LIFESTYLE LETTER
Hello South Vegas!!!
April 2022 PUBLISHER
Chad Jeffry | Chad.Jeffry@citylifestyle.com EDITOR
Paige Candee | paige.candee@citylifestyle.com
When my family and I moved to Las Vegas four years ago from Oregon, we never expected to stay more than a short while - shout-out to Stations Casinos for highlighting this with their current marketing campaign. My wife’s career had us bouncing from state to state, in a good way, and we thought this would be another short stop until we moved on to the next city. When we landed here in south Vegas, our daughter was born, and then we would be blessed with our son shortly after. During this time, we’ve found a home. We’ve found friends. And best of all, we’ve found a community filled with incredible people doing equally incredible things. I’m proud to call Las Vegas home and see my children growing up here and enjoying the lifestyle our community offers. So, when the opportunity came up to highlight our community and share information with our neighbors for the best places to go, best community partners, and best businesses, I took the leap of faith to launch this new publication. I continue to be reinforced with this message in meeting after meeting. We have business owners and local neighbors pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into making this a great place to live, much of which mainly goes unrecognized. My goal is to bring you these great stories and share the good that’s happening here right in our own backyard. Home means Nevada. That has never rang more true to my family than today. I’m proud to welcome you all to South Vegas City Lifestyle. Cheers,

Camp to Belong: Volunteers Needed
Ace Law Group’s Patrick Kang Wins Award
St. Jude’s Ranch for Children’s Sibling Preservation Program sends children to Camp to Belong every summer. This is a special camp as the attendees are siblings separated in foster care. They live in different homes throughout the year, but for this one week they get to eat, sleep, and play together to build on their sibling bond. The charity is looking for donations and volunteers for camp to happen this year. Those interested can contact Knelson@ stjudesranch.org.
Ace Law Group Managing Partner and Attorney Patrick Kang was awarded the 2022 Member of the Year Award from the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce. THE LAB, RAISING THE BAR IN LUXURY SKIN CARE
FRANK MOLNAR AND
GRANT PUCKETT
for a Local Skin Aficionado
“Don’t wish for good skin; work for it.” That is Alexandra Sherman’s mantra, and many in Las Vegas are following her lead. Alexandra is the founder of The Lab SSP, a high-tech custom skincare studio dedicated to performing exceptional skincare, scalp micropigmentation, and permanent makeup. While she has seen clientele flood in during the pandemic, taking care of our skin will never get old. Alexandra founded The Lab SSP in 2021 to give Las Vegas a skincare studio that could compete with the best spas in the world. During the pandemic, she used the shutdown to advance her training, build her clientele, and refine various aspects of her business. The Lab’s beautifying facial treatments arrived at the right time as people have had more time to focus on themselves over the last two years. As Alexandra reflected, “I think throughout COVID, one of the increased desires for skincare was because people were seeing themselves up close and personal on Zoom calls.” CONTINUED >

But it wasn’t just during the pandemic that Alexandra was honing her skills. Her journey started in Miami, Florida, where she was born - to Cuban American parents - and raised. She attended Florida State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Criminal Justice Administration. After a stint as a private investigator, the wanderlust Floridian took time off to travel the world, most notably spending time in Asia. Even during her exploring, she knew her ultimate goal was to help people feel good and be the best they could be. Soon she discovered a way to combine her passions for aesthetics, art, business, and science. Alexandra finished esthetician school and aspired to learn even more so she could truly be the best. She moved to Las Vegas to study esthetics, permanent makeup, and scalp micro-pigmentation and sought out the most knowledgeable teachers in facial sculpting massage while researching the best product lines. With her journey to seek knowledge complete, she was ready to open her studio. Now, at The Lab, Alexandra and her team mix and match more than 120 of the best products in the world to treat their clients. The Advanced Custom Facial is a local favorite because it gives The Lab team free range to use whatever products they need and utilize whatever equipment they need within a 90-to-120-minute time frame. No two facials are the same at The Lab; as Alexandra notes, “We offer something different and set a higher bar for each facial treatment.” The Lab is best known for using Biologique Recherche, one of the leading luxury skincare lines in the world. According to Alexandra, Biologique’s cult-like following includes elite celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. As of our conversation with The Lab, Alexandra touts being the first to bring Biologique Recherche to Las Vegas and the only place to find it off The Strip. Alexandra invites locals to start their own journey towards a glowing complexion at The Lab and enjoy a renewed sense of self and beauty through luxury skincare.

A VISION OF SUCCESS LANDSCAPE AND DESIGN BUSINESS CONTINUES TO GROW ALONG WITH LAS VEGAS VALLEY “Tell us what your dreams are, and we will try our best to make it happen for you.” For Steve Salomon, owner and president of Centerpoint Landscaping, that motto is a promise that comes with every contract he signs with his clients. The Las Vegas-based company launched in 2016 and has grown to become one of the top landscaping businesses in Southern Nevada in just over five years. It was voted

“Best of Las Vegas” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 2021 for outdoor kitchens and landscaping. “In the beginning, it was just me at one point and my pick-up truck. Then it was two other guys and me, and we just kept growing,” said Salomon. “In the first few years, we tripled our business. It’s been a steady growth and incline, and we just keep trying to make things happen.”

One of the biggest landscaping trends to hit the industry during the pandemic was the increased demand for outdoor space, and many companies nationwide benefitted from this, including Centerpoint Landscaping. “People were stuck at home and looking at yards. Instead of their vacation budget, they are putting more time and effort into their outdoor living areas, and that’s what we do,” said Salomon. His team offers all kinds of custom landscaping services, from upscale outdoor kitchens to unique water features. But what Salomon is really proud of is giving his customers the service and attention that other companies may not be able to give.
“We have a 3D visualizer landscaping design program that has become a gamechanger,” said Salomon. “This technology allows us to give clients a realistic view of how the work can transform their homes. We utilize the program to the fullest and spend a lot of time on the planning process, so our clients get to experience their vision coming to life even before we begin construction.” For Salomon, he said it’s also important to give customers peace of mind throughout this entire process. And his team’s comprehensive knowledge of the Homeowners Associations (HOA) in Southern Nevada is a big part of their success. CONTINUED >

“OUR CLIENTS GE T TO E XPERIENCE THEIR VISION COMING TO LIFE EVEN BEFORE WE BEGIN CONSTRUCTION.”
“Most people in Vegas have HOA’s, and we know most in town because we have been dealing with them for a while, so we know what their expectations are,” said Salomon. “Having that knowledge from the frontend helps us create the right design from the get-go. A lot of homeowners do get nervous, and they don’t want to tackle the HOAs on their own, and our team is there for them. It’s all included as part of our service. It’s not something you pay extra for.” Despite their growth and success, Salomon said Centerpoint Landscaping was not immune to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many other small business owners, Salomon had to deal with issues like labor shortages. He said the company managed by paying employees above industry standard and doing everything they could to retain the best workers. “We are putting the right people in key positions to help the company grow,” said Salomon. “I couldn’t be here without the employees. The business wouldn’t be here without the team and the staff all working together to take care of our customers.”

the hot spot for haute couture with heart
HauteChix offers Las Vegas women affordable, trendy, high-quality fashion ARTICLE BY ANDRE S MOLINA PHOTOG R APHY BY MARCY JOH NSON

“HauteChix came about in a very special way as it brought my mom and I together as business partners and allowed us to navigate through the ups and downs of owning a small business,” said Selena Tagoai of her and her mother, Nan Esposito, which founded HauteChix in 2008. Selena always loved fashion, and her dream had always been to open her own boutique. Nan joined her daughter to help achieve her goal and motivate her along the way. Nan immigrated from South Korea as a teenager. She learned English, worked full-time in a hotel, and graduated from school within a couple of years. Now an emblem of perseverance for her daughter, Nan inspires Selena to work harder every day and never give up on her dream. The mother-daughter duo started the chic boutique even though neither one of them had experience in the fashion industry. However, that did not stop them from running a successful business together for over a decade. It wasn’t until 2020 that Selena and Nan would be joined by another partner, Angelica Wick. Angelica is a proud half-Native American woman who shared the dream of owning her own boutique. Once a loyal HauteChix customer, she joined the team as a partner months before the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, the three minority women are making their dreams a reality and inspiring the next generation, starting with their kids. “For them to see their moms, two minority women, both out here grinding… day in and day out, is not only so special to us, but also is a way for them to admire and respect female entrepreneurs of any color,” Selena said. The key to their success is staying flexible and adapting to change. The pandemic forced the HauteChix team to think outside the box. They leveraged social media and promoted “last-chance sales” via Instagram stories to keep the brand relevant and keep their followers and customers engaged. “We definitely have had our slumps, but I think where we thrive and what helps keep us going is teamwork and having one another,” Selena continued. “Our team is amazing. We have a group chat that we named The HauteClub, and if one of us is down or not feeling creative or motivated, at least one person in that chat is going to get us back up!” CONTINUED >

HauteChix’s customers range from teens to women in their 80s. Selena beamed, “We pride ourselves on having a little something for everyone, whether it be clothes, handbags, accessories, or even just coming in for alterations.” Last year, they wowed guests by hosting a private mansion shopping party called The Ultimate Girls Night. In October of the same year, they held their first “hautemarket,” an outdoor night market with local, small business vendors. The success of the first “hautemarket” inspired a second event for the spring of 2022. The women of HauteChix exist to inspire, and being involved in their community is an integral part of their success. “Community is very important to us. Especially the community that our shop is in. Southern Highlands community has helped us stay in business all of these years,” said Selena.
