ATLANTA AUDUBON AWARDED GRANT The National Audubon Society recently awarded Atlanta Audubon with an Audubon in Action grant for on-the-ground conservation and equity, diversity and inclusiveness work in Atlanta. Atlanta Audubon will partner with the Greening Youth Foundation to create an annual internship opportunity for young adults. Interns will work with Atlanta Audubon’s Wildlife Sanctuary Program to learn about native plants and birds, present outreach programs, and help certify additional landscapes as Wildlife Sanctuaries. Greening Youth Foundation’s mission is to work with diverse, underserved and underrepresented children, youth and adults in an effort to develop and nurture enthusiastic and responsible environmental stewards. The goal of the Wildlife Sanctuary Program is to create a swath of certified wildlife habitats across metro Atlanta to create a more bird-friendly community. “The Greening Youth Foundation looks forward to connecting one of our interns to this exciting project with our partner, Atlanta Audubon Society,” says Angelou Ezeilo, CEO and founder of the organization. “I have no doubt that providing this type of opportunity to young adults creates a conservation ethic that will stay with them for life.” EDITOR’S NOTE: In the August issue, we recommended the Pig and the Pint as a pet-friendly spot which has closed, unfortunately. Does Your Doctor Fit Your Style?

hat may at first seem like an odd question becomes an extremely relevant question with further reflection. Whether or not you and your physician mesh may at times be a decisive factor in whether or not you are receiving the best healthcare possible and could very well impact the results of your treatment and outcome. When you are choosing a doctor, you should most certainly consider his or her training, background and board certification status. You may also want to look at online reviews of your doctor, but make sure you take the good and the bad evaluations with a grain of salt and look at the evaluations as a whole. Studies show that patients with bad reviews are more likely to respond to anonymous evaluations than those with good experiences. Likewise, it is highly unlikely that a doctor will legitimately have 5 stars in all categories on every review. Now that you have done your basic homework and researched your new doctor to be, how do you know if he or she “fits your style?” In my experience there are several components of a good physician patient relationship and several questions you should ask yourself after meeting your doctor. The most important aspect of a physician patient relationship is respect. Does your doctor and his staff treat you with respect? Does your doctor listen to you and address your concerns? Studies show that patients perceive a doctor as being more attentive when they sit down and make eye contact with them rather than stand over them or stare at a computer screen. Some people find it impressive to have a doctor who is direct and to the point and simply tells the patient what they need for treatment and leaves out what other patients feel is compassion, or a personalized touch. WHAT'S IN A NAME? Fabulina was an old nickname that a friend used to call me. Derived from the word “fabulous,” ..."Fabu" and then "lina" just sounds feminine. She put it together and made Fabulina. So when I started my company, I liked how it sounded. I felt it described the jewelry. It was fun, cute and catchy to say. People would always say, “How fabulous!” and I would say, "Hence, the name." — Charline Shelby The name P. Sherrod was inspired by a friend and supporter of my vision for the brand. Back in 2009, I was visiting a college friend who was living in South America. It was during that visit that I was introduced by my friend to a wonderful family who manufactured leather goods. I’m not sure the business would have gotten off the ground had it not been for my friend’s local presence and support.
