Our homes are an extension of who we are, from our preferred esthetic, which expresses our individual tastes, to photographs and other pieces of our familial history that demonstrate our life’s journey and that of our loved ones as we have evolved into who we are today. The photos and artwork you display in your home are visual evidence of what inspires you and the people and memories you value most. Placement is Key Consider the purpose and the atmosphere you are seeking to create when deciding where to hang paintings and photographs. For instance, candid snapshots of memorable family vacations tend to suit informal areas like the family or entertainment room, while portraits and other fine art paintings frequently lend the perfect touch to complete a dining room. Accent Lighting Options Artwork should be lit so that the piece becomes a focal point of the room. There are three primary lighting options to choose from, energy-efficient LED lights, halogen lighting and the traditional favorite, incandescent lights. The right choice for you will depend on the condition of your artwork and whether you wish to create a mood that is warm and inviting or cool and sleek. The Correct Height for Hanging There is no one correct height for hanging photographs or art. Gallery walls featuring a mix of shapes and sizes instantly create a central focal point as the observer is engaged with a cohesive combination of objects and imagery. As you develop your distinctive home décor, don’t shy away from experimenting with a variety of configurations. How to Create a Showstopping Staircase Gallery Wall We’ve all seen gorgeous displays of art, family photos and other treasured keepsakes hung in what appears to be perfect precision so that the collection follows the path of an entryway staircase. These presentations make a striking statement that done properly can instantly convey a sense of your personal tastes and values that will leave a lasting impression on any visitor to your home. Precise measurement and planning are instrumental in creating a staircase gallery wall: • First, measure and record the height, width and pitch of the wall. Doing so will ensure your final layout is balanced and that your artwork hangs at a level that descends as the staircase wall slopes downward. • Once you have documented the wall measurements, sketch a layout showing where each item you intend to incorporate into the display will go. • Create a mock layout on the floor using painters’ tape to outline each object to scale. • Place the frames you plan to use in their designated outline spaces, making sure you leave six to 10 inches of blank space along the bottom. This will ensure you protect the items displayed from being disturbed by foot traffic. • Photograph your floor layout for reference as you hang. • Hang each object using a hammer, picture nails and the correct hanging hardware for each object’s weight. • Once each item is positioned just as you want it, apply small balls of museum putty to make sure the bottom of each piece is properly secured. St. Patrick’s Day! This day honors the Irish patron Saint with parades, parties and lots of food and drink. Traditional Irish foods are hearty. The meal is meant to keep your stomachs full, and energy levels high. Typically, celebrations in the United States include a feast of Corned Beef and Cabbage.
ENJOY THIS IRISH FEAST 16

Corned Beef and Cabbage is relatively easy to prepare and can feed a crowd. Traditionally, the entire meal is cooked up in a single pot. However, let’s try something a little different this year. Sous vide has quickly become a type of cooking method many are trying at home. All it takes is a precision cooker. So, get ready for one juicy and tender corned beef.
ingredients: • • • • • • • • •
2 to 4 lb. brisket, trimmed pickling spice, to coat 1 cup beef stock 8 small red potatoes, halved 1 bunch carrots, peeled 1 head cabbage, cut into squares 2 teaspoons kosher salt 1 teaspoon black pepper 2 tablespoons olive oil

1. Set precision cooker to 180° for 10 hours. Coat the fatty side of the corned beef with the pickling spice. Place in a sealable bag, or vacuum sealer with the beef stock. 2. With about an hour left of cook time on the brisket, heat oven to 415°. 3. Lay the potatoes, cabbage and carrots in a single layer on a sheet pan. 4. Drizzle with olive oil. Season with kosher salt and black pepper. 5. Roast until tender and slightly browned. This should take about an hour. 6. Place in bath. When finished, remove from bag and pat dry. Heat up a cast iron pan and sear the brisket on both sides. Remove and slice against the grain. 7. Plate everything onto a large platter and ENJOY! Leftover corned beef makes for great Rueben sandwiches.

Fiorella Sabato moved to the United States with her family, 21 years ago. She considered a career change and thought about studying speech pathology, but her plans changed when she was introduced to the world of professional organizing. She read many books and attended classes and courses in the field of professional organizing, and in 2006 she joined the team of professional organizers at Pea Organizing Services. Three short years later, Fiorella was approached by the founder of the business, who recognized her enthusiasm and passion for the business and encouraged her to take over the full-service professional organizing and consulting firm, as her personality was a wonderful fit for assisting residential and commercial clients in developing and implementing custom solutions for decluttering and reintroducing order to their lives. An Epiphany in South Africa Fiorella credits the stress of having to reevaluate her priorities and downsize what she could realistically ship halfway across the world from her native South Africa, as being a large contributing factor in her determination to help others face similar situations of downsizing, decluttering and finding the simplicity and calm in living in an organized environment. She explains that the difficulty she encountered when editing her own belongings caused her to “experience a 180-degree turn around” that made her realize the necessity of organization if you are to live your best life. After nearly 20 years as a professional organizer, Fiorella still derives immense satisfaction from her work. She frequently receives calls from people who share a feeling of being “completely stuck”— too overwhelmed to “know

where to begin.” As Fiorella notes, “The reason I still enjoy doing what I’m doing is the sense of relief I see my clients experience once their homes are organized.” The pressures of family and career today often leave people in a state of frustration, struggling to find sufficient time to complete all they need and want to accomplish. Fiorella observes that after clients allow her to develop coping and organizational strategies, tailored to fit their needs, they “regain family time and are able to enjoy life more fully” as they find their anxiety, depression and fatigue are lessoned once their surroundings are structured for efficiency. According to Fiorella, depression and clutter often go hand in hand, as people find it stressful to try to maintain their schedules in a chaotic atmosphere. Fiorella points out that being organized is also financially beneficial as it makes it easy to locate necessary items and helps you avoid duplication. Teaching Life Skills Fiorella has always aspired to teach, and she finds that her work as a professional organizer allows her to do just that. CRYSTAL COAST Most people raise an eyebrow or two when you mention The Crystal Coast. “Exactly where is that?”…they usually ask. I recently had an opportunity to spend a weekend exploring this beautiful, unspoiled, diverse region of North Carolina’s southern outer banks. The Crystal Coast includes six distinct communities….Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, Pine Knoll Shores, Emerald Isle, Morehead City and Cape Lookout, all bordering the Atlantic Ocean or the beautiful intercoastal waterway. What makes The Crystal Coast a hidden gem? Eighty five miles of sparkling shoreline; unspoiled pristine beaches, each with its own cultural vibe; charming small towns with art galleries and boutiques; year-round fishing; fresh from the docks seafood served at waterfront bistros; diving for sunken treasures; kayaking and paddle boarding; exploring wild Spanish mustangs, and the list goes on. My first stop while visiting the Crystal Coast was the renowned fishing town of Morehead City. After checking into the famed Bask Hotel with a lovely balcony suite facing the ocean, I decided to take a stroll to get a feel for the surrounding location. I was immediately charmed by the little grassy park in front of the hotel, complete with old fashioned swings facing the boats docked along the front of the hotel. As my husband and I walked for another block or so along the waterfront, we were amazed at the size of the fish being carried from one of the chartered fishing boats. We later discovered that Morehead City is home to the annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament, where fishermen from all over the world compete. Our next stop was dinner at Atlantic Beach, just a 10 minute drive from our Morehead City hotel.
We enjoyed cocktails and local beer from Idle Hour Biergarten as we sat outside by the fireplace and watched the sunset. Just across the street is the Bahia Beach House and Surf Bar, where we enjoyed fresh seafood in a quaint charming environment with small town friendly hospitality. Surprisingly, you won’t find many franchise restaurants along the Crystal Coast….most are eclectic family owned restaurants with fresh from the docks seafood. Next stop….Beaufort, named “America’s Favorite Town” by Travel+ Leisure magazine. Beaufort, (pronounced Bo-fert), is a lovely, delightful town with boutiques, art galleries, and antiques all along Front Street. We enjoyed afternoon cocktails while watching the yachts and smaller boats cruise by. Kayaking and paddle boarding are favorite pastimes while exploring Carrot Island and the marshes of Rachel Carson Reserve in Beaufort.
