There are a multitude of diverse spots around town to discover, whether it is a new restaurant, like Twenty Pho Hour or The Neighbors, with lots of color and whimsy to enjoy with “neighbors” and family, a cycling trail to take in nature and the surrounding scenery or a niche boutique hotel for a relaxing staycation—there is something for everyone. And we make sure all your travel means are “tuned up” with tips from a local expert. For our April issue, we wanted to share with you how some of our neighbors are getting out to explore both locally and beyond. But wait. There is more! Our inhouse travel expert, Kimberly Hubert, designs for us the perfect road trip to the Florida Keys! How lucky we are to be center of our state, only hours away from so many inspiring destinations! The idea of a well-planned road trip, is in full swing for so many of you. While it can be freeing and exciting, one of the biggest challenges we constantly see, is that families get excited for road trip vacations and completely forget to inspect their cars. While your car may be able to handle a small trip back and forth to work, hitting the road adds a lot of extra stress on vehicle components and an unexpected breakdown on the road is an important denominator in possibly ruining your much structured vacation budget.

Checking Tires Tread is Key

Below, we share three tips from the Car Care Council on how to minimize such possible headaches. 1. Check the tires - including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear can indicate a need for a possible wheel alignment or suspension issues. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. An acceptable tire tread depth is 6/32 or deeper. Once they measure at 4/32, it is time to start thinking replacement! 2. Check lighting to identify any problems with exterior and interior lighting as the chance of an accident increases if you can’t see or be seen! With some modern vehicles, keep in mind that replacing the bulb can be quite the task, and require our professional care. With that said, we highly recommend you leave it to us, the experts, as electrical malfunction can lead to bigger issues later. Come see us at C & G Auto Center for a FREE light scan - anytime. 3. Check wipers and all f luids. Wiper blades should be replaced every six to twelve months for optimal performance in the rain. This is especially important in Florida, as a surprise "April shower" is a highly common occurrence! Make sure the windshield wipers are working properly and keep the reservoir filled with solvent. Have us check your other fluids including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission, as well as your antifreeze/coolant. “A pre-trip vehicle check provides peace of mind,” said Nathan Perrine, executive director, of the Car Care Council. “Taking proper precautions provides an opportunity to have any repairs performed by one’s own trusted technician before hitting the road, reducing the chance of costly car trouble away from home.” Bottomline, bring your car to your trusted auto repair center for a pre-trip inspection! Not only is it the most affordable travel option, it is arguably the most fun way to get a sense of what a place is really like. Plus, stopping along the way to your final destination can help draw out the adventure! And who wants to feel like they’re just going from Point A to Point B? The Florida Keys takes easy planning with an offer of some of the best combinations of fun. You can enjoy outdoor activities with world class beaches, fishing and diving, or take a break

from the sun, with museums, unique art and amazing food. I suggest driving south, taking the historic U.S. 27 route through the center of Florida toward Miami, and onward to the Florida Keys, as it allows for finding some unique and picturesque stops along the way. As a family, we have braved the task a few times, and all agree on a few favorites I am happy to share. Are you ready to explore? Haines City WINGS - Cameras ready for this photo op! The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency has created eight murals for a fantastic, but quick stop on this part of the Florida Mural Trail. Inspired by Colette Miller's 2012 Los Angeles street decor. Spook Hill & Murals, Lake Wales - About an hour outside Orlando, enjoy a seemingly gravity defying experience at this haunted hill. Then go tour the 21 murals found in this city, like the one with a 1958 Thunderbird crashing through the wall on busy Lamson Street.

Lake Placid Murals - the beautiful murals are placed throughout the town and are part of the Florida Mural Trail. Most are easily seen with a quick drive-by, without need to even leave the car. Coral Castle, Homestead FL - 1100 tons of coral, secretly hand-carved by one man? Yes, this is a must see! Everglades National Park, Homestead FL - Iconic to Florida, you can drive through part of this 1.5 Million acre park, but to see the wildlife you will have to get out of the car and walk. Bug repellent highly recommended! Miami’s South Beach - Drive through this historic Art Deco area to enjoy the iconic architecture and, of course, people watch - it’s South Beach after all. If you have a little more time to spare on your journey south, stop and see the 120,000 objects that have shaped our modern world at The Wolfsonian at FIU. 7 Mile Bridge - I mean, how else will you get there? One of the most fascinating drives ever!

Nobel Prize-winning Author Ernest Hemingway Key West is now home of the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum, where he and his over 50 cats once lived and frequented local bar Sloppy Joe’s. Sesame Cold Noodles

QUICK COLD NOODLES (NY STYLE) Ingredients for Peanut Sauce: • 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter • 2 tbsp. soy sauce • 2 tsp. white sugar • 1 tsp. minced garlic • 1/2 cup water • 1/8 cup rice vinegar • 1/2 tsp. sesame oil • 1/16 cup peanut oil • bit of shaved fresh ginger (to taste) • 2 green scallion onions (diced) Other Ingredients: • 3/8 cup salted peanuts, chopped • 1/2 lb. spaghetti noodles • 1/8 cup sesame seeds

Instructions: Step 1: Combine all sauce ingredients. Step 2: Cook pasta. Drain pasta and add to sauce while tossing. Refrigerate to thicken for approximately 4 hours. Step 3: When serving, top with remaining crushed peanuts and sesame seeds. PRO TIP: You may add a bit of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
