woman/First Hispanic Shareholder/Partner at Cragin & Pike
Make-A-Wish® Grants Former Competitive Cheerleader Wish to Be a Celebrity VIP
Las Vegas’ own The Neon Museum was voted No. 1 in the 2022 USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice travel award contest for Best Pop Culture Museum. The Neon Museum was nominated by a panel of travel experts and won the top spot by 10Best.com readers from a field of highly popular and notable museums from across the United States. It was the only museum in Nevada nominated.
Cragin & Pike, Nevada’s largest independent insurance agency, has announced numerous C-Level promotions, including the agency’s first woman/first Hispanic shareholder partner, Dulcinea Rongavilla, who is also named executive vice president. Rongavilla is the first woman and first Hispanic to hold a shareholder/ partner position with the 113-yearold agency. As one of five partners, Rongavilla works with her colleagues to provide short- and long-term strategic direction, new business growth, financial oversight, and leadership development.
Marissa, a 12-year-old former competitive cheerleader, received her wish to be a celebrity VIP thanks to Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada, Resorts World Las Vegas, and Venafi. She received a four-day VIP guest experience with a red-carpet, spa pampering, shopping, and a celebrity photoshoot. Marissa was very active until being diagnosed with Gorham-Stout disease, or “vanishing bone disease.” Because her condition forces her to be homebound, Marissa wanted to disconnect from reality and feel on top of the world again.

2nd Annual Reading to Rescued Dogs “Reading to Rescued Dogs,” sponsored by G.C. Garcia, Inc., recognized Nevada Reading Week to support children as they learn to read. Over two days, first graders practiced their reading skills in front of a “doggie panel” of “Pups on Parole” dogs from Heaven Can Wait Animal Society. Reading to pets is a great, non-threatening way for children to feel comfortable and gain confidence in their reading capabilities. A representative from Spread the Word Nevada also talked to the students about the importance of reading.

30th Annual LVMPD K-9 Trials Hosted by the LVMPD Foundation
Los Vaqueros empower and aid at-risk children, active and retired military families, and seriously ill children and their families within Clark County. Recently, members of Los Vaqueros volunteered to build a hydroponic station in the greenhouse at Variety School Campus. The garden beds, orchard, and greenhouse at the school are integral parts of the curriculum at Variety. Adding the hydroponics system allows students to learn year-round gardening, even in the desert climate.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department K-9 Section hosted the 30th Annual LVMPD K-9 Trials at South Point Arena. Fifty-two teams from multiple agencies and hotels participated in the competitions for Narcotics, Bombs, Area Search, Building Search, Obedience, Agility, and Handler Protection. German Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, Belgian Malinois', Labradors, and English Springer Spaniels competed.

Giving Back Through Pageantry
Mrs. Nevada-America 2021 shares the true role pageantry has in giving back to our community ARTICLE BY LIZA RUAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY GEORGINA VAUGHAN

I NSP IR E D BY | BEAU TY
“It’s important to start building our young women up physically, mentally, and emotionally from a young age.”
While many of our lives were different a year ago than they are today, for Nevada Native Sarah Banda, her life took a surprisingly pleasant turn. Banda’s day-to-day consisted of working as an attorney, being a mother, and bettering her community. But now, she serves as the reigning Mrs. Nevada-America. Here, Banda shares details of her new life and current ventures since her crowning. Banda admittedly expressed that she knew very little about the pageantry world before competing — her knowledge revolved around the more “superficial” glitz and glam elements. Last April, by serendipitous luck, a delegate approached and asked her if she would be interested in competing together. Where Banda lacked pageantry knowledge, she knew she had an infinite love for challenges and new experiences. With only about three months to prepare, Banda dove headfirst into the pageant world, and what she found was a pleasant surprise. The Mrs. America system directly aligned with her passion – giving back to the community. Alongside other inspiring, hard-working, and intelligent women, Banda found a sisterhood she didn’t know she was missing. In the seven months since Banda was crowned Mrs. Nevada-America, she has organized and appeared in more than 30 events and worked with more than 20 organizations. Immediately after her crowning, she attended a salon takeover at Dolce Salon – where local girls received the “full VIP treatment.” Most recently, she organized a photoshoot and picnic with local “warrior girls.” She spent a few hours getting to know them better, learning about their dreams, and creating memories she calls “unforgettable.”
“To be Mrs. Nevada-America also means that you are responsible for ensuring everyone knows they are welcome, accepted, and included in the sisterhood,” Banda shared. Banda has a “Keys to Empowerment” platform geared towards helping young girls and women discover their “limitless potential.” She coaches developmental programs such as “Girls on the Run,” geared towards developing strong women by building them up physically, mentally, and emotionally. “As women, we wear so many hats. We are mothers, wives, entrepreneurs, stay-at-home moms, friends, etc. We spread ourselves thin, and we forget the importance of self-care. We forget that we are best able to take care of others and of all of our other responsibilities if we are mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy. Therefore, it’s important to start building our young women up physically, mentally, and emotionally from a young age.” Banda enjoys helping young girls and women get out of their comfort zone and become “anything and everything” they want in life; this is why she loves pageantry. “Pageantry forces you to self-reflect, figure out what matters most to you, and become the best version of yourself.” Now fully immersed in the pageant world, she believes in the work Mrs. Nevada state representatives put into our communities and believes many other women in our community would be “amazing and influential” representatives as well. For those interested in giving back to the community and becoming involved with the sisterhood of pageantry, Banda shares the next 2022 Mrs. Nevada-America Pageant will take place June 10th-12th at the Santa Fe Station, and the public is welcome.

TIFFANY YOUNG AND FAMILY BRING THE HEAT TO THE VALLEY HOTWORX 24hr Infrared Fitness Studios share the latest in health and wellness
ARTICLE BY AIDA LASHUA PHOTOGRAPHY BY NOLEN RYAN
The latest innovation in the health and wellness space has arrived in the southwest part of the valley, but as owner and franchisee, Tiffany Young shares, it is not just another gym. HOTWORX is a 24hr infrared fitness studio. With virtual instruction and diverse workout options, the infrared heat technology delivered inside patented fitness saunas makes HOTWORX revolutionary in the fitness industry. HOTWORX redefines the workout by making it accessible and brief, by providing health benefits well beyond those of traditional exercise programs. At HOTWORX, the motto is “more workout, less time,” feasible thanks to the addition of infrared heat, which has been proven to increase caloric burn. Infrared heat penetrates the skin 1 ½”, increasing core body temperature, which reduces overall inflammation, a leading cause of disease. Plus, the higher internal body temperature serves to boost metabolic rate for up to one-hour post-workout, a muchwelcomed side effect. CONTINUED >

Unlike the humid heat used for hot yoga, infrared heat is comparable to the heat from the sun (without its damaging effects) has been found to improve circulation, immunity function, mood, and sleep. Infrared heat exposure, on its own, has been known to deliver health benefits, but combining it with movement reduces pain and stiffness, accelerates injury recovery, and may even decrease the side effects of diabetes. Renowned Osteopathic Physician, Joseph M. Mercola, M.D. recommends heat therapy, like that of the HOTWORX sauna, to increase heat shock proteins (HSP), improve blood flow and rejuvenate the brain. The participation in infrared heat workouts 4 or more times a week has led to a reduction in risk of high blood pressure by 47 percent, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease by 66 percent and of premature death from all causes by 40 percent. (Mercola, 2020). Beneficial and appropriate for all ages and fitness levels, the HOTWORX workouts can be a brief 15-minute High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout or a longer 30-minute Isometric workout. Three virtual instructors guide the sessions and assist with modifications for lower impact movement if needed. Members simply choose their preferred time and workout type on the studio’s app, enter their sauna as scheduled, and complete the personalized virtual workout in 30 minutes or less. CONTINUED >

As a working mom with limited time for self-care, Tiffany was immediately drawn to the flexibility of the program and “became passionate about bringing it to Las Vegas.” Along with her husband Ken and their son, Kenny, and daughter, Hannah, Tiffany primarily wanted to educate and become health and wellness advocates for their members and, in their own words, “help the valley get healthier with less effort.” A mission they are accomplishing with three locations - Eastern and I-215, West Tropicana

DESERT BEAUTY LAB OFFERS A LUXURIOUS RETREAT FOR LOCALS TO ORGANICALLY COEXIST WITH WELLNESS ARTICLE BY ANDRES MOLINA PHOTOGRAPHY BY KBS PHOTOGRAPHY
“My vision for Desert Beauty Lab embodies a vigorous culture of wellness that continually starts with self-care, love, and family. This represents my journey, my dream, and now my salon,” says Susan Salas, the Founder of Desert Beauty Lab, the new spa where “wellness is a necessity.” Susan worked in a five-star resort for 16 years, where she dreamt of one day giving local clients the luxury experience given to tourists. Salas’ dream came true in December 2021 when she opened her spa to “provide innovative and health-conscious services and integrate peace within the mind, body, and spirit.” Desert Beauty Lab is a holistic luxury wellness spa where beauty can organically coexist with wellness. The company is deeply committed to wellness for both the body and the planet. It offers services that cultivate only safe, natural, and high-quality products without ever using harsh or abrasive chemicals. The Desert Beauty Lab team centers their commitment to sustainability in every facet of their work. They reduce paper waste, recycle nail polish bottles, and are free of plastic waste. They also keep the salon clean by using eco-friendly cleaning supplies that are “more beneficial to the earth.” “I wanted to build a wellness spa where our local community could retreat in a salon that prioritized tranquility and eminence.” Our team has built a culture that leads with the important notion of how we live daily: do what you love and always do it in the path of lifelong wellness.” Once guests step into Desert Beauty Lab, they understand why it’s revered as a place to embark on a journey of transformative services focusing on the mind and body. The experiential atmosphere is unlike many salons in the Las Vegas Valley. Guests are welcomed into the salon and treated like family instead of being greeted by CONTINUED >

the toxic fumes of acrylic nails. Susan and her team are meticulous in every detail of their guests’ experience. Desert Beauty Lab offers zero-degree gravity pedicure chairs, which elevates the leg above the position of the heart, eliminating the gravitational weight on the spine. They offer audio-guided meditation headsets where guests are levitated into another plane of relaxation as the Desert Beauty Lab teams take care of their hands and feet via their various pedicure and manicure options. One popular option is the addition of the Theragun for deep muscle therapy to manicures and pedicures. At the end of their relaxing session, guests are welcome to take their nail files, buffers, and pumice stones for future use at home. Susan has made it her mission for prices to always remain affordable even though they utilize top-of-the-line and exclusive products. And because she values the local community, the company participates in many philanthropic initiatives. “Giving back is at the heart of everything we do, and it will always be integral in who we are,” explained Susan. “We also have been hosting events that focus on empowerment, health, and regimen.”

Get Away to the Mile High City Where the Mountains and Metropolitan Lifestyle Vibrantly Coincide
Visit Denver When you think about Denver, what immediately may come to mind is the gateway to the stunning landscape of mountain peaks with an abundance of recreational activities. But what you might not realize is just how unbelievable the urban experience is in this extraordinary city set at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Our team of local lifestyle fanatics at City Lifestyle are thrilled to collaborate with Visit Denver to present a customized visitor’s guide and exclusive GIVEAWAY* to this mile-high destination. With recent recognition and rankings, such as landing its spot as a top 10 city in the world to visit (Lonely Planet), leading the nation in attendance at performing arts events and exhibitions (National Endowment for the Arts), a repeat nominee for its foodie and craft beverage scene, and home to THE most attended concert venue of any size anywhere in the world (Billboard), Denver is bursting with profound cultural and lifestyle experiences, and we’re here to round up our recommendations for you. One neighborhood that sets Denver apart is Cherry Creek North, otherwise known as the Mile High City’s ultimate luxury shopping and dining destination with the highest concentration of small businesses. Get your street chic and fun-filled soles ready for 16 walking-friendly blocks of shopping, pampering, entertaining and feasting.
