Jokes aside, the October issue is dedicated to the delicious tastes–savory, sweet and everything in between–in our wonderful community. It has been such a joy working with wonderful restauranteurs, chefs and creative minds to craft this issue. Our team is especially excited to bring you a feature about O-Ku, a South End sushi bar that puts an innovative twist on traditional Asian dishes and offers a darn good cocktail list (page 18). Without giving too much away, the restaurant's avant-garde style is present in both of their flawlessly crafted menu items and their marvelous dining room. This month we also bring you two travel features. One is dedicated to a seaside town that is just too perfect too be disliked (page 14), while the other is about a variety of foodie destinations (page 24). TSA PRECHECK ENROLLMENT AT STAPLES On August 16, the Staples store in south Charlotte began enrolling individuals in TSA Precheck. The TSA Precheck allows passengers to get through airport security in five minutes or less because they don't have to remove their shoes, coat or belts and can leave their liquids and laptops in their bags. Enrollment costs $85 and is good for five years. The south Charlotte Staples is the only store in North Carolina to offer the TSA Precheck service and it is located on 10850 Providence Road.

HEARTY TOMATO BLACK BEAN CHILI

DIRECTIONS 1. Place sauté pan on stove and warm at medium heat. 2. When the pan is hot, add olive oil, chopped onions, salt, garlic powder and cumin; sauté for five minutes. 3. After five minutes add the cooked black beans, Santhoshi’s savory tomato chutney and water. 4. Close the pot and cook the contents on medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
