Fresh Blooms + Sprouts in #SoFu SPRING IS HERE, AND IT’S TIME TO GARDEN! I confess that I’m a terrible gardener. I have a black thumb. But that doesn’t keep me from trying each spring! Let’s get out there. If you have a lot of time to take on a new project, you could try starting a vegetable garden, a rose garden or an herb garden in your yard. If you just have one or two types of veggies you want to grow, maybe you try container gardening on your patio

There are all different ways to get into gardening no matter your skill level. Right? Won’t you join me, South Fulton? Another way to get into gardening is to contribute to local community gardens or donate to organizations that are planting more trees in #SoFu and throughout Atlanta. Flip through this month’s issue to find even more ways you can contribute to the environment this April. This month we have a spotlight on solar panels and renewable energy. There’s a gift guide to help you go green in a bunch of small ways. And of course, there are spotlights on some fabulous people! It’s the small things that add more life! The City of South Fulton offers its residents something that we’re all learning, once again, to appreciate—quality of life. The big things—malls, franchises, big box chain stores—are not necessarily the things that make communities more livable. Little things often do that. With limitations on globetrotting, the essence of travel and experiencing new things is not only found in far off places. Exploring South Fulton and supporting local businesses can be fun and plays a key role in sustaining the community and showcasing it as a viable destination. Small business, local merchants, family-owned restaurants. Neighbors whose names you actually know. These things all help to make communities more livable.

P OW E R I NG TH E F UTU R E GREYSTONE POWER IS NO STRANGER TO USING INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR THE PEOPLE IT SERVES. From renewable, zeroemission energy to electric vehicles (EVs), the not-for-profit electric cooperative is already powering the future. Interest is higher than ever for environmentally friendly, renewable energy. Members of GreyStone Power who want to support solar power without installing and maintaining a rooftop system can participate through the Cooperative Solar Program. Participants subscribe to blocks of solar energy from a large solar facility that the cooperative built, manages, and maintains at its Paulding County headquarters.

Overcoming Fear to Achieve FInancial Independence ARTICLE ERIC WIMBUSH, CFA
SERAPHIM WEALTH ADVISORS, INC. OFTEN TALKS ABOUT A MAJOR OBSTACLE TO FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE. There are numerous things that impact the financial stability of a household, but fear is the main culprit, thus an open and honest dialogue about fear is essential. Fear is defined by Merriam Webster as “an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger.” While we all experience fear in certain circumstances, when properly managed, fear can be a catalyst for greatness or a call to action. In planning for one’s future, this emotion impedes the path to success. The main fear is losing money or making a bad investment, but there are other subjective fears as well. People also fear others’ opinions, comparisons to friends and coworkers, the image a lack of financial wealth may imply, and sometimes acknowledging their own shortcomings. Good financial planning requires discipline and sometimes sacrifice which can play on one’s fears. To overcome fear, the first step is acknowledgment. There is no movement forward until you become intimate with your own situation. The second step is basic planning, which starts with the dreaded B word (BUDGETING). Understanding the inflows and outflows of your household gives you the flexibility to change or impose financial discipline. Next, individuals must determine whether they have the resources, time, or knowledge to properly manage finances or determine whether to hire a professional. Lastly, setting proper, attainable financial goals allows for progress toward the desired outcome (financial stability). Without this critical goal-setting step, individuals quickly set themselves up for frustration and ultimately failure. While it seems intuitive, this process is complicated when fear is involved. Our firm stands ready to assist individuals who have a serious desire to improve their financial competency. PRESENTED BY THE TWENTY PEARLS FOUNDATION
ON NOVEMBER 14, 2020, AT 7:08 PM, THE TWENTY PEARLS FOUNDATION, INC. HOSTED THEIR 2ND ANNUAL WINE TASTING EVENT, UNCORK AND UNWINE: A VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE. The foundation members have been busy this year raising funds necessary through innovative means to support their many community programs. This event was no exception to their creative pioneering to virtually engage with the broader community and offer an entertaining yet philanthropic experience. The foundation held their first unCork and unWine event in 2019. It was very successful in raising money for scholarships and the numerous local community programs they facilitate. This year alone, the foundation awarded over $27,000 in scholarships to high school seniors within East Point, College Park, and South Fulton. With the challenges of the global pandemic and social distancing, the foundation members faced the extraordinary challenge of meeting their fundraising goals in a virtual environment. Fortunately, the foundation was able to pivot the wine tasting experience into an online event, significantly broadening their potential audience. The evening was filled with fun, laughter and a great time for all. The program was held virtually via Zoom, allowing participants to enjoy a curated, live experience from the comfort of their homes. The festivities featured an outstanding performance on the violin by Ken Ford, King of the Strings. Additionally, wine expert Diana Notizik walked participants through a guided tasting of wines from boutique California wineries. Those local to the greater Atlanta area also had the option of purchasing a bountiful charcuterie board from Boards and Platters that was customized especially for this tasting. The Twenty Pearls Foundation, Inc. was established in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) organization by the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Epsilon Omega Chapter, for fundraising, community involvement and scholastic achievement. AT L A N TA N AT I V E M Y L E S R O W E WILL MAKE HIS DEBUT AS FORCE I N DY ’ S I N AU G U R A L D R I V E R FORCE INDY IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE ITS MUCH ANTICIPATED FIRST DRIVER FOR THE RACE TEAM IN 2021. Atlanta native Myles Rowe will make his debut as Force Indy’s inaugural driver in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, April 15-18. South Fulton Lifestyle was first to sit down with the driver after the announcement. HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THIS SPORT? Since age 4, Myles Rowe has been fascinated with all things racing. He’s a winner in the 2018 Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series. In 2016, he was awarded two “Search for the Champion” grand prize championships from the Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ iconic Champion® brand. At age 12, he won the ProCup Karting Championship during his first full season of racing. He’s competed in the TAG Junior category in the Superkarts USA, World Karting Association, and the United States Pro Kart Series. When he’s not racing, Rowe is a junior at Pace University, studying film and screen studies. “I started at Andretti Indoor Karting in Marietta. I progressed really quickly. That was when I was realized I was really good.” WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUNG PEOPLE? Myles said that it’s important to find your passion and get to work. “No one’s going to do it for you. Independent action will get you what you want but you might need some help.” Myles said that hours of dedication and research proved that he did indeed have this passion. “We vetted many deserving young men and women and chose Myles based on his ability and performance, inside and outside of the cockpit,” said Force Indy Team Principal Rod Reid. “He understands Force Indy’s mission of building a diverse team of talented individuals. He’s a great fit for the team.” FORCE INDY SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS:
