Program.

The Urban Design Center in the City of Charlotte’s Planning, Design and Development department is leading the effort by implementing Placemaking Projects, such as the installation of the rocking chairs. WELLS FARGO CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT The Wells Fargo Championship Golf Tournament was the highlight of the spring season again this year. Held at Quail Hollow Country Club in South Charlotte, the tournament serves as the principal fundraiser for Champions for Education, a Charlottebased 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports local and regional charitable organizations. It was created when the tournament was founded in 2002 by Wells Fargo, Quail Hollow Club and the PGA Tour. To date, Champions for Education has donated more than $20 million to local charitable organizations in Charlotte and Wilmington, North Carolina.

ADVENTURE IS NOT JUST A NOUN. WATER ACTIVITIES The USNWC is home to the world’s largest man-made whitewater river and offers an opportunity to partake in world-class water activities including whitewater rafting, kayaking and flatwater kayaking.
YOGA In keeping with the USNWC’s stated mission of building stronger communities through the promotion of healthy and active lifestyles, yoga features heavily among the activities sponsored at the center with more than 300 practices held at USNWC’s South Ridge each year. This includes an offering of at least one Vinyasa Flow class per day May through September. A variety of onehour sessions are held, offering practices for yogis of all levels. The USNWC also hosts numerous specialty yoga practice sessions at select times throughout the year including Acro Yoga, Meditative Yoga, Power Yoga and Slackline Yoga. SUMMER CAMPS The USNWC hosts a variety of summer camps, all geared toward offering youths ages 8 to 18 the opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation centered around water activities including whitewater rafting or stand-up paddle boarding mixed with land activities such as rock climbing, zip lining and more. Summer camp attendees learn new skills and are challenged on the USNWC’s mountain biking trails and the long point obstacle course. Camp sessions are one week long and are offered throughout July and August.
RIVER JAM CONCERT SERIES River Jam at the USNWC is a unique outdoor music venue that welcomes performers from across all genres. Concert-goers have their choice of food and craft beers. Concerts are held on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays May through September from 7–10 p.m. and during select festivals. In keeping with the USNWC’s commitment to promoting family and community interaction, admission is free.

Aside from the cuisine, Burtons offers a full-service bar. Wine, spirits and beers fill the glasses of those needing to mellow out after a full day’s work or those looking for fun on Sunday afternoon. Twelve beer taps are always rotating, mostly serving locally brewed craft selections. “You can throw a rock and hit a brewery here,” Marc says, jokingly. “It’s almost like they’re competitors.” Jokes aside, he and the staff are grateful to have such a variety of beers coming into the bar. Burtons cross-promotes with the breweries in town, so everyone benefits. It’s one of the secrets to their success in finding fun while working to make their restaurant the best it can be.

Swirl to combine. Place the cap back on the bottle. Allow the oils to disperse in the alcohol for about 1 hour, then add distilled water, swirling again to combine.

*The grain alcohol is used as a preservative as well as a carrier for the oils, but you can also use a product like this instead of grain alcohol at a 1:4 ratio (1 drop essential oil to 4 drops Solubol) if you’d rather and then just fill the rest with water to fill the 2-ounce spray bottle.
While there can be concern about citrus oils on the skin when exposed to sunlight, lemongrass isn’t a photosensitive oil, and if lemon essential oil is steam-distilled rather than cold-pressed (Oui Fresh essential oils are cold-pressed) it can be used on the skin. So just make sure to note which one your lemon oil is and only spray on clothes if you don’t have a skin-safe lemon oil (which is an application method a lot of people prefer anyway if they are more sensitive to oils).
