Darnell, included a performance by local singing duo, Rosemary and John Robertson; the Pledge of Allegiance, recited by students from C. H. Gullatt Elementary School in Union City, remarks by Fulton County Commission Chairman John H. Eaves, Library Executive Director, Gabriel Morley, Library Board of Trustees Vice Chairman, Phyllis D. Bailey and Library Foundation Member A. Michelle Smith. The event was capped off by a formal ribbon cutting. Guests enjoyed technology demonstrations, story times, face painting and more throughout the day, as well as a visit from beloved Library mascot Rocky the Reading Raccoon. METALLIC SHIMMER AND RETRO GLAM DECORATING DEN INTERIORS UPDATES A SOUTH FULTON HOME

hen a busy South Fulton professional wanted to update his home to reflect his lifestyle, he called Kimberly Ormsby of Decorating Den Interiors of Atlanta, who is based in the area. After meeting with the client and touring his traditional home, Ormsby learned he wanted to add a wow factor, while still honoring the home’s traditional vibe. The home was painted in a two tone grey and white throughout, including painting the kitchen cabinets from the original oak to a soothing grey that ties everything together. The tray ceilings in the 22-foot foyer and the dining room were painted in a dramatic silver metallic faux finish that shimmers in the evenings. Ormsby and her team incorporated mixed metals and lots of textures to give the space new life. The addition of dramatic light fixtures in the foyer, formal living room, dining room and kitchen were used to create the jewelry for the home. Dining room – This dramatic chandelier and sconces highlighted by micro metal chains are the crown pieces in the dining room, which is accented by a tray painted in silver metallic paint in a faux finish. Added dimmers on the fixtures create the perfect ambiance for dining, whether for two or a crowd! Kitchen – The centerpiece of the kitchen’s multi-tiered ceiling is this retro-styled light fixture with an explosion of metal spokes and exposed bulbs. Matching scones add the flair and drama the home owner was looking for. The newly repainted cabinetry with black appliances give that added pop! CONTINUED >

had a revelation last week while working with Erikka and Tiffany of South Fulton Lifestyle magazine. As we got a head start on the holidays, styling a fetching fall/Thanksgiving table and a chic holiday/New Year’s Eve buffet for the magazine, I realized that every day is a special occasion. At steve mckenzie’s furniture store in Atlanta, we believe in setting a pretty table, even if it’s just for one, using cloth napkins (eco-friendly and softer on your skin), and setting the table for family meals (no phones at the table) and teaching children how to properly set and clear a table. Excels on Stage and Online M

artine Bartley is no ordinary 17-year-old. Since the age of 8, this star has charmed audiences with her graceful classical ballet performances each year. A student at the Ballethnic Academy of Dance in East Point, Martine and her troupe present the “Urban Nutcracker" at the Riverside EpiCenter in Austell this month. In addition to her exceptional prowess as a dancer, Martine is a motivated student dedicated to balancing her ballet training with an excellent high school education. As a senior at Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA), an online public school that educates students via an engaging online curriculum, hands-on materials and Internetbased classrooms led by state-certified teachers, Martine demonstrates her ability and drive to achieve her goals both in and out of the classroom. “Martine is so driven and responsible,” said Chantal Bartley, Martine’s mother. “I knew she would do well at online school, and she has not proved me wrong. She is actually more engaged in her studies now. Sitting in the traditional classroom setting was boring for her, because she couldn’t move through the lessons at her own

pace. At GCA, she has more control, which is perfect for a girl who is so self-motivated.” Last year as a junior at Georgia Cyber Academy, Martine achieved straight As. This year, as a senior, Martine is focused on earning her high school diploma while apprenticing with Ballethnic and auditioning for professional companies and college ballet programs. Having attended summer dance intensives locally since age 9, Martine was awarded merit scholarships to the Dance Theatre of Harlem and The Orlando Ballet. She is most proud of her participation in the Governor’s Honors Program in Dance and her apprenticeship with the Ballethnic Dance Company. “Martine’s goal is to dance professionally, but she also knows that she needs to succeed academically in order to grow into a successful adult,” Chantal said. “We are so glad she took the initiative to find Georgia Cyber Academy and pursue her education alongside her professional ballet aspirations.” The perfect kickoff to the holiday season, Ballethnic presents the “Urban Nutcracker” from November 16-19.
