Atlanta Influencer Michelle Taylor Willis Makes Independent Film Debut Michelle Taylor Willis, an award-winning media executive, master strategist, speaker, radio and television host and author, has earned another accolade – actress. Willis will be featured in “Code Noir: Les Adventures du premier Comte de Monte Cristo,” courtesy of Atlanta’s Theatre du Reve, as Marie Cessette-Dumas, a slave and the mother of the main character. Loosely based on the novel, The Black Count by Tom Reiss, it centers on the history of the multicultural French general, Alexandre Dumas, the author of The Count of Monte Cristo.
Firefighters Honored for Quick Efforts to Save Woman Last year, Cheresa Williams-Johnson faced a situation she had never dreamed of. The incident caused her heart to stop, literally. Thanks to the quick action of three City of South Fulton firefighters, Williams-Johnson lived to tell the story. This Tuesday, she met them again, this time to say thanks. The department also presented Michele Gilyard, Dylan Karr and Mikel Hernandez Tito with the first-ever You Earned Shield Coin and Lifesaver keychain patches.

MORE THAN JUST THE SPRINGS: THINGS TO DO IN HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS ARTICLE BY PATRICK T. COOPER
Influence, power, discretion, and opulence sprinkled with notorious historical lineage contribute to the heat of Hot Springs, Arkansas, located 45 minutes from Little Rock in Garland County. My stay at Hotel Hot Springs made for an easy commute to breakfast starts at two favorite hotspots for morning vittles, The Pancake Shop and The Best Cafe and Bar.

HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS Hot Springs Mountain Tower Take your welcome to the city selfie here, 1,256 feet above sea level, with sweeping views to ignite your travel urge. Inhale the panoramic views of the Ouachita Mountains and Hot Springs National Park. Towering above the city’s world-renown bath houses, Hot Springs Mountain Tower provides a bird’s eye view of the city, 216 feet up. Descend one floor below the tower’s observation deck to learn about the region’s geographical history in the museum. Fordyce Bathhouse, Hot Springs National Park Service Originally designed by Little Rock architects Mann and Stern, The Fordyce (pronounced “four dice”) opened March 1, 1915. This now historic landmark and national park is approximately 28,000 square feet and the largest bathhouse on the Row. Exquisite construction and the finest material made this building extravagant and groundbreaking for its time. Today, the building still exudes royal finishes and the finest details that can’t be replicated. Now, the Hot Springs National Park visitors can transform into a cosmopolitan sense of style from the Edwardian era where hydrotherapy was believed to be paramount in the power of healing the human body. Superior Bathhouse Brewery This is the only thermal spring water brewery in the world! Where there is a will, there is a way, and what a way to reimagine a building that stayed vacant for over 30 years? A crazy idea became a reality by reformed tuba player and owner Rose Schweikhart, a former student at The Royal Northern College of Music—one can say this female-owned and -operated business can toot its own horn.
Hours of hard work aligned with a phenomenal business plan birthed the city’s first brewery. From modifications and manufacturing a persuasive plan to gather the support of the federal government, the Superior Bathhouse was reborn. 501 Prime A former vagrant-infested tile store, 501 Prime is now a beacon of hope and celebration of African American culture in what was once deemed the Black Broadway of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Visionary Restaurateur and Executive Chef Matt Fuller is resuscitating Malvern Road, which once served as the epicenter of Black excellence of African American culture. 501 Prime isn’t just one of the hottest spots in the landscape of Hot Springs, it’s also where Fuller is leading the charge in gentrification through the stomachs of travelers and local citizens. Serving an assortment of meats that are delicious enough to comatose or contribute to a full-bellied sleepiness at first bite, Fuller has plans of expanding his cuisine culture, experience, and movement. Strongly influenced by the teachings of his mother, Fuller empowers change in Hot Springs with empathy and a passion for restoration. In an homage to his mother, Fuller looks at 501 Prime and his businesses as his home where everyone is entitled to personable, inviting dining experiences. Quapaw Baths & Spa Established in 1922 and named after a Native American tribe, this facility’s pristine design elements inspire awe. Start your resort experience at Quapaw Baths & Spa. Enjoy relaxing mineral bath pools in a variety of water temperatures and experience what makes Hot Springs phenomenal. The warm waters soothe the skin and relax the mind. From the 1800s until World War II, hydrotherapy was believed to be an excellent tool in combatting rheumatism and arthritis. The therapeutic and healing properties of these warm waters garnered travelers from around the globe seeking cures for numerous diseases.

C U LT U R E W I R E L E S S CONNECTED TO THE CULTURE ARTICLE BY STEVIE PETERSON Left to Right: William "Bam" Sparks, Jerome Howard, Al Adjahoe, & Vernell Woods
In 1999, the hit movie, “The Wood,” starring Omar Epps, Taye Diggs, and Richard Jones as a group of friends who reminisce about their friendship, was all the rave. It was a great story of Black males who were true friends. Fast forward to 2022; the City of South Fulton has a true friendship story of its own, starring William Sparks, Vernell Woods, Al Adajahoe, and Jerome Howard, a vastly talented group of friends collectively known as Culture Wireless. As we enter the third year of the pandemic, the dependency on technology continues to grow, as many have chosen to continue to work from home and students have a dependency on wireless connections to complete their studies. Culture Wireless and their partnership with AT&T is ensuring the opportunity to connect is one that is affordable. On January 15, potential customers who receive benefits from SSI, SNAP, Medicaid, Section 8, and Pell Grants were able to sign up to enroll for wireless service for only $20 a month. Earlier this month, SoFu Lifestyle met with Culture Wireless’ President Vernell Woods and Marketing Director William Sparks, who shared their passion for the company and future plans.
THE BRIDGE TO CULTURE WIRELESS William puts the “Bam” in marketing. He is constantly working to garner partnerships with HBCUs to offer affordable wireless connections to matriculating students. Georgia is home to 10 fabulous sources of higher learning and there are thousands of students whose budgets would appreciate unlimited wireless service through Culture Wireless. He also promotes the opportunity to connect using Culture Wireless during volunteer efforts and networking events where the group takes time to give back. At each volunteer event, the group gives them the visibility and highlights Culture Wireless as a company that truly understands the culture of the customers they serve.

“It’s more important that people know we believe that culture and diversity come from the inside, so we are focused on more doing and less talking.”
PEOPLE ARE TALKING People are definitely talking, some through Moolah Mobile backed by none other than Atlanta’s own artist T. I. Moolah Mobile is a cellphone company owned by Vernell Woods, president of Culture Wireless. Moolah Mobile and Culture Wireless have an interesting partnership in that Moolah Mobile was the first to offer free wireless service to underserved communities and Culture Wireless ensures those communities have internet connection at an affordable rate. Moolah Mobile users know there is no longer a need to be a popular social media influencer to earn money. Woods created an app that deposits money into a “Moolah Wallet” each time an ad of one of 4,000 retailers is played, and who doesn’t want more moolah?
WHAT’S NEXT? The founders of Culture Wireless are currently working to lay their own fiber, which is part of their vision for “Smart Cities” that boast an increased populate where services are improved through the use of technology. The company will expand services to neighboring southern states, because they truly believe “everyone should have access to affordable quality internet.”
THE NEXT BIG THING Culture Wireless IS the next big thing! This IS the time to jump onboard. The four founders have positioned themselves and the company for an amazing future, one connection at a time. Why pay more when you can get connected affordably? Through the Grapevyne
A Conversation with Nicci Gilbert
ARTICLE BY STEVIE PETERSON
22
LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | A RTS + CULTURE
Nicci Gilbert was first introduced to many of us as the lead vocalist of Brownstone, the hugely popular female group with hits like “Grapevyne,” “If You Love Me,” and the soulful remake of the Eagles’ “I Can’t Tell You Why.” You may have also seen her acting in television shows like “Living Single,” and “Martin.” Now, you can find her in the City of South Fulton. Locating to the City of South Fulton is where Gilbert finds her oasis. She enjoys being in the company of her own community and putting in the work to build “home” first. Gilbert is multitalented with a plethora of ideas, and she firmly believes everything starts “pen to pad.” With this in mind, she has been in constant creation mode for the past decade.
2010 Gilbert wrote and directed the musical stage play, “Soul Kittens Cabaret,” which featured Faith Evans, Monifah, Syleena Johnson, and Fantasia. Gilbert shared the story with LionsGate but was turned away. However, years later an eerily similar “P’ Valley” began airing on Starz. *Gilbert is currently in litigation regarding the forty seven similarities between her play and the show’s characters and storyline.
2012 Gilbert becomes executive producer of TV One’s “R&B Divas,” a show she initially created in 2006. By the time Gilbert pitched the show to the network, she had already filmed and edited three episodes. Though many of TV One viewers enjoyed the semi-reality show, it soon began to stray from the vision Gilbert wanted for the show. After three seasons, she chose to walk away and launch other endeavors.
2016 Gilbert partnered with Queen Latifah to film “From the Bottom Up,” a television series on BET Her about celebrities trying to make a comeback after hitting rough times. The goal of the show is to highlight how someone can find the strength to forge ahead after things get tough. It motivates the viewer to continue to do the work required to get back on their feet. The first episode followed the lives of Sara Stokes and Keke Wyatt who through filming shared their traumatic experiences with mental and physical abuse. The sharing of Stokes’ story was one that seemed to take on a life of its own. It was something Gilbert couldn’t let go of, and she needed to dig deeper into what was at the core of Stokes’ pain. This was the beginning of “Broken Things,” a documentary which followed Stokes’ struggle to make a comeback and highlighted what may have caused the trauma and mental depression in her life.
Her story was one many Black families hold secret; it was a story that hit close to home because “the secret” was also one that caused Gilbert’s mother years of depression. Realizing how impactful Stokes’ story was, Gilbert realized this [sexual assault] was a charge she had to accept. The story Stokes shared through the documentary was so powerful that it provided a young viewer the strength she needed to come forward, resulting in her predator being arrested.
2018 Gilbert founded From the Bottom Up Foundation to address inequities in opportunities, education, and to raise awareness of critical issues women and girls of color face.
2022 Through W.I.R.F. (Women in Reality Film) media, Gilbert has a podcast,” She Speaks Live Atl,” where she has deep conversations around topics impacting our community, especially mental health. The impact COVID has had on all of us is one we need a village to help support. We have that in this podcast. The platform will also serve as a resource for Black women content creators to have a platform to share their vision. “We have not been able to tell our stories without interruption,” says Gilbert. This platform will allow content creators the freedom to do what they love: create. Gilbert has a challenge for the men- especially men of color: When you are in these rooms where content creators have access, invite a Black woman as your guest. Make sure Black women have the space we need to be our authentic selves while in the room. Ensure “we eat from each other’s plate” and are not solely used for the overt sexualization of our bodies or caricatures to fit a narrative. It’s one thing for a man to tell what he feels should be our stories, it is another thing when we have the luxury of telling our stories with our own unique voice. W.I.R.F. is poised to be equally as successful as Hello Sunshine, an entertainment startup created by Reese Witherspoon for women. Hello Sunshine sold to Blackstone Group for $900 million. Imagine what a gem W.I.R.F. will be to the City of South Fulton when the untapped talent of Black women is able to thrive without restriction. Imagine the impact of the opportunity W.I.R.F. poses to content creators when they are able to monetize their creativity versus having it stolen by someone else. We are truly in good hands with Gilbert at the realm; her experiences, passion, and drive are things we can all admire. Tune in: WIRFMedia.com/SheSpeaksLive (April- podcast will feature LGBTQIA and Sexual Assault.) Partner with the foundation: FromTheBottomUpFoundation.org Follow: @NicciGilbert on Instagram

GOAL SETTING BASICS! ARTICLE BY ERIC WIMBUSH
Clients frequently ask, “How do I set goals and are they realistic and achievable?” That question is complicated and specific to each client or household. Goal setting is the process of determining what future outcomes an individual wants to achieve. It is a function of many things, including existing resources (resources = assets), future resources, current income, future income, household structure, timeline, and many other factors. Seraphim Wealth Advisors (SWAI) likes to approach the goal-setting process from both a bottom-up and back-to-front perspective. Taking the bottom-up and back-to-front approach means we simultaneously look at the current financial state of a household and combine it with desired outcomes that the client seeks in the future. Goals can be buying a first house, planning for a child’s education, retirement, or anything that the client deems critical. Identifying resources (both existing and future) is a critical component of the process as it allows our firm to help the client be realistic about whether their goals are attainable given the client’s specific situation. The critical word in the previous sentence is realistic. Setting goals that are not realistic can be demoralizing for a client. Working, planning, and saving day after day and making little progress toward achieving one’s goals often leads to a feeling of hopelessness and many individuals state that they eventually tune out. SWAI, like most advisory firms, creates a process for clients that allows them to break their goal achievement process into manageable pieces (short, intermediate, and long term) that the client can use to measure progress and use as a barometer for adjustments as needed. The earlier you start, the higher the chance for success! Eric Wimbush, CFA, is available to discuss your goals at ewimbush@seraphimwealth.com or 404.271.0067.

The lack of affordable, available quality childcare in America has driven many women out of the workforce during the course of this pandemic and the ongoing problem has prevented many from going back. Goodr is a company founded on creating solutions and the Goodr Kid’s Club childcare center is another example of that mindset. “We are super excited to be in the position of being able to provide this support for our incredible team,” said Goodr’s Founder and CEO Jasmine Crowe. “As a new mom, I know firsthand how difficult it is to balance work and home life in the best of times, much less during a pandemic. I love that my daughter, Journey, can now join me on days that I work in the office and be in a thriving learning environment.”

Using innovative recycled fabrics and responsible production practices, Palm Modern features modern swimwear silhouettes with a sun-kissed sustainability. Palm Modern launched in February 2022. Remaining true to the exceptional fit and fabrics for which Tommy Bahama Swim is known, Palm Modern is made from an ultrasoft sustainable fabric. Comfort is key in this elevated recycled nylon fabric that has an effortless four-way stretch that gently compresses the body to create a smooth silhouette. Expertly designed for flexible movement, Palm Modern features classic silhouettes with ultra clean lines, flattering deeper necklines, a higher leg cut, and elegant curve-friendly seaming. From swimming in the sea to lounging poolside, Palm Modern has a sculptural, sleek aesthetic designed to showcase the natural beauty of the female form. The streamlined collection includes six styles of swim separates and one-piece suits offered in bold, bright colors and a signature print that easily pair together for countless mix and match options. Styles include two tops—a V-neck, tie-back bra top and a halter tankini; two bottoms—a hipster and a wide-band, highwaist style; and two one-piece suits—a deep V-neck and a square neck style with deep cut back. Simple, modern, and ultra-flattering, Palm Modern has an unconstructed, no-fuss attitude. Removable soft tall cups that offer light padding for modesty and shape can be easily taken out for an unlined look, suitable for cup sizes A to DD. Both front and back are fully lined. Rich, vibrant color is another one of Palm Modern’s signature features, ranging from bold magenta, rich cerulean blue, and vivid aqua to classic black and navy. The collection also features an abstract animal print in shades of blue that mixes well with the solids. The Palm Modern collection retails for $110 and under and will be available exclusively on tommybahama.com and at select Tommy Bahama retail stores.
